𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 | Prehistoric Bird Chaos

──────────❝ 🦕 ❞──────────

Claire's phone rang and she was quick to answer it, "Hello?" The woman, Zara Young was on the other side, "Claire, we spotted the boys and Brooklyn on surveillance. They're approaching the west gate. I'm headed there now." Claire sighed in some relief knowing they had made it out of the jungle, "Okay. Stay right there. I'm on my way. Stay right with them." She hung up the phone and turned to Owen who was on his bike, "Hey! Get on!" She quickly climbed on behind him. With the teens, they listened as the announcer spoke through the P.A system, "Ladies and gentlemen, due to a containment anomaly all guests must take shelter immediately." It repeated the announcement as everyone screamed and scurried into shelter from the flock of prehistoric birds causing chaos.

Zach kept both Gray and Brooklyn close to him, the woman trying to focus on Zach's touch on her waist rather than the birds and chaos around them. Many tourists were snatched up by birds, Brooklyn sneered before lightly shoving away from Zach and focusing on the birds around them. "Leave... everyone... alone... or... die..." Brooklyn forced out painfully, Zach cupped her face in his hands as a large majority of the prehistoric birds backed off from the tourists, flocking off to other parts of the island instead. "Easy... you can't do too much," Zach warned her as he noticed the blood falling from her left ear, "Don't strain yourself, Lyn." She frowned feeling useless despite her gift.

Gray spots Zara in the distance, she locked eyes with the boy and called out, "Come here! Don't just stand there!" Zach and Brooklyn turned to the woman as she is picked up by a pteradon causing her to scream out as she flailed in its grip. The three teens rushed forward after her in horror, the pteradon dropped her in the lagoon causing Brooklyn to fill with dread as she rushed forward. "Molly, bird only! Bird only!" Brooklyn screamed out to the Mosasaurus before looking at the woman, "Swim!" Zara panicked but tried to swim, fortunately for Zara, Molly soared out from the water and snapped the birds up in her jaws using her flipper to push Zara closer to the edge of the lagoon. Brooklyn helped Zara from the water, ignoring the pain.

"Thank you... thank you..." Zara panted out fearfully. "You're not missing your wedding day," Brooklyn told her with a soft smile before pushing for her to run ahead into safety. The large crowd pushed between them, Zach grabbed both Brooklyn and Gray and pulled them close to him as a pteradon flew by almost snatching the younger boy up. However, Claire jumped up onto a fallen food stand before cupping her hands around her mouth, "ZACH! GRAY! BROOKE!" The three teens turned to the woman, Zach pulled Brooklyn and Gray along with him towards her. "Aunt Claire!" Gray called out to her, Owen noticed the teens before spotting a bird heading directly towards Brooklyn. "No! Brook--" Owen was cut off by a pteradon pinning him to the ground.

The pterodactyl that flew for Brooklyn crashed and the woman pushed the two boys away before backing away from the large beak that stopped just inches from her chest. Zach rushed over to Brooklyn and pulls her up and away from the large bird, he cupped her face in his hands. "Don't do that again," Zach scolded before hugging her, he thought he was about to lose her. "No promises," Brooklyn replied to him before leaning back to place a soft kiss on his lips. The two turned to Gray who was watching as Claire grabbed Owen's gun and smacked the pteradon in the head making it yelp, she shoots it multiple times before helping Owen up. Claire handed Owen his gun but he pulls her in for a kiss, she gasps but kisses him back anyway.

"Would you look at that," Brooklyn commented with a slight smirk, she knew that Owen had an interest in Claire. After a moment, the two pulled apart and then Claire spotted the three teenagers. "It's them!" Claire exclaimed as she hurriedly rushed towards her nephews, "Zach! Gray! My God!" As Claire fussed over her nephews, Owen approached Brooklyn. "You hurt bad?" Owen asked stoically. "A little," Brooklyn replied to him with a slight frown. "But you're okay?" Owen asked softly. "I am... I will be," Brooklyn answered before she hugged Owen, he hugged her back feeling relieved that she was okay. "Who's that?" Gray asked pointing at Owen, Zach biting back the frown.

