Chapter 11

You sigh as you walk out of the chamber, the meeting becoming tedious to say the least. Commander Fox gives you a once-over. "Are you hurt?" he asks.

You shake your head. "No, Commander, let's just go back to my chamber. I need sleep," you say, rubbing your eyes.

Fox nods, his expression one of concern. "Understood. It's been a long day. Let's get you back and you can rest." He gestures for you to lead the way, falling into step beside you as you make your way through the corridors.

The walk is quiet, the only sounds the soft thud of your boots and the occasional chirp of a comm unit. You can feel the weariness weighing on you, both physically and mentally. The Jedi's reaction to your mention of the Avengers had been more severe than you'd anticipated, and you couldn't help but wonder what secrets they were hiding.

As you reach the door to your quarters, Fox pauses, his gaze searching your face. "Is there anything else I can do for you, ma'am?" he asks, his voice low and steady.

You offer him a small, tired smile. "No, thank you, Commander. I just need some time to myself." You hesitate, then add, "Though I may need to speak with you again soon. There are... a lot of things I need to think about."

Fox nods, his expression unreadable. "I'll be here, whenever you're ready." With that, he salutes and steps back, allowing you to enter your room in peace.

Once inside, you sink down onto the edge of your bed, a deep sigh escaping your lips. The weight of the day's events weighs heavily on your mind, and you can't help but wonder what the future holds – both for you and for the mysterious planet called Earth.

Later, you're sitting and reading through the files that your assistant retrieved for you when there's a soft knock before the door. You smile. "Anakin, I can feel you. No use hiding behind the door," you say without looking up, taking a sip of your wine.

Anakin sighs, opens the steel door, and slips inside. "Sorry, Master." He shuffles over to where you're seated, his brow creased with worry.

"I heard about your meeting with the Council," he says, his voice low. "They seemed... concerned about your visit to Earth."

You nod, setting down your datapad and turning to face him. "That's an understatement. They're positively alarmed by the idea of these 'Avengers' and what their existence might mean for the Jedi."

Anakin frowns, crossing his arms over his chest. "But you don't think they're a threat, do you?"

You sigh, running a hand through your hair. "No, I don't. From what I saw, the Avengers are a force for good – they protect their world and its people. But the Jedi..." You pause, hesitating.

"The Jedi are wary of anything they don't fully understand," Anakin finishes for you, his expression darkening. "They fear what they can't control."

You nod, a wry smile tugging at your lips. "Precisely. And they see the Avengers as a potential wild card, something that could upset the delicate balance they've maintained for centuries."

Anakin settles onto the edge of your bed, his gaze thoughtful. "So what are you going to do? The Council won't let you go back, not without their approval."

You lean back in your chair, chewing on your lower lip. "I'm not sure. Part of me wants to respect their wishes, to trust in the wisdom of the Council. But..." You trail off, your eyes flickering with determination. "But I can't shake the feeling that I'm meant to be there, Anakin. That there's something on Earth that I need to discover."

Anakin's eyes widen slightly, and he leans forward, placing a hand on your arm. "Be careful, Master. The Council may see that as defiance, as a challenge to their authority."

You nod, your expression somber. "I know. But I can't ignore this pull, this... connection I feel to Earth and the Avengers. There's something there, Anakin, something important. I have to at least try to understand it."

Anakin's brow furrows, but he nods slowly. "Then I'll be here, ready to help however I can. Just... don't do anything reckless, all right?"

You can't help but smile at his concern. "I'll do my best. Thank you, Anakin."

Hours later, you found yourself out in the tranquil gardens of the Jedi Temple, engaged in a spirited lightsaber duel with your sparring partner, the esteemed Jedi Master Plo Koon. The hum of your blades echoed through the air as you traded precise strikes and parries, your movements flowing with a graceful, well-practiced rhythm.

As you disengaged, Plo Koon paused, and you could sense a hint of approval in his tone as he spoke. "You did well at the meeting today, Chancellor," he murmured, his filtered voice betraying a faint note of respect.

You allowed yourself a small, satisfied smile, feeling a sense of accomplishment at earning the Jedi Master's praise. "Thank you, Master Plo," you replied, your own voice tinged with a touch of humility.

Plo Koon then sheathed his lightsaber, and you followed suit, the two of you moving to a nearby bench to rest. A Jedi attendant promptly arrived, offering you a refreshing water bottle, which you gratefully accepted, taking a long, cooling sip.

As you wiped the water from your lips, Plo Koon turned to you, his piercing gaze studying your features intently. "You really want to leave again, don't you?" he asked, his tone carrying a subtle hint of concern.

