chapter one
missed me?
━✧━
KLAUS OPENED ALARIC'S closet and scoffed, taking out two shirts. "Who is this guy Safari Sam?" He angled the two shirts towards the fearful doppelganger, mischief dancing in his eyes. "Okay, bad or badder?" He questioned her.
"The dark colours suit you better," Katherine answered quietly, placing her trembling hands under her thighs—attempting to hide her blatant fear from Klaus' gaze.
"Oh! Thank you honey," he mocked in fake gratitude. "Okay pop quiz. The dagger and white ash are in the Salvatore's possession, correct?"
"The dagger was used to kill Elijah," she explained warily. "You'll find him in the basement of the Salvatore house," Katherine finished with a sigh of defeat, looking away from the Mikaelson.
"Okay," he drawled out. "That dagger needs to stay exactly where it is. The last thing I need to do is resurrect Elijah, that guy is a buzzkill," Klaus laughed thinking of his older brother.
"Don't forget you're on the outs with your girlfriend Jenna," she informed him, another small sigh slipped from her lips as she anxiously tapped the heal of her stiletto against the hardwood floor.
"Right. Elena's aunt, for all the lies about Isobel. What else?" He rose his brows, needing to know more about a certain witch he had heard about, if she was as powerful as everyone had made her out to be, she'd be a problem.
He couldn't let problems get in the way of his ritual.
Not after he had waited this long.
"That's it," Katherine turned away, avoiding his curious gaze. She, surprisingly enough, liked the witch. Jordanna reminded her of herself in a way. She didn't want her to be in Klaus' bad books just like she was.
It was a fickle relationship between herself and Jordanna. She was the only one in Mystic Falls who liked her—or well, tolerated her. After knowing her for just short of three years they had became somewhat friends.
Klaus walked to the scared vampire—smiling sadistically as she flinched. "Oh, so jumpy," he taunted, an amused smirk spread across his face.
"Please just-" she breathed out in fear, pausing to take a breath. "Just kill me. I've told you everything that I know."
"You see, I believe that you believe that, but what would you not know? What could they be keeping from you? Anything? Tell me," he demanded, leaning down so that he was eye level with her, eyes focused on the Petrova as he began to compel her.
"They were trying to see if Bonnie could find a way to kill an original without a dagger," she finally let out, unwillingly.
"Bonnie the best friend?" The original asked, arching a brow. "I thought you said she doesn't have her powers anymore?"
"She doesn't, or didn't. I don't know. You kidnapped me remember? I'm sorta' out of the loop," she responded, a slight snarky tone to her voice that only seemed to bring the Mikaelson more amusement.
"Well, we'll have to get to the bottom of that," he dismissed. "You happened to have forgotten to mention a certain someone," he hummed, getting closer to her, an inquisitive brow rose. "I've been told that there was a Jones witch involved," he jeered. "Her name Katerina?"
"Jordanna Jones," she trembled, fearing what would happen after keeping a secret from Klaus. "Don't hurt her, Klaus," she managed out, swallowing roughly. "She has nothing to do with this. With you."
She knew if Jordanna saw her now she'd laugh at her, the two girls almost as bad as each other. Jordanna and Katherine met long before the 'Scooby Gang' met her, Jordanna was a 15 year old girl in the woods of California hiding two dead bodies. Yes, that's how Katherine had met the young girl, she helped her get away with murder.
Katherine once had to face an angry Jordanna when she killed Caroline and it was not pretty—all she was going to say was that there was a nail covered baseball bat involved and her flawless face didn't look so, well, flawless.
She wouldn't recommend pissing her off.
"I am delighted to meet this one. The 'All Powerful Jones Witch' it's going to be an honour," he mocked, a teasing smile on his lips ( or, well—Alaric's lips, which was super gross, by the way! ).
"Just kill me Klaus, and be done with it," the doppelganger begged, taking the subject off of her only friend.
"And show you kindness? I've searched for you for over five hundred years," The Original started. "Your death is going to be at least half that long," he told her—a smirk plastered on his face. In all honestly—after so long he hadn't a care for Katherine. He gave up looking for her. But he liked to keep her on her toes, liked to keep her paranoid—ensuring that she was always looking behind her back wherever she was.
Grabbing a knife from his pocket he held it out to her. "I want you take this knife and stab yourself," he told her, a toothy grin forming on his face as he saw the fear increase in her eyes.
