chapter twenty five
as the world caves in
━✧━
JORDANNA MADE HER way through Mystic Falls High School, three cups of coffee in hand as she was summoned by her two blonde best friends. The raven haired girl sent the blonde Mikaelson a grin as she approached her. "One cup of coffee for one original vampire," Jordanna sang, passing Rebekah the paper cup.
Rebekah sighed in delight, "you're a lifesaver. Matt bailed and Caroline is late—thank you for coming, it seems as though it's just us for now."
"You are very welcome Miss. Mikaelson," Jordanna smirked as she playfully wrapped a purple boa around the blonde's neck.
The blonde chuckled lightly, a sweet smile settled on her face as she threw the boa at the witch, "get to work Miss. Jones."
"Bossy, bossy, bossy," Jordanna sang teasingly. She walked away and began stacking chairs, with her magic, duh. She wasn't incapable, just lazy. Whilst the witch busied herself with that task Caroline stepped through the gym doors.
The blonde smiled at her best friend as she headed towards her, "where's Matt?"
"Bailed," Jordanna hummed as she concentrated on her cleaning.
"Got called into work last minute," Rebekah elaborated, causing Caroline's head to snap in her direction.
"Are you kidding me? So, it's just us?" Caroline scoffed slightly, glaring at the other blonde.
"Uh—no?" Jordanna raised her hand sarcastically. "I'm here as well."
"You're late," Rebekah told the blonde sternly. "Clean up committee started at eight o'clock."
"It's, like, 8:02," Caroline pulled a face.
"8:03 actually," Jordanna added, earning a glare from her best friend to which she shrugged her shoulders at.
"Exactly," Rebekah pointed in Jordanna's direction. "I managed to turn up on time and I didn't even get to attend the dance that I organised. Even Jordanna's on time for christ sake!" The blonde snapped before making her way towards the streamers.
Caroline rolled her eyes in irritation as she began wiping down a table, the blonde looked up to her best friend who was now at hard work, aggressively tugging down decorations that hung from the ceiling.
"Hey . . . how you doing?" Caroline asked carefully.
Jordanna scrunched up her nose—giving up on trying to grab the decorations and turned to face her best friend with a deadpanned look. "Why are you talking like that?"
"Like what?" Caroline frowned, gnawing on her lip.
"Oh, I don't know," Jordanna rolled her eyes. "Like you hit my nonna with a car or something—you're being weird."
"Okay . . . um rude," Caroline responded with an eye roll. "I just wanted to know if you was okay with the whole Alaric situation—"
"I'm going to sort the streamers out in the hallway, have fun with Bex," Jordanna winked as she ran off into the hallway before Caroline could protest.
She really didn't feel like having an emotional chat right now. She was sad—obviously, but how could she move on if everyone reminded her of it? She already had to deal with an hour phone call with Stefan checking on her—constantly asking if she was okay.
The witch's eyes widened as her gaze flicked over the figure that leant against the lockers—the man twirled a white oak stake between his fingers. "Alaric?" Her shocked expression put an amused smirk on the former teacher's lips. "You died."
"I did," Alaric nodded with a twisted smile.
Suddenly, the man rushed at her, Jordanna waved her hands in the air, causing Alaric to groan. His hands rubbed at his temples whilst the Jones looked up at a locker door—with another wave of her hands it was off its hinges. With all the strength in her, which wasn't a lot, she slammed it down onto his back.
This gave her an opportunity to run like Hell. Her heels slid across the floor as she darted down the corridor, the witch internally cursed at herself for her choice of footwear. Coming to a stop she jolted the doors open, her eyes widened as Alaric stood smiling maliciously in front of her. She swallowed roughly as he caught her wrists in spelled cuffs—the teenager backed away as he leant down to her ear, sending a shudder down her spine.
"Oh, we're going to have so much fun together."
✧
A groan left Jordanna's lips as she regained consciousness after passing out due to the pain. A disgruntled cry caught the witch's attention, she lolled her head to the side—the girl's sunken eyes widening as she caught sight of her blonde friend. "Caroline?" Jordanna whispered hoarsely, throat dry.
