BALANCE. It's what keeps the universe from exploding into chaos, it's what keeps the planets spinning on their axes instead of being thrown into the abyss. Humans have understood this concept for millennia, its most famous form, perhaps, being the Chinese symbol of yin-yang. The lesser-known version of this school of thought was adapted by the Japanese monk Gwalleuk. It was later introduced through the belief of Taoism, with its official Japanese name being Onmyōdō. Now, those who are not as familiar with such academic principles accept the most basic understanding of the concept as this: within light, there must be dark; within dark, there must be light.
Sheriff Donovan Galpin understood this idea better than most. While he didn't have the formal names for these beliefs, he didn't have to: he experienced them with his wife on a frequent basis. When his son was born, he knew that this particular trait would be passed down, leaving the young boy vulnerable to negative influence. So, he devised a plan that would help prevent history from repeating itself: having another child with his wife was out of the question, so he sought out a sister for his son. He hoped that a female presence would ease some of Tyler's worse breakdowns and that the siblings would protect each other from harm. He got his wish, but not exactly in the way he'd expected.

― So this is the Wednesday Addams fic that I mentioned on my message board awhile back. I fully intended to write this but when I tried, I wasn't as motivated about it as I hoped I' d be, so I shifted it to my plot shop. Buckle up, because there's a lot of stuff.
― While normally I prefer that the OC has their own family (i.e., not a part of the canon character's), I made an exception to this since I thought it would make the story more interesting. Obviously we know about Tyler's Hyde-ism but we don't know much about it, which leaves a lot of room to make up head canons.
― In this case, October is Tyler's perfect foil. The Sheriff is also more aware of his son's condition in this fic and tries to take active measures to curb it, which is why he adopts October. While this takes place way before the story starts and isn't really shown in the plot, he's the one who does the research and finds October somewhere in the States. The reason that I say 'research' is because October's power is more Animagus-like as she can only shapeshift into one creature, but unlike Tyler she can do so at will, in a controlled way.
― This is the reason why I've picked a Japanese actress to portray her: the animal she can turn into is called a Baku, which is essentially a beast from Japanese mythology that can eat nightmares. I thought that her presence would help to suppress Tyler's uncontrolled transformations as she siphons away his anger. (But to clarify: she is not an Empath. It's only the powers of the Baku that allow her to do this.) Her other power is sensitive hearing, which carries over into her human form (because of the 'lose one sense, gain another,' which is the explanation she gives to the 'outcasts,' though it's much more sensitive than any human's could be.)
― October has a very rocky relationship with her adopted father. It's not so bad when she's little (he's the one who gifts her the only Braille book she owns, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.) But after his wife dies, he becomes as cold and distant to her as he is to Tyler, perhaps even more so. He sends her off to Nevermore because he wants to have as little parenting to do as possible.
― Now, there are a few things to note about October's presence in the story: the first is that, at Nevermore, everyone- even Wednesday (only Principal Weems knows the truth)- believes that she's a normie. This is very important to the rest of the plot, as will be explained below. She flies under the radar, though the 'outcasts' are suspicious of her presence and mostly leave her alone. Two: to aid in her unobtrusiveness, I've elected to make her mostly blind. (She has limited peripheral vision.) In the backwards town of Jericho, even fewer people will suspect a disabled person of being connected to anything nefarious. Finally, October and Tyler act the like normal siblings (not like the ones portrayed in YA books where they greet each other 'hey sis' and 'hey bro.') They get along well enough most of the time but when they fight, it's very bad (I feel like Tyler has a jealous streak and October doesn't like being told what to do.) But, at the end of the day, they'll protect each other to the bitter end.
― Here's the catch: October (obviously, perhaps) knows about Tyler's Hyde-ism. She also knows that Thornhill has control over him. In order to look out for her brother, she's willingly 'sold' herself to Thornhill so that when he transforms, Tyler doesn't hurt more people than necessary. Since she's the only other person that has 'control' over her brother, Thornhill keeps a very close eye on her. (Hence why people think that she's Thornhill's 'favorite.')
― Things get complicated once Wednesday comes into the picture. For one, she's the first person in all of Jericho that doesn't make derogatory/ableist comment about October's blindness. That puts her in October's good graces until Wednesday's detective work on the Hyde begins. I'll explain more about their relationship below, but October does everything she can to be a part of the investigation and at every turn, tries to plant misinformation in Wednesday's path to protect her brother (and herself, since Thornhill wouldn't be too fussed about offing her.) She doesn't like Xavier because he likes Wednesday a little too much, in her opinion, so it's easy for her to frame him.
― One scene you could portray is what the therapy session that we the beginning of when Tyler visits Dr. Kinbott. I imagine that it's very easy to get him to start ranting, so he vents about how October should stay away from Wednesday. This starts one of their infamous fights as October doesn't appreciate being told what to do.
― Some cute moments: when Wednesday escapes her therapy session, she goes to the Weathervane like normal, and Tyler tells her that she can either find another ride or wait with his sister (October having a brother is new information to her)- she chooses the latter. The Sheriff warns both October and Tyler to stay away from her, but of course they don't listen.
― At the fairgrounds when the Hyde attacks Rowan, October transforms into the Baku and she's the one that keeps Tyler from hurting Wednesday.
― That night after Wednesday plays her cello and has her talk with Enid, she comes back inside to find that October is still awake.
