- B I G  D E A L -

The next morning rolled around.

Maia laid on a small makeshift mattress in the corner of the tent, it wasn't that big but big enough to fit three people.

It was completely light out and she could hear light chatter from outside.

She automatically assumed Anthony and Luna were already outside and gone to do their own thing and left her to sleep, she didn't feel anyone next to her.

Maia slowly opened her eyes as she laid on her back putting her hand over her eyes to adjust to the bright light.

She wore her sweater she fell asleep in last night and saw on a small makeshift table, a shirt and leggings laid out.

Maia sat up slowly before yawning softly and scooting forward toward the clothes.

She changed her clothes before searching the two bags in the corner of the tent where she found a hairbrush for her slightly greasy hair and brushed it through.

She sighed heavily before gathering the courage she didn't feel she needed, to get up and go outside.

She slipped on a pair of scuffed up sneakers and open the tent and then stepping out into the open.

Maia looked around before she inhaled and started walking.

She greeted a few people by saying morning and came across her twin brother, Anthony.

"Morning, sleepy. Nice eyebags." Anthony heard footsteps come towards him and he smiled when he saw it was his sister.

"Fuck off." Maia chuckled lightly and Anthony chuckled along. "How'd you sleep? was the air mattress comfy?" Anthony tilted his head and was chopping some wood.

"I slept amazing, first night of actual sleep i've gotten in five days maybe four?" Maia sighed heavily and looked her brother who readied an axe.

"Since when are you woody wood pecker?" Maia laughed as he twirled the handle of the axe. "I would like you to know, i'm very good at my job." Anthony stated and Maia smiled, raising her eyebrows.

"Is that so? If you were good you would see your axe is blunt." Maia ran her finger on the axe's blade swiftly causing no cut and she showed her brother.

"I knew that." Anthony narrowed his eyes and took a knife that was on a tree stump next to him and Maia shook her head. "Totally." She nodded.

"Where's Lu, and the others?" Maia asked as she watched Anthony sharpen the axe leaning on the tree stump slightly.

"Lu is with the other kids and Izzy, I'm pretty sure she's helping Lori." Anthony shrugged and looked up at his sister.

"You know damn well i'm not good with names, who's Lori?" Maia asked with a fake smile and Anthony shook his head with a slight smile. "Tank man's wife, long brown hair, son with a bowl cut." Anthony explained and Maia smiled.

"Right. Lori, great." Maia nodded and Anthony snorted and she tilted her head. "Shut up, I have always been bad with names, I only remember faces plus now I'm awake and thriving on actual sleep." Maia spoke and Anthony chuckled.

"Glenn asked where you were earlier." Anthony spoke out of context and Maia was taken aback by the sudden change in topic. "Okay, hope you told him I was sleeping soundly." Maia replied in a slight confused tone before shrugging.

"What's the big deal?" Maia sighed furrowing her eyebrows. "Nothing, it's not a big deal I'm just saying." Anthony shrugged and Maia gave him a judgemental look.

"You're doing that weird thing with you face." Anthony spoke as he sharpened the axe. "What weird thing?" Maia asked with the same expression.

"Where you judge people without realizing it, yeah." Anthony looked at Maia who snorted and hit his arm playfully. "You have wood to chop, wood pecker." Maia smiled and pat her brother on the shoulder.

"Don't act on every bad thing, make good choices." Anthony spoke in a teasing tone. "You're not my dad." Maia put a hand over her heart and gasped dramatically before laughing.

"Can't make any promises." Maia winked and Anthony shook his head as Maia walked away from him.

As Maia walked away she walked around glancing at her surroundings and found, Giselle.

"Morning pretty lady." Maia smiled at Giselle who was hanging up some clothes. "Morning, cutie." Giselle replied and Maia smiled softly.

"I didn't hug you yesterday, so i'm gonna hug you now." Giselle hung up a t-shirt before turning to Maia with a smile and embracing her in a tight hug.

"You have grown up so much." Giselle smiled at the woman in front of her and moved a strand of hair out of Maias face. "You look exactly like your mother." Giselle said softly and Maia smiled weakly.

"Do you need any help?" Maia asked politely.

Maia was close with Giselle, Giselle was almost like a second mother to her. She grew up around her and grew close as Izarella and her hung out more often.

Giselle always liked Maia and Anthony, they were her favourite out her daughter's friends. It wasn't like Giselle tried to hide that fact, however it was quite obvious.

"No, don't worry, you look exhausted. Just relax." Giselle winked at Maia who sent her a grin. "Okay, I get it I have eyebags and they're really bad." Maia chuckled lightly.

