Chapter-10
Author's pov:
Saturday
"Hey."
Hoseok, who was reading a pdf file that contained his notes and having pasta, grunted for being interrupted and looked up to find Tan standing in front of his table, with his hands stuffed into his jeans pocket. All the female eyes in the canteen were on Tan while the guys just focused on eating their lunch, not much bothered by his presence.
"Oh, look who we have here. Mr. Celebrity." Hoseok said, blandly as twirled the pasta in his forks and brought it into his mouth.
Tan rolled his eyes, "Where's your friend?" He asked, ignoring the mockery.
Hoseok arched an eyebrow, 'Friend?' He internally laughed, 'Forgot Jungkook's name again, eh?' He thought.
He suppressed his grin as he feigned innocence and asked, "Friend? Which friend?"
Tan blinked, "Your friend."
Hoseok scoffed as he slightly felt attacked because Tan assumed that he only had one friend, "Hey! I have so many friends. Which one are you talking about?"
It was evident to Tan that he was having fun teasing him for his weakness, but he was being patient as he didn't want to ruin his mood before meeting the guy when actually he wanted to poke his eyes with that fork.
"That guy who is always with you!" He answered with a forced smile lingering on his lips, a smirk made its way towards Hoseok's lips as he leaned forward and mumbled,
"Doesn't he have a name?"
Tan licked his lips and chuckled airily, "I can't believe you forgot the name of your friend who is always by your side. How shameful!" Now it was his turn to smirk as Hoseok shot a glare at him.
"You-"
"Enough. Tell me where he is! I wanna apologize." He said, totally irritated.
Hoseok raised his eyebrows at him, "Oh? That's surprising." Tan stared at him, waiting for him to answer his question. Hoseok laughed and added, "Alright, I will tell you but on one condition."
Tan snorted, "What are we? Kids? Just tell me already!"
"Well, you are. And if you want to know where he is then do what I say."
He rolled his eyes and gave in, "What do you want?"
"Invitation to Dora's pool party, it's on the weekend." Tan arched an eyebrow at him, he wanted to ask why he hadn't got an invitation till now from Dora, she was one of the popular girls and most of them were invited, but he didn't have the time to waste so he just agreed.
"He is in the courtyard near the management block." Hoseok finally told him, Tan smiled at him and was about to walk away when Hoseok yelled, "And it's Jungkook!" The guy laughed and showed him a thumbs up before rushing out of the canteen, while muttering the guy's name under his breath like a mantra, so that he wouldn't forget it later.
•
The cool wind blew past him making his black hair dance in the air, his eyes focused on the picture of his painting that he captured in his mobile before submitting it, as he sat on the bench.
Yesterday as soon as the little birthday party was done, he got this sudden motivation to paint and the only person who was in his mind the whole time was his father. The painting displayed a close-up of a man drowning in the ocean that was in the shades of red, a blue tear running down his eyes, and a lovely smile playing on his lips.
The shades of red symbolized stress and anger and blue was the color of sadness. His dad was drowning in the ocean of stress while he hid his sadness in his eyes as he pretended to be happy.
All these years, Mr. Jeon never failed to show him how happy he was when with him but he failed to conceal the sadness in his eyes, but Jungkook chose to be silent about it. He spent the entire night bringing his imagination into reality.
He was proud of it and so was Hoseok and his sir. He wondered whether he should show this to his dad or not, a part of him didn't want to. He sighed and locked his phone.
"Hey!" Jungkook's eyes widened at the familiar voice, he slowly looked up and there he was, his crush-Kim Tan.
"T-Tan?" He stood up immediately, worry took over his face as he watched him catching his breath.
'He must have run till here.'
"Hey, Jungkook!"
Jungkook looked at him in astonishment, "Did I hear you right?" Tan sheepishly smiled at him.
"I remember your name." He giggled, rubbing the back of his neck as he avoided his gaze.
Jungkook slowly nodded, "Well, I'm honored." He said and asked, "What brings you here?"
Tan locked eyes with him, now this was his chance to apologize and make it up to him. "I'm sorry..." The shorter guy raised an eyebrow at him, "I...I couldn't stop thinking about you, yesterday-" he stopped midway when he found Jungkook freezing on his spot at his words.
