𝓙ames Buchanan Barnes walked through the busy market of Bucharest. His ocean blue irises glanced around him to the bodies of people who roamed around him buying from the street venders. He looked down at the basket before grabbing what he needed following with payment.

His eyes glanced up to the small television perched on a shelf showcasing the news.

"Mulțumesc." He mumbled taking a hold of the brown bag in his hands, his eyes trained on the television still.

"Chaos has struck Norway, when a group of robots have appeared out of the blue. The Avengers have been nowhere to be seen since their last whereabouts in the African Coast where one of The Avengers had gone rogue nearly killing dozens of people." The woman on the screen said, a chaos erupted behind her through the streets, with rioters surrounding her. "No one knows if they're alive or dead." Her voice cut out as the screen began to fizzle out, customers around him watched the screen in fear and confusion.

"Melody." He whispered before dropping the bag to the floor and rushing out of the busy streets back to his apartment.

• • ＮＯＲＷＡＹ

𝓐 dark figure crept through the shadows of where the Legions were currently staying out alongside Ultron himself. His baby blues darkened to an almost sea colour as he watched the robotic figures perched next to where he assumed would be Melody and Natasha.

After some digging, and GPS tracking curtesy of HYDRA, he had been able to find Melody and it lead him to where he was now. During his arrival he had managed to get himself through the radio and surveillance pinpointing it's location to the red heads cell.

Standing to his boot covered feet, he stood out from the shadows.

"Intruder-" The Legion began only to have it's head be ripped off from it's body. Bucky held the metal head, flickering lights appeared at the end of the wiring of the metal scrap in his hands.

His eyes narrowed as another appeared before him raising their hand towards him to blast him away.

Throwing the scrap of metal to the floor he ran forwards twisting the Legion's hand, snapping it off. Taking his blade and plunging it through it's eye, slicing the metal head in half.

He continued his trek down to the gallows of the building.

'Error'

He tilted his head at the sound. Approaching the cells slowly he overhead two feminine voices arguing with each other quietly, plus the robotic one. Bucky came to a stop in the shadows, seeing a figure in the distance rushing to another cell. Bruce Banner.

Turning his attention back he made his way to the cell before him.

His brows knitted together as he gripped the metal bars with his hand. With an effortless tug, the bars flew across the room colliding with the stone wall then to the floor.

"Come any closer and I'll rip your metal parts off and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I'd say the appropriate term but if Steve were here, he wouldn't be too happy with my choice of words." A voice warned. Bucky stepped forwards looking down at the figure, "Bucky?" Melody said quietly looking up at the man before her; though he looked like he had when he was The Winter Soldier; mask and all.

"Can't stay out of trouble for one day?" He asked, his voice slightly muffled by the black mask that wrapped around the lower half of his face.

Melody jolted forwards wrapping her arms around his torso, tensing slightly soon relaxing, Bucky's arms made their way around her upper half.

The two stayed like that for what felt like hours before Bucky pulled away.

"Let's go," He instructed, placing his arm around her and pulling her with him.

"Natasha-"

"One of your friends came for her. They started evacuating the city." He explained as he rushed her out of the building out of sight from anymore enemies. "Hurry."

"What are - how did you know?" She asked gripping onto his metal hand, halting his movements.

Bucky turned around before removing the mask from his face, his eyes loomed down on her, "The news, then this." He said pointing to her watch.

Melody titled her head, "You were tracking me?" She asked slightly offended.

"I have been." He said simply.

Melody parted her lips, "You've been tracking me this entire time? For how long?"

"Since I found you sneaking into my apartment." He said referring to when she had been caught by him the first night. "We don't have time for this, I have to get you out of the city." He said grabbing onto her wrist only for her to yank it back defiantly. "Melody-" He gritted out, slightly annoyed with her stubbornness.

"I can't leave." She argued, "Ultron is going to kill everybody if we don't stop him." She said stepping forwards, her face inches away from his, "You shouldn't have come for me." She whispered, "If they find out-"

"They won't."

