yujun was born into quite a wealthy family. ever since a young age, him and his older brother were never able to get along which was mostly due to their large age gap (7 years). however, after his younger brother was born, he finally felt like he had a friend he could get along with.

yujun and all of his siblings were also home schooled which meant yujun never really had any friends. his parents also put a lot of high expectations on their children from a very young age, and yujun tried his best to meet most of them. however, as he got older, meeting those expectations became more and more stressful for him. it was at this time that yujun turned to music as a form of escapism, and slowly started forming a passion for it.

after yujun's oldest brother found a high paying job, his parents began pressuring him into finding a career path and began expecting even more of him. yujun struggled to find any career that interested him which didn't please his parents. the only passion he really had at the time was music, which his parents didn't give too much attention towards.

in late 2016, when his family was visiting yujun's brother in seoul, and he was scouted at the mall purely for his visuals. he decided to audition despite having very low hopes of actually passing it. his parents opposing this decision also didn't help yujun's confidence on passing the audition. however, despite his doubts, yujun managed to pass the audition and became a trainee under kq.
