I WOULDN'T MIND

thirteen. nerd

▬▬ CORI SAT ON EMMETT'S LAP, his hands on her thighs, pushing up the skirt that she wore just a little – he loved it when she wore skirts. His chin was on her shoulder and both had their eyes trained on the girl's laptop that rested on the table. They were reworking their plans, adjusting where they wanted to go and when.

"Mount Everest first." She mumbled, moving it to the top of the list.

"No Paris?" He hummed, kissing the side of her head as her fingers tapped away on the keyboard.

"No, we're still going. Just a little later. Maybe during the Summer, I know the sun is gonna be an issue, but I've read that it's really pretty in the Summer. Even at night."

He chuckled, those dimples appearing and she turned, lightly kissing the divot in his cheek. "Sounds like a plan to me." He hummed. "So, where to after Everest?"

"Where do you wanna go?" She turned, sitting sideways in his lap as she pulled her legs up and let them rest over the arm of the chair they sat in. "I want your input too." She wrapped her arm around his shoulders as his hand moved to the inside of her thigh, his thumb lightly caressing her pale skin.

Jacob glanced at the two from where he leaned against the wall, eating a sandwich as he watched Rosalie play with Renesmee. And Carlisle chuckled lightly, smiling at the two as he looked up from his own laptop. He was glad that all of his children were happy.

"Um, Area 51."

Her brows creased a little. "Tourists aren't allowed in there."

He shrugged, a goofy smile on his lips. "We can break in, grab an alien and run. Who's gonna stop us?" She narrowed her eyes a little, chewing on her bottom lip as she absently played with the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Don't even think about adding that to the list." Carlisle spoke before the girl even reached for her laptop, and not once did he look up from his own.

"Carlisle, apparently." She muttered, making the burly vampire laugh. "Is there anything else you wanna do?" She asked, reaching over and placing the laptop in her lap.

"That's legal." The blond vampire added, again not looking up.

"Stonehenge is still on the list, right?"

"Of course."

"I recently read about Carhendge." He told her and her smile grew. "It's a replica made out of cars."

"That's going on the list." She nodded, putting it just under Everest as he kissed her cheek. And just as she opened her mouth to ask if there was anything else, Edward and Bella walked in, making the three at the table look up at them.

"Wow." Emmett mused. "Done already?" Cori lightly elbowed his stomach, but he barely acknowledged it.

"Where's Renesmee?" Bella asked, ignoring his question.

"Blondie stole her." Jacob answered, still watching as Rosaile kissed the baby's fingers.

"Break a lot of stuff?" Emmett asked, his eyebrows raised and a smirk pulling at his lips.

Bella narrowed her eyes a little. "What'd you guys break?" She raised an eyebrow in challenge but the wide smile that pulled at Emmett's lips threw her off.

"I've been waiting for that question." He mumbled as he shifted a little, putting Cori on his left thigh as he dug into the pocket on his right side. He pulled out his wallet and moved Cori back to where she was, and she was still typing away on her laptop. He opened it and pulled out a piece of paper before unfolding it.

"Oh, God." Bella mumbled, leaning back into Edward's chest.

"You made an actual list? And you keep it in your wallet?" Cori asked, her eyes on his. And she wasn't sure if it made her stomach churn from how sweet it was or if she should be slightly disturbed... she was leaning towards the former.

"Right behind your picture." He pressed his lips to hers in a chaste kiss and she melted into him before looking at the paper again. "Cori's bedroom door, the wall, the handrail on the stairs, the bookshelf – four shelves-" He winked at the girl on his lap and if she could blush, she'd be redder than a strawberry. "-um, the window. The bed. A tree-"

"A tree?" Bella repeated and he nodded with a wide grin on his face.

"Then there was the table in that hotel and-"

"No more." Bella shook her head. "Shouldn't've asked." Emmett laughed as he folded up the piece of paper and put it back into his wallet then he shoved it back into his pocket.

"You're insane." Cori mumbled, leaning towards him as she wrapped both arms around his neck, pressing her lips to his. His hands gripped at her exposed thighs, pulling her closer to him. And when the laptop tipped to the side he quickly caught it and put it back on the table, then his hands were on her again.

"Uh, guys? Cori?" Bella tried, but the couple didn't pull apart. "And they're ignoring us." She mumbled and Edward chuckled, but then the phone rang. Cori flinched a little, pulling away from her boyfriend as he caressed her thigh to sooth her. "Is that Charlie?" The mood in the room suddenly heavier than before.

Emmett smiled small, one hand on Cori's knee and the other on her back, his thumbs moving in slow circles in hopes of bringing her some comfort because now that Bella was a vampire, they all knew was going to happen, what had to happen.