She hesitantly took the knife with shaking hands, wincing as she stabbed herself in the thigh. "Now take it out," Klaus watched as she removed the knife from her leg, the broken skin healing itself. "Do it again."
She unwillingly complied. "Now, while I'm gone I want you to do that over and over and over again, and if you get bored switch legs," he innocently suggested, a small, smug smile sitting on his lips.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to lay eyes on my precious doppelganger," he responded, chastely kissing her forehead. "Oh, don't look so glum Katerina, the fun is just beginning," he said, walking away to leave the apartment before he spoke up once again, voice echoing after him, "Again!"
✧
"Missed me?" The witch, leant on the Salvatore Boarding House doorway with an unlit cigarette hanging out of her mouth, crooned, causing the four heads to turn her way.
There stood Jordanna Jones in all her glory, her raven hair running down her back, her blue eyes twinkling slightly in the light. Her right hand hitched on her hip and her left hand gripped tightly onto the bag perched on her shoulder.
Bonnie let out a squeal of excitement and ran into Jordanna's awaiting arms. "Missed you too, Bon-Bon," she said against the Bennett witch's head, a smile tugged at her lips before another pair of arms wrapped around her tightly. "Hey Elena," she drawled, awkwardly patting the brunette on her back—a grimace accompanying her face, she let her two friends out of her grip before turning to the Salvatore brothers with a menacing grin.
"Hello boys," the witch grinned.
"When the hell did you get back?" Damon Salvatore exclaimed, walking towards his friend, wrapping his arms around her short frame—the witch pulled a face when she met Stefan's eyes as she looked over the elder Salvatore's shoulder.
"Last night," she hummed, inhaling his intoxicating cologne with a grimace. Ew, too strong.
Damon scoffed, "and you didn't think to call?"
She let out a small laugh before replying. "I was tired," she answered—shrugging her shoulders innocently.
"Hey Stefano," she said ruffling the younger Salvatore's hair, to which he responded by swatting her hand away. "Jords," he smiled as a greeting to the girl he saw as a sister.
Bonnie handed Elena her jacket, the Gilbert nodding in thanks as she shrugged the material on. Stefan frowned as he watched her, "wait, where are you going?"
"To school," the doppelganger simply replied.
Jordanna had been away in Chicago visiting her mom's old friend for a few weeks, but Caroline kept her updated on everything happening in sweet little Mystic Falls.
How fun!
She had to get away for a while—from everything that was going on. After Rose had died, she needed space. She hadn't gotten close to someone outside of her 'inner circle' for a while, but there was something about Rose that . . . enticed Jordanna. But then she died . . . and she couldn't bare to be around her friends, especially if she would receive pitied looks from them every two seconds. She didn't need the pity.
But I guess that's what she'd get from having a 'fling' with said vampire and then her dying.
"No, no," Damon started, shaking his head rapidly. "We didn't create a safe house for you to leave it," he said in an obvious tone.
Jordanna took a seat on one of the chairs in the hallway, lighting a cigarette as she watched them converse, merely too lazy to join in with the conversation, not like it was important, just the usual, ( the Salvatore brothers doing everything and anything to protect their precious doppelganger ).
"Yeah guys, Klaus is out there. We know that," Stefan said, shaking his head at the doppelganger in confusion.
"Right. But where?" Elena snapped, Jordanna let out a small laugh—chocking on the smoke, earning a glare from Damon who swatted the smoke away with a grimace.
"Well-" the older Salvatore started, only to be cut off by the Gilbert girl.
"No one knows," she snapped again before her tone turned softer, a sigh fell from her lips. "Look, I really appreciate what you guys are doing and I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that I'll be safe here, but I'm not going to be a prisoner."
Stefan rose his eyebrows at the girl, holding his hands up in surrender—that being his answer causing all heads turn to Damon. "Tsk. Your way, Elena," he said with a sarcastic smile.
"Don't worry I'm ready," Bonnie reassured him as he looked her way. "If he shows his face, I can take him. Know how," she told them all.
Jordanna cleared her throat and threw a shit eating grin toward her friends. "Plus I'm here," she said in a cocky tone. Inhaling the smoke from her cigarette, she spoke again. "I'll keep Elena safe, don't you worry boys." Damon rolled his eyes at the girl while Elena threw her a small thank you smile in gratitude.
