After a while, everyone was off in their separate corners.

The kids and their moms were doing homework whilst Shane spoke to Jim. Maia was with the kids too.

"Can you pour some on my head?" Jim asked and Maia sent him a glance at the sound of his voice before tuning out the conversation.

Luna was currently counting using her fingers for some addition she was doing.

"What is the answer?" Maia asked Luna softly as she held a pencil in her hand and a paper in front of her. Luna gave Maia an unsure look.

"15?" Luna spoke in an unsure tone and Maia smiled widely. "Yea, good job!" Maia exclaimed excitedly for her sister and the moms laughed at the small gesture.

Luna was only eight years old, younger than the other kids, after everything, she needed some reassurance that she was doing good.

Luna smiled widely and Lara sat next to Maia tapping her shoulder.

Maia turned towards the tap.

"what's up Lara?" Maia looked at the girl with a curious look. Lara licked her lips nervously and pointed to a question.

Maia tilted her head and looked at the question.

"Write a sentence that consists of an adverb of degree." Maia read the question out and turned to Lara.

"What's an adverb of degree?" Lara smiled nervously and Maia chuckled softly.

"Okay, think of it this way, an adverb basically describes a noun, kind of like an adjective but is a doing word, a verb." Maia explained and wrote on Lara's piece of paper.

"Do you know what a degree is?" Maia tilted her head before quickly turning to see Luna writing down her answers.

"Is it like the weather?" Lara tilted her head and asked softly, still visibly nervous and Maia took notice.

"Hey, don't be nervous, it's just me and no not weather degrees, a degree is how far you'll take something, to what degree something is." Maia used her hands to explain, the kids listened, their eyes all going to her.

"So if a question asks for an adverb of degree they'll be referring to something like, "I ate too much candy for breakfast." Maia used it as an example and the kids all laughed softly at the example.

"Do not eat candy for breakfast, I did that and I got a cavity so it wasn't worth it." The kids laughed along softly and the moms smiled.

"So which one do you think is the adverb? which part of the sentence means that they did something to a degree?" Maia asked Lara with a smile.

"Uhm...too?" Lara asks unsure, causing Maia to smile. "Exactly, see, you could do it." Maia smiled softly at Lara who smiled back at her.

"Thank you." Lara smiled and Maia patted the girl's shoulder with a small smile before turning back to Luna who looked up at Maia doe eyed with a nervous look on her face.

The small homework session went on a little bit longer before Jim decided to speak up from his position underneath the tree he was sitting under.

"Sorry if i scared the kids." he apologised, Lori looked up from the page she was working one with Carl.

Giselle looked up as well and stared at Jim.

"It's fine, just try not to do something stupid like that again.

"You could get worse than just sunstroke." Giselle sighed before glancing at Maia who shrugged in return.

"You had sunstroke. Nobody's blaming you." Lori sighed and Maia raised her eyebrows at the response.

Surely Maia would forgive and forget but she wasn't that type of person. She could hold a grudge forever if she had to, Jim scared her sister to the point where she was holding onto Maia for dear life.

Maybe he didn't see and even if he did, he wouldn't understand why.

"You're not scared now are you?" Jim asked the kids, they all turned to him with nervous gazes.

"No, sir." Sophia piped up, glancing at the man up and down before turning back to her work.

Luna wanted to say something but she bit the inside of her cheek to refrain from speaking.

Maia noticed the small gesture and put a hand on Luna's knee, in a reassuring manner.

"Your mom is right, the sun just cooked my head, that's all." Jim spoke to the kids and Maia rolled her eyes subconsciously.

"Maybe it cooked your brain too, so then you wouldn't have had that dumb idea of being out in the sun too long." Maia looked at the paper in front of her however she spoke to Jim, her back was facing him.

"I'm sorry, for what I said, it was insensitive." Jim sighed as he heard the woman's response.

"Look I couldn't give two shi-." Maia cut herself off as she realised kids were still around. "I couldn't care less about what you said alright, just don't scare the kids again." Maia rephrased and Rosalyn laughed quietly.

"I didn't mean to scare them, they had nothing to be scared about." Jim responded.

"Yet, my sister was holding onto me for dear life, so please drop the subject, quit apologising." Maia snapped at him and the kids all stared at her nervously and Luna held onto Maia's hand.

