XXIX. Tom Riddle

The One with Clarity

Tom glances over his shoulder when a Ravenclaw is answering Slughorn's question. His eyes linger on your icy blue eyes when you answer the question.
"Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what attracts them," you say, causing Slughorn to smile widely.
"Well done, Miss L/N!" Slughorn beams, "well, class if you will form a line." Tom watches you walking past him and he smells the scent of mint mixed with chocolate. He shook off the feeling and waited in the line.
He smells the potion and smirks satisfied. The scent of poison, blood, and books. Another smell made its way inside his nostrils. The one of mint mixed with chocolate.

That Saturday night, Tom attends the Slug party. He genuinely hated it, but always succeeded to fake his smile.
When he enters the room, the smell of mint and chocolate fills his nose trills. His eyes scan the room and there you stan - in a simple royal blue dress.
The Slytherin felt his heart skip a beat when his eyes crossed yours. Ice blue with chocolate brown. You sent him a small smile. Tom, being the gentleman, walks over and offers you a drink.
That's when it all started.

Tom stood near the window, his hands resting on his back. He had succeeded in splitting his soul, making him an immortal soul. Yet, his mind was somewhere else. On the half-blood Ravenclaw with the icy blue eyes.
"My Lord?" a female voice reaches his ears. He turns around to face the woman who has been obsessed with him the moment she met him. "Lestrange." Her smile disappears and informs him what he needs to hear. The name L/N fell and his cold heart melted the slightest.
"Get them, I want them alive and unharmed." His demand is clear and sharp. Soon he will see you again, the corner of his mouth twitches into smirk by the idea.
Bellatrix left her Lord in the room, feeling angry with that L/N. Lord Voldemort should be looking at her instead of that betrayer. She will learn you a lesson the moment she lays her eyes on you.

Bellatrix was leading the hunt, desperately searching for the betrayer. ''Wait, I can sense her,'' says one of the snatchers, Scabior. He nods and scans the area, ''they are close.'' ''Remember, we need them alive and unharmed,'' Bellatrix tells in a rather bored voice.
''They must have used a shield to hide them,'' Scabior deducts. He stood very close to you and you had to hold to breath. ''I can smell her. Mint and Chocolate,'' he says in ecstasy as he smells again. It made both you and Bellatrix want to vomit.
You saw them walking around, holding your breath because he was standing close.

Slowly but well, the shield started to disappear. One of the snatchers that were patrolling the area, raised his wand to inform Bellatrix. Bellatrix came gambolling, like a small child, and cracked an evil laugh.
''Take them, she's mine,'' she smirks towards you. You swallow harshly as Bellatrix stalks closer, like a hunter over its prey. ''Let's go back,'' she snarls, grabs your arm. There followed a loud crack and you were gone. Bellatrix threw you on the floor and immediately pinned you down.

''Make one sound and I'll kill within the second,'' Bellatrix hisses and rolls your sleeve. She grabs her small dagger and your eyes widen when it clicked. You felt the cold metal stinging into your skin. You squirm under the strong grip of Bellatrix, trying hard not to make any sound.
The carving felt like forever and you slowly started to lose your consciousness. ''BELLATRIX LESTRANGE! EXPLAIN YOURSELF NOW!'' A voice like a foghorn filled the room, causing Bellatrix to shrink and drops her dagger. She knew to whom that voice belonged. You tilt your head in the direction of the sound and vaguely saw a tall man.
''How dare you to treat her like this?! Haven't I told you not to harm anyone and I needed everyone alive!'' His voice was back to normal decibels, but still raised. He walks down the stairs. ''Why do you care of this filthy half-blood?!'' Bellatrix shot back. She looks at Tom's clenched jaw and really thought he was attractive.

''She isn't a nobody, this is the girl who is holding my heart. The girl who does my cold heart melt. The Heir Of Rowena Ravenclaw,'' Tom says, watching your unconsciousness body. His eyes hardened when he looked at Bellatrix.
"Don't you ever touch her again!" He swiftly scoops up your body and heads to his room, leaving Lestrange broken behind.