And while she meant what she said, she would try to keep Elena safe, but if her life ended up on the line? It wouldn't be worth it.
Sorry Elena.
She was selfish, sue her. She hadn't done all of what she did for no reason, it was for survival. She wouldn't throw it all away just to be killed . . .
"Are we going orrr?" She drawled out. "I kind of wanna' see Care-Bear," she huffed, she missed her control freak of a best friend. Sure they talked on the phone every night while she was away, but it wasn't the same.
"Come on," Elena said, heading towards the door.
Stefan scoffed before calling out, "wait, I'm coming".
"Oh! I'll drive," Jordanna squealed before snatching the keys out the doppelgangers hand and skipped happily to the car.
✧
Caroline walked down the busy corridor, a bored expression etched on her face. She sent false smiles to those in passing just as she reached her locker, only to find a very familiar witch leant against it. "JJ!" She screamed out in happiness, throwing herself in the older girl's arms. This was the longest the two had gone without seeing each other and it was weird, to say the least.
Jordanna had always been there for Caroline, as Caroline had been for Jordanna. When Jordanna's mom died she stayed at the Forbes residence for a month, not leaving the house once as she was still grieving (that was until they had to sort out all the legal shit, foster care . . . adoption . . . yada yada). When Bill Forbes left, Caroline and Jordanna had ran away together—well they tried. The aim was to get to Jordanna's family house in Italy, the furthest they got was some random country neither of them knew how to pronounce.
She was there for Caroline even before she became a vampire, their other friends had them off moments where they thought she was 'too much' or 'irritating', but Jordanna didn't, she thought it made Caroline who she was and she loved her for it.
They trusted each other with their lives, their deepest, darkest secrets.
Caroline Forbes knew the truth behind Howard Adams' death and she swore she'd take it to the grave, and that's exactly what she'll do.
"Hey Care," Jordanna grinned, pulling away from her beaming best friend, before it turned to a scowl as the blonde hit her across the head with a note book she held in her hand.
"Ow! What the hell-" she hissed only to be cut off by Caroline's voice.
"Seriously! Why the hell didn't you tell me you was coming home?" The blonde argued.
The raven haired girl rolled her eyes, head tilting to the side. "Well, I'm sorry for wanting to surprise my best friend," she started with fake hurt as she held her hand up against her heart. "Won't happen again. Promise. No surprises."
Caroline was the one to roll her eyes at the girl's dramatics, she let out a sigh and immediately linked arms with the witch's before they sauntered down the hallway together—catching up on lost time.
✧
Jordanna, Bonnie, Elena and Stefan were all sat in Alaric's classroom; waiting for the history teacher to arrive. "So, there's a disposed Original just laying in the basement?" Jordanna questioned her friends, holding her cherry flavoured lollipop in her right hand as she mindlessly twirled a strand of hair around the other.
The three had just finished filling the Jones witch in on any information Caroline had missed, turns out the 'Scooby Gang' had a lot of fun whilst she was away, shame she missed it.
She had met Elijah a few times—initially the first time was when he showed up at the Gilbert residence when Jordanna was there. The Original took an immediate liking to the girl. Her arrogance and need for power reminded him of a certain Original—there was even those odd moments when he'd find himself being reminded of his sister whilst he was in the Jones' presence.
"Yep," Elena responded, nodding her head lightly.
"Gross," she started. "Doesn't it smell? Like y'know.. death?" She asked curiously before putting the lollipop back in her mouth. Elena and Bonnie both laughed at the girl's bluntness as a student passed the doppelganger a poster for the 60's Decade Dance.
The Gilbert looked towards Stefan, holding the poster for him to see, the vampire shook his head with a frown on his face.
Elena rolled her eyes before turning to Bonnie and Jordanna, now showing them the poster. They grinned in response. Elena turned to Stefan with a big, smug look on her face, knowing she had won—just as Alaric entered the classroom.
"Hello class," Klaric greeted as he walked over to the desk, carelessly dropping his bag on the top of it. "What are we learning today?" Jordanna snorted at the history teachers dishevelled state, what the hell was up his ass?
Jordanna was pulled from her thoughts as she felt a tap on her shoulder, startling the witch slightly before she regained her posture. Daddy issues trauma, yikes! Cue dramatic eye roll . . .
