"WHAT'D YOU GUYS HEAR?"ย asked a curious April. She had decided that she didn't want to spend her time in the principal's office and let the boys go for her. When Scott had never returned, she was worried. Stiles came back, however, and informed her that he had a lot of info. He didn't have time to tell her then because he had detention with Mr. Harris.ย
Deciding that she had nothing better to do, and if she was to go home, she would have to walk and she would doing homework anyway, she hung out in detention with Stiles. Mr. Harris liked her for some reason, and he allowed her to have her phone out while she was there since she technically wasn't being punished.
So, there they were, walking quickly out of the school and towards the blue jeep in the parking lot. Stiles, taking a deep breath like he was about to unload a lot, replied, "So, basically, when we were outside the office, we heard my dad talking to Jackson, and we found out that Isaac's dad had been hitting him."
"Oh, my God." The blonde girl's eyes widened, realizing where the bruise he had in the graveyard came from.ย
"And Jackson knew about it and didn't say anything. He said it "
This made April's jaw drop. She knew that Jackson was a jerk, but she never thought he'd stoop that low. I mean, if Danny hung out with him, he couldn't be that horrible. "What an asshole."
"Yeah, apparently Scott left school with Derek to go look at the Laheys' house for any clues or evidence or something," Stiles explained. "Oh, and Allison's grandfather, the old guy from the funeral, is the new principal."
"What?" April exclaimed.ย
Stiles nodded, confirming that what she heard was correct. "Yeah, and he got all up in Scott's business about Allison and stuff. It was like he knew that they were still seeing each other."
"If he knew, Scott would be dead," the blonde pointed out. "So, maybe he's just a creepy person."
"You wanna know the worst part? In my file, it doesn't say that I pay lacrosse," Stiles groaned, and that made April snicker a little bit.
She thought about it for a second before saying, "I mean, technically, you don't play lacrosse. You sit on the bench while your teammates play lacrosse."
"You know what? You can walk home in the dark." The Stilinski boy glared at her before checking his phone to see if Scott texted. "Oh, crap. I have a bunch of missed calls from Allison. Why would Allison be calling me?"
April shrugged, checking her own phone, and her eyes widened. "Oh, my God. Mine was on Do Not Disturb. She called me, too. She kept texting something about a hunting party. That doesn't sound good."
"Hey, sorry, Harris literally just let me out of detention. Literally. And he had my phone the whole frickin' time," Stiles explained when he called the hunter girl back. They had reached the car and were now climbing into it.
He put the phone on speaker, and Allison ordered, "Well, we need to do something right now. They were asking me all these questions about Lydia and how she was bitten by Peter, and then they sent this guy out."
"Wait." Stiles and April froze in their spot. That definitely did not sound good. "What guy?"
"He was dressed as a sheriff's deputy," the Argent girl described, and both the teenagers in the car looked to each other in realization.
"They're sending him to the station for Isaac."
Allison continued in a nervous and worried voice. "He was also carrying this box with something on it, like, um, like a carving or something."
"What was it?" April questioned. Why would a hunter need a box with a carving on it? Also, why did no one at the Sheriff's Station know who worked there and who was a hunter in disguise?ย
"Hold on. Hold on. It's in one of these books," the brunette girl told them. "I'm taking a picture. Did you get it?"
April leaned in so that she could see what the picture was of, and her eyes widened when she did. Normally, she would have no idea what it was, but Stiles had made her study up on werewolf lore when Scott turned. "Wolfsbane."
"What does that mean?" Allison quizzed, confused. Her blonde friend furrowed her eyebrows at that. She thought Chris would have told her what a werewolf's biggest weakness was.
"It means they're gonna kill him."
ใโใ
"Hey, did you slow him down?" Stiles questioned when Allison called them back. She had said that she'd find a way to stop the hunter going to kill Isaac or at least delay him long enough for them to get Isaac out.
Allison responded on the other side of the phone, "You could say that." That made the Sharpe girl wonder what she did to the guy because it didn't sound peaceful.
"All right, well, uh, April and I are headed to the station right now," the boy informed her as they drove. The blonde next to him was holding the phone so that they didn't crash.
The hunter sounded confused when she asked her next question because usually, the McCall boy was with them when he wasn't with her. "Where's Scott?"ย
"Isaac's," April answered.
Now, she sounded more concerned than confused. "Does he have a plan?"
"Yeah, but not a very good one," Stiles told her. "And unfortunately, we don't really have time to come up with anything better." He hung up after that, and both him and April looked up at the bright full moon with worried expressions.ย ย
It was almost at its peak.
Which meant that they needed to hurry. So, while Allison made her way to Isaac's, where Scott was, April and the Stiles did the same to pick up Derek. When they got there, the man glared at the blonde until she climbed into the back seat, which was very rude.
They rode in silence until they were in front of the police station where Stiles explained, "Okay, now the keys to every cell are in a password protected lockbox in my father's office. The problem is getting past the front desk."
"I'll distract her," Derek told them, beginning to open the car door, and April didn't know how to feel about that. Did that mean breaking things distraction or scaring her distraction? The blonde didn't like the sound of either.
"Whoa, whoa, whoaโyou? You're not going in there." Stiles stopped him, grabbing his shoulder to pull him back in the car. When Derek looked back and forth between the boy's face and his hand, he quickly pulled it away. "I'm taking my hand off."
The Hale sighed. "I was exonerated."
"You're still a person of interest," April pointed out, for she had heard Stiles repeat it many a time when Scott tried to defend Derek.
Derek turned to shoot her a look, and she slumped down in her seat a little bit. Damn you, Stiles for turning me into the know-it-all kid.ย "An innocent person."
