Today was warm. The usual blue sky faded into a creamy orange, giving off a perfect afternoon. The sun slowly drifted downwards, getting ready to sleep for the day as the moon will soon take its place.

On the sidewalk, a young woman was seen along the path. She panted softly under her breath, carrying a heavy bucket filled to the brim with water. Walking down the familiar path, she took in the comforting silence with the additional natural sounds surrounding the place.

The day was really nice. Too bad that it will be evening soon. After a few more minutes of walking, she was met with the familiar sight of her home. Walking inside, she placed the bucket down and took a seat.

She huffed with relief, her hand resting on the bump on her stomach. It was a bit harder to do chores around the house with a baby growing inside her and with another child to take care of, but she doesn't seem to mind.

Speaking of the other child... the woman looked over to her side to check on her first born. However, she was met with the sight of an empty bed with a cat resting next to it. She leaned forward, trying to get a better view.

"(y/n)?" She called out. She was met with silence. She stood up, raising a brow with confusion. She swore before she went out her baby was resting...

"Where did you go, (y/n)?" She called out again. Once again, she didn't get anything in response. Concern started to bubble up inside her. Before she could distress anymore, her ears picked up babbling noises from her side.

She widened her eyes a bit from the sudden noise. She turned her head towards the source, "(y/-" Before she could utter another word, she was met with a mop of (h/c) hair in front of her. But, she paused when she noticed that her baby was holding a boulder half his size.

"Ta-da!" The child giggled out as he held the rock proudly, a large smile stretching across his face as drool seeped from the corner of his mouth. His mother screamed at the sight, absolutely baffled with the situation.

Of course she would panic, her 14 month old child was carrying a rock that could crush him! She stumbled back before falling on her bottom, shock written all over her face as she stared back at her child.

Her lime green eyes stared into the glittering (e/c) eyes before her and she couldn't help but melt at the sight of her son smiling so proudly at her. Her son plopped the rock beside him, stumbling a bit but he was able to stand up properly.

Waddling over, he fell onto his knees before plopping down in his mother's arms. Snapping out of her dazed charm, she looked down at her baby who was gripping her clothing and smiling up at her.

Cracking a grin, she started to rub her son's head, smoothing out any misplaced strand of his hair. He giggled, leaning into his mother's touch with glee. His father who heard the commotion popped out of nowhere and walked over to where his family was.

Crouching down beside his wife, he looked over at his child with a proud smile. His son looked over at him and giggled, clearly happy to see his father. In response, the man grinned widely at his son, relishing in the bubbly laughter his son was giving him.

His wife laughed cheerfully, flashing him a close eyed smile. She glanced down at her son and gave him a soft smile, using her free hand to caress his chubby cheek. "Thanks for always being a good helper!" She praised him.

Her son kept looking at her with his gleeful smile, before squealing and stuffing his face into her tummy. Both parents laughed at their child antics. They couldn't help but hug him and laughing along with him, cooing and praising their small child.

Their son babbled and giggled with delight.

Even if he was just 14 months old, he already adored his parents.

It's been months now ever since the entire incident happened. You were now 2 and a half years old. You finally know how to walk a bit more properly and instead of babbles, you were able to say a few words, even if they were slurred together.

However, you hadn't forgotten the bump on your mother's belly. It grew a bit bigger during the past few months  and you always wondered why she had it. They explained that you were going to be a big brother because another child was on its way.

You only looked at your mother's stomach with amazement, eyes sparkling at the new discovery. You reached out and hugged the bump softly, snuggling your face into it. Even if your little brother wasn't born, you already loved him.

So, this is where you were right now. Both you and your father stood outside the door leading to where your mother was resting. The hospital was buzzing as ever as doctors and nurses walked and ran through every corner of the place.

Looking at the door in front of you, you could only tilt your head at the door. Your father placed a hand on his hip, smiling with determination at the door in front of him. "Yosh! It's time to meet your little brother! Are you ready?"

He exclaimed with a loud voice, startling you for a bit. You could only look back with uncertainty, a small out forming on your lips. Even if you were buzzing with excitement, you couldn't help but feel nervous.

Was your new brother going to like you? What if he starts crying when he sees you? What if he hates you already?!

Your small hands subconsciously gripped your father's shirt tightly, a small whine released from your mouth. He looked down at you softly, his face giving off an understanding look. "Are you scared?" He asked you.

You stayed quiet, but eventually gave a small nod. You looked up with glistening eyes, tears already prickling the corner of your eyes. "What if he doesn't like me? I'll be the worst big brother in the world!"

You wailed out, already feeling insecure with yourself. Your father panicked a bit as you started to sob in his arms. Shuffling a bit, he pressed you against his chest as he tried to calm you down. "Ua- Hey, hey! He won't hate you! In fact, you'll do an awesome job of taking care of him that he'll think you are the best big brother in the whole world!"

He caressed your head, causing you to look up at him with wet tears clinging onto your cheeks. He emphasized his words by spreading his free arm out to demonstrate the whole world.

