𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 Casey did when she woke up. The house had granola bars, but they were stale. She hated eating them, but she was so hungry. She was sitting on the counter, letting her feet hang off of it.
She didn't know where Sophia went. She had done her best to get the walker away from Sophia. So, she knew she had to go back in her direction.
She walked upstairs to see if they had anything useful, but they didn't. Everything they had in this house was shit. So, she was now just walking around.
She was formulating a plan. In her eight-year-old mind, she would find Sophia, then find everyone else. Easier said than done.
She was standing at the door, a nervous feeling lingering inside of her. She bit at her nail as her other hand was on the doorknob. She took a deep breath, counted to ten, and walked out.
That night, she concluded that God wasn't real. And if he was real, then he was bad. She begged to be safe, she even said a prayer! And he put her in an even worse situation than before. Maybe it was because she prayed wrong, or maybe he wasn't real, or wasn't good.
She had her knife in her pocket and she walked out of the house. The sun had just come out as she walked. She missed her mother and father, and Carl. She missed Glenn and Dale, especially how Dale gave her candy and nobody else. She missed her Uncle Shane (even though he was being mean sometimes), and Andrea as well. She missed Carol and Sophia. T-Dog to! The only person she didn't miss as much was Daryl. She didn't like Daryl since he was annoying sometimes. Well, she sorta missed Daryl. Not a lot, though. Just a little bit.
She looked around, still biting her nails. She had hit her skin, and now she was bleeding a bit. She would hop over logs and sticks. Her shoes were a mess, as well as her socks. Her legs were scraped up, and she wished she listened when her mother told her to wear jeans instead. Her face had small scratches as well as her arms. She was a mess. Mud was all over her, but now it was all dry and dusty. There was dried walker blood all over her arms, face, and clothes, especially on the hairline on her forehead.
She heard footsteps behind her. She quickly turned, taking out her knife. Walking toward her was a big ugly walker. Its hair was long and blonde. A huge mess to say the least. It was a girl, probably in her middle age by the way she was dressed.
Casey stared at it, not knowing what to do again. She took a deep breath again and then yelled. "Come here you ugly shit!" It was growling and groaning at her. She puffed her chest out to look big and strong, she was just trying to be brave. "Come on!" She yelled at it, holding her knife out.
It kept walking and she stood there, breathing heavily. She remembered how Daryl said you had to get the brain.
So, that's what she did.
When it got close enough, she went for its stomach so it would bend over. Then, she put her knife through the top of its head. A disgusting noise was made, its blood splattered out as it fell over.
That's four.
She let out a puff of air, taking a step back. "Jeepers Creepers, you're scary." She whispered, pulling her knife from its head.
Her short legs walked across the grassy land. She got further away from the house, wiping the bloody knife on her shirt. She good her mom kept that other shark shirt so she could change into it.
Thinking of her mom brought tears to her eyes. She missed her so much. She just wanted to jump into her arms and stay there for a while. Then Rick and Carl would come as well.
She wiped her eyes on her arm.
Don't cry, Casey.
Don't be a stupid crybaby.
She wished Sophia was there to make friendship bracelets with her, and Carol to do homework with her. And even though Carl was annoying like all brothers are, she wanted to be with him now. She wanted Glenn to talk to and Dale to get candy from. She wanted to hear T-Dog's funny jokes and Andrea's complaints (even though those were also annoying.) She wanted Lori and Rick to hug her, and Uncle Shane to be less annoying Uncle Shane. And maybe, just maybe Daryl could call her a pipsqueak again. She didn't like it when he did that, but, it was better than him not being there at all.
She felt bad for her parents. She knew they missed her so much. Lori was a mess, even worse from when she thought Rick died. She was trying to stay strong for Carl and Rick, but on the inside it was awful.
Rick was hurting. It took everything in him not to just break down and cry. He had to be strong for his wife and son. Also for Casey, he needed to find her. He felt as if he failed. As a father, a husband, maybe even a leader.
Luckily, Casey didn't have to know that. She knew they missed her, just not as much as she thought.
She walked over to the fence around the house. She looked at the white flowers there and let her fingers brush against them. She toyed with one of the petals, then took it out and put it in her pocket.
That'll be nice for Mom.