Caroline's eyes blurred with tears as she looked over at her best friend, Jordanna's hands were chained together with handcuffs whilst pencils stuck out of them, blood dripped onto the floor slowly—the vampire's eyes grew bigger at how much blood laid on the floor beneath the desk.
Jordanna's complexion paled as result of the blood loss, Caroline's brows furrowed at the strong smell of blood, her eyes trailed along the witch's body, stopping with a rough gulp she let out a shaky breath.
The Jones girl besides her had multiple slashes across her torso, bright red blood seeped through the material of her clothes. Alaric's head snapped up as the blonde began shaking the desk she was tied to, the smell of burnt skin filled their noses as Caroline opened her mouth, screaming.
Alaric strode across the room with raised eyebrows. "Yes?" He questioned boredly as he pulled down the vervain cloth on Caroline's face.
"Let her go, Alaric!" Caroline grunted out. The desk shaking violently as she tried to push her body out of it. Alaric smirked as the next words slipped out of the blondes mouth, "let her go or so help me god I will kill you."
Alaric shrugged as he approached the girl next to the blonde vampire, he leant down on his knees—face holding a sympathetic look.
But Jordanna knew he was far from sympathetic.
Swiftly, he pulled out a bloodied dagger from his jacket pocket and imbedded it into the girl's abdomen, ignoring the screams of protest coming from the blonde behind him as he twisted the knife. A shaky, pained breath left the witch's lips as she stared him in the eyes, a nonchalant look on her face as she pulled her head up and spat on him.
Only angering him more.
Caroline gasped loudly as the man backhanded her best friend, her head snapped to the side—another cut forming on her face from the rings that sat on the former hunter's fingers.
With a clenched jaw he strode over to the blonde and pulled the vervain cloth back up her face—covering her mouth. He took a seat on the desk, lazily propping his legs up on the surface as he observed the two teenagers. His gaze snapped up to the door and his smirk reappeared, "right on time."
The two turned their heads to the door, a sigh of disappointment left their lips as the doppelganger ran in, her eyes landed on the blonde. "Caroline," Elena gasped at the vampire. "Let her go Alaric!"
"Free her yourself," Alaric shrugged.
Jordanna watched Elena carefully, knowing whatever the hell Alaric was up to was not good in the slightest.
The brunette looked from Caroline to Alaric before she began rushing towards the blonde, squatting down as she rubbed the girl's arm in comfort. Elena gently began to pull out the pencil in the blonde's hand, but before she could get it out all the way Alaric rushed over to them, slamming the pencil back down in the girl's pale hand.
Jordanna winced at the pained scream Caroline let out. Elena shot up, anger clear on her face, "you said that you would let her go!"
"How many times do I have to tell you, Elena?" Alaric scolded her with a raised voice. "Stop trusting vampires!"
Elena gulped and cautiously took a seat besides the witch, letting out a small gasp as her eyes scanned over her injuries. Jordanna rolled her eyes before wincing as she twisted her body—the knife still being in her stomach. She took a deep breath as she turned her head after hearing Caroline's weak pleadings.
"No, I don't wanna' please," Caroline's voice cracked as tears rolled down her face. Jordanna and Elena could only watch as Alaric dipped the cloth in vervain water before he approached her. "Please, no more."
"Alaric I swear to God when I get out of this you're gonna wish you killed me," Jordanna threatened as he stood behind the blonde, her eyes burned as they slowly filled with tears—tears for Caroline. Tears for herself, as selfish as it sounded. She watched the man who was like a father to her torture her best friend, it reminded her of her father.
The man raised his eyebrows at her. "If you get out of this."
"Alaric stop!" Elena exclaimed as she stood up from her seat.
"Sit down!" Alaric demanded, pushing the brunette back onto the chair. "This keeps the vervain in her system, it's like inhaling razor blades with every breath," his lips lifted slightly as he placed the cloth back around Caroline's mouth. Watching in amusement as the blonde cried out, writhing in pain.
"Why are you doing this?" Elena demanded. Even in the state she was in Jordanna couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"To make it easier for you when you put them out of their misery," the vampire replied, picking up the white oak stake.
"What? No!" Elena shook her head.
