SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
[UNEDITED]

Ava walked into school to Charlotte amid a crowd. "What's wrong, Charlotte?" Ava asked, running over to her. "Ok, I'm fine now," Charlotte said, shooing everyone away.

Everyone walked away from her, confused, while Ava followed Charlotte. "What was that?" Ava asked.

"Thank you,"

"Yep,"

Charlotte and Henry passed each other. "Broken lock?" Ava asked. Henry nodded, "Yep," Ava kneeled under Henry's locker. "You got yesterday's chemistry notes?" Henry asked.

"Yeah," Ava nodded as she tried finding them. Ava's books and papers were stacked up clearly inside. "Found them," Ava raised the notebook. Henry took it, flipping through the pages. "Um... Ava,"

"Yeah?"

"This is your diary..." Henry held up a pink notebook with squiggly writing. "Oh shit..." Ava awkwardly grabbed the notebook from Henry. "Henry! Henry! I am going to kill you," Piper yelled out, walking inside the hallway.

"Hey, you're not supposed to be in the Middle School Hallway,"

"Where's my phone!"

Oliver walked by the sibling duo. "Hey Henry, quick question," Piper screamed, "Get out of here!" Oliver ran off in tears.

"Look, Piper, I don't have your phone, okay?" Henry reassured. "So you don't need toโ€”" Henry searched his pockets, he found Piper's phone.

Piper sent a glare at him. "Oh, I must've picked it up by mistake," Henry said. Piper snatched her phone from Henry fiercely. Piper was walking towards the door until she turned around.

"Dang it!"

"What?" Ava asked, walking to Henry. "You butt dialed Jana Tetrazzini!" Piper yelled. "So?" Henry asked, "I hate Jana Tetrazzini!" Piper screamed.

"Then why do you keep her number in your phone?" Henry asked. Piper shook her head disappointingly. "Because if she calls me, I need to know it's her so I can ignore it!"

"Love you,"

"Who cares!"

"I sometimes forget she's so cute and so scary at the same time," Ava commented. "And those are my friends, Henry, Charlotte, and Ava," Jasper called out their names.

"Hey, man,"

"What's up"

"Whose the cheese ball?"

"This is Ortho; he's new here," Jasper introduced a boy with a giant afro-like hairstyle.

"Ah hey,"

"What's up,"

"Nice to meet you,"

"Doesn't Ortho have thick hair?" Jasper ran his hands through Ortho's hair.

"Thick"

"Sure,"

"Yep,"

"I've asked you to stop doing that," Ortho reminded Jasper. "So? How do you like our school so far?" Henry asked. "It's nice," Ortho answered.

"Hey, can you tell me about the school's main water supply?" Ortho smirked. "Why is he..." Ava trailed off. "Our water supply?" Charlotte asked. "Yes. You know the water that all the teachers and students here drink?"

"Why you wanna know about that?" Henry asked. "I have reasons," Ortho smiled creepily, sending a chill down Ava's spine.

"Sorry, ortho, they don't really tell us about the water supply," Jasper said. "I see. Hey, does this school have any security cameras?"

"Security cameras?"

"Yes. Where are your cameras?"

"Erm... there might be some outside," Henry pointed outside. "I don't think we have security cameras here in the hallway," Charlotte added. "That's good news," Ortho smirked. "Hey Ortho, wanna see my locker?" Jasper asked. "Yes. Immediately," Ortho answered in a sinister manner.

They followed Jasper to his locker. Jasper swung the door open, showing the contents inside. "This is where I keep my books and my lunch. And this is Captain Man; he came to my birthday party," Jasper bragged, pointing to a picture of Captain Man in his locker.

"Oh, I know all about the Captain Man. And one day, hopefully, my father will take care of him," Ortho smirked.

"What do you mean by that?" Henry asked. "It means he'll take care of Captain Man," Ava said, her smile fading.

"Take care of Captain Man, how?" Charlotte asked. "I hope it will be a smooth trip to..." Ava muttered, her hands balled into fists. "I shouldn't say. It's still in the planning phase," Ortho answered, walking away.

