38| The End

After having witnessing Akira flee the battlefield, despite her wanting to go after him, Akame put the mission first. With killing intent, she headed for Mashiro, the silver-haired woman whipping out her revolver once more to retaliate. The woman fired two quick shots, but she was shocked by Akira's reaction time, the red-eyed girl able to dodge it with ease.

Unsheathing her Shingu, Akame slices forward, cutting Mashiro's arm, the woman grunting. As she prepared to strike again, Green alerted her.

Green: "Akame, there's another enemy coming your way!"

Thanks to being warned, Akame turned her head around slightly. Heading towards her with malicious and killing intent is Lorris, the girl having a glare full of bloodlust as she went for Akame.

Lorris: "What are you doing to Mera-sama!?"

Akame: (confused) "Mera!?"

Unable to focus on Mashiro and had to focus on the person attacking her, Akame turns around and blocks the two thrusts from Lorris, the young girl trying to use her dual knives. Now that she was distracted, Mashiro aimed her revolver at Akame once more, knowing she had to help Lorris. Before she could pull the trigger, her gun was knocked out of her hands, turning her head behind her, seeing Green with his whip.

Green: "I won't let you shoot Akame!"

Mashiro: "Kuh...!"

Green: (thoughts) 'If I can calmy take her out from this distance, I can win. And then we'll all make it home alive! I swear it!'

With Akame and Lorris, the young girl was done taunting her enemy. Lorris was completely blinded by her vengeance, her supposedly going all out. She tries to outmatch Akame with her speed, but Akame's defense was too much. With a small window of opening, Akame dashed forward, cutting Lorris on her chest, making her pause in shock.

Akame could tell that Lorris had gotten stronger after fighting many strong opponents in a row. With her rage fueled even more, Lorris turned around and glared at the ravenette, dashing forward without much of a clear plan. This was all working in Akame's favor. With Green and Mashiro, the spectacled teen wrapped his whip around Mashiro's neck, the silver-haired woman trying to wriggle it off.

Green: (thoughts) 'Now to break her neck!'

As Mashiro tried to get Green's whip off her neck, she looked to Lorris. She sees the young girl's face, pain evident all over it as Akame had slashed her chest once more.

Mashiro: (thoughts) 'First, they killed my beloved Kouga...and now, they're going to wipe out the rest of us...is there nothing I can do!?' "Over my dead body!"

After shouting to the top of her lungs, a surge of strength, Mashiro grabbed Green's whip and yanked it towards her, Green shocked by her sudden strength as he was pulled forward. Putting his feet on the ground, he tries to stop himself, but Mashiro had run towards him, anger evident on her face. Determined to survive this encounter, Green took out his knife that was on his belt behind him.

Mashiro: "I'll never forgive you!"

With the whip no longer around her neck, Mashiro's movements no longer restricted, she knocks the knife out of Green's hands, the knife clattering onto the ground. She then got behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck, tightly.

Green: (thoughts) 'This woman...is stronger in close-range combat...'

Mashiro: "I'll kill as many as you as I can!"

And in one fell swoop, one swift motion, Mashiro tosses Green over her, twisting his head as she does so. Green coughs up blood, his breath losing him, his conscious leaving his body.

Green: 'No...way...I have to get back alive...to protect Akame...to make Akame smile...Akame...'

Green's body then went limp, his body lying on the ground. In his final thoughts, Akame was on his mind, as well as the cherished memories he spent in the Elite Seven. He may have never got to know his real family, but there was one thing he did acknowledge as did the rest of them.

The Elite Seven was their family.

With her final slash, Akame cut off Lorris's head, the red-eyed girl turning her head towards Green's situation. Her eyes widened as she sees Green's body lying on the ground, making no movements whatsoever. Mashiro stood over his body, panting heavily as she eyes Akame with a glare.

Akame: "Green!"

Mashiro: "You're next...!"

The two run at each other as fast as they could, Akame being the quicker one of the two. She drew her katana and slashed at Mashiro's abdomen, causing her to fall, tumbling onto the ground. Worriedly, Akame ran towards Green's body. She didn't want to accept it either, her in a state of denial.

Once arriving at his body, she found the blood dripping down his mouth, his lifeless eyes. Akame hugs the dead boy's head closer to hers, crying her eyes out. This brought back many memories. Many painful memories. First of Cornelia, when she found Akira cradling her body in his arms, her head put against his chest as the icy blue-eyed teen cried over her that day. Then after the Gravekeeper raid when Guy was reported dead by Kurome, Gin, and Natala. Najasho's supposed "death."

Hearing Gin's death from Gozuki and the others. When Akira had kissed her the first time and pushed her away to save her, causing him to supposedly "die" as well, only for him and Najasho to come back as enemies. And now, Green left her. The Retribution Group wanted the Elite Seven to know the pain of losing their comrades, but they already knew what that was like.

Turning her head towards Mashiro with an angered look, the silver-haired woman got up, clutching her bleeding abdomen, the two glared at each other.

Mashiro: "I'll kill as many of you...as I can. I will avenge...Kouga!!"