You sniffled, rubbing your arm across your eyes to dry your tears. "Re... really?" You hiccuped. Your father grinned, giving you a thumbs up. "I know so!" He then hugged you tightly, causing you to squeak before giggling, wrapping your small arms around his neck to hug him back.

Your father hated seeing his son cry, and he would do anything to make him show his beaming smile once again. After a few more seconds of hugging, you mentally prepared yourself when your father went to open the hospital door.

Sucking in a breath, he opened the door. The room was filled with quiet cries with soft words being murmured. You gripped your father tightly, causing him to give you a reassuring squeeze.

Walking a few more steps, you reached where your mother was resting. Instead of her usual clothing, she was wearing a blue hospital gown. Noticing both of your presence, she looked from her arms and saw her husband and son settling down to sit next to her.

Despite being exhausted, she was able to muster a soft smile towards both of you. Your father reached over to kiss her on the cheek, causing her to hum with content. Noticing that the crying was a bit louder, you were able to pick up something moving in your mother's arms.

You leaned a bit forward, trying to get a better look at what the mysterious object could be laying in your mother's arms. Both of your parents felt you shifting, so they put their attention back at you.

They couldn't help but chuckle under their breath when they saw their child looking curiously at the source which was letting out soft wails. Your mother shifted a bit, causing you to recoil back as you watched your mother shuffle her arms closer to you.

Your mother smiled softly, "Meet your new brother, (y/n)." She spoke softly towards you. Your mouth made a small 'o' shape, your eyes taking in your new brother. He had a small amount of black hair that would soon grow out and had the same moles that both you and him inherited from your father.

He was crying softly as he tossed and turned in the bundle of blankets he was wrapped in. You watched with astonishment, eyes sparkling with amazement. "Woah..." You gasped under your breath, leaning a bit closer to get a better look of your brother.

Your mother fondly chuckled, enjoying your reaction. "(y/n), would you like to hold him?" Your mother asked you. The question caused you snap your head towards her, sparkles surrounding you.

"I can?!" You shouted out, trying to see if it was okay. Your mother closed her eyes, giving you a smile as she nodded at you. You turned to look back at your father, searching for an answer. He grinned brightly, giving you a smile.

You turned back at the small baby in your mother's arms, giving a nervous frown. Your father squeezed your shoulder, trying to encourage you. After a while, you gave a firm nod. You shuffled closer to your mother, moving onto her bed as you held your arms out.

She lifted her newborn son and placed him in your arms, moving your arms in the right position to hold him. Finally learning the proper way of holding a baby, you sat there with your brother in your arms.

However, you were stiff from nerves and you even stopped breathing for a split second. The baby's cries died down, now hiccuping and sniffling. He slowly opened his eyes, showing of his shimmering eyes.

You couldn't help but tilt your head softly, noticing that he had the same (e/c) eyes as you, just in a darker shade. His round eyes stared into your doe eyes, both of you silent as the two of you stared into each other.

It was a bit awkward since no one has spoken a word. Deciding to break the silence, you opened your mouth, "Hi... little brother." You mumbled softly to him, giving a small but nervous smile towards him.

Lifting a hand, you showed your baby brother your small hand towards him. Your brother looked at your hand curiously, letting a small sound of curiosity towards the outstretched hand. He lifted up his own, curling his small, chubby fingers around your index finger in a gentle but firm grip.

You watched intently, trying not to make much movement as you feared it might scare him away. Your brother still didn't do anything as he stared at your finger with a blank expression. You couldn't help but raise your shoulders a bit, a frown stretching across your face.

You knew it. He hated you. Of course he wouldn't like you. You're going to be the worst brother and the whole world will end and then-!

Suddenly, a cheerful giggle broke the silence. You flinched a bit because the noise startled you from your thoughts. However, your brother didn't seem to mind. Instead, he squealed and brought your hand closer, cuddling his face into it gleefully.

You widened your eyes, taking in the scene of your brother happily laughing and smushing his face into your hand. Your doubts were instantly thrown out of the window as you saw how your brother seemed to already tolerate you.

Your eyes started to sparkle, the color in your eyes swirling. Your mouth slowly curled into a big smile, eyes crinkling at the side to show how much you were smiling. You watched with adoring eyes as your brother played with your fingers, gripping and bending them as he grinned at every movement.

Moving him closer to your chest, you couldn't help but hug him tightly and giggle with glee. Your brother joined in your giggles, and soon your parents joined in with how contagious your laughter was.

You rubbed your cheek against his head as he snuggled into your chest in return. Your cheeks warmed up as your mouth was curled into the biggest grin. Your brother adored you, and you couldn't help but adore him too.

You closed your eyes, sinking into the small but memorable moment as you felt your parents wrap their arms around your curled figure. You leaned into them, re-opening your eyes to look down at your brother who was smiling up at you.

Smiling proudly at him, you closed your eyes once again and flashed him a toothy grin.

'Don't worry, little brother, I'll make sure that I'll be the best big brother for you.'

And you're sure as hell you will keep that promise and keep it with you until your last breaths.