"I'm gonna kill him. I have a box cutter in my pocket," Ava threatened. "Isn't he neat?" Jasper smiled enthusiastically before Henry and Charlotte shot weird looks at them.

Ava, Henry, and Charlotte rushed inside Junk and Stuff. "Ray, we got to talk to you," Henry urged. "This is important," Charlotte added. "A kid threatened to get rid of you," Ava blurted out.

"There's a creepy new kid at school," Henry started. Ray groaned, "Ugh, can we talk about it downstairs? Gooch's juice smells,"

Ray, Ava, Charlotte, and Henry walked into the elevator, passing by Gooch and his machine. "Why do you think this Ortho kid is up to something?" Ray asked.

"Well, he was asking about the school's water supply," Henry explained. "And he wanted to know about the security cameras andโ€”"

Ava interrupted Charlotte by pressing the elevator button, causing them to shoot down.
Charlotte and Henry started screaming at the sudden drop.

"I wonder why he was asking about those things?" Ray crossed his arms.

"Stop screaming, it's just a ride!" Ava reassured them, yelling at Charlotte and Henry. Her voice overlapped Ray's.

"How was your day, Ava?"

"Eh, I need sleep,"

Once the elevator reached the bottom. Ava and Ray quickly walked out while Henry and Charlotte stayed behind, holding onto the ledge.

"Can that elevator be adjusted?" Charlotte asked. "Why do you say that Ortho kid is creepy?" Ray questioned.

"Because he says weird stuff," Henry answered. "And he's got this crazy psycho look in his eye," Ava added. "You got a pic?" Ray requested.

"Uh..." The three kids thought about it. "Jasper's Twitflash," Charlotte suggested. "Oh yeah," Henry nodded. "Jasper posted a pic of him and Ortho on his Twitflash," Henry pointed out.

"Then I say we look at Jasper's Twitflash," Ray said dramatically, turning to face the other way. Henry, Ava, and Charlotte shrugged weirdly.

"Bucket, bucket. Selfie with bucket," Henry scrolled through Jasper's Twitflash. Ray, Charlotte, and Ava rolled their eyes, uninterested in the sights of Jasper's bucket pictures. "Bucket. Bucket. Ah, there's Ortho's right there," Henry pointed at the picture.

Jasper was happily posing next to a bucket while Ortho smiled creepily.

"Hmm. He is a boy, all right," Ray walked towards the monitor. "A boy that is up to no good," Charlotte added, crossing her arms. "Oh, give him a break," Ray sneered.

"What?" The three kids were stunned at Ray's reaction. "The kid's new to your school. He's probably just a little awkward. Let's not make mumps out of marshmallows," Ray reassured.

"He also threatened you," Ava added.

"Me?" Ray got up from his seat, pissed. "What'd that little marsh mump say?" Ray asked. "That his father was going to "take care" of you," Charlotte asked.

"Oh, did he? Well, we'll just see about..." Ray trailed off, a look of realization washing over him. "Wait, He said his father was going to take care of me?" Ray repeated.

"Yep,"

"Sure did,"

"Depends on how you want me to answer,"

"Put that kid's pic back on the monitor and zoom in," Ray snapped his fingers. Henry zoomed into the picture again. "That hair. You guys ever heard of Drill Finger?" Ray asked Charlotte and Henry.

"Those little pickles?" Charlotte questioned. "I think those are Dill fingers," Henry corrected. "I love Dill fingers," Charlotte exclaimed.

"This is not about pickles," Ava shook her head. I'm talking about a dentist," Ray said, reversing their attention.

"Named Drill Finger?"

"Yeah,"

"He used to be a dentist before he turned to a life of crime," Ray said. "Three years ago, he kidnapped the mayor of Swellview and removed all his teeth," Ava started. Which left him toothless," Ray repeated. That's why he only eats soup," Henry realized.

"Exactly,"

"And what happened to Drill Finger?" Charlotte asked. "I captured him and took him to jail," Ray answered. "But he was released three weeks ago," Ava stated. Ray showed them a picture of Drill FInger on the monitor. "That's Drill Finger," Ray pointed.