"Anโyou?" Stiles chuckled out. Derek Hale was most definitely not innocent. That was probably the one of the only things he wasn't along with kind and caring. "Yeah, right. Okay, fine. What's your plan?"
"To distract her," Derek deadpanned.
April rolled her eyes from her seat in the back of the car. She muttered, "No, really? I thought you were gonna walk in there and tell her to watch the door for two teenagers trying to break someone out of jail."
"How are you gonna distract her?" Stiles questioned after shooting a proud smile at her. "By punching her in the face?"
"Heh, by talking to her," the man in the passenger seat scoffed. Oh, my God. Was he gonna flirt with her?ย April thought in surprise. That was something she had to see.ย
Stiles groaned in frustration. Why couldn't Derek ever just give him a more detailed answer. "Okay, all right. Give me a sample. What are you gonna open with? Practice on April. She can tell you if she's distracted or not because she's a girl."
"Nice observation," said girl breathed out, and Derek looked between the two teenagers, saying absolutely nothing and taking an exasperated breath.
"Dead silence," Stiles sighed, "That should work beautifully. April back there is definitely very distracted. Any other ideas?"
Derek hesitated for a moment, acting like he was thinking about it. "I'm thinking about punching you in the face." Stiles looked so offended it that moment that April couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh, please do."
The three of them made their way to the door of the station, and Derek walked in first, the other two lingering in the doorway until it was their time to sneak past the front desk. The deputy running the desk walked out of the office and paused when she saw Derek. "Good evening. How can I help...you?" She hesitated between the last two words when she saw the man's charming smile.
"Hi. Um, I had a question. Um, sorry. I'm a littleโa little thrown," the Hale man flirted, and Stiles and April poked their heads out to see if the coast was clear. The deputy was obviously distracted, so this was their chance. "I wasn't really expecting someone..."
"Like me?" the woman finished his sentence for him when he trailed off and looked her up and down. The two teenagers behind them looked down the hallway before creeping past the two adults.ย
Derek chuckled, "Oh, I was going to say 'so incredibly beautiful' but, yeah. I guess that'd be the same thing."ย Oh, he is smooth, April thought as she watched them. They were past the front desk now, but the girl paused at the doorway.
"What are you doing?" Stiles asked in a whisper when he noticed his blonde friend had stopped moving and took out her camera phone.
April, looking back at him for a moment, answered, "Derek Hale is flirting right in front of us. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I wanna relive it as many times as I can. At the very least, I can use it to blackmail him."
"Oh, good idea," Stiles told her with a fake smile on his face, acting as if she was genuinely doing a smart thing. "If we weren't on a rescue mission to stop a teenage boy from getting brutally murdered with wolfsbane. Let's go."
The two walked swiftly but silently to the sheriff's office, and Stiles made a beeline to the lockbox on the wall. He put in the password, but when he opened it, it was empty. He muttered, "Oh no."
They could hear keys jangling from behind them, so April rushed to the door, Stiles right behind her. After a moment of searching the halls, they turned a corner to discover that the source of the noise was a man in a deputy outfit walking with a limp.
"Uh, just looking, umโ" Stiles stuttered out, then both him and the blonde next to him looked down to see the remains of an arrow stuck in the man's leg. Coming to the realization that that would be Allison's way of slowing someone down, their eyes widened. "Oh, shโ"
The man noticed that they were looking faster than they could get away, so when they tried to run, he grabbed an arm of each teenager and pulled them back. He then moved his hands to wrap around their mouths so that they couldn't yell for help as he dragged them into the part of the jail where the cells were.ย
Fortunately for them, on the way, the fire alarm was in reach. April, struggling against the man's hold, reached out and pulled it. The loud alarm filled the building, and it was sure to let Derek know that something was up.ย
Before that happened, they had bigger things to worry about. The hunter let them go and raised a syringe of what April guessed was wolfsbane. He was about to use it when they all realized that his target was no longer in his cell.
That's when they heard the growl.
Isaac, in his werewolf state, shot from the corner of the room and grabbed the hunter by the neck. They landed on top of a desk, and it seemed like Isaac was winning until the man pushed him back. The werewolf was faster and stronger, though because he threw him against the opposite wall. As they struggled, one to inject the other with venom and the other to keep him from doing so, April pulled Stiles behind one of the desks so they wouldn't get trampled.
Isaac roared as he bent the hunter's arm back, causing the man to yelp in pain and drop the syringe. April winced when she heard a crack until she realized it was from the syringe smashing. Derek's foot was on top of it, and Isaac looked to his Alpha. The hunter slumped down against the wall.
It wasn't very long that the two werewolves were staring at each other because Isaac quickly turned his attention to April and Stiles who were still crouched behind a desk. The two scrambled back, hitting the wall as the boy growled at them.
He didn't have a chance to act on his thoughts because Derek roared at the boy, his eyes turning red. Isaac's demeanor changed from confident and violent to scared in an instant. He crumpled up in a ball against the wall and covered his head. When he peeked out again, the sideburns had retreated, the fangs were gone, and his eyes were back to their normal blue color.
"How did you do that?" Stiles asked Derek, and April scrambled to her feet and made her way over to the scared boy in the corner. She squatted down and offered him a comforting smile as he stared back at her.
Despite the fact that he was about to try and kill her, like, twenty seconds ago, April couldn't help but feel bad for the boy when she looked into his frightened eyes.
Derek, turning his head to look at the Stilinski boy, replied, "I'm the Alpha."
A minute later, once Isaac had calmed down, the Hale left with him and his car, leaving the two humans staring blankly at the unconscious hunter in the corner. It wasn't long before Sheriff Stilinski came to check out the scene. The two around at the state the jail was in and realized that they were in a predicament, so they pointed to the man lying on his back against the wall.
"He did it."
