𝐬𝐢𝐱 | In The Jungle
──────────❝ 🦕 ❞──────────
Zach continued through the open path in the dense jungle while both Gray and Brooklyn were clearly on edge and bemused by Zach's decision. "No, no, bad idea, bad idea," Gray cried out to his older brother. "Great idea," Zach replied, the way he saw it was this allowed for more time in a small space with Brooklyn which meant more bonding. "No! We're gonna get arrested. They'll shave our heads, and we're gonna have to make root beer in the toliet," Gray expressed to his brother. "You won't get arrested, Gray. They'll just inform your parents of the actions and I may lose my job," Brooklyn stated and turned to Zach with a look that said 'so let's go back' which he, of course, ignored knowing they wouldn't actually fire someone like Brooke.
The ball came to a stop ahead of some dinosaurs and Zach spoke up, "What are you two talking about? There. You see? I told you two. Up close and personal with four dinosauruses." Brooklyn scoffed lightly at Zach's lack of Dinosaur knowledge while Gray spoke up, "Ankylosaurus. We shouldn't be here. And there's five dinosaurs." Brooklyn furrowed her brows as the hairs on the back of her neck stood up, a strange pressure formed in her head as a hiss like voice spoke, "Little dino girl, you'll be tasty." Brooke's heart felt as though it stopped and she swallowed slowly as a layer of sweat formed on her forehead having never heard such a voice before. "Aren't you supposed to be a genius or something? Look, one, two, three, four," Zach pointed out the Dinosaurs.
"Five," Gray pointed at what was accurately a reflection of the Indominus Rex that stood behind them. All three teens turn their heads spotting the large white beast, she roars loudly causing the two boys to panic while Brooklyn felt like her blood pressure had dropped. "Go, go, go!" Gray screamed at his brother. "Shit! Hold it together, man!" Zach replied to his brother but he noticed the way Brooklyn's face seemed to pale slightly as she breathed quickly. The Indominus Rex races towards the Ankylosaurus, knocking the Gyrosphere to the side. Brooklyn grabbed a crying Gray's hand in her own as Zach tried to regain control over the spinning Gyrosphere.
As the Indominus Rex fought to kill the Ankylosaurus while the Gyrosphere rolled close to them. Brooklyn looked up at the Ankylosaurus, "Help us." The Ankylosaurus heard her panic cry and swung its tail at the ball sending it out of harms way however, the Gyrosphere came to a stop upside down causing the three teens to feel dizzy as blood rushed to their heads. The Indominus and Ankylosaurus continued to fight until the Hybrid managed to roll the Ankylosaurus over and snap its neck. "We're safe in here, right?" Gray whispered fearfully. "Yeah. Totally safe," Zach whispered reassuringly while Brooklyn finally managed to speak, "It'll be okay, Gray." The young boy looked at her, "Can you communicate with it?" Brooklyn frowned, "Not without alerting that we're in here."
However, that wouldn't matter as Zach's phone began vibrating against the bottom of the Gyrosphere. Zach and Brooklyn tried to reach for the ringing phone while Gray fearfully stared into the eye of a beast. "Zach," Gray called out. "I almost got it," Zach replied as he barely grazed his fingers on the screen. "Zach?" Gray muttered out terrified, the three teens looked up at the Indominus' eye. She lets out a roar before stabbing a claw into the glass of the Gyrosphere, pulling it downwards so the teens can face her. She watches them, growling softly as she locked eyes with Brooklyn directly. "You... think... you're... the... alpha? I'll show... you... dino girl," The Indominus spoke to Brooklyn who shivered uncomfortably uncertain how this beast knew who she was.
"How do you know me?" Brooklyn responded painfully, her head was pounding uncomfortably. "My creator..." The Indominus replied, she then let out a loud ear piercing roar before latching her jaws onto the Gyrosphere, chomping down so her teeth punctured the glass. Inside, Gray is screaming while Zach fumbles with their buckles, motioning for Brooklyn to do the same. The Indominus smashes the sphere onto the ground, smashing the glass below them as the teens finally freed themselves from the belts and fall to the ground. "Go! Go!" Zach urges to the two of them, the three take off into the jungle while the Indominus was focused on tossing the sphere aside like it was nothing.
The three continued running until they reached a waterfall, the three of them freeze in place at the edge of the cliff. "We're gonna have to jump!" Zach told the two as the Indominus roars loudly breaking through the tree line. "I can't," Gray whimpered as Brooklyn kept watch on the Hybrid, she was readying herself to push the two into the water below. "Are you two ready?" Brooklyn asked, both boys went to look at her but she shoved them off of the cliff and into the water below. Brooklyn spared a quick glance at the glaring Hybrid before leaping into the water, a searing pain burned through her shoulder as the Indominus Rex' tooth just managed to cut through her shoulder blade ripping her flannel from her waist causing it to fall onto the edge of the cliff.
Zach held Gray when he moved to swim up, Brooklyn fought against the pain in her arm and back as the Indominus looked over feeling frustrated at the loss of the teens. She stomps away angrily allowing Zach and Gray to swim up and lay back against the bank, they coughed out a bit of water as Brooklyn surfaced and coughed before wincing in pain. She swam over and laid on the bank next to Zach as the eldest Mitchell checked on Gray, "You okay?" Gray nodded, "Well... we survived." The two chuckled before Zach turned to check on Brooklyn only to see the blood dripping down her back. "Holy shit!" Zach exclaimed before he moved to check the wound, a deep cut from the top of her right shoulder down to the bottom of her shoulder blade.