Tom lays you on his bed and watches you. He carefully reveals the mark Bellatrix left. Tom had to close his eyes to calm down. He opens them again, getting angry every time he sees it. Filthy Half-Blood.
You stir awake, feeling the pain in your arm. You look at your am and mutter, "so it was real." Tom turns around and his mouth turns into a small smile. "You are awake," he says, walking closer.

"What happened?" you ask, gazing into these beautiful orbs. Merlin, I have missed those eyes. You were not the only one who had that thought in mind.
"I was informed that intruders had gone into my territory and gave the order to get them. I wanted them alive and unharmed. Bellatrix had caught you for herself and carved that into your arm," he says, cautiously touching it. You winced but remained calm.
"I roared at Bellatrix, I had told her that I wanted them alive and unharmed. I had told her that I'll always choose you, above anyone." He had chosen not to say that you are holding his heart, but you had heard that part too.

You silently sat next to Tom in the library, both minding their own business. Students who were in the library were whispering to each other about them. Obviously, both of you noticed.
You finally glance up, "will you shut up already!" The students closed their mouths and left the library. You sigh as you focus on your book. Tom, on the other hand, snuggled his hand on top of your, making your breath hitch. It also caught you off guard, which he noticed.

"W-what are you doing?" you ask, clearly off guard. Tom only watches your confused expression and everything in him says he has to do it right now. He has had enough of all the prying eyes on the Ravenclaw. It was time to finally claim his territory.
He shifts his eyes to your lips and back to your eyes. You had noticed his gesture and it immediately clicked inside your head. You automatically bite your lip, which Tom fancies about you. He cups your cheek with his hand and brings your face closer to his. Your eyes widen when you felt his soft lips against yours.
The Slytherin Headboy smiles when you cup his cheek too. You pull back with obviously flustered cheeks. ''We can't do this,'' you sighed, earning a raised brow from Tom. "'Why not?'' You notice a hint of sadness in his voice, ''people will talk, you know.''

''Do you care about these people?'' Tom points out. Tom's gaze bore into yours and you knew you didn't care at all what people would think. ''No, but I thought, maybe you,-'' you couldn't finish your sentence because Tom had planted his lips on yours.
''I don't care at all,'' he smiles. You giggle, ''we will be the topic of the day, so be prepared.'' ''Well, I actually hate saying this, because this isn't me. But, as long it is with you, I can handle it.'' It melted your heart and as a response, you gave him a small kiss.

''Why did you save me?'' you ask, Tom sitting next to you on the bed. He tilts his head in your direction, ''because you had always captured my attention. Even after all these years.'' ''Why, I'm just a half-blood.'' You had kissed him several times, but you never had thought he would love someone.
''You were the brightest witch, you were the only one who kept up my pace due to your intelligently.'' He pauses for a moment before admitting something he has never told someone else before. He rises on his feet, walking to the window before speaking. ''I am no pure-blood.'' ''You are not? Oh, then I'm not the only Heir who is a half-blood.''
Tom glanced over his shoulder and tried to look surprised, only to earn an eye roll from you. ''Don't act surprised, I'm not stupid. I've heard everything you said to Lestrange.'' That made Tom's breath hitch but it stables quickly. He could have been prepared on you, hearing all he said. You rise on your feet to stand next to him.

"Lovely, isn't it? Two Heirs in love with each other," you phrase. Tom shows surprise in his expression, but it quickly turns into a curious smirk. "You love me?" He eyed the beginning blush on your cheeks.
"Well, if I had heard it all clear, you said I'm holding your heart." Your hand softly touches his chest, the place where his heart lies. You took a deep breath before looking him in the eyes, "was it true?"

Tom covers your hand with his, it feels warm and familiar. He leans in closer and your forehead touch, causing both to close their eyes. "Every word," he whispers softly.
You both tilt your head, staring at each other's lips. You bit your lip before you had eagerly closed the gap, something you've been missing for a long time. Tom felt his heart flutter at the touch of your lips, I've missed this so much. Dear Salazar.
"You are the best part of me," Tom pulls back, examining your eyes. You shift your eyes to the view, "you broke me when you left." Your voice was a little wobbly.