"He's been calling twice a day." Edward told her as the phone continued to ring and Cori tightened her arms around Emmett's shoulders.

"He's in pretty rough shape." Jacob added, giving the new vampire a sad look but she kept her eyes on the phone as it rang again.

"Eventually, we'll have to tell him you didn't make it." Carlisle told her before his eyes moved to Cori, who had her face tucked into Emmett's neck. "Either of you." The story was that Bella's sickness had taken her and when Cori went to visit her, she too had gotten sick and succumbed to the illness.

"Okay." Bella nodded, her crimson eyes moving to her sister. "We'll do it tomorrow."

Emmett sighed as he held onto Cori and stood up, she twisted a little and wrapped her legs around his toros, hanging off of him like a koala as he closed her laptop and pulled it from the table. "I'm gonna miss this place."

"We'll come back." Carlisle replied. "We always do."

"Wait," Jacob pushed himself off the wall, his eyes scanning the vampires in the room. "Nobody said anything about leaving. Besides those two," he motioned to Emmett and Cori. "-and even then it never seemed like a forever thing."

"Once people believe the girls are dead, we can't risk anyone seeing them." The blond explained.

"So you just disappear?" He asked, a hurt expression on his face as he looked over at the oldest Swan.

"Jacob, we don't have a choice." Edward tried.

"You didn't leave after Cori turned."

"Extenuating circumstances." Carlisle offered, but that only seemed to make the boy angrier. He glanced around the room, his eyes narrowed before he rushed out of the house, his boots heavy against the floor.

"Jake-" Bella tried but Edward secured his arm around her waist.

"Let him go. Let him cool off." He told her and she sighed as she watched him run down the stairs.

"Let's go, baby." Emmett mumbled into Cori's shoulder as he started out of the room, going up the stairs instead of down. "Wanna call Carter? Plan out a visit?"

"Yeah." She hummed, moving so her chin rested against his shoulder. "Can we see him first? Before Everest?"

He chuckled lightly, his hand firmly on her ass to hold her up and to keep her skirt down. "Of course."

▬▬ "WELL," Carter breathed out, pushing his hand through his hair. "-I'll make sure to give you a killer eulogy."

Cori giggled, leaning against the side of the bed as she sat on the floor with her laptop in her lap. "I appreciate that." She hummed, glancing at Emmett, who was sitting across from her as he sorted through the piles of books they had collected. His brows were creased and his shoulders tense, he looked like he was gonna explode.

"You okay, baby?" She asked, her eyebrow raised.

He huffed. "I'm adding big ass library to the list of things our house needs. Even if I have to build it." He put one book on a stack to his right and the other to his left. "This is ridiculous."

"Stop buying me books."

"Never." He shook his head, not looking up at her and she giggled.

"So, you guys are looking for a house?" Carter asked, bringing Cori's attention back to him. "With a big ass library?"

"Yeah." She hummed, holding the laptop up as she moved her legs, pulling her knees to her chest and resting the computer on her knees. "I love his family, I really do. There's just a lot of us and they can all hear... everything."

"Ah. Gotcha." He nodded, and there was a small pause before he continued. "Do they still not know that I know?"

She shook her head, her loose curls swirling around her shoulders a little. "Edward does, but that's because he's always in everyone's head. But no one else knows. I asked him not to tell anyone."

"Threatened. You threatened him, Shortcake."

"It worked."

"Cause you're scary as hell." He mumbled as she narrowed her eyes at him and he just smiled, a huge, toothy grin that feigned innocence. "I love you."

"You guys are entertaining." Carter mused.

"Enough about us, how's school?" She asked. "Are you liking your major?"

"It's school." He shrugged. "But I like my class on classic literature. We just finished Shakespeare-"

"Yawn." She mumbled, letting her eyes fall closed as her head lulled to the side.

"Rude." He huffed and she chuckled as she picked her head up. "As I was saying, it's pretty cool. Most of the stuff I've read, but we're looking at them more deeply and I'm learning stuff I didn't catch before."

"Nerd." She teased, her voice light and sing-song. And he narrowed his eyes at her, fighting back a small smile.

"Evil little-" A series of loud knocks sounded on the door, cutting him off. "What's that?"

"I'll have to call you back." She gave him a small smile as Emmett got up and opened the door.

"Okay, talk to you later, Peanut." He nodded, his eyebrows creased, but she sent him a smile before she hung up and closed her laptop.

"We have a problem." Travis told them, his eyes moving from his brother to the small vampire that sat on the floor. "A big problem."
