The sun had risen, everyone was in their own separate corners.

After everything last night, everyone was in shock, there were dead bodies on the ground and the fire had finally burnt out.

Andrea was holding Amy's limp hand, everyone lost someone the night before.

Maia sat on a log with Luna, Anthony, Izraella, Giselle and Rosalyn. Maia had her bags to the side of her, she held Luna's hand to reassure the girl.

Maia leaned her chin on her palm and trying to register what happened the night before, Maia stared off into space and Anthony leaned his head on his sister's shoulder.

The atmosphere was quiet, everyone was quiet.

Off in one corner Glenn sat with Lara trying to calm her down, she was breathing heavily, Maia heard slight cries erupting from Lara.

Maia looked up and saw Glenn holding Lara's shoulder.

"Hey, hey, it's okay..." Glenn spoke in a soft tone trying to calm his sister down, he felt Maia's gaze on his face and he glanced at Maia before back at Lara.

"I'll...I'll be back." Maia slowly stood up and Anthony lifted his head off of her shoulder and watched her every move.

Maia slowly let go of Luna's hand.

"Wait, where are you going?" Luna asked with a slight sniffle. "Just going to check on Lara, okay?" Maia spoke in a soft whisper and Luna nodded and wiped her nose on her sleeve.

Maia wiped her palms on her pants and walked forward, she could tell Glenn was struggling to get Lara calm.

She walked slowly to not alarm the pair of siblings and she stopped in front of Glenn who held his sister in his arms.

"Is everything okay?" Maia asked with a small hint of concern, Glenn looking up at Maia, having a hint of confusion however he nodded slightly and Maia kneeled down next to Lara.

She could see Lara trembling, she didn't blame her. Luna was also scared of what she saw, every kid reacted differently but Lara seemed to be affected in a different way, almost as if she was seeing a memory.

"Lara?" Maia put a hand on Lara's shoulder softly, Lara turned and looked at Maia with her tear stained cheeks and her breath trembled.

"Hey it's okay, just focus on me okay? nothing else." Maia spoke in a calming tone, her hand resting on Lara's shoulder and Lara looked over to Amy's limp body, her breath starting to heave more.

"Hey, look at me." Maia spoke in a whisper, moving Lara's chin so she could look at Maia. "Deep breath." Maia takes a deep breath and Lara nods taking one after her.

Glenn sits there in shock however still puts a reassuring hand on his sister's shoulder.

"There you go." Maia whispers and takes another deep breath and Lara follows along, still trying to calm herself down.

"Again." Maia instructs and Lara nods and she starts calming down. "It's okay." Maia says in a comforting yet soft tone.

Anthony's eyebrows furrowed as he saw Maia kneeled in front of Lara and trying to calm her down. Izraella thought this was odd behaviour for Maia, especially when it came to someone she barely knew.

Glenn sat behind Lara, rubbing her arm comfortingly. He stared at Maia admiringly, he never thought Maia would ever do something like this.

She never showed much compassion towards others that weren't her family. Seeing her help Lara calm down was something that was different.

A certain display of admiration filled Glenn's gaze as Lara calmed down. A strand of hair falls in front of her eye and Maia tucks it behind her ear.

"You're okay, don't worry. You have Glenn." Maia had her hand on Lara's cheek and wiped the girl's tears, as she whispered reassuringly and Lara leaned into Maia's touch.

Maia sighed and removed her hand from Lara's face.

"Do you feel better?" Maia asked Lara quietly, glancing at Glenn from time to time.

Lara nodded and took a deep breath in.

"Thank...Thank you." She uttered below a whisper and Maia nodded in return before standing up and dusted off her pants.

Glenn watched Maia walk away from the two siblings without another word before he called out for Maia.

"Uh, Hey, Maia?" Glenn called for her, still having a hand on his sister's shoulder. Maia turned around with a curious look, wondering why he called her.

"Can you help us with the bodies? Also can you get Iz and Anthony?" Glenn asked politely and Maia nodded at the request.

"Uh, sure." Maia nodded at Glenn before walking towards Anthony and Izraella.

"Guys, can you come and help with the bodies?" Maia asked the two and they nodded and stood up.

"Wait, where are you guys going?" Rosalyn piped up, her eyes filled with worry and Giselle had her arm wrapped around Rosalyn.

"We're just gonna go help the others with the bodies alright?" Maia spoke softly and Luna looked really upset.

She looked over to her younger sister and tilted her head with a sympathetic gaze.

She bent down to Luna's height and looked at Luna.

