WHEN THE WAR CAME AROUND, everyone was terrified. But everyone fought with all their might.
Sometime during the war, Remus had run to Maggie quickly. They were both filthy and had a few battle scars, though she did have more being there longer than him and going through the unforgivable mission to find the Horcruxes. She had to be tortured by a death eater before she got to her wand and cursed him to sudden death. She was exhausted, barely holding herself up with only her deep breaths.
"Dad!" She shouted in surprise, happy to see him okay but in concern. Remus wrapped his arms around her scared figure and held her tighter than ever. He could tell her anxiety had never been higher by the way she was on the verge of a panic attack but because of the chaos happening all at once, her mind has been everywhere. He almost felt tears about to prickle his eyes, looking at his hurt daughter and what he had to do soon. He cupped her cheeks, wiping some dirt off her face.
"I love you" She looked at him confused but smiled nonetheless.
"I love you too, Dad" She whispered, her lips quivering.
"We're going to win, I promise." She nodded before she saw the look he had and grew more worried.
"Dad-"
"Darling... Promise me something" She quickly nods with a serious look, burning her blue eyes into his brown ones.
"Take care of Teddy." Her face looked at him in horror and she shook her head vigorously with a gulp.
"You'll be there, right? With Tonks, all of us together as a family-" He stroked her cheek and pulled her to his chest as she wrapped her arms around his neck tightly.
She was there when Sirius died. And it broke her. She froze and covered her mouth in horror and tears ran down her cheeks as the death eaters all disappeared. It was like everything was in slow motion as she saw Harry break down in Remus's arms.
She and Harry held each other for days after he died.
She felt like right now she was gonna lose another important person in her life and she wasn't ready for that at all. She couldn't lose her father.
"Dad -please," She whispers as he pulls away, kissing her forehead.
"I love you darling - I'll be with you forever, I promise... And promise me... If something happens, you take care of your little brother and Harry takes care of you - or else I'll haunt him" She chuckles with a small sob before he places his forehead on hers.
"Darling..." He whispers and that one word hit her like a thousand bricks. It felt like an I love you and goodbye... She let her hands fall to her sides and watched as he slowly walked away. Never looking back or else he'd never be able to leave her side again.
"Dad..." She couldn't but whisper, her heart shattering into little pieces. But she continues to fight with everything she has.
For it all to work out. For them all to come out of this alive...
Harry didn't tell anyone he faked his death.
"You can't give yourself up to him," Ron says as Harry slowly walks down the demolished steps of the castle.
"Harry..." Magnolia whispers, not knowing what to say other than - "Don't do this" but she knows she can't. He stops walking.
"What is it, Harry? What else do you know?" Hermione asks as Maggie walks behind her and he turns to them.
"There's a reason I can hear them. The Horcruxes..." Harry starts, running a hand through his messy brown curls while Maggie feels another sob but keeps it in. "I think I've known for a while... And I think you know too"
"I'll go with you-" Maggie quickly tries to say as Hermione places her hand on her arm.
"No, kill the snake. Kill the snake and it's just him" Hermione quickly steps forward inviting Harry in a hug. Ron stands beside Magnolia, wrapping an arm around her as she begins to cry.
They pull away and with a last glance he begins to walk away but as he gets to the bottom, Magnolia stops him. She runs down to him and crashes into his arms as he pulls her against him tighter. He takes a deep breath, inhaling her sweet scent with a mix of smoke - about to choke up tears.
"Please... Please, don't do this" She whispers into his neck. He looked up at the ceiling trying to keep tears from falling. But for all of this to work, he didn't wanna say anything to anyone.
"Love..." He kisses her lips slowly and passionately. She melts in his arms, wanting to stay in this position forever. He holds her tightly before pulling away, setting his forehead against hers. They both close their eyes, letting their last moments together sink in.
"I love you" She whispers with a quiver, and he holds her tightly.
"Marry me" She stopped her breath for a second in shock. She furrows her eyebrows and looks up at him in confusion.
"What?" She looks up at him confused and he gives her a small grin.
"Will you marry me, Magnolia Lupin?" Her breath hitches at his words and looks at him surprised.
"Harry, why are you asking me when you're going to-"
"Mags, my love..." She looks up at him with hopeful eyes, searching for something in his green eyes... Something that she's missing...
"Will you marry me?" She smiles in admiration and steps on her tippy toes. She goes to press her lips on his, as he keeps his hands on the waist, arching her back.
"Yes... Of course, Harry... I'll marry you." Magnolia says softly, running her hands through his hair and down behind his neck. Harry stared at her in adoration and leaned into her touch. She had hope. And she feels that having hope is the only thing that's gonna push her to be okay.
"I love you" He mutters a thousand times, making sure not to miss any other part of her face to kiss.
"I love you, my love."
And when they finally found each other at the end of the war in the broken-down Great Hall, their faces flashed in horror.
They clutched onto each other's hands as they walked hurt... some dead bodies. Students - Teachers - Families...
