LETTING OUT A yawn, Roland placed his hands on his hips as he leaned against the tree with a few of the group around the truck. "Why are you so tired?" Andrea questioned and Roland sighed. "Glenn, man. I'm considering just asking Hershel if I can sleep in the house or switch tents. He's acted like a 13-year-old girl all night." He complained in annoyance as his dad came over.
For most of last night, Roland had been the unfortunate victim of Glenn's gossiping about how he secured his first time with Maggie. Now, if the world hadn't gone to shit, Roland would've congratulated him, but sleep was something everyone needed in times like these. So, once again, Roland didn't get that much sleep like the past few nights. Taking a guess, he was running off around 4 hours and he definitely needed more.
"Morning, guys." Rick greeted. "Let's get going. We've got a lot of ground to cover." He told them and T-Dog, Andrea, and Roland followed him and Shane to the truck where he laid out the map on the hood.
"All right, everyone's getting new search grids today. If she made it as far as the farmhouse Daryl found, she might have gone further east than we have." Rick explained to the group. "I'd like to help." Jimmy appeared and Roland glanced at him. "I know the area pretty well and stuff." He told them and Roland chuckled. "Did Hershel give you the okay?" Jimmy glared at Roland, a frown etching onto Roland's face at the boy's attitude. "Yeah. He said I should ask you." Jimmy replied, speaking directly to Rick.
After Rick thanked him, Shane spoke. "About what Daryl found screams Sophia to me. Anyone could have been holed up in that farmhouse." Shane suggested. "Anybody includes her, right?" Andrea fired back and Shane didn't respond. "Whoever slept in that cupboard was no bigger then yay-high," Daryl told them, motioning with his hand with the approximate height. "Good stuff." Roland complimented. "Maybe we'll pick up her trail again." Rick hoped as Dale came over with the bag full of guns. "No maybe about it. I'm gonna borrow a horse, head up to this ridge right here, take a bird's-eye view of the whole grid. If she's up there, I'll spot her." Daryl assured the group. "Good idea," T-Dog said.
"Maybe you'll see your chupacabra up there too." He teased and Roland smiled instantly at the old memory. "Chupacabra?" Rick repeated in confusion. "You never heard this?" Dale asked from beside Roland. "Our first night at in camp, Daryl tells us that the whole thing reminds him of a time when he went squirrel hunting and he saw a chupacabra." Dale handed Rick a shotgun as Jimmy laughed. "What are you braying at, jackass?" Daryl hissed at the boy.
"So, you believe in a blood-sucking dog?" Rick asked. "Do you believe dead people walking around?" Daryl defended and Roland laughed.
When Jimmy reached for the shotgun on the hood of the truck, Roland was quick to grab it and hold it there. "You know how to use one, cowboy?" Roland didn't like Jimmy. Not because the boy was dating Beth, but the looks he had gotten all yesterday and was already getting glares this early in the morning. It was pissing him off big time and that was not something Jimmy wanted to mix with since Roland barely got any sleep as of last night. "Well, if I'm going out, I want one." Jimmy fired back and Roland pulled the gun from his grip and held it. "Yeah, and people in hell want Slurpees." Daryl quipped, tapping Roland's shoulder before walking off.
"Why don't you come train tomorrow?" Shane asked Jimmy who turned to him. "If you're serious, I'm a certified instructor," Shane told him as Andrea pipped in. "For now he can come with us." She told him. "He's yours to babysit then." He fired back before motioning Jimmy to the truck.
For the next couple of hours, Roland wandered around the woods with T-Dog, Andrea, and Jimmy. Still getting those stank eyes from Jimmy every time he spoke. And Roland was at his witts end and not in the mood to continue dealing with it. He didn't care if Jimmy was jealous or protective of Beth. There was nothing going to stop Roland from talking to the girl and Jimmy could eat cow shit if he thought so.
So, when they wandered back to the farm, Roland and Jimmy peeled off from T-Dog and Andrea to put their weapons back. While placing his gun in the bag, Roland chuckled. Feeling the glare on the back of his head from Jimmy.
Turning to the boy, Roland clenched his fist, but held that smile. "You got somethin' you want to get off your chest or are you going to continue staring at me like some lost pup?" He hissed and Jimmy glanced around before taking a step towards Roland. "I want you to stay away from, Beth. You're NOT stealin' my girl out from under me."
Roland laughed. "So that's what she is? Somethin' to be below you instead of above you?" Roland had a way of fucking with people and twisting their words. It was something he was good at and mental warfare was his specialty. "That's not what I-" Jimmy tried to defend himself, but Roland took a step forward. "You want to know what I think, Jimmy?" He asked. "I think you're a sad boy who has never gotten a girl in his life. Scared that the one time a boy who is bigger, handsome, and just prepared for this entire world, could steal Beth from you." Roland guessed with a shrug.
The glare contest between the two boys was rather intense to anyone who saw it. Roland wasn't sure about Jimmy, but he was ready to give this boy a world of hurt. If he could kill someone, he could beat the shit out of someone.
