Chapter- 22

Third person p.o.v-

"I hate you, Jeon Jungkook,"ย  her words echoed again in his mind, and he finally sat upright on the bed, holding his head and ran his hands through his hair. He didn't know why her words were bothering him so much. He shouldn't be affected by her words, but here he was, feeling like he was losing something so crucial. He needed to find out the truth behind all of this quickly; otherwise, he surely would go insane due to all of this.

Rising from the bed, he made his way to the wardrobe and retrieved his hoodie. Slipping it on, he departed from the mansion. The guards moved to follow him, but he forbade them. Taking a car, he drove off towards the Han Mansion. Why? He didn't know himself.

Arriving there, he retrieved a mask from his pocket and wore it to conceal his face and then got out of car. Scanning his surroundings with hawk-like eyes,ย he meticulously surveyed his surroundings. Ensuring he remained undetected by the cameras and security personnel, he breached the mansion's perimeter through the rear wall.

He already knew where Jin Ae's room was. So climbing with the help of eaves, he managed to reach the first floor. Holding the railing, he managed to get onto the balcony of Jin Ae's room. Being a mafia, all of this was a piece of cake for him. The balcony door was directly leading to her room.

Pushing the door cautiously, he found it already ajar. Maybe she forgot to close it. As he pushed the door more, it opened with a creaking sound. Hearing that sound, she opened her eyes for a second but closed them again. He came near her bed and stood there, staring at her continuously. The same feeling he was trying to avoid was back again.

His heartbeat quickened as he observed her presence, standing there like a specter. As his gaze drifted towards her neck, he noticed the finger marks he had left behind, causing a sharp pang in his heart. They appeared agonizingly painful to him, but why? He couldn't fathom the reason himself. His eyes narrowed as she curled into a ball, shivering from the cold. Sensing her distress, his hands moved instinctively, tucking her into the blanket with precision.

Fixating on her figure, he gently reached out and brushed his thumb against her cheek. A peculiar sensation surged through him as he made contact, causing his heartbeat to race. Just as he was about to retract his hand, she grasped it in her sleep, murmuring something unintelligible. Hearing her words, he found himself unable to pull away. He Settled himself on to a nearby chair, while she still holding onto him. He just continued to watch over her until sleep overtook him.

It was strange. Despite the soft and luxurious bed, he hadn't managed a wink of sleep, yet here, even in an uncomfortable position, holding her hand, he found himself drifting into peaceful slumber.

Come morning, he awoke before her, glancing at the clock to find it was 4:30 AM. He noticed that she was still holding the forefinger of his hand in her sleep. Gently disentangling his hand from hers, he cast one final glance her way before quietly departing from the room. Exiting the mansion, he left in the same discreet manner he had entered.

As he arrived at the Jeon mansion, one thing became abundantly clear to him: whatever was happening wasn't normal at all. He had never felt that much attracted to anyone. Other than one person, but she was deceased now. Then why did he sense her presence near Han Jin Ae? Why did he feel reminders of Lee Y/N whenever he encountered Jin Ae? Determined to unravel the truth, he resolved to investigate the matter himself.

Firstly, he delved into everything about Jin Ae - her likes, dislikes, mannerisms, relationships with family and friends, dreams, and fears. He conducted thorough research on her, leaving no stone unturned.ย

Then, he began to closely observe her, even resorting to stalking her like a creep, monitoring her every move, not leaving her alone anytime. He even started to sneak into her room every night, a behavior that left even Jimin and Taehyung astonished.ย By observing his actions, one might assume he had lost his mind. However, the truth was, he would have undoubtedly lost his sanity if he hadn't pursued the truth.

He became so consumed by his pursuit that he neglected his other responsibilities, focusing solely on stalking and observing her. However, by his observation, what shocked him the most was that Jin Ae's habits were entirely different from what he had researched. Her preferences, mannerisms, speech, and gait were all distinct. Yet, there was one unsettling realization that troubled him the most - every aspect of her behavior perfectly aligned with one person: Lee Y/N.

