๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ is a neologism, a portmanteau if you will. It's a word that's artificially carpentered together by combining Latin roots.
Eccedentesiast (n.)
someone who hides pain behind a smile.
Genesis and Gideon may have been twins, but they both shared extremely noticeable differences.
Genesis was intelligent in terms of history and literature and Gideon was a mathematical genius as well as an excellent scientist. Genie avoided conflict as much as she possibly could whilst Gideon often was the one causing it.
Genesis was able to hide how she felt whilst Gideon wore his heart on his sleeve. So it was no surprise to anyone when after their mother's untimely demise five years prior, Gideon had spent three months sulking around campus, snapping at anyone who dared to look his way.
His female counterpart on the other hand had thrown herself into her studies, joining as many clubs and after school activities as she could. From an outside perspective, you wouldn't even believe she was in any form of grief.
That was because Genesis was an eccedentesiast. In easier terms, she found it easier to mask all her emotions with a smile than to mourn what she had lost.
It had been two years since her mother was given the death penalty and Genesis had failed to cry over her even once. If she was seen frowning once, people would have drowned her in pity in sympathy.
She didn't want that, she preferred to move on in peace.
This is part of the reason she would never tell Melody, Gideon, Olumide, anyone, about what she had discovered.
Miles was in love with someone. Someone who wasn't her.
It wasn't like she had truly believed that Miles would like her back, she just didn't think he would be in love with someone the way she was just with him.
Perhaps it was selfish. No, it was selfish, to want him to never love another whilst she loved him from afar. But she didn't want him to live anyone if it wasn't her.
She felt bad immediately after she admitted it to herself. She wanted Miles to never love another. She was a monster really.
Everyone deserved to feel what it was like to love another human being so dearly that the emotion fills your heart, fills your thoughts, your mind every waking moment. She wanted Miles to be in love. Really she should be happy for him.
But it was so hard.
She placed her lunch tray on the table, a smile painted on her face. Ganke quirked an eyebrow at her. "What's got you so happy? Finally confessed to Miles?" Genie rolled her eyes, sitting down slowly in her chair, smoothing the skirt of her uniform.
"My whole life doesn't revolve around Miles Ganke." Genie snapped, a frown quickly flickered across her face before turning back into a smile. "I'm not letting you ruin my good mood." "Good for you babe." Melody smiled, admiring her reflection in her heart shaped compact mirror. "But why are you in such a good mood?"
"Can't I just be happy to be alive?" Genesis smiled, taking a sip of her water. "Well let me shoot down your joy before you get used to it. We have to go visit Dad today." Gideon, side eyed his twin between bites of his sandwich.
And just like that the joyful demeanor that she had been displaying was crushed. "I don't have to do anything." Genie muttered, pushing her salad around with her fork.
"You don't want to see your father." Melody tilted her head to the side. Genie shook her head. "Not particularly."
Gideon shook his head, swallowing. "Fifth time you've skipped." "Sixth actually." She mumbled, shoveling a forkful of caprese into her mouth.
"Well maybe you could visit him another time." Ganke interjected, finally taking his nose out of his comic book. "Sure he'd love to see you. He won't be around forever you know, this could be the last time you ever see him. Tragedies happen all the time." Melody shot him a disgusted look, "God you're morbid."
"Trust me Ganke. He's not going anywhere anytime soon."
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐.
She had no obligation to, calling him her father was a stretch even, he was hardly a father figure.
She wouldn't visit her mother either, not because she held the same resentment for her that she did her paternal relative but because it would hurt too much.
Her bruised knuckles tapped against the door, four times fast. She bounced on the balls of her feet, waiting patiently for an answer.
A beat passed and the wood door swung open. "Genny, mija, so happy to see you. Miles's in his room." She nodded, removing her boots and making her way towards his room.
"Milllesss." She opens the door, peaking her head into the room. The possibility that Miles was in fact not in his room was extremely high but the universe was on her side that day as there he was, lying on his bed, eyes shut, headphones flashing so loud she could clearly make out the lyrics herself.
"MILES!" "AHH!" He jumped, glancing around the room before locking eyes with Genesis's amused face. "Oh my god Genie don't sneak up on me." She rolled her eyes, plopping down next to him on his bed.
"Sorry I thought you had your little thing." "My what?" "Your sixth sense. Your spidey sense." "Don't call it that." "I don't have to call it anything it clearly doesn't exist."
"What are you doing here? Its the fourth of the month?" Miles asked, taking off his headphones. Genie shrugged, "I don't want to see him." "This is the sixth time you've skipped." Genie smiled, clasping her hands together. "I went as a formality, I owe him nothing now. I've reached closure as Counselor Hernandez likes to call it."
Miles smiled, taking her hand into hers. "I'm proud of you Genie." A simple touch, something she's experienced time and time again. Yet every time, butterflies crept up her throat, threatening to spill out.
"Yeah well don't be too proud. I still can't visit my mom and they're right next to each other." Miles shrugged. "Well that's something we can work." "We?" Miles nodded, his thumb brushed over the back of her hand. "Of course, you don't have to do this alone. I got you Genie, I always will."
He cupped her chin, turning her head to face him. "So whenever you're ready to visit her, just let me know. I'll be with you every step of the way. Okay?"
She was sure he could feel how hot her face was, or sense how her heart beat was speeding up. She nodded, afraid that if she opened her mouth, the butterflies would spill out, emptying the contents of her heart with them.
"Thank you Miles." "For what?" "Being there. Being you." His thumb brushed her cheek. "Of course, what are friends for."
The universe was practically shoving her into his arms and still she couldn't find in herself to say it. Say the words that were sitting on the tip of her tongue.
"Miles I have something to tell you-" "Miles! Genny! Dinner is ready. Come eat it while it's hot."
"Coming! What was it you wanted to tell me." "I'm not sure. So sad. It was just on the tip of my tongue."
๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐,
I'm a fool honestly, was it not days ago you shattered my heart by informing me that your heart belonged to a girl you'll never see again. A girl you know you'll never see again but yearn for her so badly that you are willing to sacrifice your dream of pursuing art to pursue quantum psychics. Just for the possibility that you will see her again.
It's like I'm waiting, for you to stomp on my heart, rip it out of my chest. You're going to hurt me, and I'm going to wait until you do because I don't want to accept that fact you'll never be mine.
I think I wait for people to hurt me. And when they do I feel a certain smugness about being right. And after that it's just pain.
I let my mother hurt me, I let my father hurt me, I'll let anyone hurt me if it means I could be loved even for a second. And you do love me Miles, truly. Just not in the way I love you.
With love and longing,
โ G.S
LOVE SPEAKS!

(shameless self promo but I do have a corio snow book that I'm working on)
Also this book will be short and the twins backstory will be difficult to explain over the course of all 11 chapters so feel free to ask questions here.
