Third person p.o.v-
After a quick freshening up, you made your way downstairs, slipping into your casual attire for the day. Settling onto the cozy sofa in the living room, you retrieved the phone that your new parents had kindly gifted you. You denied taking it because you didn't feel right taking a gift from them but you accepted it after they insisted so much. Opening Google you began to search for any news of car accidents from this month in the hope of finding out what might've happened to your body.
You scrolled through countless articles and reports, but there was nothing. Not a single accident was mentioned this month. Confusion mingled with disbelief. How could such a significant event slip through the cracks of media coverage?
''How can it be possible'' you mumbled.
''Jin Ae?... child?.. Jin Ae?...Jin Ae?... JIN AE...'' Suddenly someone shook your shoulder.
Startled, you glanced up to find David standing over you, his hand resting gently on your shoulder. ''What happened, Uncl... I mean, Father?'' You corrected yourself quickly, realizing the slip.
''I've been calling you for five minutes. Where was your attention, child?'' he asked, settling onto the sofa beside you.
"Oh, that..." You bit your lip, unsure of how to respond. "Oh, Y/N, you have to get used to this name. Nobody is going to call you Y/N now," you whined in your mind.
"Okay, forget it. Actually, I'm here to inform you that the son of one of my business partners is coming for an urgent meeting. Since his father is not in Korea, he's handling his work. I want you to attend the meeting with us."
"Why do you want me to attend the meeting with you guys?" you asked, clearly confused.
"Because you were very good at handling business before your accident. Obviously, you don't remember this now. So, I want you to join us. Maybe it could help you with your memory," he said, smiling, though hurt was visible in his eyes, which didn't go unnoticed by you. You nodded in agreement, not wanting to upset him further, as he lovingly patted your head.
The sudden blare of a car horn shattered the tranquility of the moment, prompting David to rise from his seat. "I think they're here," he announced, as he made his way towards the exit, beckoning you to follow. With curiosity quickening your steps, you trailed behind him.
As you emerged from the grandeur of the mansion, your eyes were met with the sight of a formidable array of black cars, lined up in military precision. From each vehicle, a retinue of guards emerged, their presence adding an aura of solemnity to the scene.
"Who needs this many guards?" you pondered, your voice laced with skepticism and a hint of amusement. "Is he a businessman or the head of a mafia syndicate?" The absurdity of the situation wasn't lost on you as you rolled your eyes.
"Even big-shot businessmen have their share of rivals, you know? That's why it's crucial for them to have a bunch of guards around, especially when they're at the top of the game," David explained, sensing your confusion. As you nodded in understanding, he added, "It's like a shield against any potential trouble in the cutthroat world of business."
ย The final car's door swung open, revealing a figure cloaked in black, flanked by two companions. With measured steps, David approached the enigmatic man, and you followed him, curiosity piqued.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. Jeon," David greeted, extending his hand in a gesture of goodwill, which the man reciprocated with a firm handshake.
A nagging sense of familiarity tugged at the corners of your mind as you observed Mr. Jeon. "Why do I feel like I've seen him before?" you mused silently,
"Jin Ae, you might not remember him, but he knows you," David explained gently, motioning towards the man.
When you glanced at the man, you couldn't help but flinch as you noticed him staring at you intently. His dark eyes seemed to bore into yours, making you feel a bit uneasy, like he could see right through you. But what David said next make your world turn upside down.
''Meet Mr. Jeon, owner of Jeon Enterprise and son of Jeon Jason..... Jeon Jungkook''
"Jeon Jungkook son of Jeon Jason," the name flashed in your mind like a sudden spark of recognition. Your eyes widened. The understanding dawned upon you, clarifying the source of your earlier familiarity.
The realization brought with it a mix of emotions, causing your breath to hitch and your hands to tremble slightly as you looked at Jungkook with wide eyes. You know this person, hell you used to know him so well. But you felt sudden rage as time seemed to fold upon itself as flashes of shared moments flooded your mind.
Flashback-
ย A six-year-old you stood outside of your house with some of your neighbors while the police were inside. Soon, you saw the police emerge from the house, handcuffing your father. Behind them, paramedics followed, wheeling a stretcher with a body covered head to toe in a white sheet. You weren't a fool; you understood that the dead body was your mother's.
"Eomma!" you cried and ran towards your mother, but a cop held you back before you could reach her. The dead body was in very bad condition and it could traumatize you further, especially considering the trauma you had already experienced from the events of the previous night.
