CHAPTER THREE.

REESE HAD her nose buried in a book, pumpkin spice latte on the table in front of her while she and Grace studied, she hadn't really seen or hung out with many people for the past couple weeks, focusing on her studies instead.

"Reese." Grace whined, shutting her laptop dramatically. "Hm?" She hummed in response, not looking up. "Im sick and tired of studying." Her best friend continued to whine and all Reese did was laugh, finally looking up from her book and shutting it.

"We should like, plan a group hangout or something. Its October! We have to go to a pumpkin patch or something, maybe a scary corn maze too." Grace chirped up excitedly as she spoke, a million ideas coming to mind.

"Okay, I'll text the girls." Reese smiled, she adored the fall and all the activities that came with it. "You should invite the basketball girls." Grace smirked, a teasing tone in her voice.

"Oh my god Grace, they're probably busy, unlike our friend group i doubt those girls are acclimatized to out of the blue plans like ours." Reese rolled her eyes, her best friend had been nagging her constantly about seeing their basketball players who had taken a special liking to the softball star.

"Worth a shot, cmon please." Grace pouted, making the Windsor girl crack as she nodded in defeat, pulling out her phone. "You text Tati, Bry, and Avery, I'll text the others." Grace nodding to Reese's word followed her actions, texting their teammates.

Reese laughed lightly as she read the messages, not taking them seriously as they all always joke that Kates got a huge crush on the softball player, but Reese knows its all just fun and games. "So?" Grace asked. "They'll meet us at our apartment after practice, Kylie is coming too."

"Aw I love Kylie yay!" Grace clapped, collecting all her things, Reese followed and shoved everything in her bag before slinging it over her shoulder, both girls stepping out into the crisp October air.

Once arriving back at their place, Reese hopped in the shower quickly, wanting to feel clean since she went to the gym this morning.

As she massaged the shampoo into her scalp, her mind wandered to the blonde basketball player. Her and Kate had gotten incredibly close, their personalities clicking instantly. Just one smile from the Martin girl brightened her day, Kate having that effect on people. Reese wondered how she ended up deserving a friend like her, someone who cared so deeply, someone whose laugh made all your worries go away.

Before she could travel farther into her mind, the water randomly heating up and burning her skin made the brunette jump away from the faucet, reaching and turning the nob to steady the temperature again.

She finished up and wrapped a towel around her body and hair, crossing through the living room to get to her room. "What are you wearing?" Reese yelled out to Grace.

"My uggs, black jeans and a knitted white sweater!" Grace yelled back, her voice muffled by the closed door. "Okay!" Reese rummaged through her closet, finding an orange knitted sweater, pairing it with blue jeans and her birkenstock bostons. She heard a knock at the door and internally screamed because she hadn't finished getting ready.

"Ill get it." Grace yelled again, opening the door and the tall basketball girls filing in, they had all gone back and changed already. "You two ready?" Caitlins asked. "I am, Reese isnt, and the others should be here soon." To which all the girls nodded, sprawling on the couch.

Reese heard her door creak open, Kate's head poking in. "Hi Kate." She giggled before turning back to the mirror in front of her. "Can I watch?" She asked, a hopeful glint in her eyes, Reese nodded and Kate shut the door behind her before jumping on the bed and sitting crisscrossed as she watched the Windsor girl slick back her hair into a ponytail.

"How'd you do that so easily? I always have to fight my hair for atleast fifteen minutes." Kate gasped. "Well its still damp, and I have a slick back brush which helps a lot." Reese shrugged, parting her hair into three strands. "Can I braid it?" Kate's voice was barely above a whisper, seeming afraid to ask. "Of course you can." Reese smiled, making Kate's face light up and she walked over to the brunette who sat at her desk.

She started putting on her makeup as Kate fiddled with her hair. "Are you going to braid it or just play with it?" Reese laughed as she saw Kate's face in the mirror, her bottom lip in her teeth as she focused. "Both, your hair is so soft. But- sorry, I'll braid it." Kate's shoulders slumped and she sectioned her long hair again, crossing it over each other until the braid was finished. "Thank you Martin." Reese spun around, lightly kissing the blonde's cheek, leaving her frozen.

Kate's stomach was in knots, Reese's love language had always been touch, and it was obvious in the way she behaved with her friends. Arms interlocked as they walked, head on their laps on the couch, hugs every time they saw one another, but a kiss on the cheek was one Kate hadn't seen or experienced yet, making her go bonkers.

"You okay?" Reese asked curiously as she applied her lipgloss. "Huh? Oh, yeah, yeah i'm good." Kate snapped out of her trance, sitting back down on the bed.

Reese sprayed her setting spray and got up from her chair, fanning her face before flashing her pearly whites. "Okay! Im good." She smiled and Kate returned it, sitting up and following the 5'6 girl out of her room.

"Ayee." "Okay mama!" "Damn girl." And many other compliments were fired as Reese walked out, Kate close behind her. "Thank you, thank you. Braid by Miss Martin." She spun around and 'hair flipped' her ponytail while Kate laughed and took a bow.

