⤷ 02| DEMENTOR

chapter two : dementor

☆ ☆ ☆

As soon as Juniper boarded the Hogwarts Express, she made her way over towards the Prefect compartment. She was not surprised to see Cedric Diggory already sitting there.

"Diggory," she greeted the boy with a cheeky smile, "fancy seeing you here."

The brown haired boy's head snapped up and he smiled warmly. "Black, did not expect you to be here."

"And yet, here I am," June said, sitting down next to the Hufflepuff. "I'm sure your life just got better," she added, giving him a wink.

Cedric rolled his eyes. "Yes, because without you, my life'd be boring."

"I'm glad you know it."

Their conversation was interrupted as the other Prefects came in closely followed by Percy Weasley and Penelope Clearwater, the Head Boy and Girl. The former's eyes widened once they found Juniper Black sitting in the compartment.

"June! Why didn't you tell me you're a Prefect?" he exclaimed. "Blimey, I'm happy you finally decided to grow up."

"Thanks Perce," June replied sarcastically. "I appreciate it."

Percy ignored her comment as he and Penelope started to explain what would be expected from them.

Once the briefing was over, June stood up and started making her way towards the compartment where her friends would be. On her way over, she noticed Draco Malfoy standing inside the compartment of her cousin. Deciding she might as well use her Prefect status, she opened the compartment door, making everyone look at her.

"Is he bothering you?" Juniper said, glancing at Draco. She knew he and Harry didn't particularly got along.

"Yes," Ron replied, "he insulted my family."

"Is that so?" June said, glaring at Draco. "Well, Mr Malfoy, I suggest you leave this compartment before I have to deduct points from Slytherin. It wouldn't be so good to start the school year below zero now would it?"

"You can't deduct points," Draco sneered.

With a smirk, June pushed her robe to the side, showing her prefect badge, making Draco pale and Hermione gasp.

"You were saying?"

Draco gave her one last look before dashing out of the compartment.

"I like being a Prefect," June replied, putting her robe back over her badge. "It comes in rather handy."

"You're a prefect!" Hermione squealed. "Congratulations!"

Juniper smiled at the bushy haired girl. "Thank you, Hermione, I'm sure that when you enter your fifth year, you'll be a Prefect, too."

"I hope so," she sighed and it wasn't until now that June noticed a wizard sleeping in the corner.

"That's R. J. Lupin," Ron stated, rather proudly.

"I know that," June replied, she had recognized Remus the moment her eyes settled onto him. "Anyways, I'm off to Fred and George, I'll see you at Hogwarts."

With a last wave, Juniper walked back outside, closing the door behind her and walked towards the back of the train. Finally, she noticed the Gryffindor Quidditch Team and she opened the compartment.

"Hey, guys, sorry I'm late."

Angelina, Katie and Alicia gave her each a hug before June ruffled the twins' hair and eventually sat down next to Oliver.

No one spoke up as they all looked at the black haired girl.

"What?" June spoke up, taking a bite of a bar of chocolate.

"Are you going to tell us where you were?" Angelina asked, sounding rather curious.

"Oh, that," Juniper replied, sounding not too thrilled.

"Yes, that," Fred repeated.

"I was in the prefect compartment," the black haired replied, shrugging as if it wasn't that big of a deal.

"Why are you in the prefect compartment?" the twins asked synchronically as Angelina, Katie and Alicia exclaimed, "Are you a prefect?"

"Nah, she can't be," Fred said.

Oliver, however, had seen the badge that was hidden underneath her robes. He smiled, not really surprised about that. She was the top of her year after all.

"And yet she is," June replied, pushing her robe to the side and showing everyone her badge.

Fred and George gasped while Angelina, Katie and Alice laughed.

"I can't believe it!" George exclaimed, holding a hand onto his heart. "And you didn't tell us?"

"Surprise!" June exclaimed.

The twins rolled their eyes, while the dark haired looked at Oliver. "You need help with plays?"

That did it. For almost half an hour, Oliver explained her one of the plays. It wasn't until the train started slowing down, that he stopped.