"Brooke!" Gray shouted as Brooklyn whimpered slightly. "We need something to apply pressure to it until we get to the others," Brooklyn told them and Zach instantly pulled his jacket off, twisting it around to create something that could apply pressure. Brooklyn hissed from the pain as Zach tightened the jacket awkwardly around the wound, slightly trapping her arm but it was the most efficient way they could do it. "Alright, we gotta move," Brooklyn told the brothers before she began walking forward, Zach and Gray shared a concerned expression before they quickly followed after her. "How do we get back?" Gray asked Brooklyn. "I think I remember where the old buildings are so I could find the way from there," Brooklyn assured him.

Meanwhile, Owen and Claire drive through the Valley when Owen comes to a stop. "Stay in the car," Owen ordered Claire as he walks towards a fatally injured Apatosaurus, kneeling down before placing a gentle hand on the dying dinosaur. Claire ignored Owen's direct order and approached the man who was delicately soothing the dying dinosaur that was clearly in a lot of pain. She knelt down opposite to Owen, reaching out to place her hand on its skin, and she was startled by accident, removing her hand, and the Apatosaurus raises her head, bellowing before lying down again. Claire tries a second time, laying her hand on the Apatosaurus' neck, one lone tear falling down her cheek as the animal takes her last breath on this earth.
Claire looked up at Owen who looks stoic despite the sorrow in his chest, he stood up followed by Claire as he reaches the top of hill. The two are stunned at the sight of many uneaten dead dinosaurs, scratches riddling their skin causing Claire to gasp audibly in shock. "It didn't eat them. It's killing for sport," Owen spoke out, his eyes darkened in anger at the ones who created such a beast however, a pit formed in his stomach at the thought of Brooklyn being out there in constant danger. "We need to keep moving," Owen told Claire before walking back to the car and continuing on their way. It isn't long until they locate the broken fence, Owen instantly headed into the jungle despite telling himself that he'd curse Brooklyn out the moment she was safe.
The broken-up voice of Jimmy Fallon echoed out before fading as Claire and Owen approached the destroyed Gyrosphere, the sight caused tears to form in Claire's eyes. She spots Zach's smashed up phone, "No, no, no." Owen looked around and noticed Brooklyn's phone, he grabbed it and held it tight in his grip holding onto the hope of her survival instincts keeping her and the boys alive. "Hey," Owen called out as he found footprints that showed the teens had made it out, "They made it out." Claire looked over before they followed the trail, Owen holding his rifle tight after slipping Brooklyn's phone into his pocket. It isn't long before they reached the cliffside where the waterfall flowed into a deep pond below, he noticed Brooklyn's flannel.
"My God, they jumped," Claire gasped out worried as Owen picked up Brooklyn's flannel, a sick feeling flooded his stomach at the sight of blood soaking a part of it. "Oh my God..." Claire exclaimed seeing the clothing in Owen's grip, she saw the fear and worry that filled Owen's eyes before he steeled himself. "Brave kids," Owen commented, he wouldn't ever doubt Brooklyn's skills; she was fine. "Zach! Gray! Brooklyn!" Claire shouted out in hopes for a response however, Owen was quick to turn to her and cup his hand over her mouth. "Hey! I am not one of you damn animals!" Claire snapped at him once he moved his hand away. "Listen, those kids are still alive, but you and I will not be if you continue to scream like that," Owen warned the woman.
"So... you can pick up their scent, can't you? Uh, track their footprints?" Claire asked condescendingly making Owen stare back at her in disbelief. "I was in the Navy, not the Navajo," Owen replied to her annoyed. "So then what should we do? What do you suggest we do?" Claire asked hurriedly. "You get back. I'll find them," Owen expressed, he didn't need to worry about her while he searched for the teenagers. "No, we'll find them," Claire snapped back while Owen smirked amused. "You'll last two minutes in there. Less in those ridiculous shoes," Owen mocked her. Claire stares defiantly at him before she unbuttons her belt causing Owen to look at her puzzled. She unbuttons her shirt, and ties it, showing her purple tank top before placing her hands on her hips.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Owen asked her. "It means I'm ready to go," Claire replied to him sternly. He was silent for a moment before sighing, "Okay. Let's get one thing straight. I'm in charge out here, you do everything I say, exactly as I say it." Claire glared at his order, "Excuse me?" Owen waved her off, "Just relax. It's just taking a walk through the woods... 65 million years ago." Claire sighs and walks away from him, Owen watched her for a moment before looking down at the flannel in his hand, he frowned deeply before dropping it. He wouldn't risk the scent of blood sticking to them when he had no idea what kind of dinosaur they were dealing with. Owen just prayed to whatever Gods were out there that Brooklyn was okay, the boys too.

Rosemary Speaks. . .
"Big brother" Owen is everything to me, he really cares about Brooklyn.
Also, Brooklyn is hurt. That's no good. Also, imma just say, just because she can communicate with dinosaurs, doesn't mean she can control them.