"Isn't this what you wanted Elena?" Alaric asked in false innocence. "For me to teach you how to kill a vampire?" The man held the stake out to her. "Well, here's a vampire, Elena. Kill her."
"This isn't what I wanted," Elena denied.
"Of course it is," Alaric stated. "All those hours you spent training, getting stronger, you could be a hunter, Elena. But you've never actually staked a vampire through the heart."
"Why are you doing this?" Elena questioned, again.
"Because you need me," Alaric growled, coming to a stop in front of the doppelganger. "Because you're an eighteen year old girl without parents or any guidance or any sense of right and wrong anymore."
Elena stared at the man in disgust. "Look at you, how is this right?" She motioned towards Caroline and Jordanna.
Alaric followed her line if sight and pointed the stake in Caroline's direction, "she's a murderer. She told me she killed someone and she liked it!" He turned the stake in Jordanna's direction, "don't even get me started on her! Do you know how many people this girl has killed? Hundreds! Maybe more," his anger grew as he noticed the proud smirk that laid on Jordanna's lips. He gestured to the witch, "you see that? No remorse, no guilt!"
"Now, how is that right? Listen, Elena, your parents led the council. It was their life's mission to keep this town safe. They weren't dead six months before you undid it all!"
"You don't know anything about them!" Elena spat back.
Alaric grinned tauntingly. "Why? Am I wrong? Do you actually think that they'd be proud of you? If you don't side with the humans, you're just as bad as them. Now, kill them," Alaric handed the doppelganger the stake. "Or I'll do it for you and I'll make it hurt. Get up."
The man roughly pulled her up by the arm, forcing her in front of Caroline. Elena stood there for a moment, her eyes flickered between Jordanna and Caroline, the raven haired girl let her eyes fall onto Alaric and back to Elena. The doppelganger furrowed her brows before catching sight of the loosened ropes on Jordanna's feet.
The brunette spun and attempted to stab Alaric only for him to grab her wrist, tightly. "I thought I taught you better than that," Alaric smirked smugly.
"You did," Elena gritted out before smashing the beaker of vervain water on his head. Jordanna took the opportunity to wriggle her feet out of the ropes before silently cursing, she still had a fucking knife in her stomach, slowly bleeding her out.
Fan-fucking-tastic.
What a great day, huh?
She grimaced as she pulled the knife out in one quick motion before limping over to Caroline, helping Elena ( something she will never be doing again ) untie Caroline.
"Get help!" Elena ushered them, Caroline nodded quickly. She didn't need to be told twice, taking a hold of her best friend's hand, she sped them out of the room.
The two breathed heavily as they slowed in the hallway, a small scream of panic left Jordanna's lips as she felt a hand cover her mouth. "Shh, it's okay. It's okay, it's me, you're safe," the familiar soothing voice instantly calmed the girls. Klaus held Jordanna's shaking body to his and his free hand gripped onto Caroline's forearm ━ keeping the two away from harms way.
Jordanna turned to face him, Klaus' eyes sunk at the state of the girl—he dropped his hold on Caroline's arm and instantly bit into his wrist, pulling Jordanna into him as she drank from him. His fingers ran through her hair, holding her close to him before he turned the blonde.
"Take her back to my house," he ordered the Forbes vampire. "My hybrids will keep you two protected-" he handed Jordanna over to Caroline hesitantly. "Go."
Jordanna lent forward, pulling herself from Caroline's grip, placing a kiss on his cheek, "thank you."
✧
"Will you stop pacing?" Caroline snapped as Jordanna paced up and down the main room of the Mikaelson Mansion.
Jordanna sent her a look of irritation and in spite, began pacing faster causing Caroline to groan, throwing her body further back into the couch.
"He's taking his fucking time, don't you think?" Jordanna asked, panic evident in her tone.
Though Caroline looked amused, seeing Jordanna worried for someone other than herself, Bonnie or Stefan was rare. "He'll be fine, Jords, he's Klaus Mikaelson for Gods sake-" the blonde suddenly cut herself off, ears perking up. "He's back."
Jordanna stopped pacing as she turned to the door way, awaiting Klaus' arrival.