Luna looked nervous, she knew how her sister was. It reminded Luna of their fathers anger issues, he would constantly snap at Maia whenever something annoyed him.

Although Luna knew Maia would never hurt her, she couldn't help but be reminded of the small memory of their father.

"Jim, do you know why you were digging?" Dale piped up and Maia shook her head and went back to work with Luna.

"So 5 plus 8 what is it?" Maia spoke in a sweet tone for her sister, Luna looked nervous still.
Maia noticed this.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Maia leaned closer to Luna, slightly concerned.

"Nothing, I just don't like when you're mad." Luna says in a whisper and looks at the ground.

Maia's heart dropped, she knew what her sister was thinking. She was like her dad and she couldn't change that, she had his eyes and his hair.

Despite Maia's heart ache, she shoved her feelings down so she could stay strong for her sister. It had been something she became good at.

Maia always tried her hardest for her sister, despite everything they've gone through, she still tried to give Luna the best childhood she could have even if Maia herself didn't have one.

The voices of Jim and Dale mumbled in the background while the kids worked and Maia kept her gaze on Luna for a minute.

She didn't want her insecurities to get the better of her, yet she stayed silent after Luna's response.
Glances from Lara, Giselle and Rosalyn gave Maia the impression that they heard the small conversation between the sisters.

Maia sighed to herself before nodding at Luna who bit her bottom lip and held a pencil in her hand.

Hours later, everyone was still waiting for the group to get back from looking for Merle.

The sun had already set and it was dark outside, the only light being the embers of the fire.

The kids were worried, in fact, everyone was worried but they distracted themselves.

The kids played tag, the adults were off doing their own things, whereas Maia was in her tent looking through the bag Luna took with her when they split up.

Maia unzipped the backpack to find a hairbrush at the top, along with a book.

It was a small kids book called Moo Moo, a book that their Mother made for the Koa siblings when they were kids.

Maia smiled subconsciously at the sight of the book and took it out of backpack and examined it.

The cover was old and slightly lifting, the cover had a painted picture of a cow stuffed animal.

Ruth Koa, Maia's mother, was an artist.

She constantly came up with these beautiful ideas for paintings and drawings, something that Maia always admired.

Ruth made the children's story book just for her kids. She would read it to them every night until they fell asleep.

The fond memories of the two twins falling asleep to their Mother's soothing voice in their shared bedroom was a memory Maia cherished.

She promised to read Luna the story whenever she wanted. Luna never met her mother, and it devastated her two older siblings.

So they both promised to take care of Luna the way their father never could.

The tent "door" slid to the side and Luna's head peaked in.

Maia lifted her head from the book cover when she heard the tent open.

"Mai, they're getting food ready, we're having the fish that Andrea and Amy caught earlier." Luna smiled excitedly at Maia and glanced at the book in her hand.

Luna gasped excitedly and climbed into the tent.
Maia smiled.

"Is that the "Moo Moo the cow" book?" Luna asked excitedly and Maia's smile grew wider before nodding to confirm the girl's suspicion.

"It's so pretty." Luna admired the book and Maia handed it to Luna.

"I must hold it?" Luna asked confused and Maia chuckled softly. "Take a look inside, at the back." Maia smiled at her sister.

Luna flipped to the back of the book where a note was written into the back.

it said: 'this book is dedicated to my children, my twins, a son and a daughter and my daughter that will be here soon. This book was an appreciation towards them to show that mothers love their children and care for them. Anthony, Maia and soon — Luna, I love all three of you so much.'

Luna smiled when she read the note at the back, Maia had a look of love and admiration on her face. She loved her sister so unconditionally.

"She loved me?" Luna spoke up randomly however Maia knew exactly what she was speaking about.

"So much." Maia added and held Luna's hand and Luna smiled up at Maia.

"Can we go eat now? I'm really hungry." Luna asked with a smile and Maia laughed softly.

"Yeah, come on." Maia stood up and laid the book on the ground by their bag.

"They have beer." Luna stated with a shrug and Maia laughed.

"Now that's dinner, let's go." Maia smiled at Luna before allowing her to step outside the tent and towards the fire which the group surrounded.

"Look who decided to show up." Rosalyn piped up and the others laughed.

"Haha, really funny." Maia scoffed and rolled her eyes taking a seat next to Giselle and Jacqui handed Maia a beer.

