since a very young age, daeshim was mostly taken care of by his grandmother, as his parents were usually too busy with their jobs. he didn't really mind that much though, as they still spent time together during holidays.

his grandmother was the person that awakened daeshim's passion for music, as one of the things they loved to do together was singing songs. due to daeshim's grandma being a vocal coach, he also grew up developing his talent for singing.

in school, he was a very timid child and didn't really have many friends, which worried his grandmother a little bit. however, this didn't really affect daeshim that much. he was more interested in broadening his music capabilities and began learning how to play different instruments. the instruments he tried to play were always a hit or miss, but he never lost hope due to his grandmas contasnt encouragement.

after seeing one of seventeen's performances, he began wondering if he could become an idol himself. after much contemplation, he asked his grandma for her advice and she answered in a very cliché way with "follow your heart".

after talking to his grandmother, he decided to audition to a couple of entertainment companies. at first he wasn't very successful, but eventually passed big hit's audition and began training under the company.

after more than three years of training under the company, he was about to debut in a group but was removed from the lineup. he decided to leave the company after losing hope for debuting. however, his grandma encouraged him to audition again since he already put some much time and passion to achieve this goal already. so, he adutioned for kq, and surprisingly passed. what he was even more surprised by was the news that he would debut in a group under that company.