Akame's eyes temporarily widened, causing her to falter a little bit. She hadn't heard that name in a long time. It was the Sabitini Group, the circus group disguised as a Revolutionary Army unit that she and Akira spent with for a month. The regret began to come back to her. Mashiro had a personal bone to pick with Akame. After all, the ravenette was the one who ended Kouga's life.

Before Mashiro had time to charge at her, Akame had run forward, wanting to end Mashiro's life and pain. Driving her Shingu through her, piercing her heart, Mashiro's eyes widened and became lifeless. Akame remembered Kouga's last words when she killed him.

Kouga: "I...I...I promised...to change the country..."

Taking her sword out of Mashiro's body, Akame glanced to further up the mountain. There was a city she and her squad was deployed to was on fire.

Akame: "Why's the city...on fire?"

???: "That was the point of our operation, Akame."

Akame turned her head around, the ravenette looking to see Kairi walking up to her. A cold and indifferent face was on his.

Kairi: "Our mission was to execute all those affiliated with the Rebel Army. That village was supporting Mount Hakuba. You helped us get rid of all those annoying government officials and greedy merchants."

Akame: (disbelief) "What...?"

Kairi: "We executed them. The enemy knew the city would burn...so they came down the mountain to help."

Akame: "So you burned the city? What about the civilians?"

Kairi: "Looks like the Incineration Squad went a little overboard. They massacred everyone to make an example of them."

Heading back to their hideout, Akame would later head back to the city after the fire had burned down. She walked in horror, wide-eyed as she traversed the area. Burned bodies lied dead all over the place, some of them were in positions of them trying to escape. However, her eyes widened in horror even more when she came across a house burned to ash.

Laying among the ash were two children. Akame knew these two as she would train them in her spare time when she spent time in the village. She screamed in sadness, now knowing everything about their corrupt Empire.

Her suspicious were right. Akira was right. They weren't making the people happy. They were just doing the Empire's dirty work, killing the Rebel's that opposed the corrupt government. But not only that. They were also killing innocents. Innocents that had nothing to do with this. Innocents that were simply trying to get by. Akame continued to scream in sadness even more, weeping tears for the fallen.

Now, they were riding back to the Capital, the ride being silent. Their current mission was to go on any mission they were assigned, but to also look for Akira and Najasho, who fled the battlefield. And sooner or later, while Poney was recovering, Akame and Kurome were assigned missions.

Kurome's was fairly simple. Subjugate barbarian spies that posed a threat to the Empire. Due to being brainwashed and her immense loyalty to the Empire, Kurome agreed and was eager to take them down. Akame got a mission that was similar to the last one. Assassinate the former general of the Empire, Najenda. And so Akame traveled far once more, Najenda's last known location being deep in the mountains. She encountered the former general there with her bodyguard, Bulat.

However, Najenda and Bulat began to talk to her about the Empire and their dissatisfaction with it. This didn't sway her, but Akame still kept her doubts, remembering what Akira noted in his journal. But swayed Akame the most was the Revolutionary Army's plan once the Empire fell, to create a harmonious world where everyone could live happy and in peace. That was the world Akame desired. And for the whole day and night, the three of them talked, talking about the Rebel Army's policies and countermeasures and how they had the people's interests in mind. Bulat and Najenda were formerly associated with the Empire, so they understood what Akame felt.

Knowing her decision, Akame left, or rather, Najenda allowed her to leave. Akame clutched the necklace Akira had gave her before he disappeared. She did remember one thing in his journal that made her smile, one at the very bottom.

Akira: "Akame, if you read the past entries, then you know what's going on. I know you wouldn't want to abandon everyone, so just follow this..."

Follow your heart.

Elsewhere, three people could be spotted. It was a dark-haired girl with a bow strapped to her back, along with a quiver of arrows. One of the two boys had a martial arts headband with dark brown hair and brown eyes. The last boy had brown hair and green eyes, a sword on his back.

The three of them seemed to talking, the brown-haired boy bumping into a cloaked person.

???: "The hell was that for!?"

As the brown-haired boy tried to put his hand on the cloaked person's shoulder, the cloaked person lunged his hand and grabbed the boy's wrist. The boy grunted in pain and met the person's eyes, meeting an icy, cold glare.

Cloaked Person: "Touch me, and I'll kill you."

The three shuddered under his glare, the three nodding in response. The cloaked person let go of the person's wrist and continued on his way. Once he got far enough, he stood atop a hill and looked into the distance. The wind grew stronger, hood of his cloak blowing off his head, revealing his black hair.

Markings were on the left side of his face, under his eye, the white area having returned to it's normal color. His icy blue eyes were cast onto the rising orange horizon. The person was Akira, his hair flowing with the wind.

He then clutches his head in pain as he began to remember things. Many people were calling his name, smiling on him. But none gave him greater happiness than a certain ravenette with red-eyes. The pain soon stopped as sweat pooled down his head.

Akira: (thoughts) '...Who were they...who am I?'

Shaking his head, he began to move once more to who knows where. All he knew was something that was repeated in his mind. Those memories and something else.

"Kill. Kill all those that have ruined you. Kill all those who have taken your loved ones. Kill them all."
