▬▬▬in which Kaia Brown longs for James Potter, but he only has eyes for Lily Evans.

KAIA BROWN IS A ROMANTIC AT HEART. She loves happily-ever-afters, unrequited love and the prince finding the princess― she just doesn't want the heartache before the happy ending to happen to her. Yet, it seems that this is unavoidable: she has fallen in love with James Potter. He puts out a brash, class-clown front but when he thinks that no one is watching, his features soften. Kaia noticed how gently his hazel eyes beheld Lily Evans (when he wasn't obnoxiously asking her out), she saw how, when he was with his friends, his smile seemed to light up his entire face, causing his features to crease with amusement. She admired the brilliance behind his pranks (rather than the inconvenience or comedy everyone else saw them as) and how loyal he was. Even as she pined for him, however, she knew that he would never be hers. He was only ever interested in Lily Evans and that was that― or so she thought.

By some miracle, she's paired with him in Potions during their sixth year. At first she's too shy to say anything to him at all and her hands tremble as she works with their potions ingredients. On James' part, he thinks that Kaia is just a silly girl and hardly pays her any mind, too caught up in watching Lily's red hair glow in the dim light of the dungeons. It's only when he almost slips up and puts the wrong ingredient in does he take note of his partner― Kaia grabbed his hand to save their potion. As soon as her fingers wrap around his wrist, his eyes meet her brown ones and, with no small amount of shock, realizes that Lily is looking right back at him.

Of course, Lily is on the other side of the room and hates his guts. But Kaia's wide, intelligent gaze is so reminiscent of the girl he loves that it's all too easy to get confused― not to mention that she's a much easier target. Yet, even as he begins to pursue a new love interest, Lily's green eyes and spitfire attitude are always in the back of his mind. Torn between two lovers, he's back and forth between Lily and Kaia for the remainder of the year.

At first, Kaia is ecstatic when James asks her to go to Hogsmeade with him. It's all her dreams come true at once― or so she thinks. It's only as time passes that she begins to realize that James Potter could never really get over Lily Evans. Their relationship is rocky at best and every time they break up, Kaia is devastated. The only truly good thing to come out of her emotional turmoil is her newfound relationship with the rest of James' friends― Sirius Black in particular, who seems to be there to catch her every time she hits rock-bottom.

― Kaia is a very bright, happy girl with a sunshine personality. She's definitely got (stereotypical) Hufflepuff qualities so I would probably put her in that House. Since we know that sixth year potions is just anyone who can pass OWLs, this still makes it possible for her to share a class with James.

― Speaking of James, she's had puppy-love for him pretty much since first year. He was the last person to leave Charms as the Hufflepuffs were going in and while he doesn't remember it, he held the door open for her. Since she loves the idea of love and fairytale endings, it was easy for her to have a crush on him after that.

― They don't interact much between first and sixth year since Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors don't have classes together. When they're finally paired up in Potions, Kaia can't believe her luck and she's a stuttering mess around James. He doesn't think much of this- or her at all, really- until the day he's so distracted by Lily that he almost blows up their potion.
       ― Then Kaia is suddenly all he can think about, but he feels guilty because he's been 'loyal' to Lily for so long. But both Sirius and Remus encourage him to ask out a girl who actually likes him and try dating for once. He takes their advice and- while he enjoys his time with Kaia once she can form full sentences around him- he almost feels worse about Lily afterwards.

― Cue lots of back-and-forth as he tries to figure out his feelings. Eventually Remus- while he had been supportive at first- advises that maybe James should break up with Kaia so he's not playing with her feelings if he's unsure about his.

― This is the Kaia's first major breakup and emotional breakdown. She's grown close with all of the Marauders and because she's no longer going out with James, she feels like she lost three friends instead of just her boyfriend. She feels like it would be breaking unofficial rules to spend time with the boys she's grown to care about (because they're his friends, not hers), so she distances herself from them. (Also, Potions has become very awkward.)

― Sirius is the one who finds her in the kitchens a couple of weeks post-breakup. At first she tries to leave without talking to him, but eventually they sit down together. While she's talked with Sirius before, she's never paid attention to how easy it was- even easier than it had been with James. 

― When James tries and fails (again) to get Lily to be his girlfriend, he goes back to Kaia to ask for forgiveness. At this point, she still really, really likes him so she agrees. (Cue conversation 'what happened to your dignity?' 'I gave it all to you.')
       ― When they're together, James and Kaia are very cute (almost sickeningly so.) However, when they're apart, their breakups and the fallout is very, very messy.
       ― This pattern continues for the rest of the year: every time James is convinced that this is when Lily will agree to go out with him, he breaks up with Kaia. Sirius is then her shoulder to cry on until James asks her out again. Over time, Sirius has become fond of her- and even more than that. But since James is his best mate, he would never try to make a move on Kaia (especially when she still likes James.) It pains him every time she cries because of James and, if they weren't practically brothers, Sirius would 'save' her from him. (The prince that Kaia has always wished for.)

― James and Kaia break up once more at the end of sixth year. She's determined that this will be her 'hot girl summer' (even if the trend didn't exist in the 70s.) When they return for seventh year, she's resolved to not pay James any mind. In fact, has Sirius become more attractive?

― The book can stop there or we can work out a plot for seventh year; I was basing this idea off of Amy Winehouse's song Back to Black- literally. 'You go back to her' is James picking Lily over Kaia while 'I go back to black' is Sirius comforting Kaia.

― Feel free to use any of the graphics provided when creating the book, but make sure you credit me as the creator in addition to the plot. Also, you don't have to use all the quotes provided in the 'description + epigraph' section but I wanted to make sure I got the right vibe across.