"You don't know that." Shaking her head she looked down, "Even if you do stay, he's going to kill everybody. You need to get far away from here, as far as you can." She pleaded reaching for his flesh hand. "Please, just go. Thank you for rescuing me but I want you to leave."

"I'm not leaving you." He said sternly.

"I shouldn't have gone that night." She mumbled to herself pulling away from him, Bucky's eyes narrowed at her words. "I shouldn't have left Steve to look for you even if I knew he wouldn't have any luck." She rambled to herself. "It's my fault."

Bucky's eyes held hurt as he looked at her, "Well, you did." He remarked, his tone coming out harsher then he had intended to.

"I'm sorry." Melody shook her head, "You didn't want anything to do with this, HYDRA, S.H.I.E.L.D. You wanted to have a normal life; something you deserved after everything you've been through. And now you're here and-"

"I came here on my own." He said taking a step forwards, towering above her. "On my free will. I knew I'd risk being caught, but I came. And now I'm here and I'm not leaving you alone. Not until you're out of the city."

"Don't you get it?" Melody exclaimed looking at him with sad eyes, "He's going to try and kill everyone. Everything on the planet will be gone, turned to dust after he's done with it. You need to go back, you shouldn't have to die here."

Bucky shook his head, he licked his lips choosing his words carefully, "I'm with you till the end of the line." Melody's brows knitted together at the phrase he shared with his best friend. "I used to tell Steve that." He admitted.

Melody nodded, "I know." She whispered pointing to her forehead signalling she read him.

"You've looked out for me because of him. I've killed so many people I don't even know how many. I'm a murderer, a lab rat with a metal arm; you checked on me, making sure I wasn't completely losing my mind. I've never had that before." He said his tone now softer then before, "I don't remember what it was like to have a friend until you came. You have no idea how badly I want to be there for Steve but after everything I've done - I know I can't. And he's better playing superhero whilst I'm on my own." Melody's lips quivered at his words, she could practically feel his pain weighing down on her own heart. "So yeah, even if we turn to dust today. I'll do it with you, because I'm with you until the end of the line."

Melody's doe irises search this own seeing nothing but vulnerability and honesty.

Hearing rock crumbling, like a building collapsing in the distance the two turned around.

"It's started." She whispered gripping his hands turning him towards her, "No one's turning to dust today, and no line is going to end today." She said as a matter of fact.

"What do you want me to do?" Bucky looked down at the nymph with stern look.

𝓒haos radiated the city around them. The city was slowly disconnecting with the rest, levitating in the sky. From what Melody had taken sight of was that a large helicarrier had flown by the city allowing the hero to evacuate the remaining citizens onto the jet and away to safety.

She knew Bucky was around her, seeing as how she had managed to put a link through their minds so she knew where he was; her way of a GPS.

She came in line of vision as a man in a burgundy suit spotted her as he ripped one of the Legion's apart.

Kai's eyes brightened at the sight of the girl, he sprinted towards her lifting her up mid air and hugging her against his body. "I was so worried about you." He whispered.

"I'm okay." She nodded with a smile as he placed her on the ground. "I'm fine."

"How did you-" He began only to be cut off as Melody rose her hand flinging a Legion into a streetlamp, it's metal body shattering. "Never mind, we have to get everyone out of the city."

Melody nodded, internally thankful he hadn't further pressed her on how she escaped.

Are you okay?

Her eyes fluttered lightly.

Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Found a family huddled inside of a market, sending them to the jet.

Melody smiled softly hearing his voice.

Stay hidden, I'll see you soon.

Melody took off with Kai fighting off the Legions that surrounded them.

"Where the hell have you been?" Steve questioned landing in front of the girl before slamming his shield into another Legion's skull. "Banner, went looking for you and Nat, he couldn't find you, Mel."

Melody pointed to her ear, her earpiece no longer there. "I found a way out." She said, not fully lying but not fully truthful. "I'm okay." She smiled up at him before hugging him, "I see you've missed me." She giggled.

"You don't need to read my mind to know I missed you." Steve remarked.

