"What were you doing?" Manik asked as soon as I picked up his call.

"I was dancing," I replied sarcastically.

"Why are you saying like this, Nandini?" Manik asked as if he is really hurt. But in real he is used to all this.

"Then how should I say? You are calling me at the middle of night and on top of that you are asking what I am doing? Seriously?" this time I replied angrily.

"I was busy whole day. So did not get a chance to talk to you. I came back home now only. If I had not talked to you, then I would not have slept peacefully," again he is back with his cheekiness.

"Is it that important to talk to me? Why will you have to talk to me" I asked helplessly.

"Of course it's important. I don't feel good, my day doesn't go well, if I don't talk to you," Manik said.

"Why?" I asked helplessly even though I knew the answer.

"Because I love you," he confessed once again.

"Manik, I am not at all interested in hearing all this nonsense crap at 1 am of night," I said once again irritatingly.

"It's not crap, Nandini. It's the reality. I really love you," he never loses his hope no matter how many times I reject him.

"It's very late. Let me sleep, you also sleep," without giving him a chance to speak more I cut the call.

Manik is Naira's (Nandini's sister) brother-in-law. Manik and Nandini were really close as they were in the same college. Manik was two years elder than Nandini. But from the time Manik has proposed her, she tries to avoid him. But he never stops trying on her.

Next day
Nandini, Mukti, Navya and Alya were sitting in the canteen as they have break now.

Navya (asked cheekily): Nandini, how's your days going?

Mukti (in a teasing tone): Her days are obviously going well. After all Manik Malhotra is head over heel in love with her.

Alya (dreamily): Whole college is after him and he is after you. So lucky you are!!!

Navya (total fan girl): Yessssh, he is the hero of our college. He is ready to do anything for you. So sweet of him.

Nandini (angrily shouted): Will you guys please shut up??? There he is saying all the crap at mid night and here you guys again started in the morning. I am fed up with all this.

Alya (trying to pacify her): Then why don't you just accept that you love him?

Mukti (in a matter of fact tone): How can someone not love someone like Manik???

Nandini (sarcastically): If you like him so much, then why don't you just go and propose him? He may accept you.

Alya: If she will go to Manik, then what will happen to Zubin?

Navya: Right!!! Keep your Romeo to yourself. We are happy with ours.

Like this their life was going.....

But one day Manik was crossing Nandini's college when he saw her talking to a boy happily and laughing also. He got really angry as well as hurt too seeing her with someone else. He didn't say her anything there. He just left.

At night Manik called Nandini and didn't even greet her properly like other days.

M (sternly): Who was the boy?

N (confused): Which boy?

M (gritting his teeth): That one with whom you were talking and laughing in front of college.

Jealousy can be clearly seen in his voice.

N (then realized whom Manik was talking about): Oh... He is Aryaman. My school friend.

M: Why were you laughing with him so much? Why is he so close to you?

Nandini's mood was really off that night. So, instead of talking to Manik calmly, she shouted on him.

N (angrily): Enough Manik. If I am close to anyone, that's none of your business. You are no one to boss around me. You can't decide for me who will be close to me and who will not.

It's my life and I can do whatever I want to. Don't try to teach me or try to control my life. You are just my sister's brother-in-law. Nothing else. Keep that in mind and for God's sake stop irritating me. Leave me alone.

Manik was really shocked as well as hurt with her behaviour. He never thought that Nandini would be so much irritated by him. He was sure that she has a soft corner for him but just not ready to accept it. But today all his hope died.

M: Sorry, Nandini, I didn't know I have irritated you so much. But don't worry from now on I won't disturb you anymore.

Saying this Manik cut the call. Then Nandini realized what blunder she has done.She was not intended to hurt him but she did.

Nandini tried to call Manik after that but neither did he pick up her call nor he replied to her messages.

Now it's been a month since Manik has stopped contacting with Nandini. Nandini has also lost her chirpiness. She has stopped talking to others unnecessarily or coming out of her room. It was like she has lost herself with that phone call only.

Naira came to visit them with her daughter Kaira. Nandini and Naira are very close to each other. But this time Nandini not for once tried to talk to her by herself.

Naira noticed that. She thought to talk to Nandini. One night after making Kaira sleep in her room, she came to Nandini's room.

She knocked Nandini's room door. Nandini looked at her.

Nandini: Di, from when you started knocking on my door?

Naira: I thought to knock because I can see I lot of things have changed. What has happened to you?

Nandini (not meeting her gaze): Nothing happened. By the way Kartik jiju didn't come?

Naira: You are changing the topic, Nandini. From when did you start lying to me or hiding things from me?

Nandini (fidgeting with her fingers): It's not like that. Manik also has not called me since a month.

Naira (smirked): Ohh... It's the matter. There he is also sitting like DEVDAS. It's the reason I can understand now.

Nandini (whined): Diiiii...

Naira: Is my Majnu brother-in-law that bad?

Nandini: How did this come in between? It's not like the way you are thinking......

Naira: Are you missing him? Or you are feeling hurt that he is avoiding you?

Nandini: It's not like that. It's just he is my friend and I will feel bad right, if he stops talking to me.

Naira: Okay. I agree. But ask yourself if any of your other friends stop talking to you, will you miss them like this?

Naira left from there and Nandini started thinking is she really in love with Manik? She was in deep thought.

Is he that much special?

Won't she really miss someone just the way she is missing Manik???

All these thoughts were roaming in her mind. While thinking all this she slept.

Next day Naira and Kaira also left.

After a few days, Kartik called her...

K (dramatically): What's this, Nandu? Have you forgotten me or what? You don't call me anymore. I am your one and only jeeja ji...

N: It's nothing like that. I was too much occupied with my studies and other things that I didn't get a chance to talk to you.

K: Ohhh...

N: Why didn't you come with di and Kaira?

K: Don't ask... I was busy with Manik's visa and all that, I couldn't manage to go.

N (confused): Visa for what? Is Manik going somewhere?

K (surprised): Arreh nobody told you? Manik is leaving for London. He will leave in a day or two. He will be settling there only.

N (shocked): Ohh... Jiju I have some work. I will talk to you later.

K: Okay... Bye.

N: Bye......

Nandini was feeling restless hearing that Manik is going away...

Nandini's pov
Manik is going to London. He not for once told me anything. How could he?

I didn't talk to him just for a month and I am feeling so restless. How will I live without him for so long?

But why I am feeling like this hearing about his departure?

Am I really in love with Manik???

Were everyone right about my feelings???

That whole Nandini could not sleep. All these thoughts had occupied her mind.

She just knew she can't loose Manik at any cost.