"We work together," Claire answered making Brooklyn laugh. "This is Owen," Brooke introduced, both Mitchell's nodded in understanding having heard Brooklyn talk about him. "Hey, we gotta go," Owen told them, he grabbed Brooklyn's left arm and lead the way. Claire called Lowery, "Lowery, I'm on my way back to you." Brooklyn rolled her shoulder uncomfortably catching Owen's attention, "We'll get that looked at." She nodded her head before glancing at Zach who was frowning. "That's a bad idea. The board assigned emergency ops to InGen's private security division. This guy Hoskins is in charge. And he has this insane plan to use the Raptors to hunt the Indominus," Lowery explained quietly to Claire on the phone.

"What do you mean 'use the raptors'?" Claire asked catching both Brooke and Owen's attention. "Son of a bitch!" Owen exclaimed while Brooklyn snapped, "That bastard!" Gray looked at Owen, "You shouldn't say 'bitch'." Brooklyn smiled at the boy as Owen looked at Claire, "Take the kids. Get them someplace safe." They stopped by a car when loud banging was heard against the gate, the doors opened to reveal panicked tourists and prehistoric birds prompting the small group to climb into the car. Brooklyn sat between the Mitchell brothers, she leaned her head on Zach's shoulder as Owen backed through the crowd until he was able to turn a corner. "This does not feel safe," Gray commented before saying, "Can we stay with you?"

"I am never leaving you as long as you live," Claire promised the youngest boy. "No, him," Zach corrected pointing at Owen who smirked slightly, Brooklyn rolled her eyes as exhaustion washed over her. "Yeah, definitely him," Gray added making Claire sigh. "We need to stop Hoskins," Brooklyn reminded Owen, he nodded his head before driving the car out of their hidden spot in the direction of the Raptor paddock. "Brooke, you good back there?" Owen asked as he drove. "...Tired," Brooklyn replied honestly as she leaned into Zach's side, the man was quick to wrap his arm around her. "Any pain?" Owen asked next, concern in his eyes. "Not right now... just cold," Brooklyn answered causing Owen's worries to strengthen. "Just stay awake," Owen ordered, Zach began a conversation to keep Brooklyn awake.

The car pulled up to the Raptor Paddock and Owen climbed out the moment he shut off the car, Brooklyn following him with Zach's help out. "The mother hens have finally arrived," Hoskins called out with a smile on his face. Owen punches Hoskins square in the mouth, Zach and Gray watched in awe. "Get the hell out of here and stay away from our animals," Owen growled at the man. "Hoskins, you wanted this to happen, you son of a bitch!" Claire snapped out next while Brooklyn pulled back her fist and collided it with Hoskins jaw. "Jesus!" Hoskins exclaimed from the unexpected strength of the girl. "Damn..." Zach breathed out impressed by her punch. "Fuck off, Hoskins!" Brooklyn sneered as Zach reached out and pulled her back against his chest.

"How many more people have to die before this mission starts to make sense to you?" Hoskins asked them, his words angering Brooklyn more. "It's not a mission. It's a field test," Barry sneered at Hoskins. "This is an InGen situation now. Okay, there are gonna be cruise ships that show up here at first light. Everybody's gonna get off this island. You're gonna watch a news story tomorrow about how you all saved lives. No, better yet, how your animals saved lives!" Hoskins preached like the madman he is. "They've never been out of containment. It's crazy!" Barry exclaimed. "He's right. They are not fucking weapons for your war, you fat bastard!" Brooklyn shouted harshly, the Raptors in the distance heard and felt her anger causing them to stir angrily wishing to defend a member of their pack.

