Chapter 6 - No, I'm Not High

"So I was watching Nightmare Before Christmas last night and I had this thought during one of Jack's songs. You know, the one about taking off his head cause he's dead? And it got me thinking - if you were dead, would you take off your head?" I posed the question to him, "Or would you not take it off because you'd be too afraid that it wouldn't go back on? But would it even matter because you are dead, right? I mean, no one's gonna see you anyway."

Chris just stared at me with widened green eyes as if I'd lost my mind. Finally, though, his gaze narrowed and he tilted his head as he searched my face intently.

"Are you high?"

I gasped indignantly at his absurd question and was about to promptly slap him across his angelic face when Phoebe cut in.

"Knock it off, you two. You're supposed to be researching demons to kill, not finding ways to kill each other," she reprimanded as I rolled my eyes, Paige walking in behind her, "Have you found anything else out?"

"Apparently it's called a Trok demon - very fast, very nasty. Except when you're downwind of it," Chris explained to the sisters.

"Ew," Paige wrinkled her nose and I nodded in agreement, closing the book in my lap so I no longer had to stare at its ugly face, "Listen, guys, while I'd love to stay and chat, the temp agency has a new job lined up for me - and it starts today. Wish me luck and godspeed."

Phoebe piped up then, admitting she had an interview scheduled for 2 o'clock and suddenly, it looked like Chris and I were the only ones on the job. Which left me wondering how in the world I'd gotten to be the lucky little witch - cue eye roll.

It should've been pretty easy though - at least it looked to be. But Chris, being the nagging Whitelighter he was, insisted on getting the Charmed Ones to help. I admit, I was starting to get a bit of a complex here - I was no Charmed One but I could handle myself with one itty-bitty demon. Besides, I was part demon - who better to take care of this situation?

I was outvoted though - as always - and together, Chris and I headed to the beach where we acquired Phoebe before he disappeared to find Paige.

As the two of them orbed into the living room beside myself and Phoebe, it soon became apparent what job Paige had gotten stuck with.

"Alright, can we get this started because I have to go..." Phoebe began before trailing off as her eyes lighted on the many dogs surrounding her sister, "Where did they come from?"

Paige frowned, clearly annoyed, "He wouldn't let me take them back first,"

"Well, I for one am not surprised," I commented, earning myself a glare from Chris who had mysteriously come to stand beside me.

"Back?"

"Yeah, I'm a...dog walker," Paige blushed in embarrassment, "The temp agency messed up,"

"Okay, do you guys mind? We have to summon the Trok Demon while he's still on our plane," Chris snapped before shouting up the stairs for the eldest Halliwell.

"Oh, Chris, lighten up. Sending us after all these demons is getting to be a real drag," Phoebe told him in exasperation.

"Yeah, you're working us like 'dogs'," Paige added, gesturing with the leashes in her hands.

"I don't see Piper complaining," Chris stated the obvious.

"No, because Piper doesn't complain about anything anymore. Ever since Leo left to become an Elder, all she does is walk around the house all... chipper,"

Chris shrugged, "So?"

"So, it's unusual. What's worse, it's not Piper," I pointed out, the girls nodding in agreement to what I'd said.

With that, a very peppy Piper came bounding down the stairs, chatting away happily on the phone with Wyatt secured on her hip before disappearing into the kitchen.

"Do you have a spell?" Phoebe asked suddenly after we discussed Piper's state.

"Right out of the book," Chris said, immediately handing her a piece of paper, "After you summon him, make sure Piper freezes him. Otherwise you'll never get the spell off,"

Paige pushed her leashes into Chris' hands then as we readied for the spell, "Here, take these guys to the attic, they'll be fine there,"

"Wait, me?" Chris spluttered.

"Yeah, you. Go." Paige shooed him away.

A giggle escaped my mouth as I watched the dogs lead Chris away, stumbling up the stairs as he did, essentially themselves becoming people-walkers.

Paige shot me a smirk and I stuck my tongue out at her, "What? He's easy to make fun of."

The youngest Halliwell just rolled her eyes, saying nothing but a knowing smile tugged at the corners of her lips as we set to work.

Note: Sorry, it's been so long since I last updated, guys! I wasn't feeling well last week plus I was busy but I'll try to be updating more frequently :) Also, fun fact for y'all, the bit about Nightmare Before Christmas? A legit conversation I had once. Any guesses which one was me? lol ;)