A few seconds later the hybrid himself strode into the room, Jordanna sighed in relief, rushing to him and pulling him in for a tight hug. The man exhaled loudly before relaxing into it, placing his arms around her waist as hers sat around his neck. Klaus and Caroline exchanged an awkward smile from over Jordanna's shoulder before she let him go.
The hybrid winced, a deadpanned expression morphing on his face as Jordanna harshly slapped him on the shoulder, "what the bloody hell was that for?"
"You took your fucking time, didn't you? You had me worried for a second you asshole," Jordanna seethed.
"Only for a second?" Klaus teased—wincing once again as she sent him another slap, he raised his hands in surrender. "Alright . . . alright. I had some business to take care of."
"You had . . . " she trailed off as she caught sight of an unconscious Elena being carried into the room before she was placed down onto a chair. "Oh, lord."
Caroline's mouth gaped open as she looked between the couple, "I-"
Jordanna spun round quickly, as though she forgot the blonde was there. "You can't be here when she wakes up," she pulled the blonde off the couch and turned her towards the door. "Go home and stay there until I call you, okay?"
"Okay," Caroline nodded, wrapping her arms around the witch. She turned to Klaus with a small, hesitant smile, "thank you for.. uh—"
"No worries . . . " Klaus smiled tightly.
Jordanna held in a snort at the awkwardness before ushering Caroline away.
The witch turned back to face Klaus with a smile, he cupped her cheeks with his hands, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. "Get some rest, sweetheart," he pressed his forehead against hers. "I'll be there soon."
Jordanna nodded, placing a quick kiss on his cheek before she made her way to his bedroom.
✧
A groan escaped Jordanna's lips as loud yelling pulled her from her comfortable slumber. She rubbed her eyes before making her way downstairs to find the source of the noise and shut it the hell up.
"Tyler, help me!"
An agitated sigh left Jordanna's lips as she heard the doppelganger's whiney voice desperately call out. The witch leant against the doorway watching with sceptical eyes, Tyler heard the witch enter with his amplified hearing and looked at her uneasily.
She shrugged and gestured towards the tied up doppelganger with raised eyebrows, the hybrid turned to his friend and began walking her way before a voice stopped him.
"He can't," Klaus' voice echoed through the room as he stood behind Jordanna in the doorway. "He needs to fetch me more empty blood bags, about three litres worth, please, Tyler."
The pair watched as Tyler hesitated, looking between them and Elena. While Tyler was having his little internal battle Klaus leaned down to Jordanna's ear, "you were going to let him take her? Here I thought you'd be happy to see the doppelganger dead."
A scoff left the witch's lips, "who's to say I was going to let him do anything? Besides, he wouldn't have gotten far with your creepy lurking."
A smirk pulled onto Klaus' lips as he put an arm over Jordanna's shoulder, pulling her into him as he dragged her further into the room with him.
"Tyler please," Elena begged. "Get, Damon. Please."
"No, Tyler. Get the bags," Klaus spoke condescendingly. Tyler looked between Jordanna, Klaus and Elena before attempting to speed towards the doppelganger but failed miserably as a force held him in place. He gulped as he looked up at Jordanna, she rose her eyebrows at him.
"Forget the girl and get the bags," Klaus gritted out in annoyance. "Now." Tyler gave Elena one last fleeting look before storming out of the room.
Elena tugged on the ropes that bound her body to the chair as Klaus and Jordanna circled her, intimidatingly.
"So that's it?" Elena spoke. "You're just gonna bleed me dry?"
"Yes, but don't worry . . . " Klaus leant down to whisper in her ear. "It'll be completely painless. As the last drop is drawn . . . you'll simply fall asleep."
"You know . . . " Jordanna squatted in front of the doppelganger with a malicious smile as she stared up at the hybrid. "There are more fun, painful, ways to we can bleed her out."
Elena's eyes widened as Klaus chuckled deeply. "Don't worry, sweetheart, you'll have you fun, but for now.." Klaus' lips upturned into a smirk as he sped them out of the room and back to the bedroom, "we can have our own fun."
✧
After an hour or so the pair returned back downstairs to check on Elena—much to Jordanna's distaste.
Jordanna pouted her lips mockingly as she circled the pale girl.
"You'll need more than this to create your army," Elena's raspy voice told Klaus.
