𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐲: 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫
That day thirteen years ago still is very vivid in my mind. That one day would change my life forever.
It was very early in the morning. I remember the sun was just coming up. I could see the yellowish-orange tint barely above the ground. The birds were flowing so easily through the air, and then when they landed they would chirp so easily.
I had decided to go for a walk. I lived in the country where you could have all the freedom in the world. I walked behind my house a way, and I walked ever so slowly. I just wanted to relax, and enjoy the fresh air and the singing of the birds.
I walked into the woods where it was the darkest, and I just kept walking. You could hear the leaves blowing in the wind. It was beginning to be fall so the leaves were turning colors. Everywhere you looked you could see red, brown, yellow, gold, and green. Everytime I took a step the twigs would snap under my weight.
I continued to walk, and after a while I got tired. I wasn't to the point of the exhaustion, I was just tired. I saw a stump that was beginning to rot, and I sat down on it. The stump had some fungi growing on it, and so I picked up a twig and started to scrape the fungi off. I finally got it all scraped off, and so I just sat there and looked around. I looked up, and you could see the clear blue sky through the tops of the trees. It was going to be a beautiful autumn day.
I must have been sitting there only thirty minutes when I heard some twigs snapping. It sounded like somebody was walking very slowly through the woods. My first thought was to get up and run, but I figured I had just as much right in these woods, so I stayed put on the stump.
In a split second a man with a mask over his head jumped out at me. The mask was a forest green color. The man had on a tan leather jacket and blue jeans. He had on blue and white tennis shoes that were worn. They had holes in the toes.
I jumped up. I was too scared to stay there any longer. Of course it was too late by the time I had decided to get up. The man had a hold of my arm before I knew it. His fingernails dug into my skin. It felt like sharp needles being stuck into my arm.
I stopped and turned around. I reached out with my other hand to grab for that ugly mask. I had just grabbed a hold of it when he grabbed my wrist. His right hand had a glove on it so he couldn't dig his fingernails into my skin. The glove was worn so it didn't look the best.
Then he drug me over to this tree. He threw me on the ground and let me sit there for a few seconds while he got pieces of rope out of his pocket. I knew I had a chance to get away but knowing me I would have ended up getting myself into worse trouble. I figured if I would just do what he wanted then I might live to see tomorrow.
He tied my hands together in front of me. Then he tied my ankles together. The rope burned my skin each time he pulled it tighter. Then he put a gag in my mouth.
I figured he would hurt me but instead he stood silently next to the tree. He didn't move, and you could barely see him breathing. He was almost like the tree. He just stood there.
I must have sit there for about an hour. In actuality it seemed like days. The man did nothing to me so I had no reason as of yet for doing anything to him.
Then all of a sudden I heard twigs snapping. It was great. Someone was coming to rescue me. It felt like a lost kid in a shopping mall when his mother found him. I could think nothing but relief.
Then as quickly as it looked good for my rescue it was over. The man said some curse words and then told me he was going to fix my little red wagon.
He stood right in front of me and told me I would never be able to identify him because they would never believe a blind person.
The next thing I knew he had a pocket knife, cutting my eyes. My eyes burnt like crazy, and the pain was tremendous. It was worse than anything you could imagine.
Then I just sat there, and the man left. He left as fast as he came. Then I felt of my eyes. I could feel the blood. I could no longer see the blood.
Some people found me after about an hour had passed. They were surprised to see me. I guess I was found on accident. I was to later find out they were hunters.
The men took me to the hospital where I stayed for weeks. I had to be rehabilitated to live with the blindness.
The man was right when he told me ever so bluntly they would never believe a blind person. To this day I still have a lot of anger for this man. He's the one who changed my perfect world to nothingness.