"I-I mean, not in that way! I actually...I feel guilty and embarrassed for what happened yesterday. I'm sorry I forgot your name...it's just...hard to remember everyone, you know? I talk to so many people here and I don't remember most of their names. When I saw you upset because of me, I felt bad...I'm sorry, please forgive me?" Tan pleaded, showing his puppy eyes unintentionally. Jungkook's heart melted, how could he not forgive this little puppy in front of him.
"It's fine, don't worry." Jungkook quickly told him, waving his hands in front of him indicating that it wasn't a big deal.
Tan smiled at him but then nervousness engulfed him as he stuttered, "I...uh..a-actually..." Jungkook frowned as he waited for him to continue, "C-Can we be friends?" He stammered, clutching onto his palms tightly.
Jungkook's breath hitched and he was suddenly reminded of yesterday and for a moment he could see Jaemin in front of him, stuttering as he asked him to be friends with him. He gulped and blinked profusely trying to brush him off of his mind.
"Jungkook?"
"Huh? Yes! Tan, yes! Of course, we can be friends!" Jungkook nervously laughed at him, holding his hands as they shook hands.
Tan giggled at him and heard a long bell behind them, it was time for their afternoon class. Jungkook pouted, he wanted to spend more time with him.
"Hey, would you like to hang out with me after the classes?" Tan asked him with a bright smile.
•
"I can't believe we are hanging out!" Jungkook exclaimed, his cheeks flushing as he clasped his palms together.
It was around 4pm when they were dismissed for the day and the two bid goodbye to Hoseok, who dropped them off in the city in his car as Jungkook asked his chauffeur to pick him up later and Tan is usually picked up by his brother's driver who comes only when he asks him to.
"Why is it so hard to believe?" Tan asked him as they walked down the street, heading to the cafe of Jungkook's choice as Tan was taking him out to make it up to him as well as to celebrate their first day as friends.
Jungkook chuckled nervously, "You talk to many, but hangout with few...I guess, I'm lucky that you chose to hangout with me." he uttered, softly.
Tan laughed at his answer, "Well, I only hangout with my best friends and there's only four of them."
Jungkook frowned and looked up at him with questioning eyes, "But I'm not your best friend..." He trailed off.
Tan shrugged with a cute smile, "Maybe, I want you to be one." The younger blushed at his words as he covered his cheeks, he was thankful that Tan was not looking at him otherwise it would be so embarrassing, he couldn't stop smiling so widely.
They reached the café, a fancy one. The warm smell of cookies and coffees wafted out from the cafe that looked too pink and everywhere you saw you would find artificial flowers, on the wall, the ceiling and more. They ordered a cappuccino and a latte and sat across from each other at the center of the room. The cute interior of the cafe made Jungkook feel like he was in the embrace of nature, it made him happy. And guess who made him happier?
Kim Tan.
"So, tell me about yourself, Jungkook."
The said boy sipped his latte and hummed at the taste, "I love painting!" He said, proudly, which showed Tan how much he loved it.
"Wow! Really? Do you have any paintings that I can see now?" He asked, jutting his chin towards his phone that laid on the table. Jungkook nodded and excitedly opened his gallery, now he badly wanted to show the latest painting. He turned the phone towards Tan and watched him scan the art, his eyes growing bigger in awe.
"Oh my god! Please, tell me you did this! This is so amazing!" He said, enthusiastically. He couldn't believe his eyes, the painting looked too good to be true, the colors, the man and the eyes especially! They were breathtaking.
"Of course, I did it! You can see my name at the bottom of the canvas." Jungkook said, giggling. He was happy that his crush loved his work, he couldn't be more proud of himself.
"You are truly talented, Jungkook!" The boy giggled at his compliment and kept his phone aside as Tan asked him, "What else do you like?"
"I play guitar, I can sing and I also love riding bikes."
Tan showed him his fist, "Even I love riding bikes." that brought a smile on his face and the two fist bumped each other.
"I would love it if you sang for me sometime." Tan said, shyly. He wasn't sure whether Jungkook would agree or not.
The latter was a blushing mess, he couldn't believe his crush just asked him to sing for him. How could he say no to that?
"Of course, I will." He muttered, smiling shyly and then asked, "What about you? Apart from football, what do you like?"
