chapter 31

Hello, my lovely readers! I apologize for the delay—things have been tough lately. I've noticed the votes decreasing, which is a bit discouraging. If you're enjoying the story, please remember to hit the star button; it really keeps me motivated. I'm aiming to finish the book by the end of September, but I'll need your support for regular updates.

This chapter might feel a bit off since I wrote it when I wasn't feeling well, but I didn't want to keep you waiting any longer.

Third person p.o.v-

You stared at Hana in pure shock, as you heard her words. After enduring the shock of your life and seeing your own grave in the cemetery, you had come to Han's mansion seeking solace, only to be met with this unimaginable revelation.

"How can you ask me to live in a stranger's house?" you said, your voice trembling with frustration and disbelief. "I don't even know him well."

Jungkook rolled his tongue in his mouth as he absorbed your words, his jaw set tight with restrained emotion. His fists, buried deep in the luxurious fabric of his trousers, tightened until his knuckles turned a ghostly white. The veins in his hands protruded sharply, a visible testament to the storm of emotions roiling beneath his calm exterior. His eyes, dark and intense, were slightly downcast, staring at nothing, as if lost in a silent battle of wills.

"I know this is sudden, and we should have informed you earlier," Hana began, her voice tinged with urgency. She cast a brief, seeking glance at Jungkook before returning her focus to you. "We secured this deal just this morning, thanks to Mr. Jeon," she continued, her tone a mix of excitement and apprehension. "It requires immediate action. We were concerned about you and Soojin, so Mr. Jeon graciously stepped in to handle it. We couldn't refuse his assistance."

"Oh." You raised your eyebrows. It didn't take long to realize that David getting this deal wasn't just a coincidence.

"He did this on purpose," you thought, as a surge of annoyance shot through you.

"But..." you tried to reason, but your words were cut off by David's voice.

"Darling, please, it's not like you'll be alone there," David said, stepping forward. His voice was calm and reassuring.

He took your hands in his, his eyes filled with sincerity. "There's no need to be scared. Mr. Jeon may be a stranger to you, but we've known him since ages. We're your parents, and we care about you more than anyone. That's why we accepted Jungkook's offer—he's the most trustworthy person I know."

"Trustworthy... huh... ?" You chuckled sarcastically, your voice barely a whisper, as you found David's words completely senseless.

David's voice interrupted your thoughts "This deal isn't just any transaction—it's worth millions and stands as a pivotal moment for both Han and Jeon Enterprises. We're not talking about a mere market presence; we're looking at an expansion into over 20 countries. This move will propel both companies to unprecedented heights of success. Additionally, living at the Jeon mansion offers a substantial advantage."

"Mr. Jeon is one of the most esteemed businessmen globally," he continued, placing his hands gently on your shoulders. "While residing at the Jeon mansion, you will have the opportunity to assist him with business operations. This experience will enhance your business acumen, which is crucial as you will be taking over Han Enterprises after my retirement, so that's why we want you to go with him. Also, Soojin is going with you, and it's only for 30 days. It's not like you have to stay there forever."

Your gaze drifted to Jungkook. His expression was unreadable as he stared into the void, seemingly indifferent. The arrogant sight of him, so composed and detached, made your blood simmer with anger. If he was playing some kind of twisted game, you were determined not to let him win.

"I. Am. Not. Going. That's final." Your voice was firm, each word deliberately punctuated.

"But, kiddo—" David began, but you silenced him with a sharp look.

"I don't want to discuss this any further," you declared, turning on your heel and heading for the stairs. You brushed past Jungkook without sparing him a single glance. Only when you were halfway up did he finally lift his gaze, watching you retreat with an intensity. You reached your room, closed the door behind you.

"What a dramatic bitch," Soojin muttered under her breath, a smirk curling at the corners of her lips. "Honestly, it would be better if she doesn't come with us. That way, I can have Mr. Jeon all to myself," she mused, crossing her arms over her chest.

"What's gotten into her? She's never acted like this before," Hana voiced her concern, her eyes flickering to Jungkook, who was still staring at your closed door.

