Chapter Fourteen
THE next day, Mal and Felix were walking through the hallway, their chest up high with the two other members, Hyunjin and Han walking behind them.
"Thanks again for speaking to your mum," Felix muttered with a side smile.
"Of course, sunshine, don't mention it. I can't wait for us to be a big group of friends. I needed better friends anyway." Mal replied, a small, satisfied smile over her face. Felix stopped by her locker and waited for her to collect her books.
"Well, Hyunjin, you need to make a turn by your left, and your locker would be the first thing you see. Han, your locker is by the end of the hallway. And we have the same classes, so you won't find any trouble with that."
Two girls passed by, giggling to each other about something. They turned to Mal with a grin, not paying any sort of attention to the boys. "Good morning, Mal! Looking good today."
"Thanks, Olivia, Sofia. Good morning to you too."
The girls soon went out of sight, which allowed Han to turn to Felix, leaning a little towards him so no one can hear.
"Is she famous or something?"
"Something like that, yeah."
Mal sent them an uncomfortable smile, since she didn't like talking about her popularity or her mothers', then slammed her locker shut. "Anyways, are you guys ready to go?"
"Yeah!"

Later that day, the four friends were sitting inside Mal's car, waiting for her to turn on the engine.
"Hey, are you coming for dinner today? It'd be so much fun!" Hyunjin offered, hopefully looking at the couple from the backseat.
Mal groaned, remembering her plans after school. "Sorry, guys, but I can't. Not today, anyway. I have to make a video for Instagram and YouTube because I'm already late on updating. But, maybe tomorrow?"
Felix's face dropped in disappointment. "Yeah. Maybe tomorrow," he muttered sadly. Mal knew that he was lingering for some time with her.
"I'm sorry, sunshine." she apologized in a small tone, resting her hand on his thigh as she tried to reassure him. He put his hand above hers, squeezing it gently.
"It's okay. I know you can't be with me, us, all the time. But I can only wish, right?" he muttered the last part, then turned to face the window, a sad expression planted over his face.
Mal looked away sadly, turning on the engine in the process. The car ride was silent for a while until Mal's phone rang from her backpack, which was right between her and Felix.
"Oh, can you please let it out?" she asked politely. Felix obeyed, rushing to open the backpack's zipper and taking the phone out. She grabbed it quickly, then put it close to her ear, trying to control the steering wheel with one hand.
"Hello?"
"Guess who's in charge of decorating the homecoming dance?" Ava's singing voice echoed through the phone, making Mal back away from the phone slightly in dismay.
"Who, you?" she replied.
"No. You!"
The response made Mal mentally slap a hand against her forehead. She groaned in annoyance.
"Ava, I'm busy! Can't this wait? I have a lot of things to do and I can't even spend time with my friends!"
"Um, hello! A lot of seniors are supposed to help decorate the dance, something about being a good role model for the freshmen. It's supposed to be held in a month, remember? There's a huge chance your 'friend' is going to be there too! Come on, it's going to be so much fun." Ava persuaded.
Mal sighed. "Great. Who else is in charge?"
"You, me, Griffin, Diego, Olivia, Joshua, Karan. You know, the faces of the school?"
"Griffin's going to be there, huh? Perfect." the girl rolled her eyes, in dismay and pure disgust. She didn't think she could stand the sight of either Griffin or Diego, despite them being her friends for three years.
"Hey, what's your problem with him anyway? I know he keeps bothering your boyfriend, and whatever, but... Did he bother you again or something? I feel like you can't stand him."
"Yes, he did, and no, I'm not ready to talk about it. All I know is that I'm done with his dramatic ass!" she sighed again, trying to contain her anger. She didn't want to yell at Ava, even if Ava has been taking their side sometimes. "Listen, I have to go, okay? I'll see you tomorrow."
Ava muttered a small goodbye and hung up the call, allowing the silent atmosphere to return once again. It wasn't until a few moments later that Han glanced at Mal, ready to say something she couldn't guess.
"Who's Griffin again?"
