"Morning, Grindelwald's!" Johnny said cheerfully as he walked into the kitchen on the morning of September 1st. This was a big year for the Grindelwald children. Winona and Delphini were entering their seventh and final year at Hogwarts, while Rhett was entering his sixth year. Noah Harry Grindelwald, their nine year old and youngest child would be entering the school in two years time.
Johnny and Hermione were immensely proud of their three children, all three of them came out with all O's in their O.W.L examinations, and therefore qualified to take all of their electives for N.E.W.T level. Winona wanted to be a teacher like her father, whereas Delphini wanted to be a Quidditch player after becoming Slytherin Quidditch Captain and Beater, winning the Quidditch Cup three times in a row. Rhett had no clue what he wanted to do at the moment, he was undecided on entering the Ministry alongside his mother or becoming a zoologist like his hero, Newt Scamander.
"Morning, Dad," the four kids said in unison, grinning as their father kissed their foreheads.
"Morning, Angel," Johnny grinned, wrapping his arms around Hermione's waist from behind as she stood at the oven, flipping their bacon.
"Good morning, Bubs," Hermione leaned back against him, tilting her head back to kiss her husband on the cheek. "Ready for another action packed year?"
"I've been ready for an action packed year at Hogwarts since I was thirteen," the two giggled. Once breakfast was ready, Johnny dished it out onto plates and sat in between Noah and Rhett, silently listening to his Rhett and his friends had planned to prank Daphne Greengrass, the History of Magic Professor. Rhett knew he'd end up in detention with his father, but they'd just sit and chat for an hour before Johnny would send him away.
"Off we trot then," said Johnny when his watch struck ten o'clock. After making three trips to the car because of the heavy cases, Johnny shut the boot off his magicked Ford EcoSport and leaned against it, panting.
"Are you alright, Dad?" Winona asked, sticking her head out of the window.
"I'm to old for this shit," said Johnny, causing the kids in the car to laugh as he got in the drivers seat. After double checking the three that were leaving for Hogwarts had all their things and their respective owls, Johnny put the car in motion. After a short ten minute drive, the family piled out of the car at Kings Cross Station, and Johnny ran across the street to get three trolleys.
"Here we are then," Johnny said as he followed the kids through the station to the pillar between Platforms 9 and 10. The Grindelwald family ignored the strange looks they were receiving for their owls and met up with Harry and Ginny and their kids.
"Oh god, here comes trouble," Harry joked when he saw Johnny. The two laughed as they embraced and their kids groaned at their humour.
"Can't believe they let you out of the house," Johnny grinned, punching his best friend lightly in the stomach, nodding towards Noah and Lily Luna Potter, who were talking with their hands linked. "As the kids say these days, I ship it."
"I hate you so much," Delphini groaned from besides him, causing the two men to chuckle as Johnny kissed her head. The Grindelwald family followed the Potter's through, leaving just Hermione and Johnny.
"Excuse me," called a voice from behind them, causing Hermione and Johnny to turn on the spot. A thin man, with his wife and eleven year old girl approached them slightly out of breath. "Uh, this may sound absolutely crazy, but do you know where Platform 9 and 3/4's is? It's my daughters first time."
"Yes, you have to run straight through the wall," said Hermione, her hand on Johnny's chest. "It's crazy, I know," Hermione added at the look on their faces. "This is my husband, Johnny Grindelwald-"
"He's the Headmaster!" The eleven girl said in shock. "I'm Violet Dursley."
"Dursley, you say?" Johnny looked the man up and down. "As in Dudley?"
"Aye, that's me," Dudley raised an eyebrow. "Your Harry's other cousin, I thought I recognised the name!"
"You look well, mate," Johnny complimented him, liking the newer version of the boy he once met.
"However lovely it is for you to catch up," Dudley's wife caught their attention. "The train is leaving soon," the two men nodded in embarrassment. The Grindelwald husband and wife let the three Dursley's go first, then when it was clear ran after them, appearing besides their children.
