You had ONE job!

Thanks to your incredible criminal-senses (as you liked to call them ) you woke up to the sound of a door closing. And you immediately knew that it was your time to shine.

You yawned, pulling the sheets off, while you waited for your eyes to adjust the light. You were about to get up, when you noticed something on your waist, holding you slightly back. Varian's hand.

At first, you just laid there, staring at it. You even caught yourself holding your breath.

You snapped out of it. "What the actual-" You began, shoving his hand off. Then you realized how close he was to you. Like really, really close. You jumped out of the bed in one movement, waking the boy up by the sudden noise.

"Geez Varian. You need to learn how to share a bed." You snorted. "Are you ready?"

Varian nodded, still dazed. He still managed to blush harshly when he saw that he was laying in the very middle of the bed.

He got out, and the two of you began putting on your shoes. "Are you sure they're gone?" he asked, yawning.

"Yeah. I trust Jack and Willow" You stretched, gathering the rest of your stuff. And you really did. Jack and Willow were your best friends, your only friends, and you would trust them with your life. You knew that they had your back, even in situations like these.

Varian nodded. There was silence for a moment. "Did you sleep well?"

You stopped, thinking. You had actually slept very well. You hadn't woken up screaming into the night or even had nightmares. Which was a very rare experience for you.

You answered Varian by giving him a nod. Silence fell again, until you realized it would be good manners to ask him the same question. "Uhm, you too?"

"Yep," Varian spoke. His cheeks were red again. Had it even faded in the first place?

You shook your head, reminding yourself to keep it together. This was the most important part of your whole plan. You needed to find out what Argo was planning, in order to stop him. The problem was, you didn't really know what to look for.

You opened the door to the cold hallway, taking Varian with you. Both of you made sure not to make too much noise, and to look around every corner - just in case. Despise it being very early in the morning, you and Varian were both quite perky - which was only a good thing.

You ran up the stairs, looking around. You asked Varian to check each drawer and closet (the obvious places), while you, yourself checked behind paintings, under vases, and other secret hiding spots. As expected, you didn't really find anything in the hallways.

"We need to check the rooms." You stated, stopping up. "And be sure to leave everything as we find it. If there's an open door, we'll make sure to leave it open and so on. Understand?"

Varian nodded, and you went inside the first room. Varian let out a sequel when he got greeted by Argo's intimidating look, just as he opened the door. He sighed in relief when he discovered that it was just a painting. In fact, the room was filled with paintings of Argo, whose eyes seemed to follow you everywhere you walked. You both hurried to check behind each one, as you were eager to get out, and far away from Argo's sight. You closed the door sealed shut behind you.

The two of you then snuck into the next room. This one was almost empty, besides from a desk and a set of shelves with files in it. A really large set of shelves. In fact, it covered the whole back wall. You walked over to a random section, 'U' and took out a file. The front page showed a wanted-poster of some really creepy looking lady, named Ursula. There were plenty of pages pinned together behind it, filled with notes. You read some of it.

Ursula:

A villainous cecaelia sea witch. After being banished from Atlantica by her longstanding rival, Ursula vowed to exact vengeance by harnessing the power of the king's and installing herself as ruler of all the ocean.

There were plenty of notes, describing this woman's background, her strengths, and weaknesses, and on the very large page, you saw something handwritten.

Status: Dead

"This is an outline for every current wanted criminal out there," Varian realized, reading a file in his hands.

You put 'Ursula' back on the shelf, and took another one. You looked at the status.

Status: Retired

"Correction: It's information about every villain in existence," You said, a little amazed. How did Argo even gather all of this information?

Varian furrowed his brows, as he headed for section 'C'. He took out a file and stared shockingly at it. You walked over to him and looked at the file he held in his hands.

"They even have one of Cassandra." He mumbled. He didn't look at the description. Just at the picture of a woman with short, blue hair, smiling evilly. He brushed a hand softly over the paper. You furrowed your brows. She was way too old for him.