And that's precisely what happened, Roland was punched in the face by Jimmy. Stumbling back into the park bench holding the guns. Roland kicked Jimmy in the stomach before punching him. Roland grabbed Jimmy by the collar of his shirt and punched him twice in the nose. Placing his foot behind Jimmy's ankle and tripping him before wrestling on the ground. Roland had maneuvered himself below Jimmy, getting him into a headlock and squeezing as tight as possible. Not able to put up much of a fight since he'd never dealt with something like Roland's fighting style. Which was 5 years of MMA training.
Sweat dripped down his temples as he squeezed tighter around Jimmy's neck. Hearing the gasp from the boy grasping onto what little air was given to him. Roland could feel his hearing disappearing slowly. Only hearing his breathing echoing in his ears, the same as his heart that thumped in his chest erratically. Controlling his breathing, Roland could feel his heart calm. Soon coming to a steady beat as he was ready to snap Jimmy's neck.
Only when Shane pried his arms out from around Jimmy's neck was when his hearing came back. Being lifted to his feet and pulled back from Shane while Jimmy was pulled back from T-Dog. "Breath, man. Just breathe." Shane controlled Roland as the boy had a deadly look in his eyes directed towards Jimmy who sat kneeled on the ground gasping for air.
There was no sense of remorse for Jimmy. He'd thrown the first punch and let Roland get in his head. He should've thought before he acted so irrationally. Shane stood in front of Roland, cutting his eyesight from Jimmy off. "You with me, man?" Shane asked, moving his head to stay in Roland's eyesight. Roland gave a nod before rubbing his nose and spitting on the ground. "Yeah, I'm with you."
Jimmy was taken away, not needing another incident to occur within the farm's people and Roland. With each second here, Roland was losing his nice guy composure quickly. He didn't exactly know how long he could continue acting like everything was okay before he wouldn't hold back anymore. Jimmy was just the first to see, if Roland was provoked again everyone would see it.
"What happened?" Shane questioned as he glanced at Rick across the property talking to Hershel. "Just a bit of roughhousing. Nothing more." Roland lied, sniffling more spitting to the ground again. "You think I'd believe that?" Shane chuckled with a smirk. "I hoped so." Roland quipped, a smirk of his own.
After the whole conversation with Shane, it didn't surprise Roland that Maggie came over questioning him. And as honest as he was, Roland gave her the answer she wasn't expecting and surprisingly, she wasn't mad. The thought of punching Jimmy was on her mind as well since it'd been tough keeping Beth and Jimmy aware of how the world was and not like it used to be. Running around and acting like high school sweethearts when that didn't matter anymore. It was survive or die.
So, with not being in shit by Hershel or Maggie, Roland sat by the R.V. cleaning his pistol. Shane taught him at their old camp since it was something that needed to be taught for the eldest Grimes boy. Even if Lori didn't like the idea of her son carrying, it didn't matter in the time they lived in now.
Andrea's yell knocked him out of his thoughts when he heard the one word be repeated by the blonde. "Walker. Walker!" She yelled getting Roland to his feet to try and spot it. Spotting the figure walking from the treeline in the distance. Frowning slightly, feeling his stomach twist. "Just the one?" Rick came over and Andrea didn't respond as she grabbed her binoculars and looked out to where the walker was. Nodding as she removed the item from her eyes. "I bet I can nail it from here." She suggested. "Woah, Andrea. Put the gun down. We're not going off a bet. Especially you." Roland ordered and she removed the scope from her eye and glared at the boy.
To be honest, Roland never liked Andrea in the first place. She had become erratic after her sister died, Amy, and for good reason. Roland didn't blame her for acting such a way, at first. But as soon as she started acting out with no explanation for it, he'd lost his trust and respect in her.
"You'd best let us handle this," Shane announced, coming out of his tent with his shirt not even buttoned up. A pickaxe in his hand and T-Dog with a metal baseball bat. "Shane, hold up. Hershel wants to deal with the walkers." Rick explained as the pair marched past him. "What for, man? We got it covered." Shane assured him as he continued walking.
Rick cursed under his breath before running into the R.V and grabbing his revolver. Making sure to back peddle and point at Roland. "Stay here." He ordered before sprinting after the two men.
Roland waited patiently before a couple of moments later he heard the sound of a rifle clicking. Looking up to find Andrea looking through the scope. "Andrea, lower the gun." He ordered and the woman didn't listen. Glancing out into the field, he could see his dad and the other running towards the walker and getting close. He looked back up at Andrea to see she hadn't listened. "Andrea, don't," Dale told her. "Back off, Dale." She fired back.
"Andrea, if you don't lower that gun-" When he was about to finish, a gunshot rang out and Roland froze. Looking out into the field to hear his father yell, "No!"
Moving Dale, Roland climbed up the ladder of the R.V. and saw Andrea with a satisfied smile. Washing away when Rick's yells could be heard in the distance. She wasn't able to get a word out before Roland grabbed her arm and lifted her to her feet. Ripping the gun from her hands. "That's it. You're done." He snapped, handing the gun down to Dale.
"What on earth's going on out here?" Hershel yelled and Roland looked back at him. Shoving Andrea into view and that was all Hershel needed to know.
