Veronica (Vex) Williams is the youngest child, and only daughter, of Jack and Mary Williams. She grew up in Duluth, Georgia, alongside her brother, Dean Williams. Her mother died when Veronica was six years old, leaving the children under Jack's care, though as a commander in the Navy, he was often not present following his wife's passing. Veronica met Paul Finch when she was 13, and he was 23, starting an inappropriate relationship that would result in marriage the day after her 18th birthday, which her father disapproved of and cut all contact off with Veronica over. Following her graduation from high school, and her marriage, Veronica enlisted in the Navy, something neither Jack nor Dean supported. After boot camp, Veronica received her first orders in Monterey, California, where she would stay for the next two years, and give birth to her daughter, Zeppelin Williams. She returned to Georgia after a recruiter suggested her for SEAL training, something Dean Williams disagreed with, which began three years of estrangement. Veronica followed through with SEAL training and began tours as soon as she was finished. After three deployments, Veronica reached out to her older brother and learned of her father's passing. The siblings stayed in contact after this, and through Veronica's next four tours. Following her last tour, Veronica served Paul Finch, husband of ten years, with divorce papers and left their shared home with their daughter. Vex and Zeppelin Williams lived in a small apartment in Atlanta, Georgia for two years, before the apocalypse began, and Atlanta fell. They moved to Dean Williams' bunker, where they stayed for a year, before meeting a group that had also escaped Atlanta.
