sunghoon almost tripped as he quickly picked up his shoes, putting them on.

he almost jumped out of his seat earlier when he saw that jake finally replied to him. he did not mind waiting for the guy, but he was trying so hard not to call jake yesterday and ask him if he's fine.

thank gods he texted back. i was about to lose my mind while overthinking.

"is that a date? you seem like you're too excited." he got startled when he heard his mom talk. she was standing behind him, wearing an apron and eyeing sunghoon from head to toe.

"mom-"

"that's not sunoo right? because jay told me last time that sunoo dumped you. so, who is it?"

jay, you fucking snitch. he smiled fake towards his mother. "mom, don't listen to whatever jay's saying to you. he's not in his right mind."

she raised an eyebrow at him. "so sunoo didn't reject you? i actually like that boy, he looks so cute."

"he did reject me. and how did you even know what he looks like?"

"jay sent me a picture of him," sunghoon just rolled his eyes and grabbed his phone and wallet.

should i also expose jay to his mother?

he looked at his mother and sighed. "his name's jake, mom."

he saw how her eyes sparkled with interest and is now grinning. "really?"

he nodded. "i'll tell you more about him soon, okay?"

if everything goes well later... but i hope it will.

when sunghoon arrived at jake's apartment, the guy is already outside the building- waiting for him.

a smile etched his lips when he saw how jake changes his expression while scrolling through his phone. he's so cute.

"yunie."

jake quickly raised his head, pouting as he glanced at sunghoon's direction.

"i told you not to call me that. it sounds weird," he even looked at sunghoon with a scowling face.

he chuckled. "why not? i like it."

"whatever, let's hurry up so that we'd have more time in the amusement park." jake pulled his arm and dragged him towards his car, while sunghoon's just staring at him.

something feels... different. or is it just me? sunghoon tried to shake the thought off his mind. he's probably just overthinking.

jake nodded while chewing on his pasta. he drank some water before speaking. "does it bother you? sorry, i should've asked your permission first before posting your pictures."

"no, it's fine actually. you can post pictures of me, i don't mind." sunghoon smiled and went back eating, trying to hide the happiness that he actually feels.

he's taking pictures of me? every little thing that he does is just too precious.

"woah, so pretty." jake sighed as he watched the colorful lights below them.

they're now standing on the railings just slightly above the booths.

he stared at jake. as the boy admired the lanterns, sunghoon was busy admiring the emotions on jake's face.

to be honest, sunghoon never expected this to happen. he once told himself that he could never move on from sunoo- and that he'll always be in love with him.

but he met jake.

he promised himself that he'll never use jake as a tool so he could forget sunoo, that's why sunghoon never really told him that he likes him- even though he already fell.

he wanted to make sure of his feelings first, because he doesn't want to hurt jake. jake's too pure, and i don't think i can handle it if i break his heart.

but right now, sunghoon thinks that it's finally the time to tell him. because i don't wanna keep this any longer.

"...hoon? what are you thinking?" sunghoon snapped out of his thoughts when jake called him softly.

he shook his head. "nothing, just you."

jake got confused. "what?"

"i'm just thinking of how lucky i am to be with you right now." sunghoon faced jake, who is now slightly flustered; the blush on his cheeks is evident.

"jake, you know i like spending my time with you right?" sunghoon took a step forward, but jake was quick to also take one step back.

"yes, of course. i mean, i love hanging out with you too-"

"and i want to spend more time with you, but not as friends."

jake inhaled sharply. he didn't expect that this day would come- that he would hear these words coming out of sunghoon's mouth.

he bit his lip as he felt the tears forming on the side of his eyes.

"i like you, jake. can i stay by your side?" sunghoon's voice sounded like a whisper.

he went closer to jake, but the guy was slowly going backward- as if trying to distance himself from him.

what?

"jake?" sunghoon looked at him, his eyes almost pleading. he felt his heart stop when jake stared back at him, his eyes full of tears.

"i'm sorry...." jake's voice was shaking. "i can't."

with that statement, sunghoon finally knew that he likes jake more than he liked sunoo.

he only uttered four words, but that was more than enough to break his heart into pieces.
