CHAPTER EIGHT.

KATE CHEERED with her teammates, they had just won 77-70 against Kansas State, when previously when the two teams met, they lost. Also winning the Gulf Coast Showcase. "Let's go!!" Caitlin shook Kate excitedly, both girls laughing and celebrating until they got pulled away with Gabbie for a post game interview.

The team all exhaustedly stepped out of the plane, Kate ended up falling asleep in the passenger seat of Caitlins car, the brunette poking her awake as she groaned. "What?" She mumbled. "We're here." Caitlin laughed at Kate's disheveled state.

Once comfortably in her bed, Kate finally opened her phone, thousands of notifications from social media and imessage's. But the blonde subconsciously only searched for one.

Well its truee

I miss you

Kates heart thumped loudly in her chest, she'd grown quite the attachment to the softball player, and quickly realized she had growing feelings for her. The longer it took Reese to respond, the more stressed Kate got. 20 minutes went by and she laid in her bed, staring up at the roof, she had scared her off, the worst case scenario.

That was until a soft knock came from the front door, Kate furrowed her brows, looking through the peep hole, a smile forming as she saw Reese standing there with a Canes bag. "What are you doing here?" Kate asked, opening the door. "You said you missed me." Reese whispered, wrapping her arms around the taller girl. Kate melted into the hug, their bodies fitting together like two puzzle pieces. Reese's signature vanilla smell seeping into her nose.

"The fucks going on?" Caitlin groaned, rubbing her eyes as she left her room. "Sorry Caitlin." Reese giggled, moving away from Kate, the blonde frowning at the loss of contact, watching as she hugged Caitlin. "I think I brought enough toast for all of us!" Reese chirped, flopping on the couch. Caitlin practically ran at the sound of food, shoving one in her mouth.

Kate shook her head with a grin, joining the two on the couch. Caitlin quickly fell asleep, her loud snores making it difficult for Reese and Kate to keep quiet. "Lets go into my room." Kate whispered in Reeses ear, her warm breath sending shivers down the brunettes spine.

Kate held Reese's hand, lightly guiding her into her room, Iowa posted plastered on the walls, a few pictures hung up with her friends and family. Reese had been in Kate's room before, but never fully looked around. "Is this Carson?" Reese asked, picking up a framed photo of Kate holding a baby. "Yeah, I love him so much." The blonde rested her chin on Reese's shoulder, a warm smile on her face as she looked at her nephew.

"He's adorable." The shorter girl put the picture back on the desk, turning around and leaning on it. Their faces ended up inches apart, Reese's breath hitching in her throat, heat rising to Kate's cheeks.

They stared into each other's eyes, both girls too afraid to move. Ping!

Reese's phone went off, breaking the silence. Kate stepped back as the brunette reached into her back pocket, a text message from KK in the group chat with Paige making her crack a smile. "Who's texting you this late?" Kate asked, sitting on the edge of her bed, curiosity visible on her face. "Uh, KK Arnold actually." Reese laughed, joining Kate.

"Since when were you friends?" The blonde's eyebrows were knit together, her mouth downturned. She knew Reese was popular, smart, beautiful, and amazing at her sport, so it made sense why she had the lesbians of women's college basketball at her feet, but Uconn? "When I posted about TruFru, Paige texted me, turns out shes actually followed me for like- four years. Kind of wild." Reese shrugged, placing her phone on Kate's bedside table and leaning against her headboard. "Oh, cool." Kate said dryly.

"You okay?" Reese asked, confused with the girls behaviour. "Yeah, yeah. Im all good." Kate shook it off, Reese was in her bed, not theirs.

Both girls got under the covers, tangled up in the blankets while Young Sheldon played on the blondes laptop. Reese's soft breathing signalling she'd fallen asleep, she tossed and turned for a bit, until Kate wrapped an arm around her, pulling her in close. Both girls letting out small content sighs, Reese's head on Kates chest.

Reese laughed as the girls continued to text, eventually untangling herself from Kate and grabbing her own phone to scroll TikTok. "What are you doing on Wednesday?" Reese asked, gaining Kate's attention. "Uh, let me check- I have one class at noon buy thats it. Why?" She said after checking her schedule.

"Grace wants to do a friendsgiving since neither of us went home for Thanksgiving, and asked if you and the girls wanted to come- cause you guys had the tournament and stuff." She shrugged. "Im sure they'd love too! But you guys are going to have to make a shit ton of food, 6 foot basketball girls eat like horses." Kate laughed.

"Dont worry, but I should get going, I have class at 3." Reese threw the covers off her, getting out of the bed and putting her uggs on. "Bye Reese." Kate snuck her arms around the brunettes waist, chin resting on her shoulder from behind.

Reese giggled, trying to pull away. "I have to shower and make sure I finished my assignment Martin." Kate groaned and let go, watching as the softball star left the apartment.

Wednesday rolled around, Grace and Reese had decorated the apartment for the occasion, a big pull out table in the middle, food covered the whole thing. "Okay guys! Come eat!" Reese yelled from the kitchen, Gabbie, Kate, and Avery immediately jumped up from the couch, not bothering to turn off MarioCart. Jada, Kylie, and Tatianna came out of Grace's room. Caitlin had been somewhat helping the two, more so eating the buns and watching, so she sauntered over and sat down.

It probably sounded like a rampage for the people below, the girls all fighting over the food while Reese laughed. "Fucking animals." Grace nodded in agreement, Reese between her and Kate.

Everyone began digging in, their eyes widening at the taste. "Holy shit you two!" Jada gasped. "This is heaven." Caitlin hummed, shoving more mashed potatoes in her mouth. "Will you marry me?" Kylie asked, dead serious making the two burst into a fit of laughter.

"It was mostly Reese, I just follow instructions." Grace smiled, making her best friend blush as everyone began complimenting her. "This is amazing Reese, why didn't you mention you can cook?" Kate whispered into her ear. "It never came up, and I'm not some professional. I bet you guys just haven't had a good home cooked meal in forever." She shrugged, a small grin on her face.

"Don't tell my mom, but this is the best thanksgiving dinner I've ever had." Kate smiled, her eyes crinkling. Reese noticed her freckles were extra defined tonight, the candle light hitting her skin perfectly. "Oh, so Im meeting your mother?" She teased, what Reese didn't realize was how on the inside, she was serious. "Mm, maybe you will, Windsor." Kate winked, turning back to her plate, leaving Reese a flustered mess as she sat wide eyed.

The two girls constantly flirted with each other, but they did with most of their friends. But the brunette didn't hear a single tint of teasing in her voice, they seemed genuine.

Jada catching her attention pulled her away from her thoughts, the shortstop deciding she was hallucinating and Kate was just joking.