Tan's eyes lit up as if he was waiting for this question and he was, a grin plastered on his lips as he replied, "I love playing video games!" He almost yelled proudly and added, "You know we have a game room at home and I spend at least two hours there during weekdays and almost ten hours during holidays. I just love playing games and competing with others! There's this game called Resident evil and it's so addicting! Oh, and racing games are on a next level, even my two brothers play with me and it's so satisfying to beat them!"
Jungkook found him cute as he talked more about his games. It wasn't boring at all to hear him ramble about his games and how well he set up his game room with purple lights and other unique furniture.
"I- hehe, I'm sorry. I must be boring you, right now." Tan chuckled awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Jungkook shook his head with a smile, "No, not at all." He said and added, "So you have brothers?"
"Yes, two brothers. I'm the youngest," He giggled and asked about him. When Jungkook told him he was an only child, Tan couldn't help but feel bad for him. The fun and fights with siblings and that strong bond between them was one of the most loveliest bonds.
"Oh, Tan! You know, you should try the chocolate pastries here. I love them!" Jungkook suggested, as they both finished their drinks.
"You love them? Then, it's worth trying." Tan uttered with a chuckle and ordered two chocolate pastries for them. Jungkook couldn't help but smile all the time, his cheeks were heating up. He never wanted this day to end, wishing they could have these moments often. But what if he forgot his name again? That would make him upset and avoid him for a while. So he made sure not to have high hopes of being friends with him and going out.
•
"Ready?"
"I am!" Jungkook exclaimed as they stood before the basketball gaming machine, ready to compete against each other. Despite Tan being the champion in sports, Jungkook was sure that he would win this game. Arcade games were definitely his cup of tea and he was surely not letting anyone-be it his crush, steal his spotlight.
After they were done having some pastries while they talked more about their hobbies, likes and dislikes, they moved on to play arcade games in the nearby mall. The mall which Jungkook liked, was not that far from the cafe so Tan suggested they walk. Jungkook was so happy that no words could describe it. His constant blushing was visible to everyone but Tan, maybe he noticed it but brushed it off thinking that it was their first time together and Jungkook was probably shy.
"Three, two, one. And go!" Tan declared and the two started grabbing the balls and throwing it towards the net, one after another. There were four rounds and both of them aimed to score more than the other in the time limit.
They had a close competition, both of them having the same score and speed. Tan was surprised that Jungkook could play so well even though he was not in the sports club, he was impressive, he had won two rounds and while he only won once.
"Get ready to lose, Tan!" Jungkook shouted, as he decided to pick up his pace at the last round. All that time playing this game with Hoseok came in handy today, he won back then and was going to win today as well.
"I dare you to defeat me!" Tan challenged, in the back of his head, he somehow knew he would lose again and that was right, he was proven right by Jungkook. Jungkook won the final round with the highest score and screamed in happiness, doing his cute victory dance making his crush laugh.
"Congratulations." Tan rolled his eyes, patting his back. Jungkook laughed and teased him about his loss but Tan shut him up by grabbing his wrist and dragging him to the next game, he chose a game that he was good at. Video games. And he successfully defeated Jungkook, now teasing him for his loss.
The two took turns in playing their favorite games, defeating each other numerous times. Tan even took him to some cute stores in the shopping mall, bought him some expensive chocolates and a teddy bear using Jimin's black card, of course, which Jungkook had no clue of.
"Wow! That was fun!" Tan exclaimed happily as the two stepped out of the elevator and headed to the lobby with a biggest smile decorating their lips and their eyes sparkling like never before as if the two had found their favorite things after struggling to get it for a long time.
Jungkook giggled, "Yes! I hadn't come here for so long. Thank you for taking me here, I missed this place." He uttered with a soft voice, he looked so adorable as he smiled showing off his bunny teeth and Tan swore on his sandwiches, Jungkook looked like a baby.
'Aww, he is cute!'
"You are cute, Jungkook."
And that was it, that was all it took for him to blush all over again. He shyly looked down at his feet as he fiddled with his fingers and muttered, "Thank you." His name sounded so heavenly when Tan called him.
"Tan? I hope you never forget my name again." Jungkook sternly said, with furrowed eyebrows making him look cuter.
Tan showed him a sheepish smile as he nervously chuckled, "I'm sorry about that. A-And, I promise I will never forget your name! You will be one of my close friends from now on, obviously I can never forget you." He promised, sweetly as they sat on the couch in the lobby.
