Chapter 38
Weeks passed, and life had settled into a semblance of normalcy. I was at my makeshift cabin, nestled near the ruins of an old S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. The air was calm, with only the sound of rustling leaves and distant birdsong keeping me company.
But then, a chill ran down my spine. Venom stirred uneasily, his low growl vibrating in the back of my mind. Something's wrong, he warned.
I froze, listening intently. Then I heard it—a screech that tore through the stillness like nails on a chalkboard. I bolted to the window, and my heart skipped a beat at the sight before me.
A man in a sleek, green Vulture suit soared through the air, his mechanical wings glinting ominously in the sunlight. I frowned, my pulse quickening. What the hell is he doing here?
Before I could react further, Spider-Man came swinging into view, his webs streaking through the air as he pursued the Vulture. The man let out another shrill screech, a grating sound that made my ears ache.
Venom growled in frustration. Cover your ears! This isn't natural!
But I didn't have time to comply. The Vulture twisted in midair, unleashing a strange sonic device. A deafening blast tore through the cabin's windows, and the glass shattered violently, sending shards flying in every direction.
I screamed as the jagged pieces rained down, glinting like deadly stars. Venom reacted instantly, his tendrils coiling protectively around me. The glass bounced off his protective barrier, but the impact still sent me stumbling back.
Stay low, Venom growled, his voice tight with urgency. He's not here for a friendly chat.
I nodded, shaking off the disorientation. Adrenaline surged through me as I crouched low, assessing the situation. Outside, Spider-Man was still locked in combat with the Vulture, their fight moving dangerously close to the cabin.
Venom's voice rumbled again, darker this time. Let's show him why no one messes with us.
I grinned, despite the chaos. "With pleasure."
Tendrils surged around me as Venom prepared for the fight, his raw energy coiling like a storm ready to be unleashed. It was time to join the fray.
Leaping out of the shattered window, I launched myself at the Vulture with all the strength Venom and I could muster. My kick connected squarely with his chest, sending him hurtling into a tree with a loud crash. Leaves and branches rained down as he groaned in pain, struggling to get back up.
Spider-Man swung around, landing on a nearby branch with a huff. "Shadow! You should really warn me before you join in like that!" he chided, pointing a finger at me as if this were a casual disagreement.
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, a voice—low, feminine, and impossibly strong—rumbled through my mind.
We are not to bow before these humans again, Y/N. Stand tall. Fight it!
The words reverberated through my skull, sharp and commanding, like thunder splitting the sky. I screamed, clutching my head as a searing pain pounded through my temples. It was as if someone was trying to tear my mind apart from the inside.
"Y/N!" Spider-Man called, his voice muffled beneath the storm roaring in my head.
Venom writhed within me, his presence flickering as though he were in agony. This... this isn't right! he growled, his voice strained and weaker than I had ever heard it. Y/N, I—
Venom! I called out desperately, panic bubbling in my chest. What's happening?
He didn't respond, only letting out a guttural snarl that sounded almost... afraid. The foreign voice returned, colder this time, a blade slicing through the haze of my thoughts.
You will rise above, or you will fall beneath. Choose.
My vision blurred as I dropped to my knees, the world spinning around me. Venom's tendrils coiled and uncoiled uncontrollably, lashing out like a wounded animal. I was losing control—of him, of myself, of everything.
Through the chaos, I barely registered Spider-Man landing beside me, his voice frantic. "Shadow! What's going on? Talk to me!"
I could only choke out a single word, my voice trembling with fear and pain.
"Help."
SCENEBREAK
The void around me was vast and endless, a sea of darkness speckled with faint, distant stars. I floated weightlessly, my mind heavy and disoriented, as though I were caught in the deepest part of a dream—or a nightmare.
Then, piercing through the blackness, two glowing eyes appeared. They were massive, a brilliant, burning purple, staring down at me with an intensity that made my soul quiver.
A voice, deep and resonant, echoed around me like the roar of a tempest. "You listened. That's not good. You cannot resist me while I'm bonding with you."
I tried to speak, but my voice was swallowed by the void. My thoughts raced, but I couldn't move, couldn't fight back. Then, from the shadows, Venom's familiar form emerged, his sharp, toothy grin and blazing white eyes a stark contrast to the oppressive darkness.
"Who do you think you are, bitch?" Venom snarled, his voice dripping with venomous anger. He stepped protectively in front of me, tendrils writhing and snapping. "This is my body, my host. You will not take her from me!"
The glowing eyes narrowed, and a cold, condescending laugh echoed in response. "I'm not some symbiote, you parasite." The voice dripped with disdain, each word cutting like a blade. *"I am far beyond your comprehension. I am a goddess. I am—Godzilla."
The name thundered through the void, shaking the very fabric of this dreamlike space. The air grew heavy, suffocating, as an enormous, shadowy figure began to take shape behind the glowing eyes. Its massive form radiated raw, ancient power, scales glinting faintly in the starlight as a deep growl reverberated through the space.
Venom growled, his tendrils lashing out. "I don't care what you call yourself. You're not welcome here!"
I stared at the towering figure, fear and defiance warring within me. "What do you want with me?" I managed to whisper, my voice trembling.
The glowing eyes fixed on me, their intensity almost unbearable. "You, child, have caught my attention. And whether you like it or not, I will claim what is mine."
The glowing eyes flared brighter, their searing intensity overwhelming my senses. A deep, guttural growl rumbled through the void, shaking the very stars around me. Venom snarled, his tendrils snapping wildly, but the towering presence didn't flinch.
Before I could react, the void itself seemed to pulse, and a sharp, blinding purple light pierced through everything. My vision blurred, colors bleeding together into a chaotic swirl. The sound of Venom's roar echoed faintly as I felt myself being pulled, torn away from him, from the space, from reality itself.
And then—nothing.
I was gone again.
