Chapter One
DIEGO rolled his eyes as he was dragged by Griffin through the green lawns of the local park.
"Are you sure about this, Griffin?"
Griffin stopped in his tracks and shot a quick glare at his friend. "Yes! I wouldn't be here if I wasn't sure, Diego."
Diego sighed.
"I just don't get why we need to go all the way to the park so you can make sure whether Mal's telling the truth or not. It doesn't sit right with me, because you said you were over her."
"I am over her! I just need to know if she's telling the truth or not, or if she's avoiding me. I already told you that she promised to stay friends."
Diego stepped back a little. "I know that but-"
"Shh! There she is."
The pair watched as the girl came to sit down on the wooden park bench.
Mal was a girl of Middle-Eastern heritage with long, chocolate brown hair and deep brown eyes, and a slim, hourglass figure. She was a big fan of the color black, so she wore black most of the time. As Griffin eyed her outfit, which consisted of a black turtleneck long-sleeved shirt, a black leather jacket, black, tight jeans, and high-heeled ankle boots, he forgot for a moment what he was looking for. He only realized, for a brief moment, that she looked amazing in that outfit.
Mal anxiously tapped her long heel to the bare ground as she scrolled through her phone, typing and sending a text to someone, whom Griffin assumed was Ava Michelle. Ava was her best friend of three years, so he understood why they texted each other all the time.
About twenty minutes had passed. Griffin continued to stare at his ex-girlfriend, not realizing how much time had passed.
"Bro, it's been a while already! Can we just go?"
"No! She can't be sitting around here for nothing. Someone has to come by." Griffin spoke confidently, shushing his friend right away. Diego rolled his eyes and decided that he would stick around for only a few minutes later.
A few minutes passed, which only seemed like a few seconds to Griffin as he stared at Mal. Mal was still scrolling through her phone.
Then, her phone vibrated to alert her at yet another text. She scanned it with her eyes and sat up straight, and Diego finally thought that the mysterious person Mal told them about was ought to finally arrive.
And they did.
A few moments later, both Griffin and Diego caught the sight of a tall, extremely handsome boy with Asian features. A boy that seemed almost too familiar to Diego. He had a slender, slim figure with long, dyed-blonde hair made into a mullet hairstyle, piercing chocolate brown eyes, and porcelain white skin.
"No, no, no, not that guy!" Diego whispered, attracting Griffin's attention, who tore his sight away from the couple greeting each other and stared up at his friend curiously.
"You know him? You know this fucking barbie doll?!" he snapped.
"Yes! Don't you? He's our new transfer student from South Korea. He just came like two months ago."
Griffin squinted his eyes at the sight of the couple hugging each other tightly, as if they haven't seen each other in a long time, then plant a deep, passionate kiss on each other's lips. He looked away immediately, jealousy slowly finding its way through his heart.
"I could've sworn I saw that guy before."
Diego sent his friend a baffled look. "I just told you, he's our new-"
"No, not at school! I saw him somewhere else."
"Well, I don't know about that, but... You clearly can't compete with that guy. Whatever his name was. No offense, man."
Griffin scoffed. "Offense fucking taken! We need to do our search, you know, just to see if he's safe for her to date."
"Griff, you don't get to decide who your ex dates, and you certainly don't get to decide if he's worthy of her love or not. You're jealous that she's not with you anymore."
Griffin huffed and stomped on the ground angrily, then turned to make his way out of the park.
"Sorry, I'm just stating a fact!"
Diego followed Griffin out of the location.
Meanwhile, Mal turned to her boyfriend and admired his beautiful face for a few minutes as they talked.
"Anyways, enough about me! How are you doing, sunshine?" she asked him. He turned to her with a small, sincere smile and reached out to squeeze her hand.
"I'm okay, thanks for asking. How did it go with your friends?"
Mal stopped for a moment, realizing the nervous, painful tone he speaking with. She knew that something was bothering him.
"It went fine. Griffin is still acting weird, so I didn't tell him who you were. Pretty sure he followed us here though."
The boy chuckled. His chuckle soon faded into a sad grin as he remembered something, something Mal didn't know.
"I... I know we've been dating for about a month now, but are you sure this won't get you into any trouble with your friends? I know how friends can get overprotective sometimes."
"Of course, sweetie! I know they're my friends, but they don't own me. Now, tell me what's been bothering you."
He turned to her, a shiny gleam in his blue eyes. "Nothing is bothering me!"
"Felix. I know we just started dating but I think I know when something's wrong," she spoke, imitating him from a few moments before, which made him lightly grin. "Now, do you feel like telling me?"
He nodded, his eyes shining with tears. "Yeah, but you have to know that whatever I'm about to tell you is top secret, and sad. I never really told anyone this before."
She smiled weakly as he stood up, reaching for her hand to pull her up as well.
"Come on, we have somewhere to be."