A man with curly hair wore a purple mask covering his face. His hands raised, holding dental tools in each.

Drill Finger

#96372

Swellview Police Department

"Does he always wear a mask?" Henry asked. "Yeah. But look at his hair," Ray pointed at the simlaiary between Ortho snd Drill Finger. "Just like Ortho's," Charlotte stated. Ray called Gooch, tapping the monitor.

"Gooch,"

"Hey, I can't talk now. I'm on the phone with my nephew Benji, he's had the chicken pox,"

Ray ignored Gooch's situation. "Do you remember when I put Drill FInger in jail?"

"Of course,"

"What were his exact words as they took him away?" Ray asked.

"He said, "As soon I get out of here, I'm gonna take care of Captain Man."

"That's what I thought," Ray said, his eyes deep in thought.

"Great, I got to go,"

Ray ended the call, rolling his eyes. Ray got up from his seat. "So Ortho is the son of Drill Finger," Henry concluded.

"I knew it. I knew it. I knew that boy was evil. I knew it," Charlotte screamed. "Yeah, but did you know it?" Henry asked, crossing his arms. "I did," Charlotte nodded.

"But what are they up to?" Ray asked, frustrated. "Well, I'm not going to figure out by wearing a loud shirt and stroking my chin," Ray said. "What do we do?" Ava asked, leaning on the couch next to Charlotte and Henry.

"I'm going to do a little spying on your new classmate, Ortho. I'm gonna have to figure out a way into your school, maybe as a substitute teacher," Ray suggested, snapping his fingers.

Ava blinked in horror, "Please don't. The only time I want you to see you in school is in your Captain Man suit so I can be proud of you still,"

Ray rolled his eyes at Ava's comment. "Well, you can't just wait for one of your teachers to get sick," Charlotte said. "Hmm. Good point, I'll have to think of a plan," Ray agreed.

Ray tried thinking hard about the plan he could follow with. "Try stroking your chin," Henry suggested. Ray followed Henry's idea, stroking his chin. Charlotte, Henry and Ava followed along.

Ava was talking with Henry and Charlotte. "How could you say Reputation is Taylor Swift's worst album? It's full of songs about love and lust," Ava argued. "Well, love is overrated," Henry responded. "Because you've never been in love or a relationship," Ava retorted.

The trio heard Jasper's call for attention, "Hey guys!" Ava rolled her eyes at Henry as she got up from her chair. "Hold on a second," Ava paused. Henry and Ava called out, "Hey guys,"

The room quiet down. The attention was now on them. Jasper was bewildered at Ava and Henry's power. "Principal said Miss Shapen has chicken pox," Jasper stated. "All right, free day" Henry cheered.

The class started cheering till Jasper interrupted them. "No. No. No. No. He said we're getting a substitute teacher," Jasper rephrased as he found his seat.

"You don't think Ray..." Charlotte remembered what happened yesterday. "Nah, he wouldn't," Henry remarked. "Oh yes, he would," Ava promised as she took a sip of her water.

Ray walked into the room, dressed up in a plaid suit and swept his hair to the side with a buck teeth as his disguise. "Hello, children," Ray greeted them in a funny accent. Ava almost spit her water out, shocked at the actual follow-through Ray did at his own idea.

"Everyone, please take your seats," Ray asked. "What the hell?" Ava blinked in shock as she found her seat next to Henry's. "It seems like your teacher has caught the regular pox of a chicken," Ray paraphrased the sentence weirdly.

"Nasty red bumps all over," Ray described. "But not to worry. I am your substitute, Mr. Gelding," Ray introduced himself, writing his name halfway before throwing the marker away. "My god..." Ava muttered.

Ava tried stopping Henry from getting up from his seat. "No, leave him be," Ava tried pushing Henry back to his seat but failed as he marched up to Ray.

"Ray are you kidding me?" Henry whispered-shouted. "Shh, I know what I'm doing," Ray whispered.

"That's not going to work..."

"It might work if you..."

Ava marched up towards them, "You look ridiculous," Ava commented. "Just sit down," Ray glared at them. "Can you talk to us about it?" Henry asked. "No, I can't talk to you guys about this," Ray whispered.