She turned around to be welcomed with the smirking face of Colin? "Hi," she greeted boredly, tone dry as she plastered a fake smile on her lips.
"I, uh, I just wanted to ask you something," he said, trembling on his words. His friends quietly cheered him on in the back, making Jordanna cringe.
"You wanna know if I'll go out with you?" She asked at a guess, squinting her eyes at him slightly before an amused smile pulled at her lips.
"Pfft. No, what?" He scoffed sheepishly before looking away with a sigh. "H-How'd you know?"
Because everyone wants to go out with me, duh.
"Listen . . ." she trailed off, not knowing his name—oh God! Was it Brody? Or Chad? Callum maybe?
"Colin," the boy stated, confidence faltering slightly.
Pfft. Not even close.
"Right... Colin, I'm flattered but... no," she deadpanned, turning her attention to Alaric again, who was already watching them with narrowed eyes. The Mikaelson internally rolled his eyes, teenage boys—what disgusting creatures.
She put her lollipop back in her mouth and noticed Alaric's staring, must be cause I'm back she thought. But it wasn't, Klaus could feel the power radiating off of her, he was intrigued by the young girl. Of course he knew who she was—majority of the supernatural community did, the Jones witch. Other than the reputation she had built for herself, he only knew little from what Katherine informed him.
He could see why everyone was so infatuated by the girl, she was truly gorgeous.
"With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the 60's all week," Dana answered with a smile, snapping Klaus out of his daze.
Klaus coughed awkwardly, nodding his head, "right, the 60's . . ."
Turning to face the board he caught sight of Elena, a ghost of a smirk appeared on his face as he turned to the board. He was one step closer to getting everything he had ever wanted.
"The uh . . ." he cleared his throat before continuing. "The 60's. Wish there was something good I could say about the 60's, but actually they kind of sucked," he pursed his lips, turning to face the class.
"What about The Rolling Stones?" Jordanna called out, furrowing her brows as she played with the lollipop in her hand. Her mother was obsessed with The Rolling Stones, she practically grew up listening to them her entire childhood—of course that was until her father ( may he not rest in peace ) killed her mother ever-so-violently. Now she couldn't stomach the thought of having to listen to them, too many memories—yuck! "Oh! Or Breakfast at Tiffany's!"
Klaus turned his attention to the witch, he tilted his head slightly before responding. "Can't say I watched that one, Jordanna." Klaus response stiffly. "But The Rolling Stones are alright. Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the uh—we walked on the moon," he listed as he paced back and forth. "There was Watergate-"
"Watergate was the 70's Ric," Elena cut in smiling towards the teacher. "Uh I-I mean Mr Saltzman," she corrected herself, blushing slightly in embarrassment.
Jordanna stifled an eyeroll as she looked between Elena and Alaric. She didn't see a problem, he had literally told them to call him Ric . . . but whatever.
"Right, uh, it all gets mushed together up here," the teacher gestured to his head. "The 60's, the 70's," he rambled, offering Elena a sickly sweet smile. "Thank you, Elena."
✧
Elena and Bonnie headed to the cafeteria whilst Jordanna and Caroline went outside to get it ready for the dance. "Hey, Dana," the blonde greeted kindly as she and Jordanna walked outside.
"Hey," Dana replied, not looking up from the large sheet of paper—too interested in painting the poster for the dance. Jordanna however ignored the brunette's presence, they did not get along. Like at all.
Dana was that annoying girl in school. Now, you know who I'm talking about. The one who was always the loudest in class, the attention had to be on her . . . and it annoyed Jordanna to the extent where she put Dana at the back during cheerleading practice—where no one could see, nor hear her . . . what? It was petty and stupid, yes. But Jordanna was petty . . . soooo it worked out pretty well for her.
Caroline spotted Matt approaching them and looked at Jordanna almost pleadingly, the witch scoffed before nodding her head in the direction of Matt in a go ahead kind of gesture.
"Gross," she muttered, shuddering as she watched the two share a kiss, she didn't have a problem with Matt but she just couldn't see him and Caroline together it was weird.
While the two lovers were talking, Jordanna decided to start getting the decorations ready for the decade dance. "Adrian!" She shrieked, scaring the boy. "You can't just throw them on!" She seethed. Roughly pulling the streamers from his grip, before muttering under her breath, "so help me god one day I'm going to burn this school down."