"I believe I've heard of her." You nodded. "Princess Rapunzel's best friend, right? Who betrayed her? The one who stole the moon-stone?"

"Yeah, uh... But she's good again."

You snorted. "Once a villain, always a villain. That's the rule."

Varian didn't answer. In fact, he looked quite uncomfortable. But after a while of staring at the so-called Cassandra, he seemed to realize something. He ran over to another section, checking every file nearby.

You watched him rip out a few pages when he had found the file he had been looking for. He stuffed them into his pocket, eyes flickering.

You rose your brow at his weird actions, but you didn't question it. You were pretty sure you had pushed a wrong button when you had talked about that Cassandra, and you didn't want to push it.

Not many moments after, Varian had seemed to relax a little, and was back to normal, and the two of you kept looking. Varian was the first to break the silence. "Zhan Tiri isn't here." He spoke.

You rose a brow. "What? Are you sure?"

Varian confirmed.

"That's weird." You mumbled. "She's practically one of the biggest villains in history." You looked through section 'T'. "Tromus is not here either."

"Or Sugracha the Eternal" Varian spoke. "Why are all of the demons missing?"

You bit your lip, looking around the room once again. "I don't know." You sighed. "Come on, pretty boy. I don't think there's anything in here. And we better hurry. I don't know how much time we have left."

-

You spend another 20 minutes, looking around in vain. You didn't find anything. It wasn't until Varian accidentally leaned against a full-sized statue of Argo, that a secret tunnel appeared.

Apparently there had been a hidden lever, that he had pulled by mistake. You had never been happier, to have Varian with you on this trip. You clapped him on the shoulder, before running into the tunnel.

The tunnel was dark, only lit up by a torch every 10 feet. It was also quite navy, and it smelled like fish down here.

You could see small door at the end, and you stopped up. Varian tried to open it, but it was locked.

You could see him think about what to do, but you met him halfway.

"I have a solution." You spoke, pointing your finger innocently up in the air.

Varian turned to you. "Really? Great!"

"It involves fire."

"Absolutely not!"

You threw your arms up in the air. "Why?! Its a wooden door! It would be fun and effective!"

Varian rolled his eyes, and you couldn't help but smile at the sudden role-changes. "May I remind you, that you were the one who told us to leave everything as it were? besides, we don't have the time to wait for it to burn down. I have a better idea."

You crossed your arms, challenging. "Oh yeah, Mr. Mastermind? What is it?"

Varian smiled. "I've been waiting for a chance to use my new alchemy gear for so long." He mumbled, looking for something in his back. He then fished out a little, small, dark-blue ball.

"Oh, wow. We're saved." You spoke sarcastically.

Varian rolled his eyes, walking over to the door again. He placed the tiny ball inside the lock hole. He turned around. "Can I borrow you lighter?"

You tossed it to him, and his eyes lit up. He examined the object closely.

"What is it?"

"It's just that I'm holding probably the only specimen of probably one of the greatest, yet most simple inventions ever right now, and-

"Varian."

"Sorry."

He pressed down the button, making the small flame appear. He set the ball on fire.

And click.

The door slid open.

"How the-?" You said amazed, looking at Varian's work.

He grinned. "It's because when these special kinds of chemicals interact with fire, the atoms begin to split, which causes the-"

"Okay now, spare me the details." You laughed. "But good work Varian. We make a great duo, you know."

But just as those words had left your mouth, you regretted saying them. You didn't really know why, but you just did.

You went inside the room, with a happy Varian following.

It was a small, round room, with a weird book in its middle, and weird runes on the walls. After making a personal guided tour around Argo's house, you had discovered that Argo wasn't the biggest fan of furniture, but this was still a little bit weird.

The book was literally the only thing in the room - except the small table it was placed on, and some torches.

"It's... In a different language." Varian clarified, looking at the page the book was already turned too. You looked at the pictures. One was a picture of a crown, another one was a picture of a knife with blood on, then a portray of some stones on a hill, and then one creepy-ass figure. You guessed, it either portrayed a human in a cloak, a ghost, or a demon.