"Just sit down, Henry. I'll yell at him later," Ava tried pulling Henry away from Ray. "Sit down and trust me," Ava begged, pulling Henry's arm.

"Sit down, boy!" Ray yelled. "Yes, Mr Gelding," Henry turned around awkwardly as Ava pushed Henry back to his seat.

"Now then, let's do a roll call," Ray picked up a tablet from the desk. "We'll start with first names that begin with the letter O," Ray awkwardly tapped on a tablet.

"My name is Oliver," Oliver raised his hand. "Shut up, Oliver," Ray silenced, getting up from the desk. "Shouldn't you start with the letter A?" Ava asked. Ray ignored Ava, walking closer to Ortho.

"Where's uh, Where's Ortho?" Everyone turned around to face Ortho as he awkwardly raised his hand. "Hello, Ortho," Ray frowned.

"Now then, who can tell me about the isosceles triangle?" Ray asked, leaning onto the board. "This is a history class," Ava corrected Ray, raising his hand.

"Who can tell me about the history of the isosceles triangle," Ray rephrased the question.
"Ortho, what do you know?" Ray glared at him. "I... I'm new," Ortho stuttered.

"Excuse me? Mr Gelding? Can I talk to you outside?" Henry stood up from his chair. "I'm in the middle of a lesson?" Ray replied. "He has a question about my personal hygiene," Ava blurted out, causing Henry to glare at her. "To the hall we go," Ray marched outside along Henry.

"Hey, I have a lot of questions about my hygiene," Jasper added.

"No one wants to know about that, sweetheart," Ava patted his arm.

"Let me go get my stuff from my locker," Ava stood up from her seat, trying to find a way to leave the class to talk to Ray and Henry.

"But you can't just leave class," Jasper stopped her. "Hey, Do you want to be right, or do you keep a friend?" Ava walked out of the class, slamming the door.

"Ok you two are in big trouble with whatever the hell did my dad do!"Ava scolded, pointing at them. "I didn't know what Ray's plan was!" Henry whispered-yelled, defending himself.

"What did you do with our teacher?" Ava asked she reverted her attention to Ray. "I gave her a disease," Ray said in a sing-songy voice, fiddling with his fingers.

"Oh my god!"

"Oh my god! You are so dead, Raymond Manchester!"

"Just chicken pox," Ray tried justifying himself. "That's the worst kinds of pox!" Henry whispered-yelled. "What about tuna pox?" Ray asked. "There's no such thing as tuna pox!" Ava rolled her eyes, trying to keep her voice low.

"Look, you three were the ones who said Ortho's up to no good," Ray stated. "I knowโ€”" Henry tried before getting interrupted by Ray. "We already know his father is Drill Finger. Now we need to figure out what they're planning,"

Suddenly, Charlotte walked out of the classroom, joining them. "You guys, Jasper keeps asking me questions about his personal hygiene,"

"Well, tell him toโ€”" Henry cut Ava off by covering her mouth. "So?" Henry shrugged. "So you better get back to class before I tell him things he does not want to know," Charlotte warned, walking back into class.

"Okay. You clear on the plan?"

"No!" Henry and Ava answered. "Let's go," Ray gave a thumbs up, strutting back into class. Henry and Ava followed him back to class, sitting at their seats.

"I just want to know if I should use different soaps for different parts for me?" Jasper asked Charlotte. "Shh," Charlotte stopped him, annoyed at Jasper's constant questions.

"Now, history is filled with stories of evil, nasty people. Who can name some?" Ray sent a dirty glare at Ortho as he asked the question.

"Oooh, Genghis Khan,"

"Yes,"ย

"Jake Gyllenhaal!"

"I love me some All Too Well,"

"Voldemort," Oliver raised his hand.

"Good one,"

"Big Bird," Charlotte answered.

"Absolutely, now..." Ray walked towards Ortho's desk. "Who can name some other evil people, Ortho?" Everyone turned to face Ortho. "Um..." Ortho stuttered. "Oh, Ortho! Surely you must know someone with evil intentions," Ray snapped at him.