"Hey, you don't need to worry, we're okay, Anthony and I are just gonna go and help okay? You can sit here with Lara and Rose and play some games, Giselle will make sure you're okay." Maia had her hands on Luna's shoulders to reassure her and Giselle gave Maia a nod.

Maia and Izraella worked together to round up a few bodies, both women full of dirt and sweat.

"Holy shit." Maia coughs as she and Izraella throw a dead walker's body into a fire, causing both of them to cough.

"That's disgusting." Izraella wiped her forearm on her forehead, wiping sweat that dripped from her forehead.

The two women wore tank tops and a pair of jeans, both breathing heavily.

"We got one more." Izraella pointed to a body on the left of Maia who huffed in return before taking her knife out and stabbing the walker in the head for safety precautions.

She grunted silently before taking the walker by the shoulders.

"Alright." Izraella took the walker by the feet and they started walking towards the fire where Glenn, Anthony and T-Dog were building the fire.

The two women dragged the walker towards the fire and they heard Glenn and Daryl arguing.

"Our people go in that row over there." Glenn says softly and doesn't pay attention to the women who drag a walker to the fire pit.

"We don't burn them!" He yells at Daryl and Maia flinches slightly before looking at Glenn confused, and glancing at Izraella who had her eyebrows raised.

"We bury them. Understand?" He says softly now and Maia looks confused yet she drops the body and wipes sweat off her forehead using her forearm.

Both women wore black gloves on their hands for caution.

Anthony pants heavily and leans on the shovel giving Maia a look.

The trio, Anthony, Izraella and Maia all glanced at each other as Glenn got so defensive. It was definitely something different.

"You reap what you sow!" Daryl dragged the body to the other side with Morales. "You know what? Shut up man." Morales dropped the body on the pile.

Maia panted along with Izraella, a piece of hair fell out of Maia's ponytail and in front of her eye.

"You all left my brother for dead!" Daryl yelled and the trio then turned to Daryl who was walking away. "You had this coming!" He yelled referring to the attack the night before.

"Your brother should've seen it coming." Maia muttered under her breath before blowing the piece of hair out of her face however it landed back in front of her eye.

She blew again and Glenn caught her doing so and it landed in the same place before she huffed in an impatient manner and tucked the piece of hair behind her ear.

Commotion coming from Jacqui caught everyone's attention.

"A walker got him. A walker but Jim!" Jacqui tried moving past Jim and Izraella's eyes widened and Anthony's jaw dropped.

"I'm okay." Jim's voice was wobbly and everyone spread out.

"Show it to us." Daryl pointed to Jim, an axe in his hands.

"Easy, Jim." Shane spoke as Jim picked up a shovel, looking around frantically. Izraella, Maia and Anthony all ran forward, a good enough distance away from Jim.

"Grab him." Daryl ordered and T-Dog came up behind Jim holding him before Anthony ran forward and lifted Jim's shirt, revealing a bite on my ribs.

"I'm okay, I'm okay." Jim spoke in a whisper, he almost sounded woozy. Anthony and T-Dog both got away as soon as they could.

"If that's what we call "okay" then I do not know anymore." Maia sighed and breathed heavily.

Jim kept repeating "I'm okay.", over and over again. Everyone stared at him.

The group was huddled up and in a circle discussing what to do with Jim.

"I heard the CDC is working on a cure." Rick put his hands on his hips and Maia rolled her eyes.

"I heard that, too. Heard a lot of things before the world went to hell." Shane replied flatly.

"What if the CDC is still up and running?" Rick asked.

"Everyone's heard that, I highly doubt there's anything left of that place, let alone people working on a so-called cure." Anthony piped up with his arm leaning on Maia's shoulder.

"Man, that is a stretch right there." Shane shook his head.

"Why."

"It's only a "what if", it isn't something definite, there's no point in going out and getting ourselves killed just because we want to save someone. The CDC could've saved a lot of someone's but they didn't, the world is still to shit." Maia added with her hands on her hips and blew a piece of hair out of her face again.

"If there's any government left, any...Any structure at all, they'd protect the CDC at all costs, wouldn't they?" Rick asked again and this caused both Maia and Anthony to sigh.

"I think it's our best shot. Shelter, protection-." Rick was cut off by Shane. "Okay, Rick, you those things, all right? I do too, okay."

"Now if they exist, they're at the army base. Fort Benning." Shane explained and Maia agreed.

"That's 100 miles in the opposite direction." Lori spoke unsure, trying to register the idea.