Then, her journey started. Casey walked back into the woods. It was very green. It looked pretty, very pretty. It was calming. She knew everything else wasn't, though. She kept her guard up in worry that another walker could be after her.
"I spy with my little eye, something green. Oh, who's surprised it's a tree." She murmured as if someone was there to play with her.
She jumped over a log, smiling a little bit as she landed. The eight-year-old hopped over another log with a smile on her face. It was funny how right now she was lost, all alone and she was still smiling. She had a beaming smile on her face despite everything.
At first, she was panicked. Worried that anyone would find her. Last night she could barely sleep, she lay there, staring at the sky with worry. She was happy to have Sophia there with her, even if she was talking about something she didn't quite understand.
Now, she was even more worried. She was now alone without anyone. But, she tried to be positive. Be like Glenn, be a half-glass-full kinda guy. In her case be a half-glass-full kinda girl, but, you get the point.
She did have that feeling, the one when you can't calm down. She just kept counting to ten. That worked.
She walked around looking at her footsteps.
Then she heard others.
She turned quickly, flicking her knife again. The footsteps she heard weren't from a person, but from a deer. She smiled slightly, following behind it.
Casey kept following behind it. She walked into an area where she heard bugs chirping. Everything was much more green. Trees surrounded the area, there were even some flowers as well.
She was quiet so she wouldn't scare it. She didn't want it to run off or anything. She just wanted it to be calm. It was a big, beautiful deer. She didn't get to see beautiful things anymore...
She looked around and then saw two people standing across from her.
She quickly took out her knife, holding it out. She furrowed her brows, not knowing who it was because she was far away.
She looked past the deer.
Then she went running.
"Daddy!" She yelled, running toward him. He got to his knees and quickly pulled her in.
Tears immediately came into her eyes as he peppered her face with kisses. He wiped her curly baby hairs from her face and quickly looked at her. His hand went on her cheek as he examined her arms and legs for any bites.
"Anything scratch you, bite you? That your blood?" She shook her head no, staring at her father.
"No, I took two walkers down, Daddy. And I'm sorry I stole your knife-"
"Shh. Shh. Don't worry, Baby. I'm sorry." He whispered, pulling her in close again.
At that moment he barely thought about Sophia. He had been selfish for once in his life, and worried about his daughter.
"I tried to keep the sun on my left-"
"I've got you now. You're okay."
After a moment she stepped away, wiping her tears. "You've got a little somethin' on you." Shane joked, looking down at her. She giggled, looking at the deer which was still standing there.
"Gotta be quiet, lucky we didn't scare him off when I ran over." She smiled, taking a step toward the deer.
Rick was happy she found that deer. Happy she followed it. Stayed by it. That deer led her to him, that deer brought her home. She made a good choice following it.
She made many choices in the past few days. Yesterday, she ran off with Sophia. She stole Rick's knife. Then she didn't stay in the spot, then got lost in the woods. Killed two walkers, hid in a house, and now she was standing in front of a deer, the one that led her home.
At that moment she came to the conclusion that everything was going to be ok. Maybe her prayers were answered. She did find her family. Well, maybe they found her, but whatever. She would be back with them soon. Back with her mother and Carl. She'd be smiling in no time.
Going back to choices, she made the choice to step toward the deer. Get a nice look at it.
That was the wrong choice.
She stepped toward the deer, hearing a twig snap beneath her. It looked at her, its ears perking up. She kept getting closer, and closer. It looked at her, square in the eye, then she smiled.
Suddenly, a bang was heard.
The deer collapsed onto the ground.
And so did little Casey Grimes...
She had made the wrong choice, several of them.

hey guys
how we doing
anyways
i normally don't do this where i put my character in another character's situation, but i found it to be unrealistic for Rick and Lori to let Carl go with Rick to keep looking when one of their children were already lost. so, i did it for stuff to make sense. pls don't be mad at me for doing so i really genuinely don't like doing that stuff, so, yeah.
also, please don't let Casey's religious views affect your own. it's just for the sake of the story and those are just her opinions and that's okay. ive read stories where a character's don't believe in god and there have been many comments getting annoyed. i also wanna remind yall that casey's views aren't the same as mine. so don't get mad about that...
anyways
LOVE YALL
-Abby