''LEAVE ME, LET ME GO...SHE IS MY MOTHER...LET ME GO''ย you cried and struggled to break free as you watched the paramedics take your mother away but the cop didn't let you get out of the hold.ย
''NO PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY MOTHER AWAY.. PLEASE.'' Falling to your knees, you sobbed uncontrollably as the ambulance drove off with her, and the police escorted your father away.
"Oh my holy Jesus, that's so tragic, she lost her mother and father in one night," one neighbor remarked.
"Really, the poor thing. How is she going to survive in this world?" another neighbor added sympathetically.
"She doesn't have any relatives either, you know. She is practically an orphan now," the third neighbor said, expressing concern for your situation.
Feeling overwhelmed, you couldn't bear to stay any longer and fled from the scene. All you craved in that moment was solace, someone to reassure you that you weren't facing this alone. But with your mother already taken away in the ambulance, the ache of not being able to see her intensified. All you yearned for was a comforting presence, a shoulder to lean on, and there was only one name that echoed in your mind: Your Kookie.
Arriving in front of his house, you stood at the front door of his small home and banged on it. 'KOOKIE!' you shouted, but got no response. Without realizing it, you continued banging on the door, unaware that it was locked from outside.
Soon, exhaustion set in, and you sat back, facing the door. 'Kookie, where are you? I'm scared. I need you,' you cried, curling into a ball of despair. You stayed there until sunset, hoping that maybe he had gone outside for some work with his mother and would eventually return. But he didn't, sadly.
As twilight cast its gentle hues, a neighbor sought you out and found you lingering there. Despite his insistence to accompany him, you staunchly refused.
"No, I won't leave. My friend will be here soon. I can't leave until I've seen him," your resolve echoed in the evening air.
The neighbor, now revealed to be an officer, pressed further, "Does your friend reside in this house?" With a nod, you confirmed, only to be met with a revelation that shattered your hopes. "Your friend won't return, kid. They departed yesterday, now dwelling elsewhere."
''Where he lives now''
''Nobody knows where he lives now his family didn't tell anyone about their new place''
A wave of disbelief washed over you, breath catching in your throat. "You're lying," you whispered, weariness seeping into your words. But the officer's solemn demeanor brooked no argument.ย
"I'm speaking the truth. Now, come with me. There are rituals to be performed for your mother's funeral," he gently urged, reaching out to guide you. You took a last glance at the house. With a heavy heart and a sense of loss settling in, you yielded to his touch, allowing yourself to be led away toward the somber duty awaiting you.
After your mother's funeral, you found yourself alone, sent to an orphanage with no relatives to turn to. Despite the change in scenery, you clung to the hope that your friend would eventually find you, as you were eager to share your sorrows with him. But as time stretched on, his absence became a painful reality.
For five long years, you waited in vain, visiting his old home countless times only to find it locked and empty. The realization slowly dawned on you that he had abandoned you, without even saying a goodbye.ย
He had abandoned you when you needed him most.ย
He never made the effort to visit or reach out, leaving you to face your struggles alone.
With each passing day, your hope turned to resentment. The longing for his presence morphed into bitter disdain. Friendship became tainted in your eyes, and you recoiled from forming connections, convinced that everyone would eventually leave you behind.
The once-warm memories of companionship now twisted into reminders of betrayal. As you let go of the futile hope and embraced the bitterness within, you vowed to never again trust in the fleeting nature of human bonds.ย ย ย ย ย ย
As a result, you became wary of forming any kind of attachment, even in relationships. When you reached the age of eighteen, you bid farewell to the orphanage and embarked on a journey of self-reliance. Taking on numerous part-time jobs, you persevered, determined to carve out a future for yourself.
Despite the odds stacked against you, you managed to secure admission to a prestigious nursing program. With sheer determination and hard work, you navigated through the challenges of academia and emerged victorious, earning your nursing degree.
Upon graduation, you secured a position as a nurse, fulfilling a lifelong dream despite the obstacles you faced.
Flashback end-
Your hands trembled uncontrollably as a surge of emotions swept over you. Anger, resentment, and a profound sense of betrayal intertwined as you beheld the figure before you. This wasn't just anyone; it was the person you had waited for tirelessly over five long years. The individual who, through their absence, had seeded within you a bitter aversion to friendship. The one you once longed to reunite with, now elicited a storm of hatred within you.
Because Jeon Jungkook was none other
''BUT YOUR KOOKIE''