Tom pulls your chin, causing you to look in his eyes. This is one of the rare moments, where Tom shows emotions. His eyes showed guilt, sadness, and love. "I-I'm sorry, I-really do," he says soft-spoken. "I must admit, you didn't leave my thoughts. I did visit you, when you were asleep."
You could only stare into his eyes, feeling overwhelmed. A single tear leaves the corner of your eye, which Tom wipes away with his thumb. "Why didn't you wake me?" your voice was small and vulnerable. "I couldn't do that to you, me leaving again. I wouldn't have let you go with me."

Tom slowly takes you in his embrace. His heartbeat was able to calm you down and steadied your breathing. "Join me," he whispers. Deep down, you knew he was going to say this. "Join me and you are stuck with me forever," he chuckles softly. You could imagine the grin on his face.
"Come back to me," he says with a kiss on your head, "I'll never leave you again." "How are you so sure? I've seen the prophecy." "Because I will kill the Potter boy," he gritted his teeth.

Your mind was working at high speed. You jumped to the conclusion and have made your decision. "I will join you," you say, snuggling into his chest. Tom smiles and places another kiss on your head.

"Does it hurt?" Tom asks while you are examining the mark on your left forearm. "A little," you say, shifting your gaze at him. Tom places a kiss on the mark, which eases the pain a little. "Thank you."

"My Lord?" Lucius calls and bows as Tom turns to him. He turns back to you, "come. I need to go to a meeting." He rolls his eyes and takes your hand in his. Lucius' eyes widened at the sight. "Do you want to say something, Malfoy?" Tom snaps. "N-no, my Lord!"
Tom smirks satisfied and walks to the room where Bellatrix had attacked you. "I'll be back soon," he whispers in your ear. You nod and let go of his hand. "Good luck," you smile.

Once Tom was gone, Bellatrix peeked her head around the corner. You were in the large library, admiring all the books. Bellatrix drew her wand and snuck closer. You had your nose stuck in a book, but something told you weren't safe.
Just when Bellatrix shot her Cruciatus Curse, you turned around and blocked it. ''Hello Lestrange,'' you smirk. Bellatrix eyes widen because you had blocked her spell and you had no wand in your hand. ''There's no reason to fight me,'' you continue.
''Oh, I have one,'' she hisses. ''Feel free to tell me.'' You cross your arms over your chest, waiting for her explanation. ''The fact that Lord Voldemort has fallen for a half-blood while I am a full pure-blood!'' ''Okay, I never liked to use my rank, but I am the Heir of Rowena Ravenclaw.'' Bellatrix eyes widened, realising her Lord didn't lie. ''So, he was speaking the truth?''

You nodded, but Bellatrix didn't lower her wand. You feel your mark tingle, knowing that Tom was signalling you. You turned around, your back facing Lestrange. Bellatrix shot another curse, but you blocked it with no effort.
Bellatrix didn't give up that easily and kept shooting curses. ''This has no use, Lestrange,'' you say, but she doesn't listen. Tom appears in the door opening and sighs. ''BELLATRIX! Y/N!'' he roars. Both stopped and Bellatrix quickly made up an excuse.
''She started to hex me!'' Bellatrix whines. Tom shifts his eyes from Bellatrix to you. ''Is this true, Y/N?'' Tom asks, already knowing the answer. ''No, I was just reading in the library and Lestrange fired the Cruciatus Curse.''

''Bellatrix, did you do that?'' Tom asks and Bellatrix nods. Tom sighs, ''you know you'll never be able to reach me. You have to stop acting like a little child!'' Bellatrix sighed heavily and turned to you. ''My apologies for attacking you and carving into your arm.'' You could hear that she did mean it. ''It's alright, apologies accepted,'' you smile.
     That made Tom forgive her too. ''Bellatrix?'' Bellatrix turns around to face her Lord. ''Don't ever do this again. It has no use what you have in mind,'' he says, taking a breath before saying;

"I will always choose her"
