CHRIS HANDED SOME OF THE STAKEΒ devices to April once they reached the school for her to spread around the building. He was showing her how to activate one when Scott and Isaac ran past them. The Lahey boy kept going, but the McCall stood next to them.

"Do you see that?" Argent questioned, staring off into the distance. The Sharpe girl furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, but she followed his gaze to see a small, yellow orb flying past them.

She nodded slowly, confused about what he was trying to point out. It was just a firefly. Nothing special about it that she could tell. "Yeah, it's a firefly. What about it?"

"It's, uh... it's very unusual. The, uh, California fireflies aren't bioluminescent," the man informed them, and she could tell that this was something more than just glowing bugs. When Scott looked confused, he explained, "They don't glow."

"Does that mean something?" the werewolf asked, looking to the hunter man with a worried expression. Chris's face told them that he did not know, but he did not have a good feeling about it either.

They were interrupted before he could answer by a distant howl coming from the other side of the school, near the fields. So, they all hopped in Argent's car, and he slammed on the gas. While he was driving, he grabbed the gun from the passenger's seat.

"April, take this," he ordered, tossing it back to her, and she stared at in in shock and fear. What the hell was she going to do with a gun?Β "Only use it if you absolutely need to. Just take the safety off and fire."

The blonde girl looked to her best friend with wide eyes. He just assured her, "I doubt you're gonna need it. Just in case, you know?"

"Okay," she replied with a nod, looking down at the weapon in her hands. Chris honked the horn loudly as they approached Boyd and who April assumed was Cora standing in front of Isaac who had his claws out, ready to fight.

As the headlights fell on them, they sprinted away and toward the door to the school where Derek was waiting. Once they saw him, they looked to each other before jumping and beginning to climb up the side of the building.Β

"They're not going through the school," Scott pointed out when they climbed out of the vehicle, Chris and April right behind him as they watched the werewolves scale the school. "They're going over it."

The Sharpe girl ran a stressed hand through her hair and groaned, "Oh, this is not good."

"The rear doorsΒ β€” someone has to get them open," Chris told Derek as they all ran over to him. He looked confused almost as confused as April was, wondering what the hell they were doing.

The Hale man did not answer before sprinting off in the direction of the doors that he was talking about so that he could close them. Scott said, "Someone has to drive them inside."

"I'll go," the hunter replied, holding up the taser stick in his hand and letting the electricity crackle.

Isaac shook his head. "No, I'm faster." Then, he sprinted toward the direction that he needed to go to get around the school to meet Cora and Boyd on the other side.

Chris then gestured to the blonde girl. "April, you follow him. No one should be alone at this time of night on a full moon. Scott and I will be waiting for them once their inside."

"Got it," she said, but her voice was a little shaky. She made sure that the gun was still in the back pocket of her jeans before following the Lahey boy even though he was much faster than her.

By the time she reached the back of the school, the doors were closed, and the lock was on them. She breathed out, "How did you do that so fast?"

"I had a little help," he replied, and she furrowed her eyebrows, confused. When he saw her expression, he explained, "Allison was here. She fired a bunch of these blinding arrows, and they ran inside."

"Why is Allison here?" she questioned.

He just shrugged simply, signaling that he had no idea, but he did not really care because she helped them. "How should I know?" They fell silent, looking around their surroundings.

"So, do we just wait here for something to happen?" she quizzed, wondering how long they were just going to stand there while there was possibly a fight going on inside.

All of a sudden, a growl caught their attention, and they whipped their heads toward the school. "I think something just did." So, they ran inside the school, using a different door, to see what was up. "Scott?"

"Isaac," April muttered, pausing when she noticed something. He stopped, and looked back at her in question to see what distracted her. She pointed her finger to the window, and he followed it and smiled. "The sun's coming up."

"Scott! The sun's coming up!" the Lahey boy called to the McCall boy, wherever he was. They sprinted toward the boiler room and turned the corner just in time to see him unlock the door and run in.

They saw Derek kneeling on the ground, his shirt all ripped up and his skin covered in scratches. The two betas were lying unconscious on the ground next to him. He panted as he looked up at them, and he breathed out. "There's a teacher.Β I'll take care of her. Get them out of here."

APRIL WAS WALKING TOWARD Chris Argent's car since he had agreed to drive her home. It had been a really long twenty-four hours, and she was ready to go home, climb into bed, and sleep for as long as Ashley would let her. Scott agreed to take the injured betas somewhere safe, probably Derek's apartment.

Because she was so exhausted, she almost audibly groaned when she saw Isaac walking up to her. She knew what he wanted to talk about, and she still wasn't ready. What she was so scared to admit to him and herself was that she enjoyed the kiss. She was happy when it happened, and she even wanted it to happen again. He could never know that, though. She was terrified that he was going to say that it was a mistake. She plastered on a fake smile and greeted, "Hey."

"Hey," he responded, looking down at the ground nervously before his eyes met hers again. "Is it later yet?"

"You know, I don't think I should be the one to explain. You kissed me. I'm the victim here," she rambled, swiftly deflecting the question back to him. She needed him to say his thoughts and feelings first so that she did not look like a total idiot.

Instead of looking shocked or offended, he raised his eyebrows. It was more smug than anything, which really confused and infuriated April. Why was he smug? "Oh, really?"

"Yeah," she confirmed with a nod, wondering if he was trying to trick her into telling him her feelings and thoughts first like she was trying to do to him. She was not going to fall for it, though.

"A victim?" he asked, putting a playfully offended hand over his heart. "My kiss was so bad it was a punishment?"

Her jaw dropped, not sure what to say to that because she wasn't trying to be mean, but she did not want to inflate his ego even more. She pointed an accusing finger at him as she stuttered out, "That...you are putting words in my mouth, Lahey."

"No, I'm not. That's basically what you said," he told her, but he was oversimplifying it. They both knew that. He was just trying to get her all hot and bothered.

She groaned, "But that's not what I meant."

"So, the kiss was good?" he questioned, taking a step toward her as he nodded slowly. She backed up a bit because she knew that if he got too close, she would no longer be in control of her actions.

She could feel her heart beating faster as he got closer, and judging by his smirk, he could hear it as well. Damn it, April. Get it together. "I didn't say that either."

"Then, what are you trying to say?" he quizzed curiously, and she realized that he had successfully turned the tables back on her. She glanced anxiously at her feet.

"You are so infuriating," she muttered, and she was so happy when Chris pulled up to them and cranked the window open, gesturing for her to get in the car before he left her. She turned back to the Lahey boy. "I'm leaving now."

His face held an unreadable expression as he watched her climb into the back of the vehicle. When she looked at him again, he put his smirk back on and waved smugly as they drove away. She just rolled her eyes and smiled at the ground.

At that moment, even Chris could tell that she was falling for him.