"Let's move it out!" Hoskins called to his people, a glare directed at Brooklyn before looking at Owen, "This is happening! With or without you." Hoskins walked away while Owen turned to Brooklyn, the woman frowned deeply. "You need to protect them, Owen," Brooke told him, he sighed and agreed. "Barry, check her wound and patch it as well as you can," Owen ordered the man who nodded instantly. Owen turned to instruct the InGen soldiers, if they were doing this, then they'd do it his way. "We know that she is in sector five. This is a game we call hide-and-seek. It's a scent drill. Brooke and I have done this about a thousand times with these animals," Owen informed the soldiers who were listening carefully, "When they get on target, and they will get on target, wait to engage."

With her now cleaned and patched shoulder, Brooklyn approached and spoke up, "Velociraptors are pack hunters. They like to herd the animal into a kill zone, that's when you'll take your shot." Owen nodded at her words before adding, "Get a clear shot, wait on my command, and give her everything you got. We got one good target, gentlemen." Brooklyn slammed her hand down, "Do not shoot our Raptors." Owen rested his hand on her good shoulder before adding, "Please." The men nodded and moved to finish prepping for what they were about to do. Brooklyn and Owen walked over to the Raptors, they noticed their unease as they watched Brooke close. "I'm okay, girls. It'll be okay," Brooklyn assured the four of them.

Owen calms Blue while Brooklyn rested her hand against Echo's snout, her eyes closed as they spoke to one another. "Owen, are they safe?" Gray asked the man as he and Zach lean on the bars, the eldest Mitchell had his eyes on Brooklyn. "No, they're not," Owen answered him truthfully. "What are their names?" Gray asked next. "Well, you got Charlie," Owen pointed to Charlie before continuing down the line, "There's Brooklyn's girl, Echo. Here is Delta and this one's called Blue. She's the Beta." Gray perked up at that, "Who's the alpha?" Owen smirked while Brooklyn rolled her eyes knowing what was coming. "You're looking at him, kid," Owen stated with pride. "So much ego," Brooklyn added with a smirk of her own.

Owen and Brooklyn shared a hug as Claire revealed the back of a truck to the boys, it would be the safest option for them in this moment. "Be careful out there," Brooklyn told Owen who pulled back and smiled. "I'll be fine. You look out for them, okay?" Owen asked, she nodded her head before they went their separate ways. Zach helped Brooklyn into the back of the truck, she settled down on the middle of the three seats with each brother on either side. "If you three need me, I'll be right up front. Just open that window. Okay?" Claire asked them before adding, "Put your seatbelts on." Brooklyn looked at her amused, "Claire, they don't have seatbelts in here." The woman hummed before saying, "Then... hold hands." She closed the doors and made her way to the driver's seat.

Gray held out his hand and Brooklyn took it in her own before she leaned her head on Zach's shoulder, he rested his head on top of her own. "Um... nothing's getting in here, right?" Gray asked the two beside him. "Hey," Zach called out for his brothers attention, "Do you remember that ghost at the old house? Remember, the one in the garage? I protected you, right?" Gray smiled fondly as he remembered that, "You made a battle axe out of a ruler and a paper plate." Brooklyn smiled at the two, she liked this bonding more than the distance she witnessed earlier that morning. "Yeah. See, nothing is gonna get you while I'm around, okay?" Zach reassured his little brother.

"But you're not always gonna be around," Gray said sadly as he remembered his brothers words about college. "Yeah, well... Hey... we're brothers, okay? We'll always be brothers, and we'll always come back to one another. No matter what," Zach told him with a soft smile. "No matter what?" Gray asked with soft eyes. "No matter what," Zach promised before he reached over and embraced Gray in a hug. Brooklyn was smiling at the sight, she was glad they had each other through all of this. The two pulled apart and Gray felt more calm knowing that information, he leaned back in the seat and closed his eyes. Brooklyn turned her head and kissed the edge of Zach's mouth before whispering, "That was very sweet." Zach smiled and pulled her close, he was glad something good came out of the chaos.
