So... if you've been in ATSV fandom for a while, you would know that a bunch of people are split.

If you don't know what I mean, let me explain. There's this popular ship called Punkflower, which is the name for Miles x Hobie.

'Punk' comes from spiderpunk, as 'Flower' is used for Miles because one of his favorite song is Sunflower by Post Malone (such a banger and I was obsessed with it when I was younger)

Before I get into the drama, let me clarify everyone's age.

Miles morales: 14 (into the spiderverse) → 15/16 (Across spiderverse)

Gwen Stacy: 15 (into the spiderverse) → 16/17 (Across the spiderverse)

Pavitr: 14/15 (Across spiderverse)

(Y/N) Kanroji: 15 (into the spiderverse) → 16 (Across the spiderverse)

I always put the reader a middle age towards the love interests so it seems a bit fair and reasonable.

Now, people are getting worked up because we don't really have a confirmed age for Hobie.

He's really tall (canonically like 6'4") and lanky, so many people believe he's a young adult. (even though teenagers can be so fuckin' massive because ive definitely seen some teens be so tall and they're only 13-17)

Because of this, many people harassed the shippers. Personally, I think that's messed up because I don't really blame the shippers because the age wasn't confirmed.

However, I see where the anti's are coming from because Hobie does look like a young adult.

Now appearently, there may have been some confirmation of his age at the moment. (Im not sure if it will change in the future considering the other movie coming out, but I'll work with what we got)

First off, if anyone has tik tok (which I hope burns) and hang around the ATSV tag, you have probably seen the clip where the directors are in an interview.

As many as you guys might know, the clip was shown to say that the directors were talking about Hobie's character designs.

The clip said that he was this 19-20 year old, tall dude and kinda a dork and then they cut the clip right there.

Now, obviously people are gonna believe that and jump the gun because its the internet so they automatically went to go attack punkflower and chaiflower (Pavitr x Hobie) shippers.

But, I watched the full podcast scene and what the clip didn't include was that they scrapped that idea and his age is up to interpretation by one of the directors.

They were also talking about like this Prowler Hobie, not the Hobie we got in the final movie. So tik tok is just pulling the clip out of context and giving away information that's not true (not surprised)

Now, I'll try to answer the best of my ability to the things people said.

"He's so tall so he is an adult!"

Appearence ≠ age (except the 1000 year old lolis but thats a different story) I probably assume you're not outside enough because teenagers can definitely be really tall.

"Well... he can go to the pub so he's most likely 18!"

Now, I am not british or from the UK at ALL but I have been able to research about it.

The age of drinking over there is I believe is 18 and up. However, 16 year old and up can get alcohol if an adult is consenting for it or the teen has special requirements.

Not to mention that the pub is not neccesarily a bar. The pub mostly sells food and you can order alcohol if requested, while the bar mostly sells alcoholic beverages.

Also, Hobie doen't follow laws so I wouldn't be surprised if he's an underage drinker.

"He's been spider-man for three years, he would have been to young to be spider-man!"

If you've been a spider-man fan for a while, im sure that you would know that the time spider-man gets bitten is in the age range of 14-16. Gwen also has been spider-man (well, woman) for two years in the first movie, bumped up to three years since the second movie is taken place one year after the events.

That means she was 14 when she started her career. Now you're telling me if Hobie was 17, 14 is too young? Gwen did it, why can't Hobie do it?

Miles started at 14 as well, why can't Hobie? I'm sorry, but it just kind of weird that its okay for them to start off that young but Hobie can't.

branching off from that, he's always referred as "a hot-headed teenager" so uh, I think it's pretty explanatory from the phrase.

Also, Punkflower has actually been around for a while, so it's nothing new. The community was just really small. There was also jokes in the movie of Gwen having some sort of relationship with Hobie, so if he was around 19/20, it'd be a bit weird to make jokes with a minor in the movie.

In the japanese official art book, there was a line where he was referred as a young teenage boy, and was factually checked with a person who knows fluent Japenese I believe???

Now this could be forged, but since there is so little evidence about his age that I'm just gonna go what this person and what one of the directors said.

By any means, I am not attacking the anti's because it won't make me any better.

So from my knowledge, I will believe that he is around 17. Unless there is more factual evidence that he is older than that, I'll stand by my case.

Confirming from this, I will make Hobie a love interest. However, if a majority of you are uncomfortable of me making him a love interest, please please PLEASE let me know because I would hate making my readers uncomfortable.

I want them to have the best reading experience they could have and if more people prefer platonic than romantic, I will make him a platonic interest. I want you guys to vote so I could see what I will do with him between the reader.

I will also admit that I was wrong if it turns out to be false ans try my best to make everything platonic, but for now I'm going with the information I gathered.
