Nicky carefully held the small bouquet of flowers so that it would not fly out of her hands with the strong wind that blew.
Every step taking her closer to her parents' headstones.
Stopping in front of it, she removed the already wilted flowers and in their place I put the new ones. More colorful and fragrant.
"Hi Dad. Hi Mom" sighed sitting on the floor "It's been a while since the last time I came to talk to you guys. I know. No, the two Hardheads still haven't made up. They don't even speak to each other anymore. Went in opposite directions"
For some people it's weird to talk to a named stone. But since she was little, this was the only way she could "talk" to her father. And she did the same to her mother after she lost her too.
She always heard how amazing her father was. But unfortunately never had a chance to meet him. So that was her closest contact with him. And there were things that only he knew. He was the only one who heard her deepest secrets.
After a few minutes 'talking' with them she said goodbye and got up hitting the grass stuck to her pants.
Before she could start the car her phone started ringing.
a picture of Bradley hugging her from behind appearing on screen. Both with big smiles on their faces.
"Is this longing? Is not our call time yet" she laughed putting the key in the ignition turning it. The engine roared loudly through the cemetery.
"I didn't know that I could only talk to you at that time" his voice came out rumble on the other end of the line
"Were you sleeping?" she asked putting on speaker
"uhum. Where are you?"
"On my wat home. I came back last night" she explained "and you?"
"At the airport. Waiting for my next flight"
"I'm sorry what?" if she was driving would have braked
"Don't be mad I didn't tell you. It was last minute"
"What was last minute Brad?"
"I was called back to San Diego"
"They called you too?"
"You're going too?" the two laughed happily knowing they would soon be together again "See little one. It's our destiny not to be far from each other"
"Do you know of anyone else going?"
"No. I didn't keep in touch with anyone" He grumbled. Knowing him well, she knew he was stretchingΒ "and you? Know anything?"
"Not for sure. But I have a few names in mind"
There was a moment of silence when a feminine voice spoke over the airport's loudspeakers.
"its my being called" Bradley sighed
"Send me your flight number before boarding" she asked wanting to be able to watch the rest of his trip "Meet me on Hard Deck?"
"See you there. I love you"
"I love you too" ending the call, Nicky looked out the window at her parents' headstones. Asking herself if wherever they were, they were proud of her. Wishing she had heard the words from her father at least once.
Her phone beeped with two messages. One from Bradley with the information she asked for. The second one from someone she wishes that hadn't pushed her away.
Pete Mitchell. A single message after so long.
'I'm coming home'