"It must say something about Argo's plan." You said. "We need to write it down. We can't take the page out. We don't want Argo to suspect us more than he already does. It would be a bad thing if he becomes our enemy too soon."

Varian nodded and began writing it down.

It took a lot of time to get everything right, even the drawings, but he managed to do it. And then the two of you were hella out of there.

-

You did it. You managed to get out of Argo's house in time - and when he finally got back, you and Varian would be long gone. You had managed to get a copy of whatever he was planning to do, so you hopefully could stop him in time. Or well, technically, you didn't really know if what you had found really were his evil plans, but considering the fact that it was written in a book in a secret room, it was your best guess.

So now, you were on your way out of the villain base. You didn't need to hide from anyone, because you walked a completely different route than what Argo would do, and even if you met him, you could just say that you were on your way out. And there wouldn't be one thing he could do about it. Besides, the streets were empty, since it was so early in the morning.

Still, you and Varian got out of the base perfectly safe, without meeting anyone who suspected you for anything. You actually enjoyed the walk with your friend.

You couldn't wait to get back to Corona, and try to solve what was written on that paper with him. Then you could tell the Queen what you had found out, and you would help them save the world. Maybe you could even ask them for the specific favor you've wanted to ask them before planned, and-

Now, now (Y/n). A voice spoke inside of your head. No need to rush things.

You cleared your throat, as your stomach churned.

Varian smiled. "Are you hungry?"

You nodded. "Yeah, but it would be a bad idea to get some food right now. I want to get out of here as soon as possible."

And so you did. You went through the gates, and into the forest. But before you could go further, Varian stopped up, looking for something in his bag. You looked around the forest while waiting, because you thought you had heard something. But no one was there.

"I totally forgot, (Y/n). I actually have some chocolate somewhere. It was Mont-"

"Chocolate?" You happily exclaimed, clapping your hands. You didn't even try to hide your excitement or act tough or professional. God, it was a long time ago, you had last eaten chocolate.

Varian unpacked the box and took out two pieces of heart-formed chocolate. Varian was written on the right one with a darker shade of chocolate, and (Y/n) was written on the other. He handed you the one. You thanked him and put it into your mouth.

It tasted like heaven. It melted on your tongue, sending sparks to your brain. That was a good way of celebrating the success of today's event. You were just about to thank Varian when you heard something from the woods again.

You stopped dead in your tracks, your smile disappearing, as your suspicion got confirmed. You had caught something in the corner of your eye. No not something, someone. Someone was lurking in the bushes, behind a big tree.

"What is it, (Y/n)?" Varian asked, stopping up as well. You caught him off by throwing your knife at the tree, in one quick movement. Birds flew away, terrified, as you heard some very girly screams.

Out of the bushes came two royal guards. Pete and Stan. They looked horrified, and as they looked at your expression, they became even more so.

The whole way. The whole way, you have had the feeling of someone following you, but you had just thought that is was because you were now followed by Varian, and you were used to be on your own. That, or you had blamed some wild animals. But it had been the royal guards the whole time.

Varian seemed to be surprised as well. "Pete? Stan?"

You slowly clenched your fists, your nails cutting into your skin, as you realized what this meant. Your whole body shook. Your vision grew red.

"How many are there?" You yelled with such rage, that even Varian stepped a few steps back.

Pete and Stan gulped, clearly not being prepared for you finding out about them, as more guards came out of hiding. About ten.

Pete and Stan must have called for assistance when you and Varian had slept inside Argo's house, and they had been forced to wait out here, outside of the villain base. There was no way that twelve guards had followed you, without you noticing. You refused to believe you were that dense.

The royal guards came nearer, surrounding you and Varian. You slowly breathed out, forcing yourself to calm down.

And you slowly turned your rage into a dark chuckle. "Oh, Varian." You spoke slowly, turning to face the boy. Your hands were still clenched. "That was very, very stupid of you."