Somehow those words hit Jungkook badly, he wondered if he would always stay as a friend to Tan but he was also excited to be his friend as he remembered the romance troops-friends to lovers, oh he loved that! He was expecting so much at this moment just on the basis of one day of hanging out with him, but now he cared least about it.
"Oh, how are you going back home by the way?" Tan asked, stuffing his hands inside his jacket as his eyes wandered around the beautifully lit lobby with a minimalist decoration all over.
"Yeah, my Dad's gonna pick me up," he said and looked at the time in his watch, "He should be off from work now."
"What does your dad do?"
"He is the CEO of BS&T agency, an advertising agency." He replied, with a proud smile lingering on his lips.
"BS&T agency?" Tan knitted his eyebrows, he had heard the name somewhere. He probably had heard it from Taehyung months back, he clicked his finger and shot him an excited look, "Hey! That agency advertises our company products!"
Jungkook's eyes widened, he knew that Tan was rich and his family ran a famous company but he didn't know anything much about it, he was only concerned with what Tan wore and liked. Now, that was embarrassing.
"Really? Which company? I'm sorry, I must have forgotten its name." He lied, he didn't want Tan to know that he knew nothing about the famous company, and how the company was one of their clients. He was embarrassed to admit the truth.
"Elysian group! My brother runs it." Tan answered him enthusiastically, the thought of flexing his brothers to the world made him happy and proud. They were his role models and his favorite people.
"Uhm...wait, I know his name...Taehyung?" Jungkook stuttered, as he tried to remember his name. He had seen him once long back, when he came to pick Tan after classes, but he couldn't see him properly. Now Jungkook wished, he had watched the news and read newspapers or even talked about business with his dad so that at least he knew the company name and what they worked on.
"That's my older brother, not him though. The one who runs the company is actually my cousin, but I consider him as no less than a sibling. His name is Jimin." Tan explained, the love in his eyes for Jimin was infinite. He loved him so much, the bond with Jimin was cute, funny and very strong.
And the name rang a bell in Jungkook's mind, he had heard the name a lot back at home. Not only the name, the good qualities, the proud achievements and what not! Now who was treasuring him so much? Well, none other than his own father. He had no idea why his father liked this Jimin guy so much, but he guessed that Jimin must be a smart and good businessman. Which had least interest in.
"Oh, that's your brother! I have heard a lot about him, my dad keeps talking about him! I would love to meet him one day." Jungkook laughed, and Tan joined in. It was yet again a proud moment for him, his brother had a really good image out there and everyone cherished him so much.
"Tan, my Dad is here." He announced as he got a call from the man. The two stood up and had a friendly hug before they parted.
"Thank you so much for today! I really had a lot of fun! And thank you for this!" Jungkook pointed at the little shopping bag with chocolates and a teddy bear.
"It's my pleasure. Let's hangout more!" Tan said, waving at him.
"I would love to, bye!"
"Take care!"
•
The upbeat music blasted within the car as it took a turn around the street, the owner inside filled the car with his mellifluous voice as he sang along to the song while bobbing his head side to side to match the beats.
"God is a woman~" Jimin harmonized with Arianna Grande, he changed the gear into third and sped off towards the mall where Tan was present, unaware of Jungkook being there with him. Taehyung had told him that their little brother was on a so-called date with someone named Jungsoon.
His phone chimed, he lowered the volume of the song and picked up his phone. He found a notification from Tan asking him where he was, he responded to him, promising he would be there in ten minutes. Indulged in his phone, he failed to notice a young lady crossing the road. When he looked up for a brief moment, his eyes widened at the sight of the lady looking at his car in horror, he was nearing her at speed.
He panicked and threw his phone as he pressed a quick brake, his body lunging forward and he ended up hitting his chin on the steering wheel. The lady just stood there with her hands covering her ears and her eyes shut tightly as if that was going to save her. Jimin's breathing got ragged as he focused on the woman while rubbing his aching chin, he got out of the car in a hurry, ignoring the cars behind honking at him.
He rushed to her with a guilty look, "Miss, are you alright?" His soft yet panicked tone made her open her eyes slowly and look at the car that was just inches away from her and then scrutinized herself, she sighed in relief upon finding herself in a good condition.