"That is right." Shane nodded.

"It's away from the hot zone. Now listen to me. If that place is operational, it'll be heavily armed. We'd be safe there." Shane explained to Rick.

"The military were on the front line of this thing. They got overrun, we've all seen that. The CDC is our best choice and Jim's only chance." Rick explained.

"You go looking for aspirin, do what you need to do. Someone needs to have some balls to take care of this damn problem!" Daryl takes his picaxe and gets ready to swing it at Jim's head.

"Hey, Hey, Hey. We don't kill the living." Rick held a gun to the back of Daryl's head.

"That's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my head." Daryl spoke softly and Maia huffed and sat on her knees blocking out the conversation.

She wiped her forehead, using her forearm.

Standing opposite Maia was Glenn who stared at Maia, Anthony stood next to her looking at what she was doing.

"If this infection won't kill me then the sun will." Maia panted and Anthony chuckled slightly before putting out his hand to help her up.

"Give me a sec." Maia replied. "Go check on Lu, see if she's okay." Maia looked at Anthony who nodded.

"You snooze, you lose." Anthony retracted his hand and Maia waved him off. "This isn't fifth grade, shut up." Maia replied and wiped sweat off her forehead again.

Anthony rolled his eyes in return and walked off to Giselle and Izraella who were with the kids now.

Maia took a minute and sat on the ground with her knees up, Glenn still stood opposite her and she noticed him staring.

She couldn't help but feel awkward, his silence was awkward and Maia didn't know how to start up small talk for the life of her.

She cleared her throat to notify him that she caught him.

"Uh, can you um, help me up, please?" She asked awkwardly and mentally face palmed at her awkwardness.

Glenn's eyes widened slightly and nodded, walking forward and putting his hand out to help her up.

She hesitantly took it and stood up.

Her hand was placed in his and he stared down at their hands before she took hers away and licking her lips that felt dry.

A gunshot echoed through the area and that caused Glenn and Maia to rip their attention away from each other and towards the source of the gunshot.

Andrea held her sister's face in her hands, Amy turned and Andrea shot her temple.

Maia sighed at the sight before turning to Glenn and walking past him with a nod. He watched her walk away before following right behind her.

The group all made their way up to the hill where they dug holes for those who died, so that they could bury them.

Luna onto Maia and Anthony's hand, both siblings on either side of her.

"The Chinaman gets all emotional, says it's not the thing to do, we just follow him along?" Daryl asked Rick as everyone walked up the hill past the truck filled with dead bodies.

"These people need to know who the hells in charge here, what the rules are." Daryl raised his voice at Rick.

"There are no rules." Rick replied.

"That's the problem. We haven't had one minute to hold onto anything of our old selves. We need time to mourn and we need to bury our dead." Lori explained, everyone else listened intently.

"It's what people do." Lori finishes.

By the time all the holes were dug completely they started burying the bodies.

The kids all held back tears and the adults watched with sombre expressions.

Dale was helping lift Amy's body into one of the holes with Andrea. However she kept denying she needed help.

Glenn held Lara's hand to reassure her that she was going to be fine.

Luna had her head buried into Maia's torso and Anthony had a hand on Luna's shoulder.

The Ramirez family all stood next to each other, holding each other's hands in comfort.

Andrea was struggling to get her sister's body into the hole, however she refused to let anyone help her, everyone just watched her lay the girl's body into the hole.

Luna let out a soft sob and Lori started crying.

Maia sighed softly and stroked Luna's hair as she cried.

Lara started crying as well and Glenn quickly took his sister into a comforting embrace, Maia glanced at them through the corner of her eye.

They had finished burying all the bodies they needed to and mourned the loss and started walking back down the hill.

Maia got to the bottom of the hill first with Luna and Anthony. Luna cried into Maia's arms and Anthony joined the hug.

"Please don't leave me." Luna cried into Maia's shoulder. "We'll never leave you, I won't leave you okay? We're safe, we're together again." Maia whispered and Anthony put a hand on the back of her hair as he embraced his sisters.

The others all walked past the hugging siblings with sombre looks at the sight of the eight year old girl crying.

Maia held her two siblings.

"I love you both, I promise." Maia whispered to both of her siblings.

"Come on, it's okay." Maia pulled away from the hug and wiped Luna's tears. "You're okay." She whispered to her sister and looked at Anthony.

"And you're okay too." She gave him a sly smile and he chuckled causing Luna to chuckle with a cute smile. "See there's that smile, that adorable smile." Maia wiped Luna's tears and stood up.

