THERE WAS NOTHING WORSE THAN SPENDINGΒ you lunch in detention. Well, there were a lot of things worse, but it certainly did not feel like that to April at that moment. Harris, the biggest jackass of all of the teacher, was assigning jobs to pairs as she twirled a pencil in between her fingers.
"The two of you will wash all the boards in this hall. Reshelving the library," he informed the first and second pairs what their jobs would be before landing on April and her partner. "Restocking the janitor's closet."
April's eyes widened when she realized that the person in front of her, her partner, was Isaac. This was going to be one awkward interaction between the two of them, especially since she had been dodging his questions. She could not give him the satisfaction of letting him know she liked him if he did not like her back. That would be humiliating.Β
So, they grabbed the boxes in the corner of the room and silently headed to the janitor's closet. As they walked in, leaving the door open, his elbow bumped into her shoulder a bit. He muttered, "Sorry."
"Are you okay?" she questioned when she realized how nervous he was. His voice was a bit shaky and he was glancing at the door constantly as if he was scared they were going to get locked in there.
"Yeah, yeah," he replied with a nod, taking a deep breath as they began to stack boxes of cleaning supplies on the shelves. "I'm just...I'm not a fan of small spaces."
She froze when she remembered that his father had locked him in a freaking freezer, and she cursed herself for not realizing it sooner. After a moment of silence, she asked, "So, uh, how'd you get detention?"
"Those stupid twins somehow convinced Harris that I beat one of them up," he explained, and she could tell that there was more to the study and that he just summarized it for her. "Who was that guy that got you in trouble?"
"Oh, uh, Elijah. He's Ms. Blake's brother, and it wasn't his fault. He didn't know I was skipping," she told him, kind of stumbling through the sentence because did not really want to talk to Isaac of all people about a guy. Not that Elijah was a possible boyfriend because he was not.
He frowned, finally looking at her, and she stopped what she was doing when her eyes met his. He breathed out, "I still don't like him." She realized that their shoulders were touching, and she tensed up a bit when she saw how close he was.
Then, suddenly, the door swung close, interrupting their moment.
Β The lights switched off as well, the emergency light giving the room a red hue. The Lahey boy rushed to the handle and twisted it as he mumbled with a panicked voice, "No, no, no, no."
"Maybe it locked from the outside," the blonde girl suggested, trying to remain calm so that he would. She was getting a little bit worried as well since there was not any breeze or anything to close the door. Realization came to her all of a sudden. The twins.
It was not working because he was still freaking out. He rammed his shoulder into the door, but it still did not budge. "No, there's something up against it. Okay, okay, okay, okay..."
"All right, just relax," she said in the smoothest voice she could as he paced around the room and ran his hands through his hair. "Isaac, relax. It's okay. We're fine. We're fine."
"Come on, come on, come on," he muttered as he knocked frantically on the door. Then, his knocks turned into bangs that were starting to scare April. She backed up a bit just in case he tried to ram the door again.
She repeated the same phrases over and over again. "It's okay, Isaac. Relax. We're safe. It's okay."
"Come on!" he screamed, dragging out the words, and April could tell that he was really terrified. He stopped all of a sudden, breathing heavily, but when he turned his head toward her, his eyes were yellow.
"Isaac, don't. It's me, Isaac. It's me," she assured him, but he was already moving toward her as he growled. Her back hit the metal shelves, and he grabbed her wrist tightly with his claws. "Isaac! Isaac! Isaac!"
All of a sudden, he was thrown off of her and into the hallway. She gasped but calmed down when she saw Scott. He must have heard them and come to her rescue. She rushed to the door and watched as Scott somehow got Isaac to go back to human form by roaring at him, "Isaac!"
"April," the Lahey boy exclaimed as he scrambled back against the wall and panted, looking up at the Sharpe girl with a horrified expression. "Oh, my God, April, I am so sorry. I didn't mean it. I didn't mean to do that."
"It's okay. It wasn't his fault," she informed the McCall boy as he gently held her arm, examining it. There was blood trickling down her forearm and two kind of deep gashes.
Scott looked over to the scared boy who had his face in his hands. "I know. I guess now we know they want to do more than just get you angry. They want to get someone hurt."
"So, are we gonna do something?" the other werewolf questioned with raised eyebrows as he lifted his head to look at them, his eyes trying their hardest not to drift to April's wound.
"Yeah," Scott answered with a small smirk as a plan began to form in his mind. "I'm gonna get them angry. Really angry." Then, he left to do who knows what.
As he walked away, the blonde boy looked up at the girl who was holding her wrist. He let out a shaky breath. "I'm so sorry. That's the second time I've done that. I don't know why you don't hate me."
"I know you didn't mean it either time, and I don't think I could ever hateΒ Β you. Strongly dislike at times maybe, but never hate," she assured him with a playful smile.
"I don't think I could ever hate you either," he responded with a chuckled before gesturing to her arm. "Can I at least help you get that cleaned up?"
"Sure."

SCOTT HAD COME UP WITH A PLANΒ to get Ethan and Aiden as mad as they were making them. They were going to break one of their bikes and steal the other one. April was working on hotwiring the one that they were going to steal while Scott was inside, riling them up.
"How long is this gonna take?" Isaac asked her anxiously. He was keeping watch, and he would also be the one to drive it when it was time. He stared down at the girl who was looking at her phone.
"I am trying to follow instructions that Ashley sent me, and they are not very clear or helpful because there are no pictures. So, I'd appreciate it if you didn't rush me," she answered. She finished doing something before finishing, "Okay, I think I'm done."
She pressed one of the buttons on the top, and the engine started. She smiled excitedly, proud that she had actually done it. Isaac climbed on it quickly before looking up at her. "How does your aunt know so much about motorcycles anyway?"
"She used to work at the auto shop when she was our age, and she dated a lot of guys with bikes," April explained with a shrug before leaning over him to show him what everything did. "Okay, pull back with your left hand. Kick down to put it in gear. Front brake. Throttle. Back brake for stopping."
She was so focused that she did not even notice that her hand was on top of his on the throttle. She looked up, and their noses were almost touching. She froze for a second before leaning back a bit to tell him, "Try not to crash."
"Yeah. Been there, done that," he replied with a small chuckle. She vaguely recalled him telling Derek about him crashing on the motorcycle, and that was why he was in the hospital at the beginning of the year.
She backed up all the way and picked her phone up from off the ground. She held the camera up before taking a picture of Isaac on the motorcycle and sending it to Scott. The McCall boy was going to show it to the twins, setting their plan into action.
Isaac headed off into the school, going the long way to the hallway by Ms. Blake's classroom so that April could run around the short way and join the students like an innocent bystander.Β
She quickly rushed down the hallways just in time to see a crowd forming at one of the turns. She rushed to the side of Scott and Allison, who must've been informed about the plan by Scott. She watched as Isaac joined them and they all looked out at Aiden who was climbing onto his scooter.
Unfortunately for him, Ms. Blake ran into the scene and froze when she saw what was happening. Aiden was on a motorcycle that had been driven into the building.
"You have got to be kidding me," she exclaimed as she walked over to him. He looked like a deer caught in headlights. "You realize this is gonna result in a suspension."
Both Ethan and Aiden's eyes went the the four friends that were trying their hardest to hold in their laughs. Allison held up a hand and waved at them smugly.
April just stuck her tongue out.
