Alphabet Boy
Note: Okay, so I've had this idea for a while but I had no clue how to go about writing it haha XD But I did finally figure it out so here it is :)
Elementary School - Age 12
Jake Riley walked into class that day with a smug expression that I wished I could just slap off of his face. Ever since he and his mom had moved into town, he had irritated me. Unfortunately, Jake was my next-door neighbor so I had to see him on a daily basis - whether it was going to get the mail or just looking out of my bedroom window that looked into his.
I rolled my eyes as he plopped down in the seat behind me.
Always aiming paper airplanes at me when you're around
As class started, Jake thew a paper airplane at me, hitting me in the back of the head. I clenched my jaw and tried to ignore him.
You build me up like building blocks just so you can bring me down
"Oh, Natalie, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hit you..." he whispered to me as I finally turned around to look at him, "...that hard."
You can crush my candy cane but you'll never catch me cry
He smirked then and I just scoffed, spinning back around.
Graduation Day - Age 18
If you dangle that diploma and I dead, you, don't be surprised
It was graduation day now and just as my name was called, Jake tripped me with his foot as I stepped out onto the stage. I bit the floor, face-first, in front of everyone.
I know my ABCs, yet you keep teaching me
As soon as I got up, I charged over to a grinning Jake and swung my fist at him, knocking him in the jaw.
Let's just say it was a good day after all.
College - Age 20
I say, your degree, alphabet boy
You think you're smarter than me with all your bad poetry
I say, your degree, alphabet boy
All your ABCs, alphabet boy
Jake had gotten his degree before I had and he just loved waving it in my face, gloating about how he was better than me since he'd passed Drama and I hadn't.
I'm not a little kid now
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
"Would you quit?!" I yelled at him, shoving him away from me, "I'm 20 years old! I'm not that dumb little kid that you can just push around anymore, Jake!"
His eyes softened for a split-second before that arrogant gleam returned to them.
"Actually, as long as I'm three months older and taller, I can and will !" he smirked.
"UGH!!!" I shouted as I stormed away from him, his dark laughter seeming to follow me.
You won the spelling bee now,
But are you smarter than me now?
I slammed down my phone as the call ended. Apparently, Jake had been accepted into the Police Academy...ahead of me. Why did this always happen? He got everything first and it wasn't even fair! I worked ten times harder than he did but it never mattered!
Police Academy - Age 21
You're the prince of the playground,
Little alphabet boy
I had finally made it into the Police Academy and I couldn't be happier. Well...I guess I could be. Jake unfortunately had authority over me since he had been here longer. He acted like he was the prince of this place and I was his poor, filthy subject.
Police Academy Graduation Day - Age 23
The day had finally arrived - graduation day. If I was lucky, this would be the last day I'd have to see Jake. The commanding officer walked down the line, handing out papers. I took mine gratefully, smirking at Jake who was standing on the side-lines.
Virus Outbreak - Present Day
"Alright? You're the one who sent me in here!" Jake shouted into his cellphone.
My heart constricted in my chest and the walls felt like they were closing in around me. We were all going to die. Tears pricked my eyes at the thought. I glared over at Jake.
Apples aren't always appropriate apologies
Butterscotch and bubblegum drops are bittersweet to me
"This is all your fault!" I screamed at him.
He looked remorseful as he turned to me.
"I'm sorry, Natalie. I didn't mean for any of this to happen." he apologized.
"We're going to die in here because of you!" I told him.
You call me a child while you keep counting all your coins
But you're not my daddy and I'm not your dolly
And your dictionary's destroyed
"Oh, grow up! Don't be such a child! We're going to be fine," he said as he stalked off.
"Don't treat me like that! You're not my dad!" I yelled after him, throwing my helmet at the wall beside him.
Jake whipped around to glare at me.
I know my ABCs, yet you keep teaching me
I say, your degree, alphabet boy
You think you're smarter than me with all your bad poetry
I say, your degree, alphabet boy
All your ABCs, alphabet boy
I'm not a little kid now
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
"Well maybe you shouldn't act like a little kid then I wouldn't have to!" he said.
"I am NOT!" I scoffed at the accusation.
You won the spelling bee now,
But are you smarter than me now?
You're the prince of the playground,
Little alphabet boy
"Oh really? Prove it then! Prove to me than you're not a little whiny kid who I don't need to look after anymore!" he said, his face dangerously close to mine now.
Alphabet boy
Oh, alphabet boy
Alphabet boy
His blue eyes bored into mine and suddenly, on a whim, I did something impulsive. I kissed him. My lips crashed into his and I could feel his shock. And then he surprised me...He kissed back. Jake Riley, the annoying boy next-door I'd grown up, kissed me back.
Alphabet boy
My alphabet boy
Ooh-ooh
I never expected it. His lips were warm and soft and melded with mine. I lost myself in it and his hands found my waist, pulling me even closer. My hands snaked up to his neck, my fingers getting tangled in his short brown hair. There were sparks and fireworks in his kiss that I never knew could be possible.
I didn't even know I'd been harboring feelings for him...maybe all this time, I had and never knew it. We both broke away then and looked into each other's eyes.
I'm not a little kid now
"I'm not a little kid now." I whispered against his lips, almost shivering at the close proximity.
Watch me get big now
Spell my name on the fridge now
With all your alphabet toys
He nodded at me and a grin lit up his face, "I know that, Nat."
You won the spelling bee now,
But are you smarter than me now?
"Does this...mean we're together now?" I asked nervously.
"What do you think?" he asked softly, leaning into kiss me again.
You're the prince of the playground,
Little alphabet boy
My eyes fluttered closed as I lost myself once more to his kiss. His lips moved over mine, occasionally leaving my mouth to kiss my jawline before coming back to my lips again.
I don't know how it happened...but I think I was falling for Jake Riley...that annoying alphabet boy...