"Mom," Soojin stepped forward, her tone shifting to something more persuasive, "if she doesn't want to go, we should respect that. She's adjusting to her surroundings so well now. It would be better for her to stay with her friends, to help her socialize more. Meanwhile, I could stay with Mr. Jeon," she suggested, casting a coy glance at Jungkook, a smile playing on her lips.

"What did you just say?" David asked, his confusion evident. Soojin, realizing her slip, quickly backtracked.

"I—I meant to say I could stay at the mansion and assist Mr. Jeon."

"No," David's voice was firm, leaving no room for argument. "We can't risk her safety again, especially after what happened last time. We almost lost her. Now, I can't trust anyone."

"May I have a word with her?" Jungkook's voice finally broke the silence, his tone utterly devoid of emotion. Soojin's eyes widened in surprise.

"Sure, if you can convince her," David replied with a shrug.

"Is this a dream? He doesn't even speak to anyone properly. There's is no way he is going to convince that bitch," Soojin thought, disbelief flooding through her.

As Jungkook began ascending the stairs, Soojin quickly called out, "Wait, Mr. Jeon..." But her words faltered as Jungkook turned and fixed her with a menacing glare, sharp enough to render her speechless. Without another word, he continued up the stairs toward your room, leaving Soojin standing there, utterly stunned.

You stood in your room, a twinge of guilt gnawing at you for how you'd spoken to Jin Ae's parents. Ever since you woke up, they had been nothing but kind, their warmth a stark contrast to the coldness you felt inside. But circumstances had forced your hand—circumstances created by a certain person you were desperate to avoid.

Sinking onto the bed, you reached for the glass of water on the nightstand and downed it in one swift gulp, hoping to steady your frayed nerves. As you set the glass back down, you closed your eyes, trying to find a moment of peace. But the sweat beading on your forehead seeped into the bandage hidden beneath your hair, adding to your discomfort.

The sudden knock on the door caught you attention.

"Leave me alone, please," you said, not too loudly but loud enough for the person outside to hear, thinking it might be Hana or David. You didn't want to be rude, but then there was another knock. And another. It seemed like the person outside the door had no intention of leaving.

You sighed in frustration. Getting up from the bed, you walked towards the door. As you opened it, your gaze hardened again to the person standing there. You tried to close the door in his face, but he stopped it by holding it open.

You applied more pressure to close it, but he overpowered you and pushed the door open swiftly but making sure not to hurt you in process. Entering the room, he took calculated steps towards you, making you step back a little.

He continued his approach until he was just an inch away, completely invading your personal space. His height loomed over you, making you feel tiny in comparison. Even with your three-inch heels, your head barely reached his chest, emphasizing how much he overshadowed you.

''Damn, he got so tall''

His dark, penetrating eyes bored into yours with an intensity that seemed to peel away the layers of your very soul. The depth of his gaze was like a black hole, drawing you in, compelling you to surrender to his scrutiny. He leaned in, closing the distance between you, his face just an inch from yours. The proximity was overwhelming, his eyes still locked onto yours, unyielding and fervent.

As he leaned closer, the air around you thickened with his presence. The heady scent of his cologne—rich, intoxicating, and undeniably masculine—enveloped you, seeping into your every breath. It was a scent that seemed to wrap around your senses, a dark, alluring aroma that both enticed and ensnared. Your knees felt weak, trembling as though they might give way at any moment under the weight of his forceful aura.

"Where were you?" His voice, a deep, gravelly murmur, reverberated through the charged atmosphere. The sound of it seemed to resonate within your chest, setting your heart racing. As his words settled in the space between you, his breath—infused with a subtle, minty freshness—caressed your face, mingling with the cologne's heady bouquet. The combination was almost hypnotic, sending shivers down your spine as it fanned over your skin, further destabilizing your already wavering composure.

"Definitely not in your house," you managed to say, striving to keep your voice steady as you turned your gaze away, trying to escape the weight of his stare.

His fingers found your chin, their touch both firm and commanding as he tilted your face back toward him. The contact sent a jolt through you, a shiver of electricity that left you acutely aware of every inch of his touch. You were forced to meet his eyes again, which were dark and unyielding, holding you captive with a mesmerizing intensity.

