Darkness Will Prevail - Part Nine
Skyler walks in the direction of the kitchen, guided by her empty and growling stomach. The only thing she can think of is food. She needs it now! She's so very hungry! She didn't even know it was possible to have that much hunger.
She starts seeing flashes in front of her eyes, what if she's going to faint? She can't faint! She's an Avenger. Avengers don't faint because they're hungry.
She halts for a moment and puts her head between her hands until the flashes have disappeared. Quickly she starts walking again and the last few meters towards the fridge, she runs.
Skyler grabs the cold handle of the fridge and with a dramatic swing it opens. But then... Her face drops.
No, no, no!
This can't be happening!
She starts to hyperventilate and her stomach growls in protest. The fridge... It is empty!
How is that even possible?! Jarvis is supposed to make sure the fridge is never ever empty. They always have to make sure there's enough food for all the persons inhabiting the Avengers Tower.
Skyler screams in agony and drops onto the floor. She bumps with her fists on the ground, she's going to die! Because of an empty fridge!
She hears some rushed footsteps behind her.
"It is empty!" Skyler screams to whoever is behind her. "We're all going to die!"
"Skyler? Skyler! Chill. Hakuna Matata?"
Skyler recognizes the voice of Katherine.
"Peanut butter?" she answers unsure, remembering the code they had needed for something, and then she suddenly starts to recall. It's a dream, it's all a dream. It isn't real. She wipes off her tears and takes a deep breath. It isn't real... Her stomach stops growling and the hunger disappears.
Skyler sighs relieved. "For a moment I thought I saw my life flashing before my eyes." She gets back on her feet and turns around towards Katherine who's softly chuckling.
"You're so dramatic." She looks at her watch. "We have, I think, forty-five minutes left before the others are going to confront the dragon in the real world."
They hear someone else entering the kitchen and Skyler casts a glance over Katherine's shoulder. It's Elizabeth, but is she the real one or the projection?
"Hakuna Matata?" Skyler asks her and Elizabeth smiles.
"Peanut butter."
"I must say, I love this code. Can't we use it more often?" Skyler suggests but then she sees Elizabeth is already carrying some weapons. Katherine and Skyler walk towards her and she hands them some weapons. Mostly some guns with ammunition.
"We also should go grab a bow with black arrows," Skyler adds and Elizabeth rolls her eyes.
"If you know how to shoot a bow and arrow, be my guest," Katherine responds.
"No, I don't," Skyler admits and a bit sad they hadn't really thought it had been funny.
"Then killing him with gunfire it is," Elizabeth says and she hangs the M40 rifle on her back.
Skyler bumps the sides of her fists together. "And with my soundwaves. I'm pretty sure he can't stand that."
The charging sound of her device echoes through the room and Katherine and Elizabeth back up.
"Whoa, easy. You don't need to show us now."
"Right, sorry," and she stops the charging sound.
"Let's roll out," Katherine says.
"Copyright!" Skyler yells and Katherine almost facepalms.
"What? There is."
Elizabeth and Katherine both shake their head and start heading towards the entrance of the building. Skyler follows them quickly while not trying to worry too much about what's going to happen. Will they succeed? What if they had made the wrong decisions? What if... She shakes with her head to stop herself from worrying. She can't loose her cool now, after all, this her first real mission. She starts to grin, if they succeed she most definitely will be a full Avenger. She puts on her headphones and blocks everything out while they're heading towards Cynar's lair.

Phoenix screams in frustration and kicks the iron bars in front of him, which only caused him to have a sore foot. He doesn't know how long it had been since the two strangers had shown up but he's sure it has been over a few hours. What if they wouldn't return? What if it already was too late and Cynar had move on to the next continent? What if Earth had already almost fallen?
He yells one last time and then cuts himself off. He plops down on the ground and leans with his elbows on his knees, sitting crosslegged. They had to come back! It couldn't be too late yet. It just couldn't.
His head shoots up when he hears footsteps. He listens very carefully and till his relieve, there are multiple footsteps. It isn't his brother! He jumps back on his feet and laughs when the door swings open and three silhouettes run inside.
Wait, three?
His laugh fades away, there had been only two, right?
"Phoenix," one of them says and he notices it is the same voice of one of the two strangers from before. They're back.
"Yes?" he answers, although it hadn't really been a question.
Katherine, at least he thinks it is Katherine, spurts away towards a bench standing against the wall and lifts it up.
"We're going to get you out of here," Elizabeth continues and she steps into the little light of the room. She's smiling and Phoenix smirks. That's all he ever wanted to hear.
Katherine puts the wooden bench against the prison door and she's about to use it as a leverage but then the third person jumps in.
"Wait," she tells Katherine and Phoenix frowns. Katherine stops and looks back over her shoulder with a slightly raised eyebrow.
The third person walks towards the prison and Phoenix sees it is a young girl. She has long wavy brown hair and blue eyes, he can't help to be a bit mesmerized by her thoughtful gaze.
"What is it?" Katherine asks her.
"I want to know if we can trust him," she responds.
"Smart girl," Phoenix says. After all, the other two just had given him the benefit of the doubt, they hadn't even question him but she just did.
"If we can get you out of here," the girl continues and longing the word 'if'. "You won't try to hurt us or to stop us?"
"Of course not. I'm going to help you."
She's a bit suprised by this and Elizabeth chuckles. "I told you he could help us."
"You know a way to kill Cynar?" she asks him, ignoring Elizabeth's remark.
Phoenix smirks again. "I'm the only one who can."
She raises an eyebrow. "You can kill a dragon by yourself?"
For a moment he's confused but then he remembered they had only seen his brother in his dragon form.
"He's not just a dragon. He is a Dreamwalker and thus a shapeshifter."
"How do you know so much about him?" she questions him and Phoenix hopes they're all in for a suprise.
"Because I'm his brother."