"Just in time, the others should be here in a couple minutes." Grace said after checking her phone, Reese nodded and wandered into the kitchen, grabbing her iced coffee and pouring it into a clear cup, with ice and some caramel, before sticking a straw in it and screwing on the cap. "Ew, boxed iced coffee?" Kate grimaced, her brows furrowed. "Don't knock it till you try it, it's good as fuck, caramel macchiato. Here, have a sip." Reese unattached her lips fromย the straw before tilting to towards Kates mouth.

"Im more of a matcha kind of girl." She dismissed. "Cmon, please." Reese pouted and Kate crumbled, taking a sip. "Not bad, but not my style." Reese shrugged. "Worth a shot." Before grabbing the blondes hand and pulling her back into the living room. Kate was in blue jeans, a grey hoodie and black puffer vest thrown overtop, the chain around her neck poking out underneath. Reese couldn't deny the blonde looked really fucking good.

Tatianna, Brylee, and Avery all walked through the door, saying hello to everyone. "Hi babes." Reese smiled brightly as she gave all three a hug, before turning to the group behind her. "Yall ready to go?" To which everyone nodded, Kate, Caitlin and Jada would be in Kates car, Gabbie and Kylie in Gabbies, and then Grace and Reese in Graces, Tatianna, Brylee and Avery in Tatiannas.

Once they got to the pumpkin patch about 25 minutes away, they all piled out and began walking around, separating into groups. Reese ended up with Kate, Caitlin, and Avery. "Oh my god this one's perfect, it's small and cute!" Avery picked up a round pumpkin, showing it off. "Ooou yes, you should totally get that one." Reese nodded, the other two agreeing.

"How was practice?" Reese turned and asked Kate, who was walking beside her as she looked at the various pumpkins on the ground. "Pretty good, Bluder let us shoot around for a while and then some cardio." The blonde shrugged, taking a glance at Avery and Caitlin who had gone a different direction, Caitlin spotting a huge pumpkin she wanted to look at.

"Thats good! I am so gonna die at our first practice back, it isnt until after winter break so like- not close at all but still." Reese laughed, bumping her shoulder into the taller girl next to her. Kate laughed with her, her eyes locking with the brunettes.

Reese suddenly gasped, running away and jumping over a few pumpkins, quickly crouching down and grabbing one before holding it up. "Look!" Reese yelled excitedly, Kate's heart warmed at the sight, a smile forming on her lips. "It's perfect." She said as Reese came closer. "Now to find you one just as good as mine. Im pretty professional at this, so I'll find you one deserving to be carved by the Kate Martin." The shorter girl beamed.

After about 15 minutes, everyone met up at the front where they'd pay for their pumpkins, Reese and Kate being there last. "Finally, ive had my pumpkin for like 20 minutes bro." Brylee rolled her eyes. "I wanted to find the perfect pumpkin for Kate, not any lame one, sorry miss girl." Which caused the basketball girls to eye Kate and wiggle their eyebrows suggestively, making the blonde glare at them all.

They all paid for their pumpkins and headed to grab a quick dinner before the haunted corn maze, the girls piling into a big booth/table at Applebees, Kates pick.

Reese was in between Kate and Grace, Caitlin next to Kate and Jada and Gabbie next go her, Tatianna, Avery, Brylee and Kylie all in chairs on the other side. "What are you going to get?" Reese asked Kate as she scanned the menu, noticing how Kate hadn't even picked hers up. "The Classic bacon cheeseburger and fries, Its what I get every time." Kate smiled.

"Okay so you're a regular at Applebees is what I'm hearing." Reese snorted at the thought. "Dont be a hater." Kate crossed her arms and looked away, making Reese apologize and poke at her. Kate couldnt hold her grudge for long, her eyes meeting Reeses caused her to fold. "What are you getting?" Kate asked.

"Chicken Alfredo and a Sprite." She shut her menu, leaning forward onto the table as she spoke with Brylee and Tatianna.

"Bro, if you stare at her any longer you're going to burn holes in the back of the girls head." Caitlin whispered into Kates ear, making her look away from Reese. "Shut up." "Im just sayin, you are so obvious." Caitlin laughed at her best friend, making the two bicker back and forth.

Everyone ordered their food, and ate in comfortable silence, a few conversations here and there. Reese kept stealing fries from Kate after she got bored of her pasta, Kate letting her. Caitlins hand grabbed a fry as well, but Kate quickly smacked her away. "Keep your greedy hands to yourself." She squinted her eyes at her. "But Reese is eating them too." Caitlin pouted, getting the softball players attention. "Huh?" She asked.

"Nothing, you're all good." Kate smiled warmly, making the brunette nod and turn back to Grace as she munched on another fry. "You however, could've ordered your own fries fucking big back."

"That is rude!" Caitlin gasped, putting a hand on her heart.