You paused, considering your words carefully. "I..." you trailed off, your gaze drifting away as a wistful expression crossed your face. "I liked it there, Plo. I wasn't seen as the Chancellor, or as a Jedi – I was seen as an equal." You reached up, gently rubbing the skin of your wrist, as if trying to recapture a forgotten sensation. "I miss my friends. I miss... Bucky."

Plo Koon tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing with a mixture of understanding and unease. "You found someone you love," he observed, his voice tinged with a hint of disapproval. "That is against the Jedi Code."

You let out a heavy sigh, your shoulders sagging ever so slightly. "I'm not a part of the Jedi Order, Plo. I'm a Grey Jedi, not one of your Order, and I'm the Chancellor. So what if I fall in love?" you asked, a subtle defiance underlying your words.

The Jedi Master regarded you with a contemplative expression, clearly weighing the implications of your words. "You make a fair point, Chancellor," he conceded, his voice measured and thoughtful. "As a Grey Jedi, you are not bound by the same strictures as those within the Order." He paused, his gaze searching your face. "And yet, your attachment to this... Bucky, could still prove dangerous, both for you and for the Jedi."

You felt a flicker of frustration cross your features, but you maintained your composure. "I understand your concerns, Plo. But I can't ignore this connection, this pull I feel toward Earth and the Avengers. There's something there that I'm meant to discover, I'm certain of it." You turned to face him, your eyes pleading. "Can't you at least understand that?"

Plo Koon nodded slowly, his expression pensive. "I do understand, child. The ways of the Force are often inscrutable, even to us." He reached out, placing a weathered, clawed hand on your arm in a gesture of reassurance. "But you must tread carefully. The Council's worries are not unfounded, and to defy them openly could have grave consequences."

You sighed, your shoulders slumping slightly as the weight of the situation settled upon you. "I know, Plo. I don't want to cause trouble, but..." You trailed off, your gaze drifting toward the horizon, where the setting sun cast a warm, golden glow. "I feel like I'm being called there, like there's something important I need to discover. And I can't ignore that, no matter how much the Council may disapprove."

Plo Koon studied you for a long moment, his eyes narrowed in deep thought. "Then perhaps," he said, his voice measured and thoughtful, "the wisest course of action is to seek a middle ground. Convince the Council to allow you to return, but under their close supervision and guidance." He raised a hand, forestalling your protest. "I know it is not ideal, but it may be the only way to satisfy both your desires and their concerns."

You paused, considering his words with a pensive expression. A glimmer of hope began to spark in your chest, and you nodded slowly. "I... I suppose that could work. If I can convince them to let me go, but with the proper safeguards in place..." You straightened, a new determination taking hold in your eyes. "Very well, Plo. I'll speak with the Council again, and see if we can reach an agreement."

Plo Koon inclined his head, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "I wish you the best of luck, Chancellor. The Force be with you."

You dipped your head in acknowledgment, the determination in your eyes unwavering as you turned and made your way out of the tranquil garden. The encounter with Master Plo Koon had only reinforced your resolve – you knew, without a doubt, that you would find a way to return to Earth.

As you walked the winding paths of the Jedi Temple, your mind raced with possibilities. The Jedi Council's concerns were valid, you knew, but you couldn't ignore the pull you felt toward that distant world and the Avengers you had met there. There was something important waiting for you, something that the Force seemed to be guiding you toward.

You paused for a moment, your gaze sweeping across the elegant architecture that surrounded you. The Jedi had been your home for so long, their Order a constant in your life. But now, you felt a sense of longing – a yearning for the freedom and camaraderie you had experienced on Earth.

With a determined nod, you resumed your pace, your steps carrying you swiftly through the temple's corridors. You would need to speak with the Council again, to plead your case and convince them to allow you to return. It would not be an easy task, but you were prepared to do whatever it took.

As you walked, your mind drifted to the memory of Doctor Strange, the sorcerer who had opened the portal that had brought you to Earth in the first place. If the Jedi refused to grant you permission, then perhaps he would be willing to assist you once more. The very thought sent a spark of hope flickering to life within your chest.

You knew the road ahead would not be an easy one, but you were resolute in your decision. You would find a way to return to Earth, to reconnect with the Avengers and uncover the mysteries that lingered there. The Force was guiding you, and you had no intention of ignoring its call.

With renewed purpose, you made your way through the temple, your mind already formulating a plan. The Jedi Council would have to listen to reason, and if they did not, you would find another path. Nothing would stop you from answering the summons of the distant world and the people you had come to care for.