"Okay." She chirped pulling away from him, "I won't tell Nat how worried you were for her either."

Steve's eyes widened at her words, watching her standing on a boulder before ascending into the sky and fighting off Legions left and right.

Within moments Melody was knocked down from the boulder and sent into a car.

"Cap, you got incoming." Tony warned through his mic.

"Incoming already came in. Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job: tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed . . . walk it off." Steve informed.

"Great plan." Melody muttered pushing rock and dirt off of her body before standing to her feet.

Melody ran through the city assisting families onto the jets.

"You'll be safe in there." She said softly to a little girl and who she assumed to be her brother. Looking over her shoulder she nodded, "Come on." She raised her arms out as the two wrapped their arms around her neck. Standing to her feet she sprinted forwards, a emerald forcefield formed around her and the children as she ran to the jet

She placed the kids down as officers strapped them in safely.

"Alright, we're all clear here." Clint's voice said.

Melody rose a brow looking around her as dozen more Legions appeared, "I don't agree with that statement!" She said back fighting off one of Ultron's men, ripping it's arms apart.

"We are not clear! We are very not clear!"

"Alright, coming to you."

Melody came to a halt seeing officers shooting to a group of Legions.

Narrowing her eyes she ran forwards and was surprisingly met with Wanda Maximoff.

The two nodded to each other, almost like an understanding of some sort and tore them apart.

"The next wave's gonna hit any minute. What have you got, Stark?" Steve said.

"Well, nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear." Tony said sombrely to the group.

Melody's brows furrowed at his plan.

"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan." Steve remarked, to not liking the thought of running away.

"Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're going to have to make a choice."

"Bucky." Melody whispered before running off further into the streets, "Bucky?" She called out, "Bucky!"

A hand wrapped itself around her long locks pulling her backwards her body colliding with a brick wall, a large dent from her body's impact formed as she fell to the floor.

"Argh." Melody cried out placing her hands on the pavement and rubble.

She looked up through the smoke as the figure approached her only for it's head to be flung across the road. A long haired brunette took it's place before tossing it's head to the floor.

Melody breathed out a smile as he approached her, steadily helping her to her feet.

"Are you okay?" She asked inspecting him over, her eyes narrowed on the cut above his brow. She frowned reaching for the wound only to have her hand halted by Bucky's flesh one.

He nodded, "Are you okay?" He asked earning a nod from her.

The two made their way through the streets careful for no one to spot the man next to her; from her team at least.

She looked over to the jet and then back to Bucky, before she could utter a word his ocean eyes were locked on her's. "No. Not unless you're on it with me."

Melody shook her head, looking where the officers were assisting pedestrians into their seats. "I can't."

"You're willing to die for these people?"

Melody nodded, "It's what a khaleesi would do."

Bucky's eyes softened, he knew her issues she had been having back home. In fact he, other then Kai was the only one who knew about it. She trusted him, seeing as how he had no one else to speak to. He'd often express how she didn't need to change herself for people and that the way she already was seemed like a perfect queen to him.

And he meant it all.

Melody wrapped her arms around his torso tightly, "Thank you." She whispered into his thick jacket. Bucky pressed his cheek to the side of her head as he hugged her in return. Pulling away she pressed her lips to his stubbled cheek.

Bucky's lips parted as he looked down at Melody with furrowed brows and pink cheeks. She whispered against his lips, "I'm sorry, James." She said softly before pacing her finger tips to his forehead. Bucky's eyes fluttered shut, falling into her arms. "But, you deserve so much more in life." She whispered into his matted hair.

Melody dragged him into the jet where one of the officers assisted her by placing him into a seat. She glanced over her shoulder seeing a large jacket to the side, grabbing it she placed it over him shielding his arm, before pulling the hood over his head.

Turning to the man she hummed lightly, his dazed eyes ghosted over looking at the girl with a tilt of his head. "Make sure he is the last one off and take him 5 miles outside of town, wait for me. Please and thank you." She said softly, earning a nod from the man she walked away and off the jet.

Casting one last glance over her shoulder she watched as the jet took off into the air.