Maggie immediately broke down in tears, seeing all the Weasleys over Fred's deceased body. George and Ron were sobbing, and Harry had to cover his mouth from sobs erupting from his throat.
But at the sight of Remus and Nymphadora lying on their backs on the stone ground, Magnolia lost self-control. She looked at them in horror, collapsing to her knees next to their bodies and immediately breaking down into agonizing tears.
"No- no-no- NO!" She sobbed, clutching onto his shirt, sobbing into Remus's chest.
"He told me he wouldn't leave me! HARRY!" She shouted, looking up at him like she was begging for him to do something... Even though they both knew nothing was possible.
"HE PROMISED! H-He promised!" She screamed, thick tears rolling down her cheeks as she wailed. Harry pulled her to his chest as he sobbed silently as she cried...
And cried.
"He promised..." She whispers as she clenches her jaw and squeezes her eyes shut crying.
"I know my love. I know" He whispers holding her, letting his tears fall down his face.
After the war, Hogwarts was immediately built back up for students the following year.
Since then, Harry and Magnolia stayed hip to hip alongside Teddy. Only a few weeks later was the funeral of Fred Weasley, Sirius Black, Remus, and Nymphadora Lupin. They haven't gotten to do a funeral for Sirius, so they decided to do it with Remus. It was very hard for everyone. George gave a speech.
And Harry and Maggie gave a speech.
All their headstones were close by Lily and James. They all were beside each other. It was like they were all together again.
"My father was a great man. A husband - father - friend - professor and role model. He was the bravest and smartest man I knew. He was the only figure I knew for most of my life...
He was the person that helped me during my first period, not a father's dream at all... Pretty dramatic at the time but we got through it although once we got with everyone again, he suggested for me to ask Molly questions" Many chuckled as some let a few tears out.
"He was the person who comforted me during thunderstorms and the dark... He was the person I could talk to anytime. I was with him all the time - he'd even bring up boys in conversations saying stuff like- 'For all I care, you can talk to me about boys if you want' " She smiled looking down a bit and others laughed as she got choked up at the fond memories.
"I remember when I was younger, he'd take me out every Saturday in the village... Though he never liked talking about his pasts, he'd tell me stories of the marauders in Hogwarts and causing absolute havoc - and how much of an amazing woman my mother was..." She looked up to meet Harry's eyes as he gave her a comforting nod.
"When I first showed up at his doorstep, I don't think he expected a baby girl to appear behind that door... And I don't think in a million years Sirius, James, or Lily expected him to have a daughter. He could have left me, or given me away but he didn't. He kept me and raised me - A single father who had no idea how to dress a baby... I just hope I end up like the person he wanted me to be..."
Harry almost choked up at giving his speech about Sirius but stood strong for Maggie. He'd even look at her for encouragement and she'd look at him with the gorgeous smile he loved. But Harry spoke about Fred, Sirius, Remus, and Tonks, proudly too. Told stories about them and crazy wonders, proud to have them in his life.
Many people were there. And only a few attended Snape's funeral. Alongside the other funerals, Draco Malfoy was there too.
Maggie didn't say anything as she went back to put flowers by her father's grave but stopped. Everyone had already left, Harry waiting for her by the huge tapestry farther away with friends and family.
She heard Draco speak to the headstones with tears and apologies. She was about to turn and leave but he stopped her.
"Magnolia?" She turns seeing Draco standing there a few feet away from her with tears brimming his eyes. She looks at him with a tear stains down her cheeks.
"I'm-I'm so sorry" He sobs before she engulfs him in a hug. She held him as he sobbed into her shoulder, hugging her waist and digging his face into her shoulder.
More tears built in her eyes as she had her arms wrapped around his neck.
"I'm sorry!"
"It's okay, it's okay" She assured him, making his grip around her waist tighten.
Draco and Maggie stayed in that position for a while till it began to rain and they pulled apart. He wasn't doing well mentally, feeling like a complete failure, knowing everyone was upset and lost so much. She knew he was gonna need someone there for him.
So on that day, he gained a sister.
~~~
Only a week after that, the Ministry weirdly found out about the engagement between the two and immediately said they'd pay for the whole wedding.
Which ended up being set up in nine months. This caused even more stress on Magnolia as she was the one planning all of it, feeling rushed by the ministry.
And Harry was then busy as he got a position as head of the Auror department.
It angered Harry greatly, finding out the ministry rushed them into a wedding they wanted to wait on. But Maggie only reassured him it's fine and it'll only be family and friends. No public -no unwanted random guests.
Even though they were both very busy, he made time for their dates. Even though one of the dates he suggested one time, she completely was lost in her world.
He had taken her to a muggle aquarium. She was so fascinated by all the sea creatures, her eyes sparkled at every movement. It was like she completely ignored him the whole time and spent the whole time staring at the fish.
If he was honest, it was one of Harry's favorite dates. Because he got to sit back and watch her smile and have fun. He let her drag him around by the hand in pure excitement. At times he followed her around with him slightly holding on to her sweater from behind.
That's when he knew he made the right decision to marry her.
It was because every day, he just fell deeper and deeper in love with her.