Klaus grabbed a blood bag from a passing nurse and observed it closely, "these last litres will have to suffice. You see, by attempting to kill us my mother strengthened the bond between my siblings and I. I don't need hybrids," his eyes flickered to Jordanna, a smile graced his lips. "I have my family."
"If you believe that, then why take my blood at all? You want a backup family, you know that your siblings will never trust you again," Elena shook her head.
"You know Stefan blamed me for trying to tear him from his brother, but I think we all know who really came between them," Klaus stopped besides Jordanna with a smirk.
"You," Jordanna's face held a smug smile as flashes of annoyance and fear flicker through the brunette's eyes.
"That's why you won't choose, you know once you pick a Salvatore, you'll destroy their bond," Klaus smirked as sped down to Elena. "Mhm. Consider this me doing you a favour, once you're dead you won't have to choose. No broken hearts, their family stays intact," the hybrid tilted his head after a moment as a sly smile fell on his lips. "But just between us girls, who would you have picked?"
Jordanna chuckled, patting him on the shoulder, "I swear you're a teenage girl at heart."
Klaus' eyes flickered up to her as she moved to the other side of Elena.
"Rot in hell," Elena spat.
Klaus and Jordanna shared amused looks at the doppelganger's words. "Mhm," Klaus nodded his head slightly. "You're welcome, sweet dreams, Elena. It's been fun."
"Hm," Jordanna hummed, clicking her tongue. "Agree to disagree."
Klaus smiled at Elena as he grabbed onto Jordanna's hand, pulling her with him as they left the room.
✧
Jordanna's hands ran through her damp hair after she removed the towel from her head—she had left Klaus alone to taunt Elena while she got in the shower, removing the blood from her body.
She pulled one of Klaus' henley's over her head and a pair of shorts. She made her way over to the bed—pulling the silk sheets back, stopping abruptly as she heard a scream.
Her brows furrowed as she moved—making her way towards the source of the screams. Her heart thudded against her rib cage as she soon recognised that the familiar yells belonged to Klaus.
"Nik!" She called out as her eyes caught sight of his desiccated body. Her teary eyes held anger behind them as she looked up to Damon and Tyler in fury. She raised her hands, balling them into fists—ready to rip their hearts from their chest as Matt rushed behind her and clamped the spelled handcuffs around her wrist.
"Matt?" Her voice broke slightly in betrayal, Matt gulped as he looked away, Damon and Tyler had dragged him into this mess—giving him two jobs:
1) Vervain Stefan and lock him in the Lockwood cellar, ( preventing him from getting in the way of their plans and informing Jordanna of Damon and Tyler's plan ).
2) Handcuff the witch so she had no way of killing the three as they executed their plan.
Tyler slowly laid the Mikaelson's body to the ground, Jordanna thrashed about in the Donovan's grip before breaking free. She rushed over to Klaus and dropped down besides his body, she cupped his face with her trembling hands.
"Klaus? Hey, Nik?" She breathed out as tears fell from her eyes. "Hey.. hey, hey," she slapped his cheek lightly as his eyes focused on her. "I'm gonna fix this, okay? Okay.." Jordanna shot up, frantically looking around the room for one of her Grimoires, she rushed over to the book shelf she found it on ━ her eyes teared up at how many little arguments her and Klaus would have over her leaving it lying around the house for him to trip on ( which he did, multiple times )
She grabbed the spell book and turned back to Klaus, she flinched as she felt a hand on her arm—turning she faced Tyler. "What? What the fuck. . ." She trailed off as she watched Damon and Matt pick up Klaus' stilled body. "What the fuck are you doing?" She thrashed about.
Tyler sighed and took the book from her hands. "There's not much you can do, Jords." The hybrid gestured to the handcuffs, the witch looked down—almost forgetting that they were there. She pulled on her wrists in an attempt to free her hands, but failed.
"Get your filthy hands off me you dog," Jordanna spat before throwing her head forward—head butting the werewolf. Tyler stumbled back in shock before rushing at the witch as she tried to escape.
"I am sorry, Jordanna," Tyler spoke softly. Jordanna winced as she felt a prick in the side of her neck.
"You son of a bitch," she whispered before her body fell limp in his arms.