Varian blinked a few times, and you must admit that he looked like one, who was just as surprised by the fact that the guards had followed you, as you were. But he was just playing his role well.

"What? No, no, (Y/n), I swear I didn't know-"

"Cut it out!" You snapped, making the boy go completely silent. You slowly lifted three fingers, walking right in front of him. "Three terms." You said, poking his chest. His brows were furrowed in confusion, and his eyes looked hurt, but that didn't convince you. You turned around to the guards, who froze whenever you moved. "Three fucking terms!" You shouted, the anger in your voice surprising even yourself.

You had asked three simple things when you so kind-heartedly offered Corona your help. And they had agreed. They had promised, that they would follow your rules. But yet, they had broken the most important term of them all: That they wouldn't interfere on your quest. That they wouldn't mess with your work. That you wouldn't be followed outside the castle. And the breaking of that very rule had put not only you in very great danger, but also Varian. If anyone had found out that Varian was the royal engineer of Corona, and that you had led him straight into the villain-base, in order to take Argo down? You would have been taken prisoner for a lifetime.

And the fact that you had just led the royal guards straight to the secret villain base? Well, the sentence for that was death. Princess Rapunzel had just doomed you, by sending those guards after you. You couldn't explain how furious you were.

You glanced at the tree, where you dagger was. It had been a mistake to throw it there, because now you almost didn't have any weapons.

Almost.

"You had one. fucking. job." You cursed, putting your hand in your pocket. It had been a warm week. The nature was dry. It could easily catch fire.

You couldn't allow any of the guards to get away, with this information about the villain base. Despise you switching sides for a short amount of time, this was your home.

You took out your lighter, and Varian immediately figured out what you were going to do.

He took your hand in his, forcing you to look at him. "(Y/n), please don't. I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding, we- we can figure this out!"

"Get your hands off of me!" You hissed, shoving him away. But for one moment, Varian's eyes cut through to you, and your eyes began to sting. His were getting blank too. He knew what all of this meant. "I trusted you, Varian." You said, your voice cracking.

"(Y/n), I swear-"

"I let you in."

He was about to say something more, but you already cut him off, turning around again. "I WARNED YOU!" You screamed at the guards, pointing directly at Pete and Stan. "I told you not to mess with my work! You promised. The Queen promised."

You rose your hand with the lighter, showing the blue flame. "I gave you a chance. Don't come crawling back, when the world is ending. You're about to see what happens when you don't keep your promise."

Of course, you weren't going to kill them. But you were done with them. With the guards, the Queen, Varian. They could try saving the world themselves now, you didn't care. But you needed an escape. Bluffing was the best way to get that.

"Get her!" Stan screamed, and every guard ran towards you. Varian yelled for them to stop, and one moment it actually seemed to work.

The guards all stopped, looking at you.

You didn't really understand why, or what was happening until you could taste the blood.

Warm liquid ran down your chin, and onto your clothes. "What the-" You began, looking down.

And then the pain came. Your insides began to burn, your vision getting blurry.

And the world was beginning to rotate, as it clicked for you. "Varian?" You spoke, more blood coming out of your mouth. You tried to decide which Varian to look at - there were three. "W-What was in that chocolate?"

You heard his voice call your name, as his arms held you. You both fell to the ground.

The pain was now beyond anything you had ever experienced - and that said something. The bloodstream was getting faster and thicker. The liquid-filled your throat, your nose, all of your airways. You began to cough very badly, your eyes still winded in shock. You dropped the lighter, as you put both of your hands around your neck. You couldn't breathe.

You gasped for air, but you only swallowed your own blood. You were suffocating in it.

You struggled in Varian's arms the last couple of seconds before your lungs started to burn as well. They were demanding air immediately, but you couldn't give it to them.

You tried to scream but didn't know if you even made a sound. Your ears were also filled with blood. How was that even possible?

Everything started to turn black - or were you just closing your eyes? You couldn't tell.

You kept fighting the last couple of seconds. Then your body gave up, and you lost consciousness.