"Like maybe someone planning to sabotage the school," Henry taunted. "Yeah, Ortho," Ava and Charlotte joined in. "Iโ€” I don't understand," Ortho denied. "What are your plans?" Ray leaned forward on Ortho's desk. "Give the kid some space," Ava defended. "Oh Ava you know his plans?" Ray taunted.

"My only plan is to go home and hope that my dad remains alive after today if he is mature enough to stop snapping at a kid," Ava answered, she sent a glare at Ray. "No,"ย  Ray answered directly. "No?" Ava crossed her arms, her glare was scaring Ray. "No..." Ray calmed down.

"Well, after class I plan to eat a turkey wrap," Ortho pointed to a brown paper bag.

"Aha!" Charlotte screamed. Ray quickly snatched brown's paper bag, throwing its contents out of the bag. "You, student examine Ortho's turkey wrap," Ray tossed Henry the wrap. "What is going on?" Jasper asked, confused.

Henry destroyed the wrap. "Wrap's clean," Henry showed the empty wrap. "Now, students. To really know history, we must first learn your history," Ray stated, walking backwards to the teacher's desk. "What the hell..." Ava helplessly smacked her head onto the desk. Jasper picked up Ortho's empty wrap.

"Therefore tomorrow shall be Bring Your Father to Class,"ย  Ray stated. "All our fathers?" Jasper asked, trying to fix Ortho's lunch. "No let's just start with one father," Ray answered. "My father's lives in our basement," Oliver said.

"Put your hands over your face," Ray instructed. Oliver followed through immediately, putting both of his hands over his face. "Ortho. You bring your father to class tomorrow," Ray said. "Okay," Ortho hesitated.

Ray gave Henry and Ava a thumb up, Ava responded with a dumbfounded face and Henry showed a sign of relief. "Look, I fixed your wrap," Jasper held up the messy wrap, stuck together with a pencil. Ortho took it back, unpleased.

"I can't breathe," Oliver said.

Ava followed Henry and Charlotte into class, she passed Ortho was eating corn out of a small bucket. "All right, lads and roonies. Rumps in chairs," Ray ordered them with his funny accent.

A man walks through the back door with the same curly hair that matched with Ortho's. "Hello. is this... Oh, hi Ortho," The man waved at Ortho. "Hello, father," Ortho waved back, greeting his Dad with a smirk.

"Well, it isn't Ortho's daddy," Ray said dramatically. "Accent!" Charlotte reminded. "Well, it isn't Ortho's daddy," Ray repeated with his accent. "Yeah. Sorry, I'm a little late. I had some things to do," Ortho's Dad apologized.

"What kind of things?" Henry asked. "Yeah, what kind of things?" Ava crossed her arms, sending a glare at Ortho's Dad. "Just some work things," Ortho's Dad stated.

"So I was told it was bring your father to class day,"

"That's right," Ray confirmed, keeping his smirk. "Okay. So, now what?" Ortho's Dad asked. Ortho started getting excited as he held onto his book.

"Maybe you could tell the children about the type of work you do and--"

Ray zapped Ortho's Dad in his chest, causing him to fall unconscious. "Father!" Ortho cried. "Oh, bad luck. It appears that Ortho's father is having a medical episode," Ray stated. "No! I think you did something to him," Ortho accused, pulling out his phone as he stood up.

"Oh, I'm calling My Mom, and then you'll be in big--"

Henry and Ava quickly zapped Ortho, causing him to fall onto the floor. "Uh, oh there's goes Ortho," Henry said, pretending to pity Ortho. "Good Heavens, the medical problem must be genetic," Ava stated. "We should take them to the School Nurse," Charlotte suggested.

"Good idea. Let's hurry up, shall we?" Ray hurried. "Help me get Ortho," Henry told Ava and Charlotte as they each grabbed Ortho's legs. Henry opened the door, and Ava and Charlotte started dragging him by the legs.

Ray picked up Ortho's Dad from behind and carried him out of the classroom. "Excuse me. Terribly sorry," Ray stopped the door from closing in on him and they carried the father-son duo out of the classroom.