Giselle laughed softly.

"Yes, yes they are." Giselle laughed honestly. "It's nice to see you again, 'aia." Giselle smiled at Maia who chuckled at the nickname Giselle always called her.

"It's always nice to see you, Giselle." Maia smiled. "I want you to relax today, okay?" Giselle spoke as Maia turned to walk away.

"You know me too well to know that it won't be happening." Maia chuckled and Giselle laughed softly.

"See you around, pretty girl." Giselle smiled as Maia turned around. "Bye, pretty lady." Maia smiled and walked away.

Maia had been looking around the camp and bumping into a few people who she would converse with and then continue the small little cycle before she saw Carol on a hill.

She decided to be nice and go greet her.

Maia walked up the hill with her arms folded across her chest. She wore a Nirvana t-shirt with a pair of black leggings and a pair of scuffed up sneakers she always wore on her days off.

"Oh morning." Carol greeted Maia as she saw her come into view. "Morning, Carol right?" Maia greeted and smiled slightly.

"Yes." Carol smiled softly and Maia smiled a bit wider now knowing she got the woman's name right.

"How are you doing?" Carol asked as she iron some clothes. "I'm alright, thanks." Maia smiled weakly.

"You settling in?" Carol asked and looked up at Maia who stood in front of her. "Yeah, it's peaceful." Maia nodded before sighing awkwardly.

Maia had never been great at small talk with new people. It was like a weakness for her.

"Do you want me to wash your clothes? I noticed you're wearing a new pair." Carol asked politely which caused Maia to perk up immediately.

"Oh no, no it's perfectly fine, I'll wash them myself I don't want to burden you with anything." Maia chuckled awkwardly as she declined the kind offer.

"It wouldn't be a burden if i offered." Carol smiled softly and Maia laughed nervously. "Touché...but still it's alright, thank you though." Maia smiled and Carol returned it.

"Yeah, go on, strip it clean." Glenn yelled to the men taking parts of the car that he used to lure away the walkers.

Maia looked up at the sound of the man's voice and walked up next to Rick.

"Generators need every drop of fuel they can get. Got no power without it, Sorry, Glenn." Dale replied patting Glenn on the shoulder.

"Morning." Dale greeted Maia as he saw her walk up to Rick.

"Morning." Maia nodded with a slight smile, she was trying to be polite.

"Morning." Rick greeted and Maia nodded in return. "I wanted to thank you for uh, deciding to come with. You still helped." Rick gave her a slight smile and Glenn didn't try to intrude on the conversation.

"It's okay, thanks for getting me out the tank, if you didn't i wouldn't be with my siblings." Maia nodded and she seemed kind of tense and Glenn noticed the slight tension in her stance.

"No problem." Rick nodded with and small smile and looked back at the car.

"So baseball cap, why are you sulking over the car?" Maia turned to Glenn who was staring at her slightly from the other side of Rick.

Glenn cleared his throat.

"Thought I'd get to drive it at a few more days." Glenn spoke disappointedly and Rick turned his body to face Glenn.

"Maybe we'll get to steal another one someday." Rick patted Glenn's lower back and Maia chuckled lightly.

"In his defence, that car deserved it. You woke me up from a meaningful nap with that goddamn alarm." Maia tried to make conversation, she added her signature humour hoping it would spark at least a smile.

Glenn chuckled lightly.

"Sorry about that, but it's a really sweet car." Glenn sighed in disappointment.

"Get over it, it's just a vehicle, not a person." Maia sighed and chuckled slightly, she seemed a little less tense than before.

"So uh, you remember me now?" Glenn asked awkwardly, changing the subject after a silence filled the atmosphere.

"Yeah, I got the picture." Maia sighed and Glenn nodded. "What did you mean when you said "I look nicer" what does that mean?" Glenn asked in a hesitant manner.

Maia sighed heavily and looked at Glenn for a minute, scanning his facial features leaving him awkward and nervous.

"I mean, you look better than what you did you in high school. Like what you could call a glow up." Maia nodded slightly trying to explain herself.

"Also mind you, I was pretty much already half asleep." She chuckled before the sound of a vehicle approaching caught everyone's attention.

"Water's here, y'all." Shane's voice piped up as he parked the car. "Just a reminder to boil before use." Shane nodded to Rick.

The sound of the kids screaming from in the trees startled everyone.

"Mom!" Carls voice echoed.

"Guys!" Lara's voice yelled next and everyone ran into the trees looking for the startled kids.
