Sometimes it's easier to stay quiet. You always thought that. Why? Less problems. Less attention. Less people to worry about. Like you're just.. fading to the background.

The only people who were aware of your talents were your sisters and now Tsukishima. Not that you wanted Tsukishima to know anyway. But now you've gained another person to care about. Not if you wanted to anyway, but you couldn't help it with him. Like he was a special case - something you couldn't quite understand.

You'd always cared and loved your family to pieces, your sisters and dad in particular. But that was a given. Him? Not so much.

You spent the evening wondering about it, the gentle blankets draped over your small figure that was lost in oversized clothing and the ominous darkness lingering in the room.

Why him?

You ran your fingertips across your scalp, almost like a personal massage as you observed a beam of cascading moonlight that used all of its strength to break through the crevices of your black out curtains, the tiniest light shimmering within the bedroom.

What was so special about him?

Kei Tsukishima...

Only the consistency of your own breathing echoed around your ear lobes, the late night accepting the silence of abandonment and the trance of sleep. But you were wide awake.

You'd always felt faded to the background.

Always seen as an extra character.

So why did he, out of all people, acknowledge your existence?

Maybe that was it?

Maybe that's why you cared so much.

Maybe it's because he made you feel like you weren't a figment of a background.

Like you were actually there.

Even if he was a little shit and did nothing but torment you, but at least, you realised that he saw you as someone worth acknowledging.

The next day at school was normal until lunch came around.

You fiddled with the ends of your hair, a juice carton hanging from your lips as you hummed soft melodies, your higher math text books surrounding you.

A knock on the door startled you until it swung open, making your heart thunder powerfully in your chest.

You exhaled a calmer breath of air when you realised it was just Tsukishima, his bag hanging over his shoulder as he turned and closed the door behind him with a small click.

"Calm down Tiny, it's just me." He saw your widened eyes but you settled gradually as he took a seat next to you. "What're you doing?"

"Well I was reading until you burst into the room." You huffed, flipping the page. He took the book from in front of you and placed it on his lap, scanning over the page.

"What the hell is this?" His eyebrows pinched together when he read the difficult math formulas you were revising. "All that stuff isn't in our learning regime until we're in our third year."

"Well I thought I'd get a head start." You snatched the book back from him. "It's easy to be honest." You rubbed the nape of your shoulder.

"Not too bad." He let out a breathy chuckle. "You aren't as stupid as I thought."

"Wow Thanks." You rolled your eyes with sarcasm laced in your tone. "Why are you here anyway, Tsukishima."

"Don't you remember our deal?" He smirked, you realising instantly and sighing.

"Yeah." You put down the book.

"So are you going to play something for me?" He continued, his teasing tone causing you severe irritation.

"What?" You asked in mild shock.

"You heard me." His condescending smirk made you want to smack it straight off his face, as he lifted his phone for you to see. "Or would you prefer me to-"

"No no no." You jumped up, knowing exactly what he was going to say, taking a seat at the piano.

He got up and sat down on the leather cushioned piano bench, next to you.

Your face burned a scorching red from your nerves, you attempting you calm your breathing as you hovered your shaky fingertips over the piano keys.

"What's up with you?" Tsukishima noticed your panicked state. "Are you nervous?"

"N-no!" You stammered a denial.

"Then just breathe." He said calmly, you locking your E/C eyes with his caramel brown ones, you admiring them for a spilt second before turning back to the piano. You took a deep breath and started playing, ignoring the hot blush on your cheeks.

Your fingers ran elegantly across the keys without mistake, like the music had absorbed you instantly, like it always does. The beautiful song filled the room equally, enticing you to continue to play without any fear. Without any anxiety.

Tsukishima started off watching your small hands dance across the piano top, amazed how flawlessly you were able to play and had fallen into the trance that made him never want to stop listening, similarly to when he heard you singing for the first time.

But eventually he couldn't stop his golden brown eyes from drifting towards your relaxed face, your eyes fluttered shut as you played, your long eyelashes resting tiredly on your face, your cheeks still flushed a soft pink. He noticed how when you reached more difficult parts of the song your eye lids squeezed a little bit before turning back to the eased state once you'd pressed the notes perfectly.

He observed how your soft H/C hair always rested gently, a shimmer coming from the strands. And how your soft skin creased and relaxed when you played your favourite and more passionate parts of the song, emotion pouring from your tender expression.

Once you'd finished, you dropped your hands onto your lap, glancing over to the blond next to you, him snapping his eyes away and back to the black and white piano keys, a light pink blush scattering his cheekbones.

"Was that good enough for you?" You shook your head jokingly, a slightly nervous laugh at the end.

"I- Uhm." Tsukishima didn't know what to say. "That was actually, incredible, Tiny." He gawked but tried not to show it too much.

"Oh- Thankyou!" You smiled widely, your beaming grin making him gulp anxiously at the feelings you swarmed him with so suddenly. You both sat side by side awkwardly, him not knowing what to say and you fiddling with the fabric of your skirt. Eventually you spoke. "So why don't you have a go."

"No you'll get jealous that I'm better than you." He sneered, you rolling your eyes.

"Try it." You tempted. He let out an amused exhale of air and placed his long fingers onto the keys, tapping completely random notes which made you snicker as his failed attempt.

"See. Told you." He said with all seriousness. "I'm better than you."

"Haha sure string bean." You shook your head as you laughed. "Here. Like this." You grabbed his hand with yours and used his finger to play specific individual keys, eventually playing the tune to 'twinkle twinkle little star'.

"Sorry but.." he twisted his palm and grabbed your wrist, pulling it up a bit so it hovered ahead of you, then stretching out your fingers so you had an open hand. "Why are your hands so small?"

"Oh fuck you, Tsukishima." You chuckled as you pulled it away.

"No I'm serious." He lifted his hand and imitated the way yours was, his palm outstretched. You raised your hand again and placed it against his, yours being ridiculously tiny compared to his, and your fingertips only reaching the middle bend of his fingers.

You peered to each other, eyes melting to one another but your face suddenly burst into a scorching blush when his fingers wrapped over yours, interlocking gently which caught you off guard. He smirked at your flustered reaction, you not knowing what to do, but he decided to tease you further by rubbing his thumb across your soft skin, pulling you closer so that your faces were in line, his cheeky smile unwavering.

"Same time tomorrow, Tiny." He said lowly, standing up and grabbing his bag, walking out of the room without another word.

Your cheeks scolded with a red blush and you were frozen in a light shock, the bell sounding a few seconds later making you let out a startled squeal before you slapped your hand over your mouth.

What the fuck are you doing to me, Tsukishima?!

You jumped up and packed away your belongings, throwing your bag over your shoulders and making your way to class...
