The school year was about to start soon.

Unfortunately.

That meant kids ranging from toddlers to even grown adults were getting ready for the new year. Fresh pencils and notebooks, crayons and markers, and especially getting a new mentality. Everybody was going to need it.

However, there was one week that everyone in Queensokyo dreaded.

Orientation week.

Where everyone had to meet up with their new teachers and check out the classrooms; getting used to the environment. Some found it enduring, others found it a chore. At least everybody hoped this new year would be better than the last one.

So, this is where you are at the moment. You were dressed into the school's uniform, which was mandatory for the person you were going to meet. You tugged on your sleeve, rubbing the yellow fleece material between your fingers.

You stared down at the paper in your clammy hands, gripping the material. You looked up, noticing the signs inside the building.

Currently, you were supposed to meet up with the principal for the meeting, considering you were a new recruit to the student council. It was going to be your first year in high school.

However... you were standing there like a sore thumb, your eyes going back and forth from the sign to the map in your hands. Holy fuck, this place was huge.

And you were pretty certain you were lost.

Your face flushed, heating up to the max as you stuffed your face in the papers. Even comedic steam erupted from your head. Wow, the school year was already going great for you. You didn't notice, but there was a boy right around the corner.

He had black hair that reached to his shoulders and long bangs that parted in between in his eyes. He wore the standard uniform, but swapped out the yellow fleece for a striped black and white pattern.

Not to mention that mask he wore and that snake around him, was that even allowed on school grounds? But the most noticeable thing about him was the heterochromia pair of eyes. They were really pretty.

The boy paused in his steps, noticing a vibrant pink and green color from the corner of his eyes. He hummed, looking over his shoulder, his snake companion mimicking his actions. In his vision, he saw another boy who just stood there, hiding their flushed face in a piece of paper.

He blinked slowly, cocking his head to the side. He wasn't expecting to see another person, considering school started next week. Then, he remembered that the student council members were supposed to meet up a few days before school started.

Perhaps this was a new recruit. He sighed tiredly, rolling his eyes a bit. Great. Another problem for him. But as a member of the upper ranks, he was supposed to help the newcomers out.

With an annoyed breath, he walked up to you. He was already preparing for the rest. At least almost every boy in this entire school was either too cocky for their own good, or tried to hold up a fake demeanor. Only a few of the males in this school had his respect.

Not expecting much, his feet dragged him closer towards you. Finally reaching your form, he tapped your shoulder. You gasped, shooting your head up from the touch. Your head turned to see who the person was.

When you were face to face with him, you felt a shiver run down your spine. You couldn't help but think the boy looked so scary! It was his eyes practically staring daggers into you. There was an awkward silence, none of you speaking up.

You broke the silence first before the boy could even mutter a word. You swiftly faced him, your face completely hot as you gripped your hands to your chest tightly. "Help! I'm lost!" You wailed out, sweating profusely.

The boy stood there, dumb founded by your sudden outburst. He wasn't expecting you to be so... emotional. His snake was taken aback as well. He was expecting some sort of cocky and boasting boy, not some emotional boy who looked like he was going to faint from embarrassment.

Feeling some sort of pity, the boy helped you by leading you in the right direction. Apparently, you were completely on the other side of where you were supposed to go, which made you even more embarrassed with yourself.

But regardless of the whole fiasco, you were utterly grateful when the boy came to save you. Not to mention he was undeniably cute in your eyes. With his cool and composed self, you already started to like him.

Finally standing in front of the door, you were able to make it a few minutes early to your appointment. Before entering, you gave a hug towards the boy and waved goodbye before disappearing inside.

Meanwhile, the boy who helped you stood frozen, his eyes blown wide from the sudden gesture. He was completely awe-struck by you, with your vibrant colors and unique personality. His snake companion already seemed to like you, considering he had a longing gaze towards the door.

Finally moving his stiff legs, he couldn't get you off his mind. Without noticing, his cheeks started to turn a bit red as the corners of his mouth behind his mask tugged upwards.

For the first time in his whole entire life, his cold heart skipped a beat.

Finally arriving, you sat there picking at your fingers as you nervously chewed on your lip.

The principle was evaluating you, with his wife by his side helping him. He was a blind man, which surprised you a bit but that made you admire him because despite his blindness, it didn't hold him back from doing his job.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki was his name, with his wife called Amane. They were both really pretty and intelligent. He seemed like a kind man, and you hoped that he'd accept you. With a soft smile on his lips, his milky white eyes locked onto where your sat figure was supposed to be.

"Splendid." He started, his tone as soft as silk and warm as a sunny bright day. You snapped out of your trance, straightening up in response when he started speaking. "You're someone the gods have a special love for, (Y/N)."

"Take pride in your own strength," Kagaya advised, knowing that the young boy in front of him was insecure of his abilities. He wanted the boy to give his all and to show no fear of what type of person he was.

Your lips parted, gasping under your breath softly as he spewed more and more compliments about you. You were... not expecting this, to the least. "All those who speak ill of you fear your talent... and wish they could be you, that's all."

Even with his soothing voice and calming expression, he spoke those words to you with so much genuineness from the bottom of his heart. He knew how much you struggled with your life, but you still picked up yourself through those hardships and never let them bring you down.

He was able to consider you as one of his children now.

Those few simple words impacted you greatly. That was all you wanted to hear, getting accepted and praised for your unique abilities. The principle didn't see a freak, he saw a hopeless romantic boy who would now fight for his love.

Your bottom lip quivered, warm tears bubbling up in your eyes. You tried your hardest to fight the urge to break down, but it was so hard when the words you have been desperately trying to get were now being said to you.

Unfortunately, the water dam broke. Your tears started to spill through your eyes as you wailed loudly, holding so much emotion. You bowed down, showing your respect and gratitude towards him. "Thank you very much!"

Your voice cracked a bit, and was a bit shaky due to your constant sobbing you muffled under your arms. You were just so happy that you couldn't get the tears to stop falling down your cheeks. They kept coming and coming.

'Father... Mother... Thank you for making me strong from birth!'

Without your parent's unconditional love and support, you knew you wouldn't be right where you were standing right now. They were able to shape you up into the strong teenage boy you are today.

After saying goodbyes to the principal and his wife, you were able to meet up with some students who were cleaning up the school. Supposedly, they were the ones who were assistants to the students whenever they were wounded, needing repair for their uniform, or simply cleaning up their messes. They earned the nickname "Kakushi", being the brigade to the academy.

They were nice people, and they swiftly accepted you to being the new recruit to the student council.

'Everyone in the student council has accepted me!'

"Congratulations on being promoted to the upper ranks!" One started, giving his congratulations towards you. "Yes, congrats!" Another agreed, both of the student's eyes holding sparkles as they blushed in admiration.

"Kyooooo! Thanks! I'm going to give it my all!" You squealed, a cheeky grin on your lips as you pressed your hand onto your warming cheeks with each congratulations. Beside you, you pulled out a plate with a tower of Sakura mochi stacked onto one another.

"Do you want some Sakura mochi? Sorry, I only have a few!" 'A few' was an understatement, considering how much Sakura mochi was on the plate. The two Kakushi backed away a bit, laughing nervously.

However, they caved in once they noticed your proud and adorable expression on your features. Grabbing a few for themselves, the three of you chatted away until it was time to go home.

That night, you went to bed with a giddy smile and happily dreamed about your new position in the student council.ย