June took a glance at her watch. "We aren't suppose to be there yet."

"Than why are we slowing down?" Angelina asked and Katie looked out of the window.

"I can see someone enter the train," she reported and Juniper frowned. Why would someone enter the train now?

Suddenly, the lights went off, making June shuffle on her seat nervously. As the door of her compartment, she snatched her wand from her pocket.

"Lumos!"

The compartment was filled with the light that emitted from the point of her wand. Juniper narrowed her eyes as she saw her other cousin standing in their compartment.

"Draco," she said, "what in Merlin's name are you doing here?"

The blond haired boy didn't reply as he closed the door behind him. He maneuvered himself so that June stood between him and the door.

"Draco!" Juniper spat. "Talk!"

His eyes widened in fear as he looked past her. The black haired turned around, her wand in her hand. There, after the compartment door stood a Dementor. June had heard of them from Tonks, who had visited Azkaban in her Auror training, and she knew they weren't friendly creatures.

The air around them had frozen; June's breath caught and solidified in her chest. She held as if she could never be happy again.

A squeal was heard from behind her and the Dementor started moving further towards the front of the train. June turned around to see Draco hiding behind the twins, who were looking at him in disgust.

The lights went back on and June's eyes widened at the thought of Harry and the Dementor. She turned around and dashed out of the compartment. She ran through the hallway, straight into Remus Lupin who had just exited the compartment.

☆ ☆ ☆

Remus Lupin had just exited the compartment when a black haired girl ran into him. He managed to hold both himself and the girl steady and as she looked up at him, he gasped.

It had been twelve years ago that those eyes had stared at him and he couldn't look away.

Of course he knew who she was, he had known the second she walked in the compartment earlier on. And yet, it had only been now that he noticed the familiar set of eyes.

"Hello Remus," June spoke up and Remus' heart ached as he noticed that her voice sounded just like her mother.

"So you do remember me?" Remus said softly, letting go of her.

"Of course I do," Juniper replied, gazing up at him, and the brown haired wizard wondered if she remembered her uncle too. "And I do remember him, too," she added, more quietly.

"How did you know what I was thinking?" Remus asked, rather amused.

June shrugged. "It was written all over your face. You have the same expression as I have when someone mentions him or you think about him."

For a moment, neither of the two spoke. Remus eyed the girl he hadn't seen for twelve years and his eyes fell on the prefect badge that hung onto her robes. His lips curled into a smile.

"I see you're a Prefect."

June looked down and saw that her badge was uncovered, she quickly pulled her robes back over it before looking back up.

"Yeah."

"You know, your father was a Prefect, too," Remus told her and her eyes lit up.

"He was?"

"Yes, as was I and Harry's mum."

June smiled widely and Remus noticed that she had James' smile.

"June!" Hermione exclaimed, gesturing for the black haired girl to enter their compartment.

June gave Remus a last smile before entering the compartment. Both Hermione and Ron were looking at Harry in worry.

"What happened?" the black haired asking, her eyes darting to Harry, who looked rather pale. "Are you alright, Harry?"

Her cousin nodded and she exchanged a glance with Hermione.

"A Dementor came in and Harry fainted," she quickly explained, making June frown.

Why were they here in the first place?

Her eyes fell on the piece of chocolate and she nodded in approval. "You should eat it, it helps."

Slowly, Harry raised his arm and bit a piece of chocolate off. Juniper turned around, checked the hallway before closing the door.

"What in Merlin's beard are they doing here?" Juniper muttered. Of course the answer was clear; Sirius Black, her uncle. "Shit."

The black haired turned around and faced the trio. "You should be careful, Dementors are no soft creatures."

Juniper pulled Hermione closer. "Keep an eye on him, please." Her hazel eyes darted to Harry. "I'm worried."

Hermione nodded solemnly and June let her go before sitting next to Harry. In no way she was going to leave him alone. Her hazel eyes darted towards her cousin, to the window and back.

Dementors at Hogwarts? Dumbeldore must've lost it.