"Let's go find the others then," the stream from the train blinded their vision as the family of six began walking down the platform, Johnny and Hermione greeting people as they passed. The couple were very influential in the Wizarding World due to their well respected jobs.
"Look! There they are!" Noah pointed out at Ron, Padma, Paul, Bhavna and Rose, standing besides the Dursley's and the Potter's
"Parked all right, then?" Ron asked Johnny. "I did. Padma didn't believe I could pass a Muggle driving test, did you? She thought I'd have to Confound the examiner."
"No, I didn't," said Padma, "I had complete faith in you."
"As a matter of fact, I did Confund him," Ron whispered to Dudley, Harry and Johnny, as together they lifted the kid's trunks and owls onto the train. "I only forgot to look in the wing mirror, and let's face it, I can use a Supersensory Charm for that."
Back on the platform, they found Noah, Lily and Paul, Rose's and Bhavna's younger brother, having an animated discussion about which House they would be sorted into when they finally went to Hogwarts.
"If you're not in Gryffindor, we'll disinherit you," said Ron, "but no pressure."
"Ron!" Padma and Hermione scolded the man.
Noah, Lily and Paul laughed, but Albus and Rose looked solemn.
"He doesn't mean it," said Padma, Hermione and Ginny in unison, but Ron was no longer paying attention. Catching Harry's and Johnny's eye, he nodded covertly to a point some fifty yards away. The steam had thinned for a moment, and three people stood in sharp relief against the shifting mist.
"Look who it is."
Draco Malfoy was standing there with his wife, Selena and son, a dark coat buttoned up to his throat. His hair was receding somewhat, which emphasised the pointed chin. The new boy resembled Draco as much as Rhett and Noah resembled Johnny. Draco caught sight of Johnny, Hermione, Harry, Ron, Padma, and Ginny staring at him, nodded, and turned away again.
"So that's little Scorpius," said Ron under his breath. "Make sure you beat him in every test, Rosie. Thank God you inherited your mother's brains."
"Ron, for heaven's sake," said Padma, half stern, half amused. "Don't try to turn them against each other before they've even started school!"
"You're right, sorry," said Ron, but unable to help himself, he added, "Don't get too friendly with him, though, Rosie. Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pureblood."
"Hey!"
James and Rhett had reappeared; the two boys had divested themselves of their trunks, owls, and trollies, and were evidently bursting with news.
"Teddy's back there," James said breathlessly, pointing back over their shoulders into the billowing clouds of steam.
"Just seen him! And guess what he's doing? Snogging Victoire!" Rhett said, amused at his brother. Johnny and Harry burst out laughing at Ron's protective look.
"Oh, it would be lovely if they got married!" whispered Lily ecstatically to Noah and Paul. "Teddy would really be part of the family then!"
"He already comes round for dinner with you guys about four times a week ," said Johnny, jokingly patting her head. "Why don't we just invite you all to live with us and have done with it?"
Not happening," Harry, Ginny and Hermione dismissed instantly.
"Come on!" said James enthusiastically. "I don't mind sharing with Al, Paul and Rhett- Teddy could have my room!"
"No," said Johnny firmly, "you boys will share a room only when I want the house demolished."
He checked the battered old watch that had once been Fabian Prewett's.
"It's nearly eleven, you'd better get on board."
"Don't forget to give Neville our love!" Ginny told James as she hugged him.
"Mum! I can't give a professor love!"
"But you know Neville-"
James rolled his eyes.
"Outside, yeah, but at school he's Professor Longbottom, isn't he? I can't walk into Herbology and give him love...."
Shaking his head at his mother's foolishness, he vented his feelings by aiming a kick at Albus.
"See you later, Al. Watch out for the thestrals."
"I thought they were invisible? You said they were invisible!" but James merely laughed, permitted his mother to kiss him, gave his father a fleeting hug, then leapt onto the rapidly filling train. They saw him wave, then sprint away up the corridor to find his friends.
"I'll see you all tonight!" Johnny yelled after them, hugging Rhett as he quickly followed James. He turned to Delphini and Winona, who were having their annual teary goodbye with their mother.