"I'm so sorry, I lost my focus. I'm really sorry!" Jimin apologized to her, bowing twice. The lady got flattered at the gesture from a handsome young man, she smiled nervously, still in shock about the incident.
"I-Its o-okay, I'm f-fine." She stuttered, Jimin stood straight and he ran his fingers through his silver hair with a tensed expression. He had almost killed her.
"I'm glad that you are fine and I'm sorry again." He apologized with pleading eyes, he could see her staring at him from head to toe but not in a bad way but as if she was trying to recognize him. Of course, he was the CEO of Elysian Group, his face was everywhere in the magazines, newspapers and all.
He felt awkward standing there, he cleared his throat bringing her attention towards him and he smiled at her.
"I will take my leave now. Take care, miss." He said, bowing again and quietly went back to his car. The lady bowed back and crossed the road as she was still stuck in her thoughts, she had seen him somewhere. But where? Who was he?
As she walked on the footpath within the crowd, she visibly gasped and shrieked, "Oh my god! That was Park Jimin!" The people around gave her weird looks as they passed by.
On the other side, Jimin sighed and hit his forehead. He was so stupid for using his phone while driving, he took a sharp turn to the right and reached the mall in a minute. He slowly drove the car ahead and parked it in front of a blue car. His eyes scanned the inside of his car, looking for his phone that God knows where he threw earlier. He turned on the lights and found it on the floor near the passenger seat, he bent forward to grab it.
"Argh!" He groaned and pulled it up with him, he heaved out a sigh and upon looking up, his eyes fell on the guy he least expected to see. He froze for some reason, Jungkook was walking out of the mall with a bag in his hand. Even under the few lights, he looked so ethereal that Jimin forgot to breathe. He watched as the student got into the car that was ahead of the blue car in front of him.
'I wish he saw me.'
He thought and exhaled as soon as the car sped off, he bit his plump lips and looked down. Everything that happened yesterday and what Falynn and Taehyung had told him flooded his mind. He sighed and a knock on the opposite window startled him.
He looked out to find Tan smiling widely at him, which softened his heart as he smiled back. He unlocked the car and let him in.
"Hey, champ!"
"Hyung!" Tan exclaimed in happiness, hugging his brother tightly.
Jimin laughed, "Your happiness is on the peak." He said and heard him giggle, brushing Jungkook off of his mind, he turned on the ignition and carefully moved out the car while Tan connected his phone to the stereo, ready to jam to the songs with his favorite person.
Once they were out on the main road, Jimin glanced at him and smiled, looking at the happiness on his little brother's face.
"Had a fun day with Jungsoon, huh?" He asked, grinning.
Tan's brows twitched at the name and he let out a nervous chuckle, humming at him, "Y-Yeah, I had a lot of fun! It's good to be around him." He answered.
His mind making up worst case scenarios, what if Jimin had decided to look for him in the lobby of the mall and met Jungkook, worse would be when he would call him Jungsoon and there, Tan would be fucked up. He was glad, nothing like that happened. But he was also worried that it might happen someday, he had to make sure to tell his brothers but it was embarrassing.
"What did you guys do?" Jimin's question brought him back to reality and he unintentionally stammered for a moment.
"I...uh...we first went to a cafe that he liked. Then we came here, to the mall, and we played games. Oh and, I also bought him a teddy bear and some chocolates-"
"A teddy bear!?" Jimin exclaimed, looking at him with wide eyes. Again, it was hard for him to believe that it was not a date, Tan had gone all out for this new friend.
"What's wrong with a teddy bear?"
"Are you sure it wasn't a date?"
Jimin's question had him rolling his eyes, he wondered why his brothers thought of it as a date! What was so romantic about getting someone some chocolates and a teddy bear?
"I assure you, it wasn't." Jimin narrowed his blue eyes at him, still not convinced of his words.
"Yeah, I believe ya!"
•
"We are back." Tan tried to yell but it came out as a groan as he stepped into the living room but his mind was too messed up and he drained up all his energy trying to suppress himself from telling out the truth that it was Jungkook and not Jungsoon, Jimin wouldn't stop teasing about the guy.
