Chapter Six

"WHAT does 'grey-asexual' mean?" Felix asked in pure confusion, trying to understand what his girlfriend was trying to tell him.

"It means when a person only feels a certain type of sexual attraction but has no desire to act on it, aka not having the desire for sexual intercourse," she explained, cracking her knuckles nervously.

"So that means..."

"It means that I never experience any type of sexual attraction towards any gender, which means that... I'll never be attracted sexually to you, or to anyone I have a romantic relationship with."

Felix tore his sight away from her for a second, realizing that he didn't know what to say. He never knew what asexuality was until that very moment.

"Baby, I..." he began.

She shook her head, tears filling her eyes. She allowed her tears to stream down her face, then turned away from him. Felix looked into her eyes again, only to be met by the fact that she was crying.

"No, no, no, please don't cry!"

He hurried towards her and engulfed her in a tight hug. "I didn't mean to make you cry, I'm sorry..."

"N-No, it's not you!" she exclaimed.

He continued to squeeze her body against his tightly.

"Baby, it's okay to only want a romantic relationship. You know I would never force you to do anything you don't want to do."

"I know that, Felix." she let him go and wiped her tears with her sleeve.

"Then what is it?" he asked as she led him to her bed.

"I'll tell you the story."

They both lied down on the bed. Felix made sure to squeeze her hand between his so she would stop crying.

"When me and Griffin were dating, I made sure to tell him everything. Including my sexuality. The day I decided to tell him was the worst day of my life." she started, "I wore purple and black and I went to his house, as he was still living with his parents at that time."

Felix stared at her face as she continued her story.

"I began to tell him that I was asexual and how I was sharing a piece of my identity with him. I made sure to include the explanation of what asexuality meant."

Felix nodded sadly. "And then, what happened?"

"Uh-huh, that's good, babe." he replied, not looking up from his phone, "Can you check if my parents are done with dinner yet? I'm starving."

Mal remembered the moment as her heart ached.

"You know who he was texting? He was texting the girl he was cheating on me with. Sabrina, she goes to school with us."

Felix sat up straight on the bed, then turned to his girlfriend with a shocked expression on his face.

"That jerk! How dare he do that to you..?"

Mal shook her head, tears streaming down her face again.

"For a moment I thought you were going to be like him. Most men hear the word 'asexual' and they feel the need to use their crotch as if it was magic!"

"No, no, baby, you know I would never act like that! You know I'll always be there for you." he paused for a minute, "I'm glad that you're not questioning your sexuality anymore. So, congratulations!"

Mal wrapped her arms around his torso, then planted a quick kiss on his cheek.

"Thank you so much, sunshine. I'm so glad you understand."

That moment, they heard a loud knock on the door. The couple adjusted their positions as Mal yelled 'come in!', causing the door to open, revealing a woman in her late forties, with pale, white skin, bright, grey eyes. She was wearing wide clothes and a scarf around her head.

"Hey, Mal! Rajwan told me we have guests over. Who's he?" the woman asked in a language Felix wasn't familiar with.

"Hey, Ahlam. This is Felix, my boyfriend." she turned to her boyfriend, "Felix, this is Ahlam, my stepmother, or you could say, my second mother."

Felix stood up almost immediately and extended his hand to the woman. "Hi, it's so nice to meet you, ma'am."

"Oh, it's so nice to meet you too, honey. Do you want to stay over for dinner? It would be a huge honor." Ahlam spoke cheerfully, then turned to her step-daughter with an admiring expression.

"Oh my, he's so handsome, and he has manners too!"

"I know, right! I was just telling him about my sexuality and he was so supportive."

Ahlam went over to hug her stepdaughter. "I'm so proud of you, sweetie. And I'm proud of you for picking such a nice match. In my opinion, he's way better than that Griffin guy."

Mal nodded, slightly rolling her eyes at the mention of her ex-boyfriend.

"He was just a phase, I guess."
