chapter four

THE KNOWLES SISTERS SAT ACROSS from each other, a suffocating awkward silence between them as Laurel stared down at her full cup of (now) cold coffee while Tara's eyes bore a hole in Laurel's face.

Laurel wasn't sure why Tara had showed up at her home this morning, but she wished her younger sister would said what she had to and just leave already.

"So," Tara cleared her throat breaking the silence between them. "Are you still involved with Grumpy?" The younger Knowles questioned, hoping to break the awkwardness between them.

Laurel looked up from her coffee and raised an eyebrow at Tara's question. Did she really care to know or was she just hoping to make the tension between them go away.

"It's Happy." Laurel corrected, taking a sip of her coffee and immediately grimacing when the cold liquid filled her mouth.

"I know." Tara stated matter of factly. "I was just making a joke because he doesn't really seem like a Happy guy." The younger brunette explained, running a hand through her hair.

Laurel had to bite her tongue from saying something sarcastic. "Why are you here, Tara?" Laurel was genuinely curious as to why she was here.

A sigh left Tara's lips at her older sister's question. The two had never been close โ€” even when growing up. Tara wanted to leave Charming as soon as she could and Laurel wanted to stay. They were just two different people that just so happened to share the same DNA.

"I don't know. I guess I thought it was the right thing to do to come and see how you're doing." Tara shrugged.

A bitter laugh left Laurel's lips. This was so like Tara. She didn't really care it was all about keeping appearances.

"Do you really care? I was here dealing with dad for years while you left. You never once offered any help or even just a simple phone call to see how I was doing." Laurel ranted as her blue eyes stared into Tara's with anger in them.

"I shouldn't be blamed for leaving. I saw my chance out and I took it. It's not my fault that you were always fine with being stuck here."

"I don't give a fuck that you left, Tara. I give a fuck that everything was always on me! Do you even remember what it was like to deal with dad? I spent years taking care of him. It shouldn't have been all on me." Laurel pushed the chair back with force from the table, her eyes burning with anger and resentment towards her younger sisters.

Years had passed yet she was still the same old Tara. Always selfish and only caring about herself. Laurel didn't understand how they could be related.

A sigh left Tara's lips as she grabbed her bag from the table and stood up. "I don't have time nor the energy to do this with you right now. I'll let you know when I'm done cleaning dad's place and then we can decide what to do." The younger Knowles sister already knew what she wanted to do with the home, but that would have to wait until Laurel was in a better mood.

Laurel shook her head as she heard the door shut behind Tara. It was times like this where she wished to be an only child. It wasn't that she didn't love Tara, she just didn't like her at all. They would never be close and Laurel was certain after Tara left again they wouldn't talk to each other again.

LAUREL FELT AN EMPTINESS AS SHE laid next to Happy in her bed. She didn't want to call him but after seeing Tara, the older Knowles sister needed some sort of release and that just so happened to be in the form of a grumpy tattooed biker.

She knew that she needed to stop calling him whenever things got too much for her to deal with. She couldn't kept sleeping with him โ€” there were too many feelings involved. At least on her side.

"You feel better?" Happy questioned as he placed a toothpick in between his lips.

He didn't know exactly why Laurel had called him and he wasn't going to ask either. They both had releases that needed to be met and as far as he was concerned he could leave now, yet something kept him there.

A scoff left Laurel lips as she covered her naked body with a blanket. "Yeah Hap, cause fucking you makes everything better." She spoke with sarcasm.

Why could he just see how much she needed to talk to him and why couldn't he just be the person she vented to. It would never be that way though and even thinking of asking Happy for those simple things was too much.

A scowl took over Happy's face as he stared at Laurel with his intense dark eyes. The biker knew the woman next to him was going through some shit but he didn't like her tone. He didn't listen to people's bullshit complaints about life โ€”especially those he fucked. Laurel was getting too close to asking more from him and he couldn't โ€”wouldn'tโ€”do more than they had.

"Just leave Happy." Laurel sighed as she stood up and began to get dressed.

Happy quickly get up from the bed and began dressing again. He didn't need to be told twice.

"You don't have to be a fucking bitch because your sister is back. Try acting like a fucking adult and tell her all your fucking feelings, because I don't wanna hear them and I don't want the fucking attitude." Happy practically growled as he pulled his kutte on.

"Fuck you, Happy. You know absolutely nothing about my feelings or anything. I'm just a fuck to you. I don't want you coming over anymore. I'm done."

For a moment Happy felt something he hadn't felt before when a woman told him she was done with him, but he quickly shrugged it off. They had done this before. Laurel was always emotional and stopped this thing between them, yet they always came back together.

"You're the one who called me." Happy reminded with a smirk before swiftly walking out of the room leaving Laurel alone with her thoughts.