Your heart pounded heavily, each beat reverberating with the intensity of his gaze. His voice, a smooth growl, cut through the charged silence. "I told you to stay put, didn't I?" he said, his words were enough to make your blood simmer.

A defiant smirk curled on your lips, a silent challenge that only served to sharpen his gaze. His eyes narrowed, a flicker of dark amusement. "Like I would obey what you said," you retorted, your voice steady despite the electric tension.

"Interesting," he murmured, the corner of his lips curving into a smirk, a teasing glint flickering in his eyes. But just as quickly as it appeared, the smirk faded, his expression shifting as his gaze locked onto yours, noting the redness that lingered there.

Without warning, he moved his thumb to your left eye, his touch gentle as he caressed the tender skin beneath it. The sensation sent a wave of confusion through you, a soft, unexpected gesture that contrasted with the intensity of his presence.

"Why did you cry?" he asked, his voice a low murmur, as his thumb traced the delicate curve of your right eye, the touch tender yet probing.

"How did he know?" The thought raced through your mind, leaving you stunned. He had noticed something that even Jin Ae's parents had missed, a detail you thought you'd hidden well.

"I... I didn't," you stammered, cursing yourself internally for faltering at the worst possible moment. His eyebrow arched in response, a silent challenge to your feeble attempt at denial.

"You know, you are a terrible  liar" he commanded softly, the words laced with a quiet authority that made your heart skip a beat.

"Even if I did, it's none of your concern," you shot back, trying to pull away from his grasp. But he was quicker, his hand sliding to the back of your neck, holding you in place with a firm yet gentle grip.

"Sweetheart, you are my concern," he muttered, his voice low and intimate as he stared deeply into your eyes. The sound of the endearing word, spoken with such ease from his alluring lips, sent an unexpected flip through your stomach, a flutter that you couldn't quite suppress.

You bit your lip, feeling beads of sweat trickling down your skin, itching and irritating, but you refused to let it show.

"Stop hiding your pain from everyone." Before you could react, Jungkook's hand moved toward your hair, pulling out the hairpins that kept it bound and concealed the bandage. Your hair loosened, cascading over your shoulders and down to your waist, while the sweat-soaked bandage made contact with fresh air, giving you a slight relief.

He leaned in closer, his eyes locking with yours. "Because I ain't everyone."

His gaze darkened as he noticed the state of the bandage, now visible beneath your loosened hair. Without a word, toward the drawers. When he returned, he held a first aid kit in his hand. Taking your hand in his, he gently guided you to sit on the edge of the bed, his touch firm yet careful.

Confused, you instinctively tried to stand, but his hand was quick to stop you, his grip tightening just enough to hold you in place. "Stay still," he commanded, his voice leaving no room for argument. The authority in his tone made your resistance crumble, and you found yourself complying, your body responding to his words before your mind could catch up.

As he carefully bandaged your wound, his voice broke the tense silence. "Pack your stuff, we're leaving," he commanded, his tone leaving no room for debate.

His words reignited the simmering anger you'd just managed to tamp down. Who did he think he was, ordering you around as if you were his to command?

"Stop ordering me around like I'm your slave or something. And about that, I think I made it clear downstairs," you snapped, frustration seeping into your voice as you rose from the bed, him mirroring your movement.

You glared at him, eyes blazing with fury. "What are you trying to pull... huh... by doing all this?" The words spilled from your lips, sharp and cutting, but he just stared back at you with a blank expression that you found infuriatingly arrogant.

"What are you talking about?" he asked, his voice smooth, feigning an innocence that made your blood boil.

"Stop acting like you don't know anything," you shot back. "I know you did this on purpose. so tell me, What the hell are you trying to prove by doing all this?"

You jabbed your index finger into his clothed chest. "You know, you're the creepiest, weirdest alien in human disguise I've ever seen. Just a few days ago, you tried to kill me because I reminded you of someone. Then you said she's dead and that you cared about her a lot. And now you're saying that I'm that someone and giving me an ultimatum of 30 days!"