― "I liked your music," October says. "Do you play?" Wednesday asks, since there's no way Enid would know how to, nor have an appreciation for it. "Do you think I can?" October replies self-deprecatingly, with a vague gesture to her eyes. Wednesday pauses for a moment before an idea forms in her mind. Without warning, she strides forward and grasps October by the wrist to pull her into a standing position. After much protesting and excuse making ("I'm afraid of heights! What if I fall?" "I won't let you, idiot."), Wednesday manages to get her out onto the balcony where she helps October play a simple song on her cello, where she decides that October isn't so bad.
― When they do the service day in Jericho, October gets assigned handing out fudge samples. Wednesday gets the antique shop, but when she finds out that they're not working together, she convinces Enid to switch with her (but under the guise that it would be better for Enid.) After what the pilgrim boys did in the Weathervane (October has bad history with them), Wednesday's reluctant to leave her alone in 'their territory.'
― Since Jericho is a very strait-laced town, Principal Weems forces October to 'act like a blind person' (wearing sunglasses and using a cane) to fit in with the stereotype and make her handicap more 'palatable.' October is a little confused by how pissed Wednesday is when she finds out. She calls the order stupid and insists that October leaves at least her cane behind (because 'it's not her.') October protests again with the excuse of 'unfamiliar terrain,' so Wednesday replies "well, if you're so worried about it, I'll guide you." She then begrudgingly (making a big deal about how inconvenient this is) guides October by the wrist while complaining about it the whole day. (But she doesn't really mind.) When Wednesday sets the statue on fire, October is the only one who doesn't run (mostly because she can't see and no one stops to help her), but she's not in danger and stays to listen to Wednesday's playing.
― When they go to the 'haunted mansion,' Wednesday first claims October as her partner (with the intent of guiding her like she had during the service day), but Enid complains that she doesn't think Tyler would win in a fight at the same time he insists that he wants October ("she's my sister, after all!") and October reluctantly goes with Tyler because she knows what he's planning. They both transform and she prevents the Hyde from hurting Wednesday and Enid. When they regroup, she puts on the front that she's worried about Tyler's injury (which isn't hard since she is worried), while Wednesday callously asks something like "it didn't get you, did it?" (pretending like she doesn't care.)
― As the two girls closeer (even if Wednesday acts like October's presence is an unwanted burden), the Rav'n dance happens. At first, of course, they plan to track the Hyde with Eugene (though October will point them in the wrong direction), but then Tyler appears and Wednesday suddenly changes her mind and goes to the dance with him. October's pissed at Tyler and Wednesday (they get into a bit of a fight), so she decides to go into the woods with Eugene. (Cue sarcastic blind joke: 'we'll have an easy time finding the Hyde with only two eyes between us.')
― The Hyde makes its appearance and October tries to stop it from attacking Eugene, but they're caught off guard so she can't transform fast enough. She gets injured (though less so than Eugene since Tyler can recognize her in some capacity.) Wednesday finds them in the woods and gets the to the hospital where October is knocked out for a few days. During that time, Wednesday stays with her as much as possible, even if it delays her research. However, when October wakes up, it's less then a warm welcome. The first question Wednesday asks is "what do you remember?"
― While October was, at first, pleased that Wednesday had stayed with her, she quickly grows annoyed at her investigative (and uncaring) questioning, so she kicks Wednesday out of the room.
― Once she's recovered, October is no longer guilty about misleading Wednesday and feeds her more lies. Maybe as a way of making up with hi sister (and apologizing for hurting her), Tyler sets up the 'not-date' in the crypt for them. (Cue the meme: 'did you just ask her out for me?')
― Wednesday doesn't tell October about her plan to tie Tyler up since October would put a stop to that immediately. In fact, at some point in the later episodes, she gets suspicious that October is feeding her false information, so she keeps from telling her too much about anything (hence 'Suspicious minds' by Elvis Presley.) I don't know if October would find out about Wednesday's plan or not (maybe the rest of the students tell her after Wednesday reveals that she wants to torture him.)
― In the final showdown against the undead pilgrim guy, October forgives Wednesday for her transgressions and transforms into the Baku to help her. Wednesday still doesn't know that she's the Baku, but she does recognize her from when she appeared with the Hyde. Transformed, October appears at Wednesday's time of greatest need and pins the pilgrim guy down to allow Wednesday to finish him off.
― Wednesday's smart so she probably figures out that October is the Baku (once she learns that Tyler is the Hyde- but not by kissing him since she likes October even if she doesn't want to admit it, maybe she touches his hand or something instead) and October explains everything to her after it's all over. Since they're both very morally gray characters, Wednesday isn't too upset about what October did; in fact, she's a little impressed with how devious it was.
― When October goes home, Donovan tells her what happened to Tyler. They get into a massive fight about he treats her brother and she runs away. She goes to the only place that she can think of, which is Wednesday's. When Wednesday opens the door, she apologetically explains "I don't have anywhere else to go."
― VERY slow burn since Wednesday isn't super romantic. I don't think they'd kiss until the second season. Also, it's important to note October is NOT helpless; she's become accustomed to her blindness and can navigate daily life with only minor hiccups (as Jericho does not seem like the kind of town to be handicapped-friendly.)
― Feel free to use any of the graphics provided when creating the book, but make sure you credit me as the creator in addition to the plot. Also, you don't have to use all the quotes provided in the 'description + epigraph' section but I wanted to make sure I got the right vibe across.