Another surprising revelation was Jin Ae's transformation. Once a tranquil and innocent girl, she had been driven to the brink by relentless bullying. Despite her gentle nature, she had reached a point where suicide seemed preferable to enduring her tormentors. Then, a fateful car accident left her in a coma, and upon awakening, she emerged as an entirely different individual - rebellious and assertive, possessing the ability to fight back. This stark transformation only deepened his suspicions more and more.

Sitting in his office lost in thought, Jungkook contemplated; How could her actions match this much to y/n. even though she isn't y/n at all.ย  Such thoughts swirled in his mind as he closed his eyes, taking a cigar between his lips. Lighting it with a lighter, he took a puff of smoke, pondering deeply.ย Jimin and Taehyung were also seated in the office, perched on a sofa, engrossed in sifting through some files.

After a moment of contemplation, he reopened his eyes when something hit mind and reached for his phone, dialing Jackson's number - one of his most trusted confidants.

"Jackson," he began as soon as the call connected, ''Summon the best astrologer of the country to me," he said, causing the file Jimin was holding to slip from his hands as he listened to the command. Not only Jimin, but Taehyung too was stunned by what they had just heard. Why? Because Jungkook was an atheist; he never believed in God, and neither did they. And yet, here he was, literally asking for an astrologer. Even Jackson was taken aback by his directive. However, who were they to question their boss's orders?

"Okay, boss, I'll do it," Jackson said from the other side, while Jungkook simply hummed in response.

Ending the call, Jungkook placed his phone in the drawer of the table. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he walked out of the office, ignoring the stunned expressions of his hyungs.

"Did you hear that too?" Jimin asked, looking at the door with a bewildered expression.

"Yeah, I did, but I can't understand what's going on in his mind," Taehyung replied, mirroring Jimin's surprised expression.

"Neither can I," Jimin replied.

The next day, Jackson summoned the country's best astrologer. Jungkook, who had been sitting in his room, emerged to greet him in the living room. Jungkook signaled for his bodyguards and maids to depart, and they respectfully bowed before leaving. As for Jimin and Taehyung, they were out of the mansion handling some business deals.

"I never thought I would have the honor to meet one of the biggest businessmen, Jeon Jungkook himself," the astrologer said with a polite smile as he took a seat. "I heard you don't believe in such things, so what made you summon me, Mr. Jeon?"

Jungkook chuckled at his statement. "You never know what situation can prompt you to act."

"Well, that's true," the astrologer sighed, grabbing the tea from the table, which had been brought in by a maid a few seconds earlier, and taking a sip. "So, what is it that you want to know, Mr. Jeon?" he asked, getting straight to the point, knowing Jungkook didn't like to waste time.

Jungkook closed his eyes, took a deep breath, then opened them again, stating, "Is it possible for two people to exchange their souls into each other's bodies?"

The astrologer frowned at the question. "Why do you want to know this, Mr. Jeon?"

"Just tell me, is it possible or not?" Jungkook asked sternly.

"Well, maybe it's possible" the astrologer began cautiously.

"I want a clear answer, not an assumption," Jungkook uttered darkly.

"Very well, Mr. Jeon," he stated, placing the tea cup back on the table. "Some astrologers believe in this possibility, but not everyone. Nevertheless..... this universe is full of mysteries, and anything can be possible in this world, even soul swapping," he added as Jungkook listened intently.

"You see, Mr. Jeon, this world is vast, and everything in it is governed by universal laws known as cosmic laws. These laws maintain peace and order in our world. Just like that, spirits are also bound by these cosmic laws," he explained. "Every person in this world is born for a reason; they cannot depart until that reason is fulfilled. You may have heard of cases where a patient's heartbeat stops for almost a minute, and doctors declare them dead. Yet, the next minute, their heartbeat resumes. This happens because of two reasons: first, their strong willpower to live, and second, because they haven't completed their life's purpose. So, the universe grants them a second chance, what doctors may call a miracle, which truly it is."

"And what about soul swapping?" Jungkook asked, intrigued.

"Regarding that, it occurs very rarely, about a 0.09% chance in 100%, but it is possible. The concept of soul swap was heavily believed in during the Egyptian era. It happens when a person's body is severely degraded, beyond repair, and there is no turning back. So, the universe selects another person whose time has come and transfers their soul into the second person's body. This is what we call a soul swap."