Melody ran towards the church coming to a halt next to the Maximoff twins and Kai. Thor, and Vision stood ahead of them as the rest of the Avengers soon entered the space.

"Romanoff? You and Banner better not be playing 'hide the zucchini." Tony teased.

"Relax, Shell-head. Not all of us can fly." She joked as she stood next to her team members. "What's the drill?"

Tony pointed towards the Vibranium core. "This is the drill. If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose." Just as he finished his sentence Ultron hovered above them.

"Is that the best you can do?" Thor asked menacingly.

"Why would you ask that?" Kai asked the blonde incredulously. As Ultron summoned his army of Legions to join him.

Steve turned to Thor and nodded to Kai, "You had to ask."

"This is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"

"Well, like the old man said. Together." Tony looked to his team and nodded.

One by one they fought the robot army together as a team.

Melody's hands were raised as an emerald light shown from the palm of her hands, as Kai's ignited an electric blue.

Metal flew across them, through the streets. Bodies moved in sync with one another.

The team watched as a now weakened Ultron stumbled backwards with what little of an army he had left.

"You know, with the benefit of hindsight-" He began only for The Hulk to throw him across the city.

"Remind me to not piss of the tree." Kai whispered to Melody who nodded reassuringly.

"They'll try to leave the city." Thor said looking to Tony.

"We can't let 'em, not even one. Rhodey!" Tony denied calling in for back up.

"I'm on it." James noted as he flew over the robots. "Oh, no, I didn't say you could leave. War Machine, comin' at you, right . . ." He began only to have Vision take down the remaining bots in front of him. "Okay, what?"

"We gotta move out. Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers, be right behind you." Steve nodded before taking off.

"What about the core?" Kai asked to no one specifically, watching as the team began to split up through the streets of Sokovia.

"I'll protect it. It's my job." Wanda nodded to the nymph. "Get the people on the boats." She nodded as Kai looked over to Melody who nodded to him.

"I can stay if you need help." Melody offered to the brunette who shook her head, "If you need me, you know what to do." She said offering a smile, pointing to her head earning a small smile from the Russian witch.

"You think this is gonna work?" Kai asked as he ran with Melody to help with the remaining citizens.

"I know it will." She said a little to confidently for Kai's liking but he nodded to his future queen.

"Well, then. Let's save some more landers." Kai tilted his head.

The two help usher citizens onto the jet's one by one.

"Thor, I'm gonna need you back in the church." Tony's voice rang out.

Thor turned to Steve, Kai and Melody, "Is this the last of them?"

"Yes, I believe so." Melody nodded looking around the now abandoned streets.

"Yeah. Everyone else is on the carrier." Steve nodded in agreement.

"You know, if this works, we maybe don't walk away." Tony said to the God.

"Maybe not." Thor agreed.

"Get down!" Kai shouted grabbing Melody by her shoulders and throwing her down to the ground, Ultron flew above them shooting at them all.

Melody's head peeked up just as a scream rang through her ears. She whimpered covering them with her shaking hands.

Kai placed his hands over her own trying to block out Wanda's cry.

Melody looked up, silver blood dripped from her nose and ears; as she looked up with parted lips where Pietro's body laid lifelessly on the ground.

"Daor." She mumbled as Steve ran towards Clint and the limp Maximoff twin.

Kai lifted Melody up into his arms following Clint and Steve into the jet.

Melody looked to Clint and Pietro's body with sad eyes.

"His sister." She whispered looking up at Kai.

Kai watched as the city blew up from below them. His head shook lightly, before his crystal blue eyes watched as Vision held onto the Scarlett Witch. "She's okay. Everyone's okay." He whispered, looking at the people around him who had been saved.

He smiled softly; maybe they weren't as bad as he thought.

i felt uncomfortable idk why writing "The End Of The Line" cause like that's Steve an Bucky's thing and now the "Okay?" thing is Mel and Buck's thing. idk i wanted to include it cuz for whats gonna go down in INFINITY WAR it'll come together smoothly so yuh ♡