"Life saver, thank you." Maia winked at Jacqui with a smile. "Of course honey." Jacqui replied and Maia opened the beer bottle.

Luna sat on Maia's lap with a goofy smile.

"Can I try some?" Luna asked Maia who put the beer bottle to her lips and sipped the beer.

"No. You're eight, not eighteen." Maia laughed and drank the beer from the bottle, Giselle laughed from beside Jacqui.

"It's not that bad." Rosalyn added and Giselle looked at Rosalyn with a shocked expression.

"And what do you know about beer?" Giselle turned to Rosalyn who just looked at Maia.

Giselle followed Rosalyn's gaze and Maia had the bottle to her lips and stared at Giselle.

Giselle's eyes widened in realisation.

"When did you give my daughter beer? Why did you give my daughter beer in the first place?" Giselle asked, her voice filled with shock and Maia sat silently.

The others laughed.

"I was a menace of a teenager." Maia stated with a shrug and Giselle looked at her in disbelief.

Maia put her beer to her side and wrapped her arm around Luna's torso to give her a sense of safety.

"Do you two want some fish?" Shane offered the two sisters and Maia nodded.

"Please." Maia asked politely and Shane handed the two each a plate with a fork.

"Thank you, Mr Shane." Luna took the plate and Shane laughed softly. "Just Shane, kid." He replied and Maia sighed.

"Thanks." Maia took a bite of the fish and sat quietly eating her food.

The food wasn't enough to distract her from the fact that the others still weren't back from the city.

The fish was getting passed around to everyone in a circle, each having their own conversation before Morales piped up.

"I've got to ask you, man. It's been driving me crazy." Morales piped up and everyone's attention moved to him.

"What?" Dale asked with a slight chuckle, curiosity evident in his tone.

"That watch." Morales pointed to the watch on Dale's wrist.

Dale looked down at his watch.

"What's wrong with my watch?" He asked with confusion, yet he still had a smile on his face.

"I see you everyday, at the same time, winding that thing like a village priest saying mass." The others nodded in agreement.

"I've wondered this myself." Jacqui smiled, sticking the fork into her fish.

"I'm missing the point." Dale looked around the group slightly confused.

"Unless I've misread the signs, the world seems to have come to an end. At least hit a speed bump for a good long while." Jacqui explained and smiled at Dale.

"But there's you every day winding that stupid watch." Morales chuckled slightly as he pointed at Dale's watch once more.

"Time, it's important to keep track, isn't it?" Dale leaned back on his chair.

"The days at least. Don't you think, Andrea?" Dale turned to Andrea and her eyes widened.

"Back me up here." He spoke softer and she chuckled, a silence filled the atmosphere.

Luna however chose to break the silence, she never liked when it was silent, it's why she chose to add her own opinion.

"But there's no point in tracking it anymore, we don't even know what day it is, we don't know if it's Friday right now." Luna added as Maia looked at her and sighed, her arm still around her torso.

"That's true but it's still time, I like...I like what, um, a father said to his son when gave him a watch, that it had been handed down through generations." Dale started and everyone looked at him curiously.

"He said, "I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire, which will fit your individual needs no better than it did mine or my fathers before me, I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you may forget it for a moment now and then and not spend all of your breath trying to conquer it."
Dale had wise words and everyone listened intently. Somehow this little speech made Maia's mind flow immediately to Anthony. She knew he was okay, it just felt right.

Silence filled the air before Amy decided to break it.
"You are so weird." Amy shook her head as she squinted her eyes.

The rest let out a laugh.

"It's not me. It's Faulkner. William Faulkner." Dale responded and Amy rolled her eyes taking a bite of her fish.

"Maybe my bad paraphrasing." Dale smiled before Maia picked up her beer and taking a long sip.
Amy stood up and Andrea followed her movement.

"Where are you going?" Andrea asked in a sweet tone. "I have to pee. Jeez, you try to be discreet around here." Amy sighed and walked off.

Maia let out a silent laugh before everyone joined in.

"We're out of toilet paper?" Amy's voice echoed before a scream erupted.

Andrea looked back in horror to see a walker biting into Amy's arm.

Everyone started screaming terror-stricken, everyone stood up quickly running away from the snarling walkers that came out from behind the RV.

"Maia!" Luna screamed at the top of her lungs, her sobs filled the air.

"I'm right here, stay by me okay?" Maia looked at Luna, her eyes panicked and terror-stricken before she squeezed her tightly.