"Come on, I don't plan on staying here long." Maia took Luna's hand and Anthony came up next to her. "I see you already packed our shit." Anthony spoke quietly whilst they started walking, Luna holding Maia's hand.

"Well, I thought we were done for so I did what I should've done a while ago. We shouldn't have stayed here after the walker in the woods, that was a red flag right then and there." Maia explained to Anthony who bit the inside of his cheek.

"That shits dangerous, last night was a sign, Ant. I would've left with Luna and went looking for you just so I knew you were okay. I was fucking anxious out of my mind. I punched a dude that's now dead and I...I don't know, I don't need either of you in danger." Maia explained and Luna looked up at Maia with a saddened look as she explained her softly.

"Mai...Come on, you don't need to worry-." Anthony started before he was cut off by Maia. "Of course I need to fucking worry, you're my brother and I don't need you dying on me or Luna, so don't give me that bullshit." Maia deadpanned and stopped walking.

They stood close to where the others sat around by the tents.

"Hey, guys." Izraella called for the twins and their little sister who stood there holding Maia's hand.

Izraella nodded towards the others who were gathered around in a circle, before Shane started talking.

The three came out and stood by Izraella, Rosalyn and Giselle.

"I've...I've been thinking about Rick's plan. Now look, there are no...There are no guarantees either way, I'll be the first one to admit that." Shane explained and glanced around the circle.

"I've known this man a long time. I trust his instincts. I say the most important thing is we need to stay together." He continued and others lowered their heads in thought.

"So those of you that agree, we leave first thing in the morning. Okay?" He nods at everyone else and then glances at Rick.

The next morning everyone was packed and ready to move, they all huddled up in a circle surrounding the cars.

Every family was in their own corner.

"Everybody listen up." Shane started.

Maia yawned and looked up at Shane.

"Those of you with CBs, we're gonna be on channel 40. Let's keep the chatter down, okay? Now you got a problem, don't have a CB, can't get a signal or anything at all you're gonna hit your horn one time." He explains.

Maia leaned her head on Izraella's shoulder as she was the closest to her. She didn't get much sleep the night before, she kept checking if they had everything packed and ready to go.

"Any questions?" Shane asked.

"We're, uh...We're not going." Morales piped up.

Everybody stared at him.

"We have family in Birmingham. We want to be with our people." Morales' wife explained.

"You go on your own, you won't have anyone to watch your back." Shane stated flatly, a hint of concern on his face.

After Morales convinced the others that they would split up they all started bidding goodbye.

Luna ran to her friends and the kids all huddled in a group hug. It was so sweet, Lara, Rosalyn and Carl joined in too as well as Sophia.

Izraella gave Maia a look and sighed.

"Did you get any sleep at all?" Izraella asked Maia in a whisper as Anthony shook Morales' hand.

"Fuck all." Maia whispered back and gave Izraella a side hug.

Izraella let go of Maia and went to bid her goodbyes to the family.

Maia but the inside of her cheek as she watched everyone else say goodbye, she didn't have any social attachment to the family, nor did she even interact with Morales' family.

She felt awkward, she couldn't help it.

Glenn finished bidding his goodbyes and saw Maia just standing there awkwardly. He walked up to her hesitantly.

"Hey, uh, you gonna say goodbye?" Glenn asked Maia hesitantly and she caught his gaze.

"Uh, yeah." She spoke softly and nodded at Glenn before stepping forward hesitantly and then walking towards the family.

She started with Morales.

"Hey." She spoke quietly. "Look, we started off on the wrong foot and I wish you the best, good luck out there and keep your family safe." Maia gave them all a tight-lipped smile.

Morales smiled at Maia's attempt to wish them good luck.

"Thanks, I appreciate it, sleepy." Morales gave Maia the nickname and she rolled her eyes.

"You're welcome." She nodded and chuckled slightly before stepping backwards and walking towards Luna who was crying again, hugging Anthony.

She couldn't help but feel at unease after awkward interactions, it was something she hated. The feeling of awkwardness just eating inside you however you couldn't control it.

Then they were off.

Everyone had bid goodbyes and chose to go in their separate cars.

Maia, Anthony and Luna went in the RV with Dale, Lara and Glenn as well as Jim who sat in the back.

Rosalyn, Giselle and Izraella went with Sophia, Carol, Lori, Carl and Rick, it was a tight squeeze but they all fit in the end.

Jacqui was in the back of the RV helping Jim in the back.

However it clearly wasn't their decision if it went smoothly.