✧
"So we go to the dance and find him," Damon stated as they all gathered at the Salvatore house.
"Really? How are we gonna' do that?" Stefan questioned as he leant against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. "We don't even know what he looks like."
Damon rolled his eyes at his brother, "something tells me he's not going to be 16 and pimply," he said sassily.
"I bet he's hot," Jordanna said, ignoring the judgemental looks she was getting from her friends before continuing. "It's always the hot ones," she told them, nodding at her own words.
They all gave her pointed looks—which merely encouraged her to continue. "What?" She asked, looking between them all. "It's true. Like in Scream you have Billy Loomis and Stu Marcher. Or, Scarecrow . . . you know, Cillian Murphy? Ooo!" She exclaimed, face lighting up. "And that hot chick from Jennifer's body. I can't remember her name though . . ."
Stefan ignored the girl, rolling his eyes slightly as he watched her light another cigarette before he continued. "He could be anywhere at anytime," he said. "He compelled somebody at school," the vampire rose his eyebrows. "Guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?" He questioned them, just as someone knocked on the door.
"Oh my God," Jordanna breathed out. "Thank you Captain Obvious for clearing that up for us. You have been ever so helpful," sarcasm laced her tone as the Salvatore shot her a look, she merely sent him a grin in response, her glossy lips held amusement on them as she watched him fight off his own smile. Just then, Klaus entered the Boarding House, placing himself between Bonnie and Stefan.
"There you are," Damon said to his friend with a huff.
"Sorry I'm late," Klaus apologised falsely as he looked around the room, his eyes lingering on Jordanna in suspicion.
She was watching him closely with narrowed eyes before exclaiming, "just me or is Ric weirdly attractive today?" She said turning to the others before facing Klaric again. "The hell you been drinking?" She asked as she picked at his hair as if she were inspecting it, "is there some weird holy water lake I don't know about?"
Klaus swatted her hand away but couldn't hide the small smile that formed on his face at the girl. Full disclosure, the smile was an 'impression' of Alaric, not his own—he wanted to make that clear. Damon rolled his eyes at her antics before turning to Alaric. "Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight," he said as Jordanna huffed dramatically before taking a seat.
"Klaus made his first move," he informed the history teacher with a head tilt.
"Okay, so we find him and then what? Hm?" The doppelganger started. "What's our plan of attack?" She shrugged her shoulders in question.
Whilst Jordanna rummaged through her purse to find a lollipop Bonnie almost instantly answered. "Me," looking around at them all, she continued. "I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel."
Well he does now, Klaus' lips twitched.
"If you can find him, I can kill him," she said almost sinisterly, Jordanna looked up, a smile creeping on her face.
"My, my, Bonnie Bennett!" Jordanna squealed of pride. "Who knew you had it in you, huh?" She said, causing Damon to turn to her.
"Well what about you, huh?" The elder Salvatore questioned as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Can't you use your 'all powerful witchy spells' on him?" He asked, mocking her words.
Jordanna rolled her eyes and flipped him off as she responded. "Well, yeah," she said in a duh tone. "I just don't feel like getting killed tonight, no offence 'Lena," she shrugged her shoulders as if it was the most obvious thing in the world and began to unwrap her lollipop. She knew she would get involved anyway, she always did and she always won.
Not to sound cocky or anything . . .
Klaus looked at the girl in curiosity; if she had the power to kill him, why wasn't she going to use it? "That's not gonna be easy, I mean he is the biggest, baddest vampire around," he spoke up, earning a snort from Jordanna.
The Jones shot him a weirded look. "Kiss ass," she crooned.
"Alaric has a point, I mean what if he-" Damon spoke, stopping himself short as he charged at the Bennett witch, who in turn simply held her hand up and the vampire went flying across the room. Everyone, except Jordanna who played with her hair mindlessly, looked at the young witch in shock.
"Well I was impressed," Stefan said with a smug look, eyes darting from his brother to the Bennett witch.
"You'd be impressed watching paint dry," Jordanna said in a bored tone earning a playful glare from the youngest Salvatore.
"It doesn't matter if he's an Original," Bonnie explained shooting Jordanna a look. "I can take down anyone who comes at me, I can kill him Elena," she said looking at the brunette with hope. "I know I can."
Jordanna watched her carefully—sceptical of the consequences of Bonnie's actions, knowing that something was bound to go wrong.
It always did.