"Lori, get him down!" Shane yelled cocking his rifle and Maia covered Luna's ears and moved away from Shane as he shot at the walkers.

"Luna, come on!" Maia took Luna's hand and saw Morales get bit by a walker.

Maia's jaw dropped in terror and Luna cried louder, Maia quickly dragged Luna away towards their tent.

"Pack your stuff, pack Anthony's stuff too." Maia looked at Luna, her eyes wide and terrified as she frantically packed away their things, a jacket, hairbrush and the "Moo Moo" book in the backpack.
"Maia, I'm scared." Luna cried and Maia quickly took Luna in for a hug, her breathing ragged.

"I know, I know. We will be fine, okay?" Maia held Luna before getting her gun and putting her bow and arrow on her back.

Maia's knife sat on a log and snarls came closer to the tent.

Luna's scream caught Maia's attention.

A walker pushed its head into the tent and Maia abruptly took the knife and stabbed the walker in the head making its body go limp and fall to the ground.

Luna cried even more and Maia took all of the stuff, Luna picked up her cow stuffed animal and took Maia's hand.

"Come on!" Maia had the bag over her shoulder and her gun in hand, bow and arrow on her back as well as the arrows.

The screams erupted from Amy as a walker bit into her neck.

Andrea ran towards the walkers, yells erupting from her. "No! No!"

Jim swung his bat at the walker and Amy fell limp to the ground.

Maia held Luna's hand tightly and held her close as she followed Shane.

"Everybody stay close!" Shane yelled, keeping the women behind him.

"Come on, y'all! work your way up here!" Shane yelled to Morales and his family.

The commotion got worse, Maia cocked her handgun and shot a walker in the head before making it up higher. She was ready to leave, there was no way in hell she was staying.

Something told her the "safety" was too good to be true.

In the distance you could see Izraella, Glenn, Rick, Daryl, T-Dog and Anthony, shooting at the walkers slowly making their way to the top of the hill.

"Anthony!" Luna yelled seeing Anthony shooting at the walkers ahead of him. This caught Maia's full attention and she looked back to see Anthony and the others shooting.

"Baby! Carl!" Rick's voice echoed and Carl saw his dad.

"Dad!" He yelled and ran to his father, seeking comfort.

"Izraella!" Rosalyn and Giselle yelled in unison and Izraella ran towards her family engulfing them in a group hug. Rosalyn was crying and Giselle was terrified.

"Anthony!" Maia yelled for her twin brother and he ran towards his two sisters hugging them both tightly.

"Are you two okay?" He noticed the bag on Maia's back. "What are you doing with the bag?" He asked Maia and she looked with him with anxiety-stricken eyes.

"You think I'm gonna stay here with Luna and you, after all of this shit? No. I'm not staying here, there is no safety anymore." Maia explained and she breathed heavily, as Anthony hugged a sobbing Luna.

Everyone looked around for more walkers, panting and all alarmed.

Sobs from Andrea caused Maia to look in the direction, Andrea was sobbing, blood all over her hands.

Amy was laying on the ground, unable to move, blood drenched her neck and arms, she was trying so hard to breath, the sound of her gagging on blood came out and Luna looked to the direction.

Anthony quickly shielded Luna's face and Maia stood in front of Luna so she was unable to look at the scene.

Amy's breathing was rapid and wobbly, she was looking at her sister, scared and pained, Maia couldn't help but cover her hand over her mouth in horror, she couldn't imagine what she'd do if it was one of her siblings.

"I don't know what to do, Amy." Andrea's voice was wobbly, scared and tears filled her eyes.

Amy tried to talk and her fingers grazed the side of Andrea's face, before she closed her eyes, and her chest stopped heaving.

The realisation slowly dawned on everyone who watched the scene unfold, it was heartbreaking to see someone die so fast.

Andrea's voice got softer and tears started rolling down her cheeks and onto Amy's face

Everyone watched the scene unfold with sad eyes and horror. The group started crying, all holding each other for comfort.

Maia stood there numb, she watched an innocent girl die so quickly, all she could do was stand there and watch.

She froze, she couldn't do anything.

"Now I remember my dream. Why I dig the holes." Jim spoke up and Maia's gaze went to Jim.

Everything was real, this wasn't a dream. It was the world that they lived in today.

You never knew when you would take your last breath.