"I'll see you tonight, sweethearts," Johnny whispered in their ears, pulling his daughters in for a tight hug. "We'll make your last year special, I promise," the two girls nodded, smiling as Johnny wiped their tears away and kissed their foreheads. Johnny watched as Winona met up with her boyfriend, Abraham Parkinson-Blackwood and Delphini met up with her girlfriend, Abigail Belgrade and go into their own compartment.
"Dad, what if I'm in Slytherin?" Johnny heard Albus whisper to Harry. Both men crouched down so they were eye level with the boy.
"Albus Johnathan Potter," said Harry, so only Johnny and Albus could hear them. "You was named after two Hogwarts Headmasters, one of then is a Slytherin, and he is the bravest man I've ever known," Johnny could've cried right there and then. Hearing Harry, his best friend and brother talk about him that way made him smile. Albus smiled at both men, hugging them both before jumping into the carriage and Ginny closed the door behind him. Students were hanging from the windows nearest them. A great number of faces, both on the train and off, seemed to be turned toward Harry and Johnny.
"Why are they all staring?" demanded Albus as he and Rose craned around to look at the other students.
"Don't let it worry you," said Johnny, winking at them. "It's me, I'm extremely famous."
Rhett, Winona, Delphini, Albus, Rose, Hugo, Violet and Lily laughed. The train began to more, and Harry and Johnny walked alongside it, watching their children's and godchildren's thin faces, already ablaze with excitement. Johnny kept smiling and waving, even though it was like a little bereavement, watching his children glide away from him... he knew it was stupid, getting tearful of leaving his children even though he'd see them all later that evening, but he couldn't help it.
The last trace of steam evaporated in the autumn air. The train rounded a corner. Harry's hand was still raised in farewell.
"He'll be alright," murmured Johnny, wrapping his arm around Harry's shoulder as the two stared at the scarlet steam train.
As Harry looked at Johnny, he lowered his hand absentmindedly and touched the lightning scar on his forehead.
"I know he will."
After the whole fiasco at the platform, Johnny left the men with handshakes and hugged and kissed the women goodbye, promising to see them all tonight at their annual party. Johnny was even kind enough to invite Dudley and his wife along, insisting that they were part of the gang now their daughter was at Hogwarts and friends with their children. The man spun on the spot, and landed on his feet inside his office. He greeted the portraits of previous Headmasters and sat behind his desk, greeting his owl, Tiberius, with a pat on the head.
Johnny had been doing paperwork so long, that he didn't even realise that night was falling over the ground and Neville stood in front of him.
"It's time for the feast ,mate," Neville pointed behind him at the doorway. Johnny followed him, chatting quietly about anything as the two Professors made their way to the Great Hall. Johnny had just sat down at the centre of the table, in between Daphne, his Deputy Headmistress and Neville, when Hagrid, who got his job as Care of Magical Creatures back after he completed his education, pushed open the doors of the Great Hall and led the scared First Years between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff table.
Johnny clapped enthusiastically for all the students who were sorted, but put extra emphasis when it was one of his friends children who was sorted. Albus was eventually put into Slytherin, and the boy glanced back at Johnny who nodded encouragingly at his Godson. The Potter boy smiled, and Johnny was remembered of Harry all those years ago. When the time was right, Johnny stood from the table and approached the podium, his arms stretched out if inviting his students in for a hug.
"Ladies and gentlemen, to our new students, welcome! To our old, welcome back..."
A/n: So if you saw my announcement earlier, this was the final chapter of Lady in Red. I want to thank each individual reader who has supported this book over the last couple of months. I never expected it to reach the milestones it had. Through this book I had made many great friends and I hope they all, like you, continue to support my future projects.
A fact chapter will be released at some point, which is basically me discussing abandoned and forgotten plot lines, old faceclaims for Johnny and discussing Johnny's life after this chapter.
Once again, I thank you all for your wonderful support, and I leave you now with a meme created by TotalKO123.