Taehyung appeared straight out of the kitchen wearing an apron, "Welcome to Elysian Villa, Sir Kim Tan. How may I assist you today?" He asked, politely with a small smile pasted on his lips. Tan stared at him, politeness didn't suit his brother at all, not even an inch.
He cleared his throat and played along anyway, "May I know since when Mr. Park Jimin was so annoying?"
Taehyung was caught off-guard, this was everything he had not expected to hear today-scratch it, anyday, especially from Tan who admired him so much.
"He has been since forever." He replied, shrugging.
"Hey!" Jimin walked in, his blazer on his arms as he spun the car keys on his finger and then placed it on the cabinet.
"Your number one fan finally found one reason to dislike you." Taehyung said, smirking.
Jimin arched an eyebrow and glanced between the siblings, "What?" he questioned, unaware of the topic.
"You are annoying." both of them deadpanned at him as they headed to the kitchen, leaving a wide mouthed Jimin behind. He couldn't say anything as he was still confused about the situation, what was even going on? What did he miss? And of course, the answers were in the kitchen.
He followed them quickly and caught Tan sitting on the counter stool while Taehyung cooked something that he couldn't figure out, let's just say, Taehyung wasn't that good when it came to cooking yet they would survive somehow in the absence of Aunt Laura.
"What was that about? I'm not annoying!" Jimin yelled as he entered and sat opposite the youngest, sharing a look between them.
"Oh god, hyung. You sounded like a broken radio the whole ride!" Tan cried and added, "Hyung! Can you be quick? I need food to calm down." He said, looking at Taehyung's way, who gave him a thumbs up.
Jimin rolled his eyes, "Hey! I was just asking about Jungsoon! What's so annoying about it?" He argued.
Taehyung's ears perked up at the name that had completely slipped out of his mind. He lowered the flame of the stove as he questioned his little brother, "Right, how did it go with Jungsoon?"
Tan felt as if his mind was going to blow off anytime now, if someone mentioned the name once more, he would definitely cry.
"Tae. Our little Tan brought Jungsoon some chocis and a teddy bear, isn't that cute?" Jimin teased, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
Taehyung's eyes dilated as he spun around with a shocked expression, "What? Was it a date or what?" He squealed and walked towards his younger brother, shaking his shoulders rapidly.
"You went on a date with Jungsoon? Bastard, you lied to me last night! He is not your friend!" He laughed along with Jimin, who was wiggling his brows at him. Tan felt dizzy, what the fuck was his brother even doing to him? The world was spinning around him, he shrieked and pushed his brother's hands away.
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Stwaauup!" He yelled with his arms swaying in the air in a funny way and the last word came out gibberish, making them stop and stare at him as if they had suddenly encountered a spider in a corner of the room.
"His name is not Jungsoon!" He blurted out and earned surprised looks from them, a sigh escaped his lips as he fisted his hair and said, "He is Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook."
"What?" Taehyung asked while Jimin, just froze.
"Yeah..." He trailed off, feeling guilty for lying to his brothers. He met his gaze and found him waiting for his explanation, he sighed once again and answered his unasked question, "You know how easily I forget names, right? Yesterday when you asked me his name, I had forgotten it again. I was embarrassed and I knew you would make fun of me, so I pretended like I remembered his name." He pouted.
"And it wasn't a date! What's so romantic about getting someone a teddy bear and chocolates? And I'm straight!" Tan expressed, oblivious to Jimin being deaf ever since he heard Jungkook's name, he was busy with his own flooding thoughts.
Taehyung kind of felt bad and patted his head, "I'm sorry..." He muttered as he hugged him and the younger one smiled widely at him.
Taehyung looked at Jimin, who looked to him like he was in deep thoughts. He frowned but that soon vanished when he realized who Tan was talking about, he watched as Jimin abruptly stood up and left the kitchen without uttering a word, leaving them surprised.
"What happened to him?" Tan quizzed, worriedly as he looked up at his brother with doe eyes.
Taehyung sighed and replied, "Maybe, he got a call." He smiled a little, "Let me serve you food."
Jimin felt uneasy but he had no idea why. The moment his eyes fell on Jungkook today, he should have guessed that Tan and him were together, after all, they went to the same university and Jungkook even has a crush on him. His jaw clenched as he remembered Tan talking about the chocolates and teddy bear he had gifted him, it made him jealous. But why?
